Ted Cruz’s Fifteen Minutes are Ticking Away. Quickly.

    by Bob Cesca

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is on the receiving end of some appropriate poop flinging inside his caucus:

Ted Cruz faced a barrage of hostile questions Wednesday from angry GOP senators, who lashed the Texas tea party freshman for helping prompt a government shutdown crisis without a strategy to end it.

The Shutdown Further Exposes the Congressional Clown Show

    By Bob Cesca

When we’re forcibly treated to an up-close view of today’s House of Representatives, say nothing of the Senate, it’s far from reassuring to be reminded that these are the men and women who are tasked with helping to shape the present and future of the United States of America. In addition to not appearing to be very bright, they’re not at all effective at the show. Political theater in 2013 has taken on an embarrassing, flop-sweat-inducing flavor. It’s almost worse than the scripted stunts on display on any televised reality show because these are public officials who are supposed to be more noble — who ought to know better. But they obviously don’t. Civility has been abandoned in lieu of shouting “you lie!” at the President of the United States, or Neugebauer shouting “baby killer!” at Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) and then publicly shaming a ranger who was simply doing her job. Even the mere facade of decorum has been stripped away to reveal an animal house of political hazings and narrow-minded, congressional adaptations of Jackass pranks.

I’m hoping that someone from North Carolina is here now and can answer this question: who is the congresscritter for Fort Bragg, NC? I tried googe/wikipedia, but am not sure exactly where the base is in relationship to Fayetteville, and can’t figure out who represents that base.

On CBS world news roundup (7 am Pacific time) they had reporters at Fort Bragg and Joshua Tree CA, both very hard hit by the government shutdown.

Fort Bragg because 7,000 civilians are laid off.

Joshua Tree because they get 1/3 of their annual business in October and November. They interviewed a clerk at a local small business that sells camping gear, and she said they usually have over 100 customers now; yesterday they had 5, and if the shutdown continues she won’t be at work next week.

Just two stories from very RED congressional districts.

Joshua Tree is CA-08, Paul Cook from Yucca Valley.

Fort Bragg (not sure) Renee Elmers, NC-02?

I’m guessing the only people NOT impressed and moved by your story are congressional Republicans. Unfortunately, it’s just a fact. They only care about the big office, their money backers, and not being primaried by their own.

Fort Bragg is just outside Fayetteville
I graduated from H.S. there a year after my Dad retirement from the Army.
It’s in the 4th Congressional District — Congressman David Price (D)

Btw, the economy city of Fayetteville and the surrounding towns is inextricably linked to Ft Bragg and support for the military families. So it’s not just the people who work directly for the govt who are being hurt – it’s the businesses that serve them as well. If you don’t get a paycheck, you’re not consuming goods and services. You can’t pay your utility bill or your rent. You can’t go out to eat, get your clothes dry cleaned, go to the movies, afford day care, buy a car, buy clothes… etc.

  11. October 4, 2013 at 11:35 am

Good Morning everyone. I love the TOD family and this blog. The GOP mindset hit me today. We get paid every other Friday. Some goes to savings but most goes to our expenses. I give myself a limit and pay all our bills early every month. We have mortgage…insurance for home and auto, car payment, utilities, cable, internet and phone.

My husband calls me and tells me, “Don’t spend all the money”. What he does not see is that I am not spending money, I am paying our bills. He is a Republican but did vote for PBO and the Dem ticket the last few elections. I guess they see paying bills as spending.

Jon Stewart seems to have discovered his flawed logic in attacking the President for the past few years – too little, too late – the GOP seems to have to be really really really stupid before anyone in the media calls them out. Took 6 years and 2 wars before people realized the disaster of GWB – and it has taken the GOP attacking their country from within for the disaster of the republican party to be (very slowly) admitted by some in the media.

    99ts, that’s about it in a nutshell.
Also, maybe Jon Stewart not winning an Emmy award may humbled him( a little)…..

I still just cannot see why intelligent, smart people did not see through these racist bastards calling themselves TP. It’s just another name for KKK. The KKKoch bros. pimped them real good and the PL and emoprogs fell for the setup. They just spewed out what was already in them. They all came out from underneath the “white privileged sheets” wanting high five for voting for a Black man…..And PBO is still a Black man.
They sat quietly by and let GWB do his dumb thing. Then they stayed home and not vote in 2010…. So now this is what the country and the hardest working caring President in years have to contend with. Jon Stewart,RM, OWS, PL, Emoprogs cans just STFU while PBO and his administration cleanup another mess they help create.

While we are pointing fingers at MSM, Repugs, haters and trollers, don’t forget the “privillege ones”.
Very quiet now…..”you hear a rat piss on cotton.” as my grandmother used to say……(very wise woman)

But move with purpose and preparedness to improve your life and others that you can help.”

Good Morning beautiful jojo. Thank you so much. I ((((((((( Thank you, jojo))))))))). His leaving was on the heels of our beautiful Rock of our family, our mother’s final resting place on this earth was yesterday. I felt physically that I was being left alone. Just a little sensitive. It all overcame me early this morning. (He is going to a very dangerous place in the world) to take care of something that requires him to do his job which is in a very high profile position; so baby sis gets a little anxious which I know that he has the best protection in the world, but he is still my baby brother whom I love so dearly. I just got weak this morning because I chose to be distracted first thing this morning and allowed other things that I did not prepare myself space to take care of this morning. My mistake.

Now, with my candle-setting and falling quietly to my knees for prayer and meditations, I feel a quiet peaceful. I will be okay because we have so much work to get done leading up to 2014, and surely be there for President Obama for sure. I have seen these happenings that we are witnessing in Congress before, so I know that these foolish and evil people will try to wear us down and this president down; but it Will Not Happen. We may stumble for a moment, but we Will Not Fall or Fail. I know President Obama better than these foolish people do.

We will be fine. I will be fine. I apologize to Chips and my TOD family for bringing my cares to our family space. We are here to support and respect President Obama. I promise I will do my part. But I know we are mad as hell because of this evil opposition.

Thank you jacquelineoboomer. (((((Love you for your kindness)))))). Yes, I am blessed to still be alive and to enjoy a very special and beautiful brother. He is so much calmer that I am. But we both have such a loving bond. Getting ready to celebrate my birthday near the very end of this month just brings me to so many celebratory moments in honor of our precious mother who carried me and my brother for those nine month is a beautiful time. I have always celebrated my birthday during the entire month because we have her birthday, her mother’s birthday, and my oldest great niece’s birthday (on my mother’s birthday) in the same month.

You all here have reminded me of the importance of a loving family. Thank you. I was just so full this morning. I saw two families who are in dire need because of what is happening in DC.., and yesterday took a lot of loving energy from the space that I was in, and I carried those needs of how to help into my evening space; so this morning I did not wisely start out with my space filled up with the power in my thought process being filled with great energy. I clicked on C-SPAN2 to hear where the Senate was going today, and there is where I made my mistake. My space was too raw to be there this morning. My mistake.

Good news, my brother sent a text to my niece and I know he must have felt the anxiety in my voice; so he had her call me. So good to speak with her and share with her. She knows me so well. Uncle and niece felt my energy. Being their only auntie and uncle, the girls are are so protected as well. This niece makes me laugh. Auntie needed that, and her uncle knew that. I am fine now. Candles on, prayers said, and Almighty will protect my brother and those with him.

((((((((((((((((((((( Thank you, my TOD family)))))))))))))))))))))))) HZ is back in fighting mode. Deep down, I know that we will get through all of this, but I need to approach the fight like I know President Barack Obama is going to fight it. I should no better. Please forgive me, TOD family. Complaint Filed Against GOP Rep Who Blamed Park Ranger For Shutdown

The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed an ethics complaint Friday against Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas), the congressman caught on video berating a park ranger at the National World War II Memorial.

The complaint was filed with the Office of Congressional Ethics, on the same day a petition was launched urging Neugebauer to apologize. The Texas Republican drew immediate backlash when he scolded a park ranger for turning people away amid the government shutdown.

I noticed that Kevin Drum said the same thing in Mother Jones. I hope that eventually PBO goes on TV and explains this to the public in a prime time speech.

Update, TOD: I have FINALLY found rates IL. Here’s a spreadsheet from healthcare.gov that gives rates, but not detailed info on co-pays, deductibles or info on the networks. But it’s a great place to see what basic rates are.

Apparently, the age groups are quite broad. For me, ’50 and over’.

    Bottom line (drum roll please):

The most expensive plan for my age group, before subsidies $639. I’m probably looking at around $500 for a Gold plan, before subsidies.

All are PPO or HMO. I have read that the networks are restrictive and you can’t drill down into that info without going through the actual exchange. Traffic is still really heavy – I try several times/day. There is no rush.

At these prices, worst case scenario – I could still afford to see my asthma doctor if he isn’t included on the exchanges. The medications are the issue. But as yet, I’m not sure he won’t be on at least one of these plans.

    I am beyond ecstatic.

Eight years ago, my husband and I were paying $1,100/month for catastrophic coverage that precluded my asthma entirely or “anything connected to me pulmonary system” or my high blood pressure. Yes, if I’d gotten a punctured lung in a car accident I would have had to fight to get the claim paid.

That policy was $10,000 deductible, high co-pays.

I am dancing with glee. Not a pretty sight, with my arthritic hip. But dancing, I am.

I am so happy. May your premiums keep going down and health keep going up.

Just tweeted it. I know how you have been worried by ACA for a long time now. I am glad it met your expectations.

I’ve just been so anxious for its implementation. It’s terrifying to be one disease or accident from ruin, even though you’ve tried to be responsible all your life. I never dreamed I would be totally uninsurable. Hubby and I were talking yesterday about how health insurance has deteriorated in this country since Reagan began to remove the regulations. It used to be a very regulated industry. You never dreamed that claims wouldn’t be paid. This country has gone to hell since the Reagan ‘revolution’.

raygun is the root of the all present day evils dogging US. I campaigned for mondale when I was there in 83-85. Learnt then most US voters are stupid.

Many many people vote on shallow impressions. Do they like the person ? do they IDENTIFY with him/her in some way ?

The genius of Reagan is that he played the role of the reassuring father/grandfather really really well. He told americans a beautiful fairytale and people LOVE fairytales.

Barack Obama is asking americans to grow up. Much more difficult.

And they are MUCH stupider now. Reagan ‘revolution’, Religious Right, etc. have deliberately planned to make our citizens stupid. And it’s worked. I swear, amk, I don’t even recognize my country anymore.

Looks like wall street has jumped the tea party sinking ship, which they built in the first place.

I’m a bit slow – must be because its late in my world – only reason the WSJ spoke of “winning” as said by the administration is because of the hot mic conversation that Donna tweeted until the media picked it up. The only people talking about winning and losing are the Republicans.

So Boehner suppose to be upset over something he read in the Wall Street Journal , a right wing rag. Where Obama and Reid supposingly said that they don’t care when the shutdown end case they are winning. I don’t believe President Obama or Harry Reid said anything like that.
