Interesting conundrum in the library: How do you tell one of our regulars that she reeks of pot? She’s perfectly entitled to smoke it—she has a dispensary card—but at some point someone will complain about the smell.

I’m punting that one to my manager.

The Young Woman who quit her Job in a Dance-a-thon video has found a new job. Queen Latifah had her on Via AP and HP and offered her a job. Wow. That was fast.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A University of Missouri graduate whose dance video announcing she was quitting her job was offered another employment opportunity during a taped appearance on a daytime TV talk show.

On her talk show Thursday, Queen Latifah offered a digital content producer position to Marina Shifrin, a suburban Chicago native who worked for the Taiwanese company Next Media Animation before quitting in a dance video that went viral after being posted to YouTube.

At first Shifrin thought Latifah was joking, but the host responded that she’s the boss, and bosses can hire people.

Latifah said the two would do a quick job interview backstage, but the show ended without disclosing whether Shifrin had accepted the position.

The most important is whether HealthCare.gov meets its fundamental task — creating a marketplace with an array of choices and competitive prices. The other is whether it explains insurance so people understand it — how to buy it, why they should, how the law’s subsidies work, and helps them start grasping which policy works for them.

On those counts, HealthCare.gov is an out-of-the-box success.

To look at HealthCare.gov, especially knowing some Internet history and health insurance, is to understand it will sell tons of insurance.

To start with, 2.8 million people crashing a site on Day One is considered a high-class problem. “It shows they’ve hit the target,” says venture capitalist David Jones, ex-chairman of health insurer Humana. “It’s obvious.”

Still a mystery on incident in D.C.——only thing I learned from that no nonsense police chief is she said it was not an accident, as some thought might be the case—-too purposeful and too many opportunities to stop and explain herself and remedy the situation—-kept fleeing at a high rate of speed. Car was an Infiniti, poor child in the car was 1 yr. old. Ct. news reporting that streets are blocked off around an apt. complex in Stamford where the 34 yr. old woman lived. Thought it was interesting at the end of the news conference, tho, when police kinda dodged a question on if she really did hit a barrier.

A large % of the world’s problems would be solved if people would start to say sorry. I just had a discussion with a plumber (from a large firm) who called me Tuesday & said there was a part not in stock – he would call me as soon as available. I rang this am (Friday) – and how interesting – he was just about to call the supplier to see what happened. No apology, no “sorry I forgot you had a flooded bathroom that you have not been able to use since Tuesday” no “Sorry I didn’t check sooner with the supplier” – and I am sitting here feeling bad because I asked him when was he intending to check if I hadn’t called.

If Boehner said “Sorry guys – but we HAVE to fund the government – it is our job – or “Lets fund the government and then talk to the dems rather than empty chairs” – maybe the world would start to become a nicer place to be. Maybe a few more would stop hating on each other – and maybe I’m living in a fantasy world where the plumber wants to do a good job & John Boehner had a brain.

      • October 3, 2013 at 9:29 pm

99ts, I’m afraid that if Boehner was capable of saying, I”m sorry,” he wouldn’t have precipitated the shutdown in the first place. He would have had the courage to do what was right for the country, rather an himself. He’s just not that big a man.

    > Subject: Good questions
    >> The commanding officer at the Russian Military Academy (the equivalent
    >> of a 4-star general in the U.S.) gave a lecture on ‘Potential Problems
    >> and Military Strategy’. At the end of the lecture, he asked if there
    >> were questions.
    >> An officer stood up and asked, “Will there be a third world war? And
    >> will Russia take part in it?”
    >> The general answered both questions in the affirmative.
    >> Another officer asked, “Who will be the enemy?”
    >> The general replied, “All indications point to China.” Everyone in the
    >> audience was shocked.
    >> A third officer remarked, “General, we are a nation of only 150
    >> million, compared to the 1.5 billion Chinese. Can we win at all, or
    >> even survive?”
    >> The general answered, “Just think about this for a
    >> moment: In modern warfare, it is not the quantity of soldiers that
    >> matters but the quality of an army’s capabilities. For example, in the
    >> Middle East we have had a few wars recently where 5 million Jews
    >> fought against 150 million Arabs, and Israel was always victorious.”
    >> After a small pause, yet another officer from the back of the auditorium asked,
    >> “Do we have enough Jews?

I don’t know why I automatically recoil when folks feel that they can tell people what they “should do”, “need to do” or “can learn” from …fill in the blank.

      burns me every time.

indeed. I believe Ann Richards ran her campaign 17 years ago. We didn’t even have Facebook, Twitter, 1000 channels on TV, broadly-used internet back then. We also didn’t have some of the challenges being faced today – like poor education, a racist & bigoted GOP, gun-toting idiots. A campaign today is going to be very different from a campaign 20 years ago.

Someone released a picture of DC car suspect.

    • October 3, 2013 at 7:16 pm

I’m still not sure from reports he she had a gun, or were the shots fired from the police??

If she had a gun ….. “the 34-year-old woman had a history of mental health issues.”

      • 105 hopefruit2
        October 3, 2013 at 7:23 pm

It was confirmed that she was unarmed (except the car which can be considered a weapon if it’s used with a purpose to harm/kill). But she did not have any assault weapon like gun/knife/explosive device, etc..

All the shots were from the police and/or SS agents.

        • October 3, 2013 at 7:25 pm

Thanks Hopefruit, even more terrifying that someone with a history of mental health problems was in ‘possession’ of a child.

            October 3, 2013 at 7:29 pm

And the thing is, we don’t even know whether that child is hers – the authorities would not say. And none of the reports so far has verified that the child was hers. This may have also involved some kidnapping for all you know. And it may be part of the ongoing investigation.

            • October 3, 2013 at 7:32 pm

It’s horrific. Any confirmation yet that she died?

Yes, she was pronounced dead at some point after the incident – according to one of the law enforcement officials at the 6PM press briefing.

Indeed, Chips you missed a whole lotta drama….on Twitter, and in the capitol. Check collegekay’s TL. Before we knew exactly what had happened, everyone thought that the suspect was firing shots at the Capitol. A GOP politician tweeted a very nasty comment saying that the shooting occurred because PBO, Nancy Pelosi and Schumer were engaging in violent rhetoric. You can imagine what a tongue-lashing he got for saying that because he later retracted his comment saying that he “tweeted out of emotion” or some nonsense like that.

LOL! I can only chuckle now but for a while this afternoon things were very, very tense.
