Yes Indeed, UT! Some of us oldies had hoped that after what we went through your generation wouldn’t have to be subjected to this! Sadly, it’s still the case. By the way, and I am sure Yardarm can can confirm this, what President Obama is going through is quite similar to what Mayor Harold Washington, the charismatic first Black Mayor of Chicago, went through on a local level. Ended up shortening his life on this earth!

From deep red Oklahoma, a surprise on the local news tonight. One station has a section called The Rant. People email their views on a particular subject, tonight was the shutdown. Every rant blamed Congress, not the president. One told them they shouldn’t get paid if they didn’t work. The Republicans are not going to come out of this looking good. I know, I wish they had said Republicans, but that would have been a bridge too far. They did NOT blame the president. Congress may be down to 7% today.

    • 25 theo67
      October 4, 2013 at 1:41 am

I hope all those people ranting know that it’s not Congress – it’s the Republicans who have failed them. Otherwise, they won’t vote right in 2014. They’ll just be apathetic.

Sadly, they won’t vote out their own Rethug comgresscritters. Learned from the L A Times, that our stupid Att Gen’l is going to challenge the ACA. As he says, he wants to “topple the ACA.” Very few places it is needed more than in this stupid state.

    Hi everyone.

Dr. Brian May, Queen guitarist and astrophysicist posted two comments on his “Soapbox” yesterday regarding the shutdown that says it all:

“Sorry to see that your Govt got
    ‘shut down’. The powers of
    Darkness, Selfishness and Greed
are very strong in the world today.
I find it breathtakingly sad. For
    you, and for us all.”
    Bri

    “To me, selfishness of Republican
    America is beyond shameful. Call
    themselves Christians? Love thy
neighbour? No – let him die in the
street. Also the blind arrogance of
    destroying the workings of
democracy ? I will be praying for
    Obama to succeed in championing
    compassion in USA.”
    Bri

Check out his soapbox, it has everything. And he’s a hardworking animal rights activist too.

Brian Williams was actually real clear on Letterman tonight on where the responsibility lies with this present mess. No “both sides”. There was talk of Cruz and the extreme tea party faction in the House, their gerrymandered districts which make them permanent members of the government with loyalty only to the ultra conservatives in those whacked out drawn districts and no concern for the welfare of the U.S., the greater good.

I’m sure this has been discussed and I’m behind, but I just watched my recording of the Colbert Report from Oct. 2 and saw Chris Matthews say the reagan was a better POTUS than President Obama. I couldn’t believe it. I have always considered reagan a racist. He created the “welfare queen” lie which is still used to disparage African Americans, he destroyed unions, his trickle down economics , Iran Contra… I could go on and on. Chris Matthews is dumber than I could ever have believed. I cannot stand him.

President Obama is the most intelligent, caring, knowledgeable, honest, sincere, and devoted President this country has ever known.

    • 50 jacquelineoboomer
      October 4, 2013 at 1:01 am

Chris Matthews is like the little kid (no offense to little kids) who just learned “storytelling” and will start one and see where it takes him. Everything is made up, as he goes along. Reagan was a horrible President – everything you described, plus my other “favorite” – he hated federal workers (it’s all about “me” – I was one, then). His horrible presidency was the start of much of the negativity we have in our country today.

    • October 4, 2013 at 1:08 am

I heard Chris say that, too. Chris is an idiot. I also noticed that there was no pushback from Colbert.

    • October 4, 2013 at 1:12 am

Couldn’t agree more. I too am way behind. 😉

    • October 4, 2013 at 8:14 am

Claire, Mathews lives in the past. That was a time when he was young and full of promise. Now he’s old, near retirement and losing his grasp of the big picture, so he’s clinging to what he thinks is remembered glory. Reagan was insufferable and did great, long-lasting harm to the US by beginning the long decline of the middle class. A person with any true insight and brains would grasp that President Obama is a president for the ages whose broad vision for the US includes preparing us for the future by revitalizing the middle class, restoring first class education, opening our doors to immigrants once again, becoming truly energy independent. The president is one of the most important people in the world. Mathews is a hasbeen and a wanna be who hawks books.

        October 4, 2013 at 8:49 am

Absolutely right re: Reagan. We’ve discussed this many times. Tweety needs to wake up. Reagan was a grade B actor playing a part, and we were governed by Nancy’s astrologer. He did great damage to the country, and we are reaping the whirlwind of his disasters now. They’ve taken a LONG time to play out.

    Goood Morning….TOD….

Feeling unsettled about the incidents in DC yesterday….police firing shots into a car where there was a baby in sight….so many shots fired at a woman who did not have a weapon

I wonder if recent events took it toll on everything…that is….the shutdown….and the recent violence at the Navy Yard….

could this have been handled in another way…

    • 61 99ts
      October 4, 2013 at 6:51 am

      Hi Prettyfoot

Events must be taking their toll on everyone – in this case perhaps LE and the woman in the car – but she first was stopped when her car hit a guard rail near the white house – there was high concern for the President – I don’t think congress had anything to do with it other than that is where her car was stopped.

Members of Congress may be able to intimidate Parks workers, and tell LE to get out of their way when the only thing the police are trying to do is protect them – but no-one is going to come out in front if they upset the SS detail for the President.

We may never find out why the driver did what she did – but she didn’t pick the time or place to do it. Sarah Palin used her children as shields in many different situations, perhaps this woman was doing the same – or perhaps she had no idea what she was doing – perhaps she was petrified as to what LE were doing – but a child can never be a shield if you are told to stop by the SS guarding the President.

      • October 4, 2013 at 7:31 am

I do not know if she was using a child as a shield…and I am not implying such…what I am saying is that perhaps this situation could handled in a different way and that recent events had taken its toll…

        • 63 99ts
          October 4, 2013 at 8:30 am

It probably could have been handled differently pf – but I don’t think the presence of absence of a child was – or could be a decider – LE for the last many years seem to assume the worst in every situation – and if it relates to President Obama I think they have good reason for this – but I am speculating – I really don’t know what happened, how, or why.

    • 64 amk for obama
      October 4, 2013 at 7:07 am

Yup, DC police and SS effed up big time. If a single, apparently unarmed woman, was able to go through such evasive actions, it doesn’t speak well of their defence tactics as well as strategy. Also. Too. Excessive use of force of american police all the time is a turn off.

I see the NBC headline that the barricade-ramming woman in D.C. yesterday ‘may have believed Obama was stalking her’, which may explain some of what happened but no evidence of same in the story. The whole thing was a mystery—-her family had no idea why she would be in D.C., was to have taken daughter to dr. appt. in Ct. They did say that she had post-partum depression after unplanned pregnancy and may have been briefly hospitalized, but that was over a year ago. Then I see she was fired as a periodontist’s hygienist after numerous complaints of “too rough” treatment. She was currently running a dental employment agency from home. But there seems to be frequent mention of mental health issues from those close to her—–it looks like she just finally lost it. Sad.

Thank you for the kind words. Small countries – despite that we may not like the idea – are somewhat dependent on the larger countries/economies of the world. For close to 200 years our support/defense came from the UK but that started to change during WWII and by the 1960s the US was becoming much more important in our part of the world. I like knowing about countries with which we are close but it wasn’t until Barack Obama stood for President that I wanted to find out how your politics worked & TOD has been a wonderful teacher.

I think I mentioned yesterday, one of our media persons – who got the story mainly wrong – did make a valid point – When the USA coughs – Australia get the flu! Some in the US have not enjoyed that markets/employment in the US have been impacted by European events. We live with that every day – the world impacts my world all the time.

… Indeed, to some observers it appears that the GOP, in lurching wildly from one demand to the next, is merely expressing pent-up rage. Devoid of ideas, “what’s filled the vacuum is scorched-earth opposition to anything Barack Obama wants,” says Josh Barro at Business Insider.

… The political risk is that voters may start to think they were drawn into a shutdown under false pretenses, the domestic equivalent of Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction. And we all know how well that turned out for the Republican Party.

Republicans struggle to understand their own shutdown plan
      By Steve Benen

      —————————————————

So to review, the reason the House can’t vote on the Senate spending bill is an incoherent word salad, filled with lots of words that seem unrelated to one another.
      .
Indeed, on the government shutdown’s fourth day, a few truths have come into sharp focus. Republican members of Congress (1) don’t know why the shut down the government; (2) don’t know what they hope to get out of the shutdown; and (3) don’t know how to end the shutdown.
      .
But if you wouldn’t mind blaming Democrats anyway, they’d certainly appreciate it.

I see that CREDO has a new petition drive:

    ====

We’ll send John Boehner a pacifier for every person who tells him to end the shutdown

    http://act.credoaction.com/sign/boehner_pacifier/

John Boehner can do two things with the thousands of pacifiers we hope to send him:

    1. He can see them as a message from an overwhelming number of Americans that it’s time for him to act like an adult, and stand up to the irresponsible and childish behavior among his party that is putting our nation in serious jeopardy.

    2. He can hand them out to the members of his party, as a message that members of Congress must stop acting like spoiled brats. Their actions have consequences, and the longer they keep the government shut down at the hands of their petulant and reckless tantrum, the greater those consequences become — both for their jobs and for our nation.

Boehner has the Republican votes he needs to pass a clean budget resolution and end the Republican tantrum which has shut down our government.1 All he needs to do is call a vote.

But until he puts on his big boy pants, and starts acting like an adult who serves in one of the most powerful offices in U.S. government — speaker of the House -– we’re going to treat him, and the Republicans he leads, according to how they are acting.

Sign the petition to John Boehner. We’ll send him a pacifier for every person who signs – up to 100,000 pacifiers!

    ====

Their counter shows that they are up to 48,838 signatures.

ha! yes, and “the news” will do everything it can to prevent the public from knowing about the obama successes. the few billionaires who now own the entire mainstream press really, really do not want the voters to realize that democrats, such as obama and jerry brown and so on, are the ones who are in reality the fiscally responsible ones, which republicans are debt-builders. the billionaires don’t want that because they think a 3% or 5% rise in their tax rates, which democrats will do (hopefully even more), is bad for them, when in reality, if america’s economy grew as it did for decades after WWII when tax rates were as high as they have even been, all of us, including the billionaires would have much more spending power. so a little boost in their taxes now would actually help them make more money in the long run since the economy would be doing so well.

    LUVVIE IS BACK!!!

    ……………….

Scandal is BACK! Season 3: Episode 1 Handled It!
    October 4, 2013 | Luvvie

Scandal is BACK, yall! I’ve been preparing for this moment ALL MY LIFE (ok 4 months, but still). Gladiators everywhere have analyzed the show to pieces and got our minds ready to see what Shonda Rhimes was gonna serve us for season three and last night was finally the time!

I was in a room with 200 women at the #CBTVScandal watch party at Blogalicious and it was like being in a giant living room.

Chile… look. From the second the show started til the minute it ended, I had to hyperfocus because they packed SO MUCH into that hour. Let’s just get into it.

Rowan’s Rousing Read – Olivia rides in a limo with Daddy Goon (Rowan) and he takes her to some airplane hanger space and proceeds to read our girl for FILTH AND TRASH! He dropkicked her emotions through the goalposts of life, telling her “You opened your knees and gave it to a man with too much power.” WELL DANG, Daddy! NO ONE has ever snatched Liv’s wig like this and all she could so was look down and pout.

When he told her “I am the hell and high water” I had to give props. ROWAN POPE THE KING GOON, ladies and gents!”

After he was good and done, he told her she needs to disappear for eight months and get a new life. She goes along with it and gets on the plane. When she calls Cyrus, he tells her not to run and she decides to face the music. Rowan was NOT pleased!

Good Morning….Happy Birthday, Sherijr………opening a can of worms here…….Why are most Republican women blond and have motor mouths through their noses?….I am being serious…just an observation and would like an answer….does it have something to do with right side/ left side of brain?….do they send them to some kind of training to be able to talk over everyone?…..It has got to be something about the chemical makeup?
