Chat away – Jimmy Buzzard edition

As you know, I, UT, and Chips are somewhat obsessed with association football (aka “soccer”). And this week is UEFA Champions League week, so we’re even a bit more addled. So, for your chatting pleasure, football distilled to two minutes by Monty Python.

Chat away!

    I loooooooove this law!

    • October 2, 2013 at 3:47 pm

What the GOP was counting on was that the law was unpopular and no one would go to the websites. The fact that so many people have gone has left them speechless, as they were firmly within their own bubble.

reminds me of trying to apply for insurance. Took many days, faxes, doctor’s records. Trying to remember every time I coughed in the last 40 years.

Took them a couple of minutes to reject me. Couldn’t they have just said, “Just stop applying if you’ve ever had a cold?”

It was Costco/Aetna. great teaser rates that NO ONE gets. The rates that RWNJ’s use to compare to ACA rates.

Very OT but I’m distressed: the animal shelter where all three of my current rescue puppies came from – a school bus just plowed into the building. No one was hurt, no animals hurt, no kids on the bus. It’s a miracle if you look at the pictures.

Rand Paul Invites Democrats To Bipartisan Coffee

With tensions running high amid the shutdown, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) asked his Democratic colleagues to join him for coffee on Thursday.

Roll Call posted Paul’s invitation, in which he suggests the partisanship might end if “we can just talk and see if we can get along.”

As Roll Call points out, Paul’s coffee party would take place on the Capitol steps, where anyone can take a photo.

Sounds like a premeditated photo op to me Senator Paul……

    The GOP’s Obamacare Suicide

….The initial response to yesterday’s opening of the state and federal exchanges that are providing affordable insurance plans to Americans who previously could not obtain coverage has Obamacare proponents dancing. Millions of Americans were not scared away by Koch-financed ads (including this rapey spot). Sure, there were glitches and websites crashed. But that’s natural, given the overwhelming demand. And the exchanges have weeks to work out the kinks before the December 15 deadline to finish enrolling people for the coming year.

So while the Republicans have succeeded in forcing a shutdown of the government—according to the latest polls, not a popular endeavor—their crusade against Obamacare has harmed their long-term prospects in several ways:….

This negativity drives me crazy, hf2

Let me step out on a limb here:
There will be no cave by POTUS or Harry Reid.
What there will be is more likely to look like a double down by the Obama Administration.
Boehnor will eventually deliver a clean CR.
Then the Democrats wil negotiate the spending levels.
Not the sequestor levels they agreed to prior to shutdown.
Spending leverls that reflect PBO’s values not Paul Ryans.
      Am I dreaming?

I let her have it on Twitter. I’m sick of this nonsense. After all we’ve been through to start with this media/Emoprog crap about “cave” when she has absolutely ZERO evidence of any giving in to Boehner/GOP on the part of PBO.

Right now the Dems are on the House floor vehemently and effectivley pointing out the hypocrisy of yet another crappy piece-meal bill to fund some agencies while leaving out others. CNBC just aired an interview in which PBO insisted for the umpteenth time, that he’s not going to negotiate the current CR bill or debt ceiling.

But she gets to be a self-righteous Twitter keyboard warrior yelling about Dems/PBO caving with absolutely nothing but false assertions to back up her claim.

      • October 2, 2013 at 5:16 pm

No, I don’t think you’re dreaming. I think the president is meeting with these guys tonight to lay down the law. Deliver a clean CR–no negotiating. Soon the Repubs will have no where to go on the shutdown and will have to reopen the government–it’s just too unpopular. All along, I have had a feeling that the president has a plan about the debt ceiling that does not involve the Congress. He will do everything he can to get them to act responsibly, but when he says, we will not let anyone destroy the full faith and credit of the United States, I believe him. He won’t do it.

      • October 2, 2013 at 5:10 pm

Bob, I totally agree it’s complete horse manure propagated by people who haven’t the faintest idea about what constitutes firmness in a mature leader. Ranting, raving and calling people out is the childish behavior of someone who can’t control his own feelings or behavior. It actually gives those you’re addressing control because they’ve pushed you to ‘lose’ your temper. The president has fiercely demonstrated his anger and contempt of the GOP by the look in his eyes when he speaks of them and by his mocking questions about their sanity–he always asks audiences “does that even make sense?” or “Can you believe that?” This is far more powerful and devastating than getting into someone’s face. David Corn needs to grow up and stop watching sitcoms. This is the real world and we need a grown up leader to guide us through the treacherous waters of national and international lunacy. I thank God every day that the president is not only in control of the country, he is in perfect control of himself.

Why doesn’t David Corn run for President and show us how to be President? I am sick of these, supposedly well-meaning liberals, treating the President of the United States as if he was their teenager son. President Obama didn’t get where he is by being a fool. I voted for President Obama because I support his policies and, even more importantly, because I trust his judgement. I didn’t vote for him so that I can sit on the side-line to question his every move and tell him what he must do. If I was absolutely certain about what it takes to be President of a diverse nation of over 300 million people I would have run for the position myself. Why do these know-it-all pundits forget that as President of the United States, President Obama still has to take into account 47% of the people who voted against him in 2008 and 48% + of the people who voted against him in 2012. I am sorry, but some people, who supposedly support President Obama, want him to act like Ted Cruz. For them it’s all about what Mark Knoller calls the “optics.” Telling the people that Republicans are nuts sounds good, but it won’t re-open the government and spare almost a million federal workers going without pay, or restore federal government services for millions of Americans. I deeply respect President Obama because he is always focused on the reason why he chose public service: to do whatever it takes to help improve the lives of all Americans. I am some times amused by these holier than thou liberals who love the “Founding Fathers,” FDR, LBJ, etc., but then fail to point out that they were all willing to accept less than ideal compromises in order to be able to move the country forward.

Look, hundreds of thousands of Federal government workers who are going without pay are suffering the brunt of this teabag manufactured government shut-down. And so are the millions of people who depend on federal government services. The President’s responsibility is to try to ease their suffering. Obviously, since I have deep respect for President Obama, based on his record, I will never presume to tell him what to do. I am absolutely certain that whatever agreement he reaches with the Republicans to re-open the government will be motivated by his determination to aid those affected by the shut-down and to prevent the economy from going into a recession. It’s easy for me (and I do it all the time to their faces) to call the teabag/Republicans nuts. That is because I am not the President. I don’t have to deal with a Republican dominated House of Representatives that is deathly afraid of the tea bag members. The last time I checked, the government was closed because of the nuts in the House of Representatives. I doubt that it can easily be re-opened just by calling Republicans nuts.

Update: healthcare.gov is still a little wonky. At first I couldn’t log on once I’d created my account, getting an ‘invalid’ message. I said I forgot my password (which I didn’t). They sent a reset email. Then they said the security question answers were wrong. Then I tried logging on and got through.

In order to proceed I need to give more information than I will divulge on my office computer. So I’ll wait until I’m home. But progress in being made.
