BTW, am I the *only* person who is sick and tired of hearing CM talk about Reagan & Tip O’Neil? I realize he has a book to sell, so we’ll be hearing a lot more about Reagan & O’Neil, but he tends to go overboard. Also, maybe I’m not being fair to CM, but every time, I hear him tell his Reagan-O’Neil anecdote, I feel there is an implicit criticism of POTUS in his story. Again, this might not be CM’s intention and I certainly don’t want to accuse people wrongly. But that’s just my feeling. What CM doesn’t state, is that unlike Reagan, POTUS doesn’t have a loyal opposition to work with (he at times, barely has a loyal support among members of the Democratic causcus). JMHO. 🙂

I feel the same way. I think Cm is past it. He doesn’t “get” PBO because he’s not “like” them. Pisses me off.

It’s not just CM though, I feel that for too long, too many of the MSM seem to have a ‘pox on both of their houses’ when it comes to these shutdown/budget issues.Explicitly or implicitly stating that if there is no agreement on the budget issues it’s because BOTH the White House and the GOP aren’t working together. Ignoring the fact that the White House is willing to work with GOP, they just (the GOP) won’t budge.

They write editorials about how everyone needs to compromise, but they ignore what a ‘compromise’ would mean. It means hurting the ACA, shutting down the goverment and/or hurting the world economy and full faith and credit of the U.S. economy. That’s not a compromise, that’s blackmail.

If he could at least join us in the 21st century and recognize that those strategies are no longer applicable. The days of the “good old boys” negotiating for the good old boys doesn’t work for real Americans.

Every time Matthews talks about other Presidents, be it JFK, LBJ, Reagan or Clinton, he manages to take digs at PBO. He almost NEVER compares PBO favorably to any other president. When he does praise PBO, it’s always in reference to another President, literally giving the other President more credit than PBO.

Because he hasn’t caught up to PBO’s mind, yet. (And, of course, never will.) Too 21st century for him. Matthews is lost somewhere back in time. It would be comical, if he weren’t taking up space that Joy Ann Reid could use!

Your opinion is probably everybody else’s opinion! I’ve truly stopped watching Chris – who seemed to come in handy during the Bush years – because nothing he says is based on any deep thought. He needs to go away, sit in the garret all day and write more novels.

      • September 30, 2013 at 9:09 pm

Mathew is an old man whose nostalgic longings for another time overwhelm his sense of reality. If you can’t tell the difference between the speakership of Tip O’Neil, one of the best of all time, and the ruddless waverings of John Boehner, the worst speaker of all time, you have no business opening your mouth, let alone writing a book. Chris’s youth is gone, but he wants to recapture it.

Thank you UT and Chips – I’m aghast at what some do – Brutus & Cassius had nothing on Boehner and Cantor

The noble Brutus hath told you Caesar was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answer’d it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest—
    For Brutus is an honorable man;
So are they all, all honorable men—

I truly hope that Democrats get out and vote in 2014, if not, we are in for a world of hurt.

    A few (hypothetical) questions.

    1. Why does the party of ‘personal responsibility’ want to me to opt out on health care? Thus creating a greater burden on society, if I ever need medical care?

    2. Why does the party of ‘freedom’ NOT want to give me greater freedom to choose my own healthcare?

    3. Why does the party of ‘fiscal responsibility’ want to destroy a healthcare program that is already saving money?

The governors wrote Boehner a letter today pleading that he not shut down the government. Mary Fallin, the Republican Governor of Okla, chair of Governor’s Assoc…..wrote the letter, co-signed by Hickenlooper of Colo. How stupid are these Reps? The governors are aware of what harm this is going to do to their states.

Ok, so the latest scuttlebutt on Twitter is that, before the dreaded hour, there will be a clean CR. To save the nation, I hope so. But expect the GOP civil war we’ve been predicting to break out in all its fury. Whether or not the GOP pushes through a clean CR and debt ceiling raise, the fratricide for the next year will be something to behold.

    President Obama – September 30. 2013

That’s who we’re here to serve. That’s why we’re supposed to be carrying out these responsibilities. It’s why we should be avoiding these kinds of constant brinksmanship. It’s something that we do in the ordinary process of this extraordinary system of government that we have. You don’t get to extract a ransom for doing your job; for doing what you’re supposed to be doing anyway; or just because there’s a law there that you don’t like.

We’re all a bit confused, lulu, but mostly because of these congressional Republicans who don’t know their ass from a crater in the moon, if you’ll pardon that expression!
