    Yet another fantastic Spandan essay:

“Timing is Everything: How Ted Cruz’s Government Shutdown Gambit is Helping Democrats”

    Bottom line:

“It is because of Ted Cruz’s grandstanding that House Republicans were forced to include language about Obamacare in the CR, instead of negotiating with the president and the Senate Democrats on other budget priorities (or hell, even passing a budget on time). Because of that, House GOP actually lost leverage as they and Ted Cruz have forced the debate to become binary – shut down the government or agree to defund Obamacare – rather than multi-faceted.

At some point, crazy becomes counterproductive, even if your goal is the same as the goal of the crazy. Pretty soon, crazy starts hurting their own goal. That’s Ted Cruz. And that’s the Tea Party.”

    My, my, my.
I have been talking at least an hour over on the last thread to myself.

In pic #17 I note that Bill (Ego)Clinton seems to be salivating as he follows POB onto the stage. Or was he trying to copy his swagger?

I am really trying to like this guy, but I do not trust him.
Be patient with me. Maybe if they stop pushing Billary on center stage might help.
He reminds me of a vulture waiting in the wings…..okay. I have been talking to myself too long. It’s me.

LDS …it took me four trys just to type LDS, so maybe I have had enough wine tonight, and maybe my laptop is old, but hey, please get over it. If you hate Bill Clinton, go out and scream in your backyard til the hate permeates the universe. The President, our beloved President did not have to meet with him for anything, but he did, and I say that is enough to tell me (who does not hate Bill Clinton as you obviously do) that there is a reason to reach out, to join together, to work together for the common good. So take your “Billary” comments and distrust and just go scream until it is all let out. Okay? Sorry for the rant, but after my FB encounter with a woman who has not insured her children (one in utero) on her plan because it costs too much, and cannot see the value of ACA , I have little patience with hate tonight.

        September 24, 2013 at 11:11 pm

        Daisydem, thank you….I think.
But I did not say “hate”. I never use that word, ever. I do not like him. I do not have a backyard. If I did Bill would be right back there because his office is in the back of me in Harlem. When I used to drink wine, me and my wine would have probably gone to his office and tell him in his face….(.hic )

I do hope you feel better tomorrow about the FB encounter.(I do not do FB, too personal for me. Too much information to process with wine or without). It sounds like that FB encounter was misinformed and I hope you remembered to refer her to all of the good advice here to help her and the children and the one soon to come. I hope she did not mean the word “hate” either while raising children because that is such a strong emotion to pass on to a precious life inside her womb.
Your rant is justified. I had an old computer until my son bought this iPad. It makes life so much sweeter.

Thank you LDS for the nice response to my rant. I am sorry I was in a bad mood, but I still do not like the Bill and Hillary bashing so frequently perpetuated here … alterior motives aside, whatever they can do at present to help put forth ACA, and other policies, I say let them; the future elections aside … those will be for Hillary to win or lose. The FB encounter was unfortunate. I am very selective these days in my FB friends, but what happened is that someone (a band leader, actually) who I really like had posted a link about the Affordable Care Act and one of his friends replied and others and as I pointed out to her, I did NOT go to her page to confront her, her comments showed up on MY page. When this happens and the information is blatantly wrong, I cannot help but respond. As it turns out, this is a young lady that I could find myself being friends with and I don’t know how to convince her that she can and should explore ACA further and insure her unborn child when he/she arrives. She blocked me, I can lurk at her page (won’t tell how) but I really cannot communicate with her further. By the way did I tell TOD that a friend of hers got mad and told me to kiss Obama’s butt and called me a Nazi cow. Lol. Makes my day.

Perfect choice for the Spouses event

      From the article:

“…The lunch was provided by Red Rooster, a well-known soul food restaurant in Harlem, and included shrimp and rice and a salad with cornbread croutons.

The visiting first ladies from other nations will go home with a gift basket that includes a jar of honey butter produced from fresh honey from the White House beehive and lemon verbena grown in the White House herb garden.

They were serenaded by Broadway star Audra McDonald, whom the first lady described as a “dear friend,” and members of the chamber music class at LaGuardia Arts High School. There was also a performance by company members from the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

The group also toured the museum, which houses about 2,000 works from about 450 artists, the earliest work from 1804 and the most recent from 2013.

The museum was founded in a loft farther north in Harlem and moved to its current space, a former bank, in the 1980s. It currently has three emerging artists-in-residence of African or Latino descent occupying its studios.”

More on the setting for the UN Spouses luncheon:

“…They dined in the main gallery surrounded by life-sized paintings of African-American women created by Houston-based artist Robert Pruitt. Made from crayon and charcoal on butcher paper, the paintings depict black women in his Texas neighborhood and incorporate elements of science fiction and hip-hop culture…”

My husband just turned on ESPN2, and Keith Olbermann’s show is on…..Keith Lights right now. When MSNBC sent him packing, they lost the cornerstone of their network. I know he has a massive ego, is hard to work with, etc…….but he built that network and no one has been able to replace him. He was the best writer on the network and the most creative. Sometimes his pomposity wearied me, but I still miss his Special Comments, and Worst Person in the World, and good interviews. If we could have a lineup of Rev. Al, Joy Reid, Keith and Gov. Sounds like yada, yada, yada to me, and his brain keeps freezing up as he speaks. Of course, anybody with that much hate inside of him will have no trouble speaking forever, even if it’s more quotes from kids’ books amid the brain freeze. Rs are echoing his talking points, looks like. Only heard Kaine of the Dems, but it’s all SO VERY BORING, I couldn’t give details. They can’t apparently call it a filibuster since he’s “not delaying action on a bill” and he won’t stop the procedural vote, which is tomorrow (“one hour after coming into session”), per C-Span3.

        • 99 theo67
          September 25, 2013 at 12:24 am

I guess the point is for him to be able to point to this so-called “filibuster” and tell his sheeple that he stood up for them. Little do they know that he’s spending the evening, along with his GOP brethren, trying to deprive them of their rights to quality health care and affordable health insurance – all to further his own ambitions. He’s one hateful little bugger.

Thank you so much LovelyPlains for sharing today’s wonderful images of President Obama. I don’t care what any one else says, but as far as I am concerned, President Obama is the best President in my lifetime. I am so proud to have voted for him twice. I especially feel blessed to have been alive and part of the majority of sane Americans who elected and then re-elected President Obama. Try as they may, the haters afflicted with ODS will never re-write or completely destroy President Obama’s legacy. Posts like yours, and all the posts in TOD archives, will always be there to challenge revisionist history peddled by the haters of President Obama.

Hi nath – I couldn’t vote for him – but agree with everything else you have said – I’m sure you’ll find no-one on TOD to disagree. I think his legacy will be beyond anything we can currently dream about – and despite the hate from the GOP – he has rewritten the framework of the USA – he has allowed people who are not old white anglosaxon protestants to dare to dream – he has brought the covert racism above ground to be seen for what it is – he has shown up the Supreme Court and the southern states for what they are – and he has worked tirelessly for all the people of the US. He has done what no other President has dared to do. There is much more to come & rewriting history will not be an option for the haters.

Thank you Jackie – I have read a little more since I wrote that and found even more that will be in his legacy – and more that the media try to take from him. A comment on Pierce comes to mind

“I know this is off topic but what is it with Chuck Todd? I watched Obama/Clintons really great talk at CGI going over Obamacare. it was really great but on Brian Williams, Todd talked about it as if it was all Clinton. Obama did 80% of the explaining and Todd would not acknowledge that. A–hole.”
