Gorgeous First Couple!
Hellooooooo PKayden!
Oh, my God, what a great dress, FLOTUS.
YES! Love the bag too! 🙂
Me, too!
I noted both as well. She is one classy lady.
It’s good to see a smile on our POTUS’ face.
I notice he is always trying to amuse First Lady during these departures—-with some sweet, funny(ish) tidbits.
I noticed that, too. I think it helps keep things light for him, too.
GA TODers.
Congrats pkayden on your Gold 😉
Dick Cheney went out hunting…..AGAIN…..and his gun malfunctioned? Thank goodness. He didn’t shoot another so called Friend 😯 that he is still allowed to operate a gun by his family.
Wonder now how Cheney got his hunting license, since we know his daughter lied to get hers.
Putting them both out of my mind again … eek.
PBO has a great women and FLOTUS has a great man! Love this couple! Not sure what we’re going to do come Jan 2017. Plenty of crying!
Allison, I don’t want to even think about January 2017.
2017 😦
Me too! Whatever PBO decides to do post-presidency, I’ll be their supporting him!!
I’m sure it’s going to be something grand!
Sure will.
/waving shyly from the sidelines/ 😉
waving back – hi vc 😀
Hi! 😛
This is the kind of mood I’m in today:
“When the Day of Judgment dawns and people, great and small, come marching in to receive their heavenly rewards, the Almighty will gaze upon the mere bookworms and say to Peter, “Look, these need no reward. We have nothing to give them. They have loved reading.” – Virginia Woolf
Wow. Love it!
zizi, that was a beautiful tribute to your mentor – thank you so much for sharing it with us. My thoughts and prayers are continuously with you and all those who are grieving.

WASHINGTON — The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised more than $840,000 in online contributions since House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced last week that Republicans would include a measure to strip funding from the Affordable Care Act in a continuing resolution to fund the federal government.
Happy Monday everyone, thank you Mistress Chips for the heads-up… off to mow the lawn..etc, to be back at 3PM for POTUS 🙂

Ok, this is part of being 44 that I don’t like: unexplained lower back pain. Ibuprofen has done nothing for it. I might go home early and put a hot water bottle on it.
Aw LL, you poor thing! Go home – right now!
Eh, I’ll go home at 1. Then I have to go by CVS to get a heating pad; it’s been ages since we’ve had one.
Look after yourself, LL.
44!!!pfffffff a mere lad, a babe in the woods, a youngin. Wait until you reach 46, then I’ll tell you about back pain.
I bow to my elders.
don’t bow, streeeeeettttttccccchhhh real slow but not to the point of discomfort.
Yeah. Ain’t it fun?
Core exercises help a lot. I’m unable to take any NSAID’s so I have limited options and I live with back pain all the time. Abdominal exercises really do help.
113th CONGRESS
1st Session
H. R. 2682
To prohibit the funding of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
July 11, 2013
Well well well… looks like they had this ready back in July…..
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c113:H.R.2682:
(c) Unobligated Balances- Notwithstanding any other provision of law, all unobligated balances available under the provisions of law referred to in subsection (a) are hereby rescinded.
note the word ” unobligated ” which means that most of the funding is already in place.
Republicans are frauds. !
2014!!!!!!!!
Susan Rice, the outgoing ambassador to the United Nations, is changing into something festive. It’s a warm evening in June, and guests are assembling for a party she’s throwing in honor of LGBT Pride Month at the penthouse of the Waldorf Towers, the official residence of the U.N. Ambassador. Actress turned humanitarian activist Mia Farrow, wearing blue tinted glasses, is one of the first to arrive. Within minutes she’s joined by The New York Times’s executive editor, Jill Abramson, writer and Princeton professor Anne-Marie Slaughter, and other media types, as well as assorted ambassadors, dignitaries, and prominent members of the gay community. They mingle and sip sparkling wine in the elegant living room next to a framed portrait of Oprah Winfrey and First Lady Michelle Obama resting their heads on Rice’s shoulders. That photograph, plus a collection of African drawings and a large oil portrait of Miles Davis displayed over the bar in the TV room, bears a blue sticker so movers know to ship it back to Washington. The evening might officially be a celebration of LGBT rights—a cause near and dear to Rice’s heart—but really, everyone knows this is her farewell bash.
After more than four years as ambassador, Rice is triumphantly returning to Washington as President Obama’s national-security adviser. It is an astonishing reversal of fortune considering that not so long ago her hopes of replacing Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State—and nearly her entire meteoric career—crash-landed into the controversy around the terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya. President Obama seemed to bow to G.O.P. criticism by passing over Rice—a loyalist, friend, and sometime dinner guest—leaving her stranded at the U.N. Then, in a reassertion of his presidential prerogative, he appointed her to a White House position beyond the reach of Senate confirmation and Republican opposition. By joining a second-term administration that has consolidated foreign-policy decision-making, Rice will now exercise a degree of influence from her corner West Wing office that easily marks her as one of the most powerful women in the country.
I love Susan Rice!
I love Susan Rice and she is where she belongs. As for the President “bow[ing] to GOP criticism by passing over Rice” – we don’t know that. Personally, I think John Kerry was always a strong contender, and he’s doing an amazing job. Everyone is where they should be.
I don’t think PBO bowed to the GOP…I think everyone is where they should be. I think Kerry was the intended SOS in the first place, but a place at the table for Hillary had to be made, so…………….
My response to the Krugman editorial a friend posted to FB:
“The man who cannot create wants to destroy.” Erich Fromm
Fromm, who had to leave Nazi Germany to survive, wrote about “lovers of life” and “lovers of death.” The current House Republicans appear to be incapable of creating and/or unwilling to create anything constructive. What they do is destroy. They do seem to want to facilitate and maintain a dead and deadening social plutocracy. And they have demonstrated their willingness to kill, literally (by commission and omission), the poor and working class, women and children, military veterans, etc., etc. And this they celebrate!! Lovers of death.
Black, smart, etc etc……
True, Don.
FLOTUS looks gorgeous! Looks like a Reed Krakoff dress she’s worn before.
And we welcome them arms open with love…..smiles from here to there.
Welcome President Obama and First Lady Michele. We love you!
Michelle…..oops!
I am not from NY, but welcome POTUS and FLOTUS.
The nairobi issue is getting worse. The mall is flaming now.
O Lord, no!
MSNBC is claiming that the Kenyan gov’t has control of the 4 floors. Is Tamron Hall not right?
She’s a reporter on Inside Edition and she’s getting out the word too. Yay!
Excellent UT!!!!
Thank you for the info, Mrs. Rooney!
You’re welcome, Lady Lampard!
A message for LL – it is better to ice back during the first 48 hours. Ice it for 10 mins every hour – take anti inflammatories and don’t sit on any hard surfaces. Lie down with your legs elevated slightly to take pressure off the lower back. If nothing improves in 2 weeks make sure that your doctor schedules an MRI. Not dealing with back pain properly can lead to all sorts of long term problems. I’m sure will be feeling well again in no time. take care.
LL, cluny is correct. I’ve got lots of experience with (low) back pain. There’s also some really good strengthening exercises one can do. Those helped me a lot when I was at my worst.
Here is a portion from the last comment on the last thread, which btw, just happened to be mine. I was thanking O’s here who’ve posted info on OCare that I was able to pass along to a friend who is giving a presentation at her church. I haven’t verified the info but I thought it worth considering.
– there are some unscrupulous companies who are selling insurance, claiming to be under the Obamacare provided exchanges
– the ACA gov site is the ONLY marketplace to obtain Obamacare.
– there are reports of many “fake” or look alike sites set up. The fake or look alike sites may provide insurance that is NOT covered by the ACA laws regarding things such as out of pocket lifetime caps etc due to being grandfathered.
– anyone obtaining insurance before this portion of ACA goes into effect on Jan 1 2014 will not have the same protections offered by insurance obtained thru the ACA marketplace site.
– subsidies ( tax credits ) for insurance will only be available for people who purchase their insurance on the exchanges/marketplaces.
– if you want help with the cost of coverage, you must go through an exchange.
– http://www.healthcare.gov is the official site to go through, not a commercial site, such as healthcare.com, even though it has a photo of the White House.
– sites other than the marketplaces can perform that function of being a clearinghouse for insurers to sell their products. But the costs may be higher than the marketplaces, and subsidies are only available through the marketplaces.
– someone who isn’t eligible for a subsidy can choose marketplace, or not.
Let’s be careful out there.
You’re right cookemom – there are some companies now who are advertising on our local TV stations sounding like they are part of the California Healthcare Exchange – but they are not.
Our official California Healthcare Exchange site is called CoveredCa.
And yes, if anyone doesn’t know what the Exchange is called in their state then they should go to healthcare.gov and it will direct them.
Good job cookemom!
Holy sh**. Scary stuff. Off to put this in a tweet, with a link to your comment.
O/T and insight into journalism?
Heads-up: THIS ARTICLE IS SOLELY MEANT FOR ‘GENERAL KNOWLEDGE’ since we talk so much about the ‘quality’ of US journalism here.
//…..
At this point I had never done any journalism. The Standard didn’t pay so they pointed me to an organization (the Student Free Press Association) that would fund a summer internship at the Standard—if I’d write stories for them (the SFPA) during the year. They assigned me a story right away and I started making phone calls and interviewing people and I wrote my first story.
That story got picked up by the Atlantic, Fox News, Huffington Post, and National Review Online. And I really really liked seeing my name in print (digital print?). That summer, I interned at the Standard, and wrote for them as a senior at St. John’s. When I graduated, I worked for them full time as a Collegiate Network fellow, and then I went to the Washington Post.
old-printing-pressSo you went straight into being a professional journalist! Was it a difficult way to start?
………..
What’s it like being a reporter?
Sometimes, it’s spending 8 hours in a committee hearing, waiting for something to happen, but then it doesn’t happen, and you get to come back the next day and hope it happens then. Sometimes you try to sneak into prisons. Sometimes you sit outside someone’s office all day in case they come in, and maybe you chase them across a parking lot so that you can get to them before they make it to their car. This is how I used to find tutors for Shakespeare in the Fall seminars.
Mostly it’s really fun. I get paid to learn about things, stalk people, and ask them offensive questions. <<<——- [Looks familiar, eh?]
[I noticed that this is a student blog, but I described some of what we see in today's journalism. I suppose HuffPo, FoxNews and the like can just pay students to do their 'stalking' for them.]

Angela Bassett shares a cute story about her son meeting President Obama at the March on Washington ceremonies.
My first visit to you today so I haven’t had a chance to look around, but I just had to share my news!! I can’t tell you how thrilled I am.
I live in a small conservative town in a VERY red county in a VERY red state, Indiana. Gov Pence is still fighting ObamaCare. I’m on the email list for the local library and I just got an email giving ObamaCare information! I’m so F**ing proud of them! This is great.
Affordable Healthcare Act
On October 1, a new way to get affordable healthcare coverage will launch at http://www.healthcare.gov.
Indiana is a federally facilitated marketplace, which means that the federal government oversees the Health Insurance Marketplace in Indiana. Use the Indiana page on the federal website to follow these steps:
create an account
apply using a checklist to help you gather the information you’ll need
compare plans side-by-side
choose a plan
and then enroll
The State of Indiana has information specific to Hoosiers posted at
http://www.in.gov/aca/
I love that great picture of our amazing First Couple. I think I will have to be gone until this evening so I will be back. Just had to share my good news. I am so pleasantly surprised.
Great #ACA news, TME! Have yourself a wonderful afternoon!
They are getting the message out to the far reaches of the country – this is excellent news!
health clinics, and the major pharmacies – they are offering help to sign up if you don’t have access to a computer. The people who really need it often do not have internet access.
I heard this morning that there are huge ad campaigns starting with the enrollment period next week.
It makes sense to have saved up the big push right when people are gearing up to sign up – especially with the low attention span of most people.
Positive anticipation for the law should have been built in. Instead, there have been years of RWNJ lies, confusion in the polls, a lot of people unsure. That mountain of disinformation got bigger and bigger and makes our job in the next few months much harder. PBO can’t be the only messenger. DNC could and should have done more, trained their messengers better. They sure don’t mind calling me 8 times/week asking for money and I’m not sure what the hell they do with it. I have several organizations that are specifically trying to get the word out on ACA and that’s where my donation dollars are going. I do other volunteering to get the word out. The party should never have allowed this mountain of lies to get this tall. People don’t need to pass a test on the law, but there should be more Americans anticipating its implementation.

Spetz said most states, such as Massachusetts when it instituted mandatory health care insurance in 2006, will face a particular need for doctors.
“People who haven’t been to a primary care physician in years, you know what happens — tests will be ordered for cholesterol levels, diabetes, everything that’s been neglected.”
Wise predicted that nurses and nurse practitioners and home care and health care aides will be of critical importance. In fact, nurse practitioners could soon see a boon to their profession if proposed state legislation lifts the requirement of physician oversight.
“That could help do a lot to fill in the gap,” Spetz said.”
