It must have been where Rep King from NY got his information. This AM, via mediaite, King was already sure that those who attacked the Nairobi Mall got their trainings from US.

Our Tears, prayers, words are No longer enough.

Change has got to come from outside Washington.

    • 50 99ts
      September 22, 2013 at 6:27 pm

For so many things change has to be outside of congress – Washington (i.e. the GOP version) is owned by the wealthy, the media and the gun lobby.

    Remembering the Navy Yard victims:

” … doing their jobs, doing what they love; in this case, the unheralded work that keeps our country strong … and our Navy, the finest fleet in the world … these patriots doing their work, that they were so proud of … ” – President Obama

I cannot even begin to fathom how comforting the President’s words would be to the families of the Navy Yard victims, suffering through the harsh reality of their individual losses.

  34. 57 Nena20409
    September 22, 2013 at 5:41 pm

Jon Stewart said on 9-18-13 that in 250 days in 2013…..there were 240 shootings involving 4 deaths.

This nation is coming apart from gun violence.

    • September 22, 2013 at 5:48 pm

And yet, profits for gun manufacturers are soaring – even running out of products to sell. For some, they worship money, and could care less about their fellow man. Tears really are no longer enough.

Heartbreaking—once again. President Obama has had to do this too many times. It’s unbelievable. We are going to HAVE to change. I know he feels it deeply. He had to catch himself from choking up a couple of times—-noticed it when he told of the husband saying his last words to his wife were what they were every morning. “Good bye, beautiful. See you tonight. I love you so much.”

  36. 60 jacquelineoboomer
    September 22, 2013 at 5:45 pm

The President mentioned that these tragedies “ought to lead to some sort of transformation,” noting circumstances where and when it did lead to transformation in other countries. But he said, here, “nothing happens, alongside the anguish of these American families … ”

    “We can’t accept that … ”

No, we cannot, Mr. President. We must get Congress to act. We must get the NRA to fold up shop, and sell the building.

Thank you so much UT! You really look out for us who do not always get a chance to listen to the President directly. The President’s words were touching. It’s really up to all of us to band together and say to those gun peddlers and their servants in Congress: “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”

I’m watching a recording of the President’s remarks, so I’m just a few minutes delayed in hearing him. May I say that the sight of all of the flags behind him, moving in the breeze, as if to say with each wave that each branch of our military and our entire country – which the flags represent – salute each and every word he is saying about the victims, our individual and national loss, and the need for transformation.

“Even in our sleep, pain which we cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart … “

Your President has more (X10) security surrounding him than any other world leader – that in itself surely shows the damage guns have done to the lifestyle of many Americans. Truly sad that the solution appears to be guns and lockdown

Friday at Ford, yesterday at CBC and today at the Navy Yard – Our President has taken it up a notch. The tone in his voice is pure – you’re either on the steamroller with me or you’re part of the pavement.

I have always warned Republicans (and other fools) not to mess with this man. He’s got 3+ years remaining and he will become ever more potent as each day passes. Any notion of ‘lame duck’ is the idle fantasy of the totally delusional.

I know that this is O/T…but it’s my turn to ask for help! In this chat with a teabagger, and naturally, he has everything backwards of reality and is spewing talking points left and right.

His last post: a portion of it anyway….

When the government and Wall Street convince you to let the State take care of everything you’re creating a socialist economy. The Tea Party/Libertarian movement is attempting to undue the very things most of you folks hate – Wall Street, lobbyists, unnecessary wars. Why do you think Obama’s PR departments are fighting them so hard? The State and Wall Street control the purse.

There are excellent ideas the Republicans have, but you have to have two parties willing to negotiate. Obama’s negotiates with dictators before he will the Republicans. It’s HIS way or no way, and if he shuts down the government it will be on his hands. No worries though Cinn – ignoring his limits of the Constitution works fine for Obama. He’ll probably push it through with an unconstitutional stroke of the pen anyway.

“When the government and Wall Street convince you to let the State take care of everything you’re creating a socialist economy.”

This is a false statement! So, no need to take seriously any one who starts from a self-serving false premise as the basis for discussion. A false premise cannot yield a truthful conclusion.

Sadly there will be no changes until a ‘bullet’ or two strikes someone within the “gated” community of America that declares their isolation as null and void.

    • 127 dotster3
      September 22, 2013 at 6:25 pm

Sadly, I don’t think that is it. I mean, 20 6 yr. old kids were gunned down in a classroom in a mostly upscale area of Ct., and that didn’t do it. Beyond comprehension. Change will only come when the American people are just finally so fed up with the continuous news of all this gun violence and decide—-decide that this is insanity they don’t have to endure and decide to match and surpass the passion of the minority of gun nuts in this country and bring the pressure until significant changes are made to our gun laws. There are way more of us than there are of them. It can happen.

      • 128 99ts
        September 22, 2013 at 6:38 pm

A member of congress was gunned down when meeting with those who elected her – that should get congress working – but no, she was a democrat – so no loss to the GOP.

Reagan was shot on March 31 1981…..they did nothing? Eventually during Clinton, the Brady Bill was passed. 1992…..Dems lost big so they claim. I truly believe the loss was also, due to “Gays In the Military” “Health Care” “tax increase” etc.

      • 130 yardarm756
        September 22, 2013 at 7:28 pm

    • 131 nathkatun7
      September 22, 2013 at 9:46 pm

You know what, yardarm, I am not so sure any more. If the 20 children at Sandy Hook elementary school didn’t do it, I doubt that anything can change the warped mentality of these gun obsessed people led by the NRA. Our only hope is to be able convince the majority of Americans to throw the NRA prostitutes out of Congress.

      • 132 yardarm756
        September 22, 2013 at 9:51 pm

That too will probably involve some gun shot wounds.

        September 22, 2013 at 9:58 pm

It’s something like reducing Amerikkka’s propensity for war would be easy if selective service was revived. So a few bullets flying through “gated” communities “spaces” will bring about rapid change….IMHO!

Yes, this “certain 2016 candidate who inserted herself into the
President’s administration because it was owed to her for losing.

This guaranteed that candidate continued media facetime for
her next “inevitable” run in 2016. And for her attention seeking
      spouse also.

The fact that Bill Clinton was considered as pivotal in some

I just got this from a lady I’ve known since ’50. I hope it touches some like it did me. (Hope I didn’t send this earlier).

READ THIS VERY SLOWLY… IT’S PRETTY PROFOUND.

Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven’t thought about it, don’t have it on their schedule, didn’t know it was coming or are too rigid to depart from their routine.

I got to thinking one day about all those people on the Titanic who passed up dessert at dinner that fateful night in an effort to cut back. From then on, I’ve tried to be a little more flexible.

How many women out there will eat at home because their husband didn’t suggest going out to dinner until after something had been thawed? Does the word ‘refrigeration’ mean nothing to you?

How often have your kids dropped in to talk and sat in silence while you watched ‘ Jeopardy ‘ on television?

I cannot count the times I called my sister and said, ‘How about going to lunch in a half hour?’ She would gas up and stammer, ‘I can’t. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known yesterday, I had a late breakfast, It looks like rain’ And my personal favorite: ‘It’s Monday.’ She died a few days ago. We never did have lunch together.

Because we cram so much into our lives, we tend to schedule our headaches…. We live on a sparse diet of promises we make to ourselves when all the conditions are perfect!

We’ll go back and visit the grandparents when we get Steve toilet-trained. We’ll entertain when we replace the living-room carpet. We’ll go on a second honeymoon when we get two more kids out of college.

Life has a way of accelerating as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we awaken, and all we have to show for our lives is a litany of ‘I’m going to,’ ‘I plan on,’ and ‘Someday, when things are settled down a bit.’

When anyone calls my ‘seize the moment’ friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for five minutes, and you’re ready to trade your bad feet for a pair of Rollerblades and skip an elevator for a bungee cord.

My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. It’s just that I might as well apply it directly to my stomach with a spatula and eliminate the digestive process. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a triple-decker. If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happy.

Now….go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to…not something on your SHOULD DO list. If you were going to die soon and had only one phone call you could make, who would you call and what would you say? And why are you waiting? I had a friend from high school that I was always going to call and never did. The other day her name was in the obituaries so we never had that chat.

Make sure you read this to the end; you will understand why I sent this to you.

Have you ever watched kids playing on a merry go round or listened to the rain lapping on the ground? Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight or gazed at the sun into the fading night? Do you run through each day on the fly? When you ask, ‘How are you?’ Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed with the next hundred chores running through your head? Ever told your child, ‘We’ll do it tomorrow.’ and in your haste, not see his sorrow? Ever lost touch? Let a good friendship die? Just call to say ‘Hi’?

When you worry and hurry through your day, it is like an unopened gift….Thrown away…. Life is not a race. Take it slower. Hear the music before the song is over.

Show your friends how much you care.. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND including me if you consider me a friend. If it comes back to you, it affirms your circle of friends.

To those I have sent this to… I cherish our friendship and appreciate all you do.

‘Life may not be the party we hoped for… but while we are here we might as well dance!’

Indeed, Carolyn! I think the fact that President Obama chose peaceful resolution for Syria’s chemical weapons crisis probably convinced Iranian leaders that the President is seriously interested in peace and not war. The leaders of Iran, like our leaders here, can be grouped in two categories: The pragmatic nationalists who would go to war if necessary to defend their country, but who. at the same time, would rather resolve disputes with the west rationally; and then there are the Irrational, fire-brands, who believe in Jihads and no compromise with the Satan Americans. It’s seems to me that the pragmatists have won the mandate of the people and ready to engage seriously with the U.S. and the west to resolve the nuclear issue.

Just imagining what Netanyahu must be thinking tickles my funny bone. He’s not blustering now.

There is No election to unseat pres Obama that Netanyahu can kiss up to. The AIPAC and NeoCons are not as powerful as the media has made them to be.

Now imagine how the world could have been since the late 1990s had peace been given a chance for all these years?

        Good luck with your Bears.

Steelers, Eagles, Bucs and Oakland Raiders are my Teams. I don’t watch as much I used to. Other than the Super Bowls, I have not watched a full game since 2009. All my teams are not doing so well thus far 😦

“For those who actually asked what I meant&waited for context rather than assume headline as fact, thanks.”

I am not on twitter, but all of you twitter warriors should tweet Chuckie asking him to practice what he preaches whenever he attacks the President based on “headline as fact” without waiting for “context.”

      What a blatant hypocrite!

http://sulia.com/channel/liberal/f/a615e5dd-7abb-4cda-ae37-855496549228/?source=twitter AMEN! I swear that Boner said this the other day…I wouldn’t be surprised if, even after all this time in office, that he didn’t really know the difference between the debt and the deficit.

If you’re going to argue for not raising the debt ceiling, know what it is first.
Right wingers, a DEBT limit is not the same as the CREDIT limit on your CREDIT card.

Now, I would think the fact that the idiot Republicans keep talking about a DEBT limit, and you keep mentioning CREDIT limits as a retort to those of us who try to explain to you that the debt limit has no effect on the deficit (except that, if the government defaults, deficits will skyrocket).

If you really want a comparison that is similar, it’s not with a credit limit at Macy’s. It’s about maxing out the credit card and deciding not to pay. It’s about buying a Rolls Royce and then deciding not to pay for it.

It’s a DEBT ceiling, not a credit ceiling.

See, here’s the thing. A budget (or a continuing resolution since Republicans in Congress refuse to pass a budget) is for an entire year. But you don’t pay your taxes up front at the beginning of the year. Therefore, even if the budget was in balance, the government still has to borrow money to pay its way through the year. It’s the same reason you don’t pay all 12 months of your mortgage in January. It’s also the same way damn near every business in the world operates; few businesses pay cash up front; they borrow to pay for goods and pay the bills with the money they make from sales. What the GOP Congress is doing is akin to buying those goods and deciding to keep the money from sales.

Note How Not one Pundit, Journo worth his/her salt ever explains what a debt ceiling is.

They just mention debt ceiling and moves on.

The media is part of the problem in US today.

This is why anyone who actually believes that the Republican party knows anything about running an economy or a successful, sustainable business is delusional. Show me one thing they’ve done in the last 50 years that has helped the economy or any truly successful business that operates by the book.

Actually, I am not a crook, Nixon was the last elected POTUS with “R” after his name that tried to govern. He was a nutcase, but he was Never threatening to sink the nation.

        EPA. OSHA. FDA. Etc.

Ok – so I’ll revise my question. Any Republican since Nixon who has shown one sliver of actual concern and legitimate concern for the economy. So, not fifty years ago, but nearly 40 years ago… 🙂
