Wow…that is a very niceeeeee pic of PBO!

  20. September 21, 2013 at 11:51 pm

I am realizing I am still irritated about an incident that happened Friday at lunch with two friends of mine. The husband of my friend started complaining about “Our dang President Obama” He went on about a decision not to let logging go on on Federal lands in Oregon. He has been the head of our tribal timber committee for many years and very concerned with good practices for the environment, but he hates environmental extremists. I said I am very supportive of this president, but my anti-government brother who was there kept the conversation going. My brother is a long time Ron Paul supporter. I cannot talk politics to my brother at all. So I inserted that PBO just appointed a Hopi to the Federal Court in AZ. My other friend said ” Don’t try to make him look good since I am supporting my husband on this.” I quickly just changed the subject very disappointed in their attitude. It set a light bulb off in my head on how people can get fixated on their one pet belief and judge everything based on that. It is like not seeing the forest for the trees. Had to use that line since it involves trees.

I so understand what you are saying. I have a cousin on Facebook that post horrid things about the President. I have finally written him a letter and will be unfriending him. It is hard to deal with friends and family. Especially when they don’t deal in facts. I think things will be changing. I feel people are at the end of their patience. We must find a way to speak up to stand our ground. Good luck in dealing with your family and friends. It isn’t easy. That’s why this community is so important.

I guess there is no answer, OG. At least you tried! We just have to keep plowing through it, moving forward.

I don’t have much patience for dumb stuff, so me and my anti-Obama friends and family go at it. They always get steamed…I have a ball telling them about the Obama greatness. πŸ™‚ It can be really tough and disappointing, but I live with the belief that you have to keep an eye on your friends and a 45 on your family… so it’s all good. πŸ™‚

I don’t really hang with anti-Obama people (Ha!), but occasionally will run into them. For instance, when I moved to Central Illinois where my son lives, he told me a friend of his “warned” her whole family in advance not to say anything to me about President Obama, when we ran into each other. Needless to say, I made no “new friends” among that crowd of people!

GE TODers……. have you guys quit drooling yet? Asking for a friend πŸ™‚ My Auburn Tigers lost 35-21 to LSU, but I am proud of the fight they put up. About to watch John “Bones” Jones defend his UFC title momentarily. I ask that everyone root for my Colts v.s S.F. tomorrow…. could get ugly. Carpe Diem!!!

hang in there, the Tigers will be fine – still early.

lots of drunk people moving around Buckeye Nation today

Guyton is a beast……. If I were Urban, I would run w/ him regardless if Braxton Miller is healthy. Reminds me of Alex Smith for the 49ers getting a concussion, and Kaepernick taking over for the rest of the season.

      • September 22, 2013 at 12:51 am

A lot of damage was done this weekend to some teams that shouldn’t have even been on the field. Miami, who played their backup QB from the firstQ on…….. was up 77-7 after three quarters. The coaches agreed to shorten the 4th quarter to 12minutes out of mercy? Baylor posted 70 also.

It is with heavy heart I report that my mentor was killed in the Nairobi terrorist attack. Here’s the report in Ghanaian news. The picture in the linked report was taken when he attended my hubby’s father’s funeral in February this year. Sad sad day for us all. He was a renowned poet, former Ambassador to the UN, professor and wonderful wonderful man. May he rest in peace

Thank you all for your words of encouragement.

Zizi, you probably won’t see my comment as it must be very late in your timezones. First, my heart goes out to you and your family and Professor Kofi Awoonor’s family. I also deeply feel, from the little I know of his works, that Ghana, Africa, and the world have lost a brilliant teacher, a man of peace and an ethical model of what it means to be truly invested in bringing about the well being of all the people. The fact that he was your mentor is proof enough for me of what a wonderful teacher he was.

May you and your family find strength to cope with this senseless loss of a great man! Remember, you are not alone! Some of us who did not know the Professor as intimately as you did, but still appreciated his works, are equally devastated about his loss.

          Again, Zizi, my deepest condolences!

Thank you LovelyPlains for sharing this. I now remember him! My heart goes out to Zizi and Professor Awoonor’s family for the loss of a brilliant teacher a dear loved member of the family. I am, tonight, also thinking of his son who was shot and injured. I pray he is recovering and will be able to travel to Ghana to say goodbye to his great father. As a result of this terrorist act in Nairobi, Kenya, Africa and the world, and not just Ghana, lost one of the most important teachers, diplomats, and ethical voices! I am truly devastated! At the same time, I am immensely grateful that Professor/ Ambassador Kofi Awoonor mentored Zizi who is, without a doubt, a first rate teacher/ intellect still bringing enlightenment to her students and to all of us here at TOD.

        • September 22, 2013 at 10:39 am

I was terribly saddened by the news, Nath. I could not eloquently put into words my thoughts as you so succinctly did above and below. I thought trying to find some video and articles describing his contribution would be nice for Zizi, and the TOD community. I also found this wonderful encyclopedia website with all his contributions. http://de.cyclopaedia.net/wiki/Kofi-Awoonor#pics I hope both you and Zizi, get a chance to browse it. It has a lot of his contributions methodically gathered for retrieval.

Zizi, I am terribly saddened by the news of the loss of your mentor! May you and your family and the family of your mentor find the strength to cope! Words really fail that can convey the sadness that I, and I am sure many at TOD, feel about this senseless loss of life of innocent people. Even as you mourn the loss of your mentor, please take some time to rejoice about all the good he did when he was alive, including mentoring you, writing beautiful poems, teaching all the students who went on to serve your country and humanity, and serving your country as a diplomat at the UN. Just so you know, Zizi, your country, Ghana, holds such a special place in the history of Africa and the history of all African peoples in the diaspora. I can not convey the immense pride I felt when Dr. Kofi Anan became the Secretary General of the United States.

May your mentor Rest in Peace! May his good deeds be forever remembered! And may he forever join many of your brilliant ancestors and continue to inspire brilliant minds like you!

Of course, Zizi, I meant to say Secretary General of the United Nations in reference to Dr. Anan! I was so distraught by the news of your loss. I was still hoping for a miracle and I took your announcement so hard.

So sorry zizi. If there is any tribute to a good life well lived it has to be that someone would describe a person as their mentor. This person has lived a good life and no one, no violent act, can take that away.

Will post again sometime tomorrow because it’s the middle of the night for many wonderful TODers but Friday at the Ford factory and Saturday at the CBC could not provide a clearer vantage regarding how our magnificent President Obama is going to deal with #GOP domestic terrorists.

And, if you have any doubt about how the vast majority of Americans are going to respond to that #GOP domestic terrorism motivated entirely by racist hate of our President, well ….

…. time for some rest ….

It’s Sunday mornin’ in America and Thank God I can come to TOD to view Obama’s CBC speech in it’s entirety!
    Thanks Chipster!
