The utter callousness of the GOP makes it so hard to laugh at these cartoons because the gory ones are no different from the reality we are seeing. I’m livid

      Hi Zizi,
Yes, I am Ghanaian, living part in the US and working in the Africa region. Love your writing. But as mentioned earlier I can’t keep up with the meaty stuff that is provided in this great community. I might have to cut other things in life to dedicate a 3 hour daily visit to TOD. Very impressive talents; poems, songs, policy analysis, politics, soccer 🙂 …. thanks for sharing your thoughts and knowledge, they matter!

  4. September 20, 2013 at 12:23 pm

Thanks for the cartoons AMK. They are all terrific.

Who were the two Democrats who voted for this nonsense? And why were there 14 congress people who didn’t vote? Isn’t funding the government and caring for the health of the citizens in their job description? What could be more important?!

  10. September 20, 2013 at 12:33 pm

You are so right about the bravery of the cartoonists.

    Thanks for the afternoon toons.

Welcome back, amk! If stupid can be indentified in a persons’ face, I’d reckon that Ed Henry guy would be the poster boy for stupid. He looks pretty well-fed also, as if he doesn’t need to worry about qualifying for food stamps. I’m outta here. Thank you, everyone. Let’s do the best we can today. Big hugs all around. I am not fans of anyone at Fox…..so I am not going to post the video or the article.

But per TPM, HP, etc, O’Reilly called the actions of his Troop in Party Unison, TBGOPers desire to insist on defunding the Fed gov’t as Fanaticism.

O’Reilly and Fox built the TBGOPers. They could have stopped their lunacy many years ago. They didn’t for Money and profits were too great of a deal to pass up.

There really are no words. I was going to write something like “karma … ” – but short of wishing all of ’em some bad luck, which I refuse to allow myself to do, there are no words.

    • September 20, 2013 at 12:56 pm

and now the TP/GOP is like a snowball rolling down the hill…picking up speed…destined to crush everything in its path…i hope our Democracy will survive the crash at the bottom…

O’Reilly’s words no doubt echo the sentiments of the Wall Street types. The GOP’s civil war is about to get serious. Let Boner and his crew put on a brave/happy face for the MSM cameras, they know their end is near. It is never good when the “tail wags the dog”, as the GOP will soon find out.

The House GOP budget chief, Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.), said the package should include instructions for entitlement reform.
“We think that’s going to be a big part of debt limit: mandatory savings, tax reform, entitlement reform,” he told reporters. “There are no savings from tax reform. That’s revenue neutral. You get savings from entitlement reform.”
“It’s basically going to be like a budget,” he added, “where we’re going to have instructions, and we’re going to have a lot of entitlement reform in there.”

We have 2/3 rds of the Government. Why should we allow them to implement what they want?
They’ve blocked everything we want, it’s our turn.
    Fuck em.

  18. September 20, 2013 at 12:52 pm

I called my rep. yesterday and today to express my outrage at his vote to defund the Affordable Care Act. I have also sent e-mails to his office as has my husband. I am so furious at the republicans actions. These people are disgusting. I admire the president for continuing to move forward. I really am beside myself with anger right now.

In my mind, and I’m not kidding, I sometimes picture the U.S. National Guard going into the halls of Congress and dragging out all the Republicans. I hear some of the privatized prisons are nice.

I like Billy myself, but Chips cannot stand the man.[Wish I knew why] Anyway, I’d advise against posting him here, lest you feel the wrath of the Blog Queen. 🙂

Ha! I tweeted a nasty tweet to Jordan and Cantor off of that. Deleted it since, but it’s archived somewhere. 🙂

I still think they’re balls of snot, but cuz they’re hypocrits in general.

No, it’s all good, LP! Plus, I think we all occasionally “channel our inner VC,” and I get that, too. 🙂

Whoa. Pres. Obama’s on the teevee right now. LIFE IS GOOD, ’cause look who our President is!

    • September 20, 2013 at 1:44 pm

You will notice, LP, that the glaring omission here is about Cantor’s mental health. Apparently his heart muscle beats but he’s missing everything that makes a decent person a full human being–true heart, fellow feeling and the ability to talk with, not at, other people.

Chuck Todd and his ilk demonstrate a total lack of respect for their “audience”. This is a common view among propagandists.

  25. September 20, 2013 at 1:53 pm

Can someone explain what happens after the Senate shoots down the House version of the food stamp funding and/or the White House
vetoes it? Does the food stamp program stop from lack of funding? Is there a backstop built in somewhere? Aside from all the idiotic Republican game playing, there are real lives at stake here. People will go hungry, children will have health issues, and American families will suffer real hardships. I wish every single Congressman who voted for cutting food stamps would have to go to a needy family and tell them–in front of the children–that they voted to let them starve. Then let them spend one week on food stamps, let them feel the hunger pangs, the humiliation in the grocery store, the sense of fear and defeat. Let them lie awake at night because they’re still hungry. Let them look at the suffering in the eyes of their children–not some creatures of their imagination. Let them feel every pain and indignity they’re inflicting on other people. Then let’s take another vote.
