      Thanks PF58 and Nena.

Our President looks so good in spite of the shit going on in Washington.

POTUS does look good behind that stirring wheel, I can just see him trying to teach Malia how to drive. Malia next birthday she can get her learning permit.

      • September 20, 2013 at 5:18 pm

Yeah, it’s so great to see him smiling and walking with swag despite all the Rethug foolishness. I guess by the end of the month, federal employees will be out of work and the American people will suffer when the Rethugs shut down the government over Obamacare.

          September 20, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Don’t believe the hype. Odds of shutdown are still low. All of this is theater and posturing to please the Tea Party supporters who continue to mindlessly give money to these assholes for meaningless theatrics. Having PBO looking worried and stressed would not change the situation, so I really don’t get your point.

I wasn’t saying that President Obama should look stressed out to change that situation. I was actually praising him for keeping his cool no matter what the Rethugs say/do/threaten.

Oh, so now I see PBO is a car salesman?? Ok, then, where do I sign?! 😆 That inscribed vehicle will bring in a pretty penny on eBay!

Hey, maybe Ford Motors will create a decal for that model, when the sales start going through the roof. Kinda like the booming business every cafe and restaurant and pub has experienced after PBO has patronized them.

PASADENA, Calif. — Police detained three people after a fight erupted outside a Pasadena, Calif., Apple Store where a crowd waited overnight for release of the new iPhone.

Police Lt. Jason Clawson says two men were arrested about 7:30 a.m. Friday after getting into a fistfight while in line along Colorado Boulevard. They face misdemeanor citations. It was unclear what the fight was about.

Clawson says a third man was placed on a 72-hour mental health hold after running into the street in an enraged state. Clawson says it appears the man may have been among several homeless men who were hired to buy iPhones for other customers.

Clawson says when the store ran out of the new smartphones, the homeless men didn’t get paid and became upset.

    No significant injuries were reported.

Goodness gracious. “First World Problems”, as they say.

Just recently it was Nike Shoes. Crowd waited for hrs overnight for new shoes from some NBA star. A dude comes up a few minutes before store opens and holds up people in line. One guy had a gun. Shoots robber dead. It’s on video. Forgot what city. But saw it on MSN/Bing news the other day.

    • September 20, 2013 at 5:49 pm

These stores who make you stand in line to get a limited number is at fault. When families start suing them this will stop. Why make hundreds of people stand in line when THEY KNOW how many each store actually have? All they had to do is pass out a ticket for the first ones in line and have them come in later to pick up the merchandise. This is what greed does to people.

      September 20, 2013 at 7:05 pm

I find it beyond disgusting that homeless people are paid (no doubt a pittance) to stand in line for someone else. My brain cannot comprehend this level of disgusting behavior.

Amazing that no-one started shooting though – that’s a positive.

A diarist just submitted this at Kos in reference to President Obama:

He’s poetry in motion, a beautiful sight to see
He’s a bad Mama Jama Just as fine as he can be.

I think this is appropriate given the picture above.

Diarist’s name: live2learn, she is an unabashed Obamabot,

If there are some “sane” republicans in the House, pretty sad to see them ALL vote for defunding the ACA. They’re cowards.

Seems that Paul Ryan is back at it… entitlement reform, tax reform… Republicans are going to try to turn the tables and say that democrats are holding the economy hostage just because the ACA.

You have to give them credit; they’re persistent. I hope americans view this for what it is: a political game aimed at obtaining 100% of what they want even if they control only 1/3 of government.

President Obama was great as usual. I love the plain-spoken language and the metaphors he uses to explain the budget problems and the debt ceiling. Effective.

    • September 20, 2013 at 3:09 pm

      Lovepolitics, hope you’re still here.

Over the weekend you wondering what made Ezra Klein change from being reasonable to the ego-driven pundit he is now.

I think the answer is: he married Annie Lowrey, who is a snob’s snob. Awhile ago he retweeted or mentioned something she said, something to the effect of ‘can you believe that my grandparents were potato farmers?’ This rubbed me the wrong way; honey, some people today *are* potato farmers — you need farmers if you’re gonna have a cushy desk job.

Earlier this year she was roundly condemned on her snobbery in NYT article about gentrification (I think, I didn’t read the article). Apparently she had three or four articles in the NYT that day, and her snobbery was on full display.

Ezra’s just living the role of media darling and living up to his wife’s expectations now.

    • September 20, 2013 at 3:17 pm

      JO’B,

Saw the video you posted on the last thread about the San Diego good samaritan who helps stranded motorists (grew up in the San Diego area, so the scenery was very familiar).

About 15 years ago, my right rear tire on my little Dodge Neon burst; it was dark (but not late) and I pulled over to the right shoulder at a very busy freeway interchange (Ventura 101/134 and Hollywood 101/170 interchange, for those familiar with the LA area — around Universal Studios).

An *amazing* good samaritan stopped to help me and changed my tire; he didn’t speak English (Spanish was his language). A Highway Patrol officer stopped, and said to him, “Oh, you’re helping her,” and then took off.

I was so grateful to that good samitarian (and pretty scared at the time).

If all the anti-immigration reform people could have had my experience, I think they would quickly change their minds.

What do you know? Ari melber is blaming the President for not talking about getting rid of Sequester.
Melber has viewers that are far left and not Obama supporters. Evidently… Why else go out of way to find something so ludicrous, as that statement?

Jovie how can you stomach that show? I didn’t like it when S.E. Cupp was up there and still don’t like it now. Everyone can get a job on MSNBC, but the highly qualified Joy Reid.

Good afternoon everyone. Perhaps some of you remember my mention of the lax security at the military base here in Kansas. They just talked down a gunman who got onto the grounds.

    • 63 jacquelineoboomer
      September 20, 2013 at 4:37 pm

Oh, my goodness. Hope all are safe!

Where I used to work for the Navy, which was in a beautiful, new, open Research Park with a mixture of public and private organizations, pretty much all of the Navy security on campus began at the front door (other than surveillance cameras and civilian security guards on walkabout). I retired in 1998, and the first time I went back for a visit after Sept. 11, the entire grounds and the lovely setting of well-manicured lawns and flora and fauna had been turned into an armed fortress, with military guards at an outside gate and driving around in cars, and there was a metal detector once you got inside.

Gotta get rid of the guns in this armed fortress of a country we’ll end up having. Unfortunately, I think there are more people who would agree to ban books than would agree to ban guns.

      • 64 FayPax
        September 20, 2013 at 4:42 pm

Everyone is safe, but it’s a fair guess they were just lucky this time. I always complain about the ability to enter the grounds and just wander anywhere. There’s tons of forestry, so the lax security is insane to me.

Sadly, Jacqueline, I’m mighty afraid you’re right about the guns vs. books. It’s totally sick and so very sad.

FayPax, are you in Kansas? I grew up there and have so much family still living there. What part of the state are you in? You don’t have to tell me the town.

Yikes! Great that they were able to talk him down. After what just happened at the Navy Yard, I’d guess that all military bases would be on full alert and that security would be beefed up.

I mean, seriously, how many times in our lives will we take a moment to stop what we’re doing, to watch our President disembark from Air Force 1 and board Marine One, with big smiles on our faces, knowing the President is nearly home in the White House?

Let them say we lived in the time of Obama.

It is also political “payback” for groups who dared to vote for PBO in 2012. GOP and ownership class what to punish the groups that comprise the Obama coalition. This attack on food stamps is part of the same mindset that fuels the war on women and messing with voting rights. They are livid that PBO got reelected and raised rich folks’ taxes.

You know, eric, I think you may have something there. Didn’t quite look at it that way, before. I’m not even sure some in the GOP and ownership class would ever admit that to themselves, much less us (except people like Romney among his buddies, behind closed doors), because that kind of hatred is buried deep and is working in the subconscious. It must suck to be them.

Bob Dole and Tom Daschle speak out, in the LA Times:

    Stop playing politics with hunger

Nice article, but I noticed that the authors refuse to place blame on the GOP and instead refer to the “House”. I am sick and fucking tired of the patent refusal to call the GOP out on the harm it is causing. Democrats in the House are not to blame for this situation with SNAP, blame rests solely with the GOP. Why are Dole and Daschle afraid to state this fact?

      • 83 jacquelineoboomer
        September 20, 2013 at 5:48 pm

I’m thinkin’ that Dole and Daschle (both soft-spoken men) are more the old-school politicians who could still remain civil in their dialogue ~ one, a Republican, and the other, a Democrat. They’re still using the “we can work together” language.

I’m with you on what you said. All of that old-school crap has changed, and the harsh light of day needs to be on the GOP now, and ONLY the GOP.

        • 84 ericfive
          September 20, 2013 at 6:01 pm

Sorry for the rant, and your right about the “we can work together” message, which is helpful. I just wish for once the GOP be singled out for criticism, they earned it. The only GOP politician who actually openly calls the GOP out is Colin Powell.

          • 85 jacquelineoboomer
            September 20, 2013 at 6:51 pm

No need to apologize to me, because I can assure you I feel the same as you do. I was just trying to figure out with you why Dole and Daschle didn’t single out the GOP, as they should have. It’s all so very sickening.

      • 86 jziglar
        September 20, 2013 at 5:53 pm

I agree that they could have been more specific but at this point everyone associates the house with the republican party.

        • 87 pkayden
          September 20, 2013 at 5:57 pm

And it should be obvious to everyone that it is the Repubs are the ones hostile to the poor. Interesting that they push tax cuts for the rich and benefit cuts for the poor. Such a “Christian” agenda.

        • 88 ericfive
          September 20, 2013 at 6:07 pm

Everybody on this site knows the House is controlled by the GOP, but most people don’t follow politics as closely as we do. Having a dem and a repub give this message and not laying blame clearly on the GOP, it feeds the impression that both sides are at fault. It feeds into the “both sides do it” meme that permeates the MSM and deflects blame from land where it should, on the GOP’s door.

Great Article! Thanks for sharing it, JOB. Bob Dole was a conservative, but he was a sane and caring conservative. Something has gone terribly wrong with the current conservatives. Guess what, neighborhood grocery stores and farmers will not be spared with these heartless and draconian cuts in the SNAP ( food stamps) program. The rest of us will probably see dramatic rise in food prices. The people who voted for these moron tea baggers in the House of Rep. should be ashamed.
