ABC News: Obama Convening Export Panel At White House

President Barack Obama says rising U.S. exports have been “one of the biggest bright spots” of the U.S. economy. Obama pointed out the United States now sells more goods overseas than ever before, and those sales have boosted the U.S. economy. Obama says “made in America” means something around the world.

Obama was addressing his export council, an advisory committee on trade with members from a variety of U.S. industries. Thursday’s meeting at the White House included seven new members, among them the chief executives from IBM, Marriott, Lockheed Martin, Pfizer and Merck.

Being first can do that to us! I wonder if that lady in the orange outfit just might happen to be a TODObot?? I recognize the look on her face, can almost read her thoughts! 😆

        • September 19, 2013 at 4:50 pm

I had the same question – she definitely looks like a cheese-puff-eating TODer. Thrilled to be in the company of President Obama – although, they all looked like they were having a really good time…

This export council was shocked when the President declared his goal to double exports by the end of 2014, and now they look like the cat that swallowed the canary!

One of these days we should do a picture post of senior O-Admin (POTUS, VPJoe, ADHolder, SoS Kerry etc) pausing to greet the ‘average’ worker. I always think of the POTUS >janitor fist bump and the POTUS>London guard handshake when I think of this, but there are lots of other instances where they really show their awareness of you and I even in the midst of their ‘formal’ movements.

Yes, she’s the chief of the Metropolitan Police Department, DC-variety. She’s one tough law enforcement officer, but I always appreciate how she speaks to the public-at-large.

Just in from CNN: Pope Francis is instructing the U.S. Catholic Bishops

“Pope Francis said religion has the right to express its opinions but not to “interfere spiritually” in the lives of gays and lesbians, expanding on explosive comments he made in July about not judging homosexuals.

In a wide-ranging interview published today by Jesuit magazines, the pope also said that women must play a key role in church decisions and brushed off critics who say he should advocate more vocally against abortion and gay marriage.

If Catholic leaders fail to find a “new balance” between their spiritual and political missions, the pope warned, the church’s moral foundation will “fall like a house of cards.”

I completed training in doing outreach and enrollment with individuals and families who qualify for Medicaid (Oregon Health Plan) and financial assistance under the Affordable Care Act here in Oregon through the state exchange Cover Oregon. Enrollment is beginning Oct. 1. There are 240,000 human beings who are presently uncovered starting Jan. 1 will receive coverage under the Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid). Amazingly the coverage starts immediately with online enrollment, even retroactive 90 days coverage for medical expenses incurred if they were eligible the previous 90 days. This is going to be a big task, to do outreach to so many people who are low information, homeless and low income, and get them enrolled. But it’s a great effort. In Oregon every person on Medicaid is assigned to a CCO (Coordinated Care Organization) made up of multiple medical providers that integrate their services to provide efficient preventive care designed to bring down costs and keep people healthier. Amazingly those who are shopping online from the Qualified Health Plans are going to find them 20% cheaper than they were before. Obamacare has caused health costs to fall in Oregon and the premiums are among the lowest in the land.

    • September 19, 2013 at 5:21 pm

Great news Bill!!!!!!!! And, congratulations + thank you for the effort you are making to ensure care is available for each of your fellow Oregonians.

Speaker Pelosi is taking no prisoners in her press conference – now underway – per Lh’s CSPAN link, above.

    • September 19, 2013 at 5:45 pm

Bob, I thought it was a touching testimony to the level of acrimony among Republican House members that Pelosi said she hoped saying she “respects” the Speaker wouldn’t “hurt him too much.” Shows just how far down the road to insanity the House Republicans have come.

bowling league tonight. ugh!!! I’m already regretting joining it. 1st of all the lady at work now acts like we beasties & won’t shut up about bowling. 2nd I don’t really want to buy a ball or shoes or bags, but damnit that means ill have to find and use a different ball at the alley & have to wear the crappy ass rental shoes! 3rd, I don’t think I’m going to get any good & I just know it will piss off my “team” they are all reasonably good bowlers & I’m just shitty! Finally, I just don’t feel like going every damn Thurs!

but I already paid the dues so I’m in this bitch til May!!!! so, I’m just gonna have to get my anti-social behind up and go once a week until May. But be forewarned, I plan to complain the whole damn time!!!!

I wanted this to be fun…ugh! instead its gonna be this:

Looking forward to zizi2’s post on the US and Iran.

Meanwhile, this “open letter” to the NBC News President hit all the right points on Chuck Todd and David Gregory’s bias. It’s so good.

“Please tell me how you have managed to keep someone the Political Director of your news department and have him actually refuse to be responsible to provide facts to your viewership?”

Nicole didn’t mention how Todd failed Civics 101 yesterday, by claiming that PBO is a “lame duck.”

Low information voters eat this kind of stuff up, but I thought that “lame duck” Presidents referred to that period of time after the Nov election and Jan inauguration of his predecessor, e.g., Nov 2007-Jan 20, 2008.

Still steams me that Todd gets away with lying on NBC/MSNBC.

I’m very glad that people other than those of us on this blog are calling out Chuck Todd, et al and NBer on Morning C News. Finally Chuck blew his cover on Morning Joke…He has no idea what a journalist’s job is. Every time I see the President interviewed by various regional journalists, I want to scream at the network kids…..LOOK!!! THIS IS WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO!!!!!

I think is was jackass Panetta and Gates today who were ‘disappointed’ that PBO didn’t hold to his ‘red line’ pledge with Syria (heard about this on Stephanie Miller this morning).

I know these feeble minds are stressed, but PBO is not GWB or McCain. He didn’t say “If you cross the CW red line, I’m going to bomb the shit out of you.”

Using leverage to get Assad and Russia to (1) admit openly that Assad has CW; and (2) get rid of them seems like the absolute, best outcome of the ‘cross the red line’ pledge, don’t you?

How is this NOT a solution?

I’m so tired of teh Stupid I could scream.

Off topic, but because there’s so many women at this blog, thought you’d enjoy this story about a real-life Rosie-the-Riveter still at her at 93 years of age!

I sent these to a tweeter who has the “Rosie the Riveter” image (see end of article) as her Twitter avatar..

The quote in the second tweet was what appeared on the front page of LAT yesterday (forgot to capture the image from yesterday):

And remember, Karma just might visit Mr. Boehner one day when he least expect it, (money can blow like a fierce wind) and one of those mouths of one of those disabled citizens, senior citizens’ great grand children; one of those veterans of our country; or one of those children of a father or mother who had to go in and sign up for the assistance because of Mr. Boehner’s greedy friends taking our economy to the cliff; just might be the ONE Dollar provided by them (things do change) to get him a cup of coffee one day.

Remember the deeds of the fathers and mothers will follow to the next generation(s) after them. Just saying. This stuff is TRUTH. Better watch how they are living and doing their deeds of disgraceful acts in this Congress. Karma has a great memory and an excellent map that is keen on finding your location Mr. and Mrs. Congresspersona. HZ

Using what the Pope says, what does that say about the GOP who just voted to cut food stamps…

On a completely different tack – it is truly hard to understand why the Chuck Todds of the media REFUSE to call out the GOP on their plans to starve the poor and deprive them of health care reflects the worst of any regime in the history of the world.

Another Obamacare LIE that needs to be shut down ASAP!

A new campaign by Generation Opportunity, a conservative group that Yahoo News reports has “financial ties to billionaire businessmen and political activists Charles and David Koch,” is taking this third approach. Generation Opportunity wants to specifically target college students this fall, spending up to $750,000 on a campaign to convince young people they don’t need health insurance.
“What we’re trying to communicate is, ‘No, you’re actually not required to buy health insurance,’ ” Generation Opportunity’s president, Evan Feinberg, explained in an interview with Yahoo News. “You might have to pay a fine, but that’s going to be cheaper for you and better for you.”
How does Generation Opportunity want to get that message across to college students? They’re planning a college tour, bringing anti-Obamacare literature and beer coozies emblazoned with the words “opt out” to 20 different campuses. And they’re also unveiling an ad campaign that features an unsettling image of “Uncle Sam” appearing in the doctor’s office to subject young adults to invasive exams.

    Horrid bastards.
