π I’ve got two more from him, so decided it was time for the block button. I looked up the Turkish for goodbye – HoΕΓ§akal – and tweeted it to him. I just hope it’s the right word, and not, say, “will you marry me?”
Yeh, I dunno what it ‘s with people hi-jacking other folks conversation when they have absolutely nothing related to it to contribute. Really annoying. I’ve had to block a few people for doing that after I asked them to stop, repeatedly. Sux for them! π
Happy, Happy, Happy Birthday, Dudette–our music master, our history buff, our passionate defender of our wonderful president. May your day be filled with all the best treats imaginable and may your year ahead be the happiest ever.
Happy Birthday, Dudette!! No one but you would appreciate this as a birthday greeting:) Hugs and love sent your way today!! Girl, go celebrate and dance like no one is watching!!
Yeah. Right. Gotcha. π My mother-in-law always claims that she removes the sugar and other fattening ingredients whenever she decides to indulge in desserts. Whatever works. π
I will be celebrating my son’s birthday on Sunday. He’ll be 20 but it doesn’t seem like that much time has passed. [sigh]
I see that the sun is shining and the temperature is pleasant in honor of your birthday. I hope your birthday is going great and gets better as the day progresses.
Sometimes, Lawrence has strokes of brilliance and deepest soul, then other times, he’s gone freakin’ bonkers.
Never know WHAT yer gonna get from that guy.
Aw, it’s not so bad dot. Although, if we weren’t in the middle of some major stuff, I’d have taken the day off.
But then I would’ve missed the lovely flowers and breakfast yummies my team had waiting for me when I arrived.
Such a bunch of sweeties — here at TOD and at work. Today’s just been GREAT!
Africa, every day in every way, we make things a little easier for our president. If all us spread the message just a little farther, soon the whole country will understand.
Taxpayers have largely picked up the hospital tabs for victims of gun violence in the United States β around 80 percent of their emergency department and inpatient care β and funded more than half a billion dollars in medical care for firearm assault victims in 2010, according to a new study.
The victims, mostly young males and residents of low-income areas, are disproportionately more likely to be publicly insured or not have any insurance at all, according to the study by the Urban Institute, a nonpartisan think tank, while they are hospitalized more than twice the national average.
The cost of a stay for a firearm assault injury was nearly $14,000 more than the average inpatient stay, so the medical bills of gun violence victims amount to about $630 million a year, according to Embry Howell, author of the study and a senior fellow with the Urban Instituteβs Health Policy Center.
THIS IS NOT OK! I’ve just about had it with with gun business. Our school just put up a fortress gate all around the playground and IN THE PLAYGROUND, at our school! WTF! It looks like a prison for god sakes! Heaven forbid that would should instead ask for ANYTHING like common sense safeguards in protecting our children and communities like keeping the weapons out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill! OH NO! That’s beyond the pale to expect anything like that! We’ll just spend millions creating little prisons for school children and scare the holy shit out of them and give the parents a false sense of security. I am fucking done with this. DONE. It’s effecting my psyche now….even the guy putting up the fortress yesterday thought this was BS! I tell you, something needs to be done, and fast. The kids are talking about this and are definitely impacted by all this. It’s not good for them. Not good. Maybe the parents will be pissed enough to do something, who knows….i feel very anxious and angry this morning…..I worry that the very gates that they put in to “protect” these kids, will be the very thing that keeps the caged in kids from escaping the dangers they thought they would prevent. I’m just beside myself. We need to stop this fucking madness.
Df, you have right to be angry. We should all be seething mad that a lobby group and one industry are wreaking such destruction on our country and on the psyches of our children. We must demand that every person who runs for office pledges to control gun violence or we will work against them. We have to keep pushing Bob’s plan for insurance for gun owners. We have let a small minority take over the country because of the abject cowardice and greed of our congressional reps. I agree with you that enough is enough.
soo what a lot of stupid comments I received last night after tweeting Emily’s list on their premature declaration of “Madame President” in regards to Hillary… from ‘progressives’. silly buggers.
Yeah, I got a couple too sherijr. The fact they’re focused on 2016, and not the midterms, shows just how selfish and friggin’ stupid they are. Clueless.
yep, they are so Hillary obsessed… and yet she hasn’t even declared she’ll run. One person tweeted me that if not for the ‘sexist media’ she would have won. Sure, ’cause we all know theres no racism in the media… and Hillary’s campaign was sooo perfectly run. gimme a break. Like someone else tweeted last night: “I have nothing against Hillary, it’s her supporters I hate”. To be fair, I don’t hate her supporters.. but some of them are just wrong.. and I do still have issues with Hillary herself, due to her BS during the campaign.. I don’t forgive or forget as decently as our President does π
It’s too hilarious that they still believe sexism in the media cost Hillary, and that racism in the media is never an issue at all. Oh gaaawd, these people.
People blinded by their own prejudices see what they want to see. In the end, Hillary has to earn our support and it won’t come to her without effort. Massive numbers of people working their hearts out to elect someone comes from their own love and conviction and not because some Hillary person spouts off at us.
Wow, that was WONDEFUL! Can’t say I’ve been much of an Akon fan, but that right there was BEAUTIFUL! I’m guessing it was made for the World Cup. I missed it somehow. Bookmarked so I can download this baby later.
Dudette!! Sending you your favorite cyber cake filled with love and geeky joy!! Do something grand for yourself today. You’re a treasured presence here in TODville. Thank you for all you bring to us every day. CHEERS!!
On another note, I went to a presentation given by Planned Parenthood about getting the word out about Obamacare last night…it wasn’t quite what I expected it to be, but a bunch of us volunteered to work to get info out to people about their options with the exchanges. About 40 people showed up last night, nearly standing room only left by the time they packed everyone in….great turnout. This train is rolling! A bit of good news after my rant:)
Thanks for sharing that, Desert. We need some good news. I have a little myself. Yesterday I helped number 62 acquire a voter’s identification. Yay!!!!
Thanks for sharing df – this is excellent!! No wonder the GOP is so pizzzed and the MSM is trying to distract with all kinds of nonsense – lurching from one day to the next on a different anti-Obama topic trying to see which one sticks.
Good news, df.
My local drug store has laminated Obamacare info glued to their checkout counters and plenty of informative easy-to-understand ACA brochures for customers in prime spots.
There is no stopping this.
12 more days.
The opinion writers at the Washington Post seem to have an intense PERSONAL hatred for PBO, which colors their commentary and pollutes their analysis. Kudos to David Ignatius for calling them out and pointing out how detached from reality their condemnation of PBO’s Syria strategy really is. My only complaint is his refusal to confront the elephant in the room concerning the true cause of their hatred for PBO (he instead wrote some jibberish about John McCain’s influence on foreign affairs). I have no doubt that many of these opinion writers would have booed and hurled racial slurs at Jackie Robinson when he dared to integrate professional baseball.
No…I definitely think that late night movies with Danny should NOT include this! I thought that he’s strangle himself, too…so glad that he’s ok !! He doesn’t get “style points” but he sure is smart and determined! Remind you of anyone????
Thanks Df! This is great stuff. Danny and I can watch it together when he’s sleeping over at Aunty VC. Also planning to teach him how to use Google maps, so he can find his way to my place when Chips irritates him.
Here’s my “Danny” story. When I was three-ish and my middle sister was nine-ish, she got a mad crush on a boy named Danny. She climbed up to the highest step on the sliding board and started belting..”Ooooh, Danny Boy, oh Danny Boy I love you soooo.” Even at my tender age I thought she was making a damned fool of herself. Still cringe when I think about all the dumbfounded faces looking up at her.
I find myself extremely annoyed as the Republicans prepare to vote to repeal ObamaCare yet again. It pisses me off that they want to deny Americans while our tax dollars immunize and cure HIV/AIDS and cancer in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas. Here at home, nearly half of all states reduced funding or provided no funding for vital immunizations and cancer detection.
Wouldnβt you think the same values that we hold for Iraq weβd pledge for all Americans? If extending healthcare to citizens is the measure of caring and compassion, it is fair to say generosity does not begin at home. I hope you’ll take the time to read my post….and I hope it pisses you off enough to inspire a call, email, tweet to your representatives.
They’re trying to get rid of “federal government”. All this mess is about state’s rights…the right to discriminate, pay workers next to nothing, white superiority and separation.
Their endgame is raising $$$$$ off their bullshit.
Same thing that happened to Marriage Equality will happen with ACA.
After Sup Ct did away with DOMA the head of the GOP, Rush Limbaugh, advised his party to move on as that fight was over.
I think their endgame, FayPax is to undermine what will be the singular triumph of a black president. It’s not the health care act itself, since it’s a conservative, business centered approach. It’s the fact that it will ensure Barack Obama’s place in history and they cannot–absolutely cannot–accept that. There is nothing else that matters to them, not facts, not the good of the American people. If a Republican president got elected (God help us) and introduced the same plan, they would embrace it happily.
I so agree with you, Jackie. They want President Obama to be an asterisk in the history books. It’s sad to me that no one sees the connection between their constant display of hatred and the upsurge in violence.
Mr. Ross said the presidentβs reliance on letters to Iranian leaders made sense because in the absence of a formal relationship, βThere are few other fully authoritative ways to convey a message we completely control.β The letters, his advisers say, also reflect the value that Mr. Obama attaches to direct diplomacy.
Mr. Obama and Mr. Rouhani both plan to speak to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday. Will they try an even more direct from of diplomacy: greeting each other in person? The White House says nothing is planned.
For now, though, Mr. Obamaβs pen-pal diplomacy has accomplished the most basic goal of any letter. It got a reply.
I hope they can come to some sort of agreement; I have faith in President Obama. Let us also hope that Netanyahu is smart enough to take advantage of this coming together of POTUS and the Iranian leader.
John Boehner is implying that asking to raise the debt limit is adding to the national debt. THAT IS WRONG AND A LIE! He needs to be called out on that!
You know most cable pundits, so call journalists like Chuck Todd, it’s not their job to tell the truth. It’s their job to seek ratings by allowing Republicans to come on their show and lie, lie, lie.
The other possibility is that the journalists are so concerned about being first that they do not do their homework like Tim Russert did to prepare ahead for all possible answers to their coming questions. If they did their prep work they would know when the politician was lying. Accepting all that is said with the pretense that it is not their job to correct misinformation eases their own workload tremendously. I think that is called lazy and sloven journalism.
this is the role of the Press…to call that statement an untruth…but it is also a lie because it is a deliberate untruth as told by Boehner because he knows what he says it not true
I’m late to say this because I just read your beautiful poem Jacqueline. Thank you so much for this. These poems are a treasure. I’m with all the others who hope they don’t stop at being seen just here. They deserve a wider audience.
Glad Ann Curry is doing again what she does best: real world reporting. Her talents were wasted on Today. She is so much better than that!
I hope NBC continues to get smarter and have her do these indepth interviews and report on important issues.

Lawrence O’Donnell Praises Rand Paul for ‘Brave’ Statement on President Obama Regarding Drug War:
Yes, he quoted the ACLU statement. Rand Paul is just trying to expand his reach. He is a racist states righter just like his papa.
I felt the same FayPax. He will say or read anything to expand his base. Action speaks louder than words.
If you’re praising Rand Paul for anything you might want to rethink everything.

I hope they can come to some sort of agreement; I have faith in President Obama. Let us also hope that Netanyahu is smart enough to take advantage of this coming together of POTUS and the Iranian leader.
Happy Birthday Dudette!!
Thanks Wanda! π
Rachel Maddow on the SCAM PART of Conservative Politics.

Part? The whole goddamn platform is a scam.
Yet she spends a good fraction of her show promoting the Libertarian part of that scam.
Maddow and Hayes seem to spend all of their time in some theoretical Disney land that is full of hypotheticals, none of which works in the real world.
So far, I am liking this guy.
Smart man.

House GOP: Obama can either defund ObamaCare or shut down government….how the press even PRETENDS to take GOP seriously is beyond me
————————————————————–
It’s not the presses job to take the GOP seriously, as per Chuck Tool.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dudette!
Mooooooooorning GGail!
Thank you GGail! π
π Oh shit…NOW WHAT! Love that PBO will meet with Rouhani. Love it.
Wow! Just wow! What is the world is going on in Iran? Whatever it is… I like it!
John Boehner is implying that asking to raise the debt limit is adding to the national debt. THAT IS WRONG AND A LIE! He needs to be called out on that!
Where is he saying this? If he’s saying it on Cable TV, then the host should correct him on the spot. This is not a matter of opinion.
Well, as usual, df, their “everything” is not enough. All air and no substance.
this is the role of the Press…to call that statement an untruth…but it is also a lie because it is a deliberate untruth as told by Boehner because he knows what he says it not true

Good answer…
My answer would have been: I consider war Cowardness. Greediness. Ugliness. Thoughtlessness. Dumbness.= GW Bushness & Co.
Aw, thank you, carolyn. Enjoy your day!
Agreed. That interview was extremely professional and very revealing. Excellent work. She’s in her element.
Eat it Matt Lauer!
Happy Birthday, Dudette.
Have a Great Day!
Thanks Nena! π
What a FANTASTIC picture! Happy belated birthday, Dudette. Hope it was as fabulous as you are. π
