In case you missed it in the comments today, a beautiful story from Dakota:

Good Afternoon TOD Family.

Off the topic at hand, but I have been trying to post this uplifting story all day keep getting interrupted by less important things like…work and a stupid fire drill with a loudly blasting horn, that SOME folks didn’t seem to think applied to them!!! Anyway, now that’s off my chest…here’s my story.

I work for a hospice company and one of duties is supervising home health aides. All of our aides must be certified and are paid at a higher rate, so the good news about minimum wage and overtime protection doesn’t really apply to them. Whenever we get a new client, an entire team is at their disposal, aides, doctor, nurses, volunteers if desired, social worker and a chaplin. We actually have two chaplins.

A couple of weeks ago, one of our chaplins, whose office is right next to mine put up a photo of President Obama. It’s the one in front of the capitol building when he was campaigning in 2008. Now, I was surprised at this because not only are we not supposed to to talk politics in the office (HA! Just about all of the people who work in this office are PBO supporters), but the owners of our company are religious right-wingers who have held fundraisers for our rethug governor. Now to be fair, the CEO has always been very supportive of me and I do appreciate that. Last Wednesday, she came to our office because we finally had this stupid audit that they’ve been driving us nuts with it for a year! Well, wouldn’t ya know she parks her stuff right in the chaplin’s office right in front of this 8×10 photo of the President on her desk! I thought to myself, “Oh, shit,” but nothing was said.

Turns out that the chaplin, who is female, was instrumental in starting a hospice in Honolulu, HI…the very same one that took care of the President’s grandmother. The photo is a copy of one that was given to the hospice aide and signed by the President. The inscription reads “Thank you for taking such good care of my Tutu. Barack Obama.” Someone at the hospice, sent the photo to the chaplin a long time ago, but she decided she was going bring it into the office and keep it on her desk. Her feeling is that this is was a wonderful tribute to hospice workers and that no one would dare part their lips to complain and no one has. I really like this chaplin…she’s a sweetheart.

****

We’ll catch up with newsie stuff in the morning – for now, chat away!

PS Huuuuuuge thanks again to LL for today’s wonderful post.

Love that wonderful story from Dakota. That’s a special calling doing hospice work. Deep respect and honor for all who work in that field.

Pretty amazing to have such a meaningful connection to the President through his beloved Tutu. What a lovely tribute!

I got a email from Adam Parkhomenko asking me to order a free “Ready for Hillary” bumper sticker. I couldn’t get in touch with him to tell him that “Hell No” I don’t want one of those bumper sticker. We already have a President, and I ain’t thinking about Hillary. So leave me alone. That is what I would have told him if I could.

Washington gridlock is not the result of President Obama’s lack of “style”, it is the result of a determined opposition that hates this president more than it loves this country.
The beltway press insists on ignoring this basic truth. After all, if you can just blame the president for not being able to work out Congress’ teenager issues (aka the “I hate you” stage), then you have absolved yourself from doing the job that a free press was created to do: find out and investigate the nitty gritty and dysfunction in Congress yourself.

Now I don’t mind folks wanting Hillary Clinton run, etc… however referring to her at this point in time as “Madam President” is really annoying. We have one President.. and he earned that title and the job. Hillary hasn’t. What is wrong with these people?

    • September 18, 2013 at 8:13 pm

        September 18, 2013 at 8:27 pm

And MSNBC (hardball)has been waxing poetic this evening about Bill Clinton’s speech “winning” PBO a second term. Never mind the thousands of volunteers and dedicated staff for the entirety of 2012…never mind the millions of voters, who stood in line, some up to 10 consecutive hrs, just to cast their votes…never mind the campaign and DNC staff, Messina, cutter, axelrod, Debbie-Wasserman Schultz and key campaigners – VP Biden, FLOTUS, the celebrity volunteers like Eva Longoria, Gloria Estefan, Beyonce, Jay-Z, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, and many more, the fashion designers, the individual bloggers/tweeters who supported PBO thru thick and thin and helped to disseminate positive info and push back against Romney and MSM’s lies. The magnificent IT team who made innovate use of modern technology to reach all kinds of people…and most importantly, the candidate himself, who inspired of all whom and what I just mentioned because they believed in him and wanted him to continue and complete the good work he started in 2009.

No it wasn’t any of that – it was just one speech that Clinton made in September 2012 that made PBO win….according to hardball….interestingly, the same Clinton couldn’t help his wife win a DEM primary in 2008, despite the fact that she was already the anointed one.

        • September 18, 2013 at 8:32 pm

“….. interestingly, the same Clinton couldn’t help his wife win a DEM primary in 2008, despite the fact that she was already the anointed one.”

And you can rest your case right there, Hopefruit.

Thing is, I’m not as hostile to Hillary as many on TOD, but her supporters are pushing me that way.

          • September 18, 2013 at 9:38 pm

Chips – I’m not even that hostile to Hillary, but I also think that there are probably several female candidates out there who are being scared away by this inevitability nonsense – who might be more progressive than Hillary, and may have more potential to win an election! These people are their own worst enemies and may only succeed in dividing the party. I want a female candidate, too, but I’m not ruling out that there may be a male candidate who is eminently qualified and standing up for the causes most important at this time (e.g. Gov O’Malley).

          • 57 hopefruit2
            September 18, 2013 at 11:17 pm

The thing is, some in the MSM are not even her supporters as such. They just use the Clintons to passive-aggressively put down PBO. Notice they always compare the Clintons with PBO, almost never with the GOP. If Hillary is running in 2016, she’s going to be running against a GOPer, not PBO.

Furthermore, they NEVER compare GOP past presidents, or candidates with each other. When was the last time you heard Matthews comparing Christie with GWB? or Rand Paul with Romney? Or Rubio with Christie? It’s always the Clintons with PBO. ALWAYS….

The media’s objective is to divide the DEM party – particularly, to destroy what they perceive is their biggest threat at the moment – which is Barack Obama and his coalition of supporters.

        • 58 Vicki
          September 18, 2013 at 8:35 pm

Couldn’t agree more, hf2. It was a good speech but I doubt it gave PBO even one more vote than he would have gotten if Clinton had been sidelined with laryngitis.
The reasons for the tremendous victory were those you cited.

I haven’t watched Hardball once in his new time. He seems crazy to me.

Amen, amen, amen hf. And no gd Hillary in 2016. Wouldn’t care if PBO himself told me to- never voting for her.

        • 62 nathkatun7
          September 19, 2013 at 1:04 am

Bill Clinton, both in 1992 (43%) and 1996 (49%), couldn’t even win the majority of Americans. President Obama won the majority of Americans twice. People trying to re-write history wan’t us to forget that. Chris Matthews is so invested in white privilege.

During the primary I intend to support any Candidate not named Clinton. If she is the nominee of the Democratic party I will close my nose and vote for her in the General election. But already these Clinton supporters are beginning to stink up the place. For Heavens’ sake President Obama has just been re-elected, but they are treating him like he is the last month of his presidency.

      • September 18, 2013 at 8:42 pm

        Disrespectful, indeed!

I was so against HRC in 2008. Was terrified of the idea of Bill rattling around the White House. And all the damn *drama* that seemed to accompany her wherever she went. And Lanny Davis and Mark Penn gave me the creeps.

So much was going on 2007-2008, “No Drama Obama” and his “Two Davids” cool sidekicks (Axelrod and Plouffe) had me from Springfield Illinois in 2007.

I so hated the PUMAs, taking a page out of the code-pink playbook.

        No Hillary in 2016.

        Let this President govern.

For crying out loud, it hasn’t even been 8 months since the President’s inauguration and f***ing upChuck is calling him a lame duck. WTH? No one in their right mind considers a President a “lame duck” until AFTER the next Congress is elected (in this case, 2014). If Dems take back the House, what kind of lame duck does that make this President?

Jackass gets paid for this rubbish?

This ticked me off more than the “I’m not responsible for reporting facts” furor today: (posted on an earlier thread)

I just checked their MPOTUS website – they’re trying to use merely veiled references to Hillary, saying there are other women candidates each year, as well as 2016 – but they’re not fooling anybody. It’s too early, and it’s turning off any number of Obama supporters, including lots of us women!

PRESIDENT OBAMA’S MINI STATE OF THE UNION

President Obama’s remarks to the Business Roundtable today was like a mini state of the union. He presented the cold hard facts about the state of our government today. Things are improving, but they are not where we want them to be. He called out the GOP and did not mince words. After laying the facts on the line, PBO asked the group to flip the narrative and imagine Democrats holding the country hostage the way the Republicans are now. It was a brilliant move. PBO also focused on how unprecedented it was for a small faction of the GOP to make demands and threaten a shutdown of the government for purely ideological (and deep hatred of him) reasons. The only adult in the room made the GOP look like elected government officials run amuck and out of control. He made it clear it doesn’t have to be this way.

On Monday, President Obama’s remarks about Lehman Brothers and the financial meltdown were so powerful it sent the GOP and the MSM into a rage about his TONE. Also, the White House has created a spectacular post at whitehouse.gov with audio/charts of about seven cabinet officials recounting the financial meltdown and the actions the administration took with the recovery act. Now today PBO is meeting with the Business Roundtable and making it clear that they need to speak up and use their influence on the GOP or the country and THEIR businesses are going to suffer. Now, if the GOP continues with the debt ceiling/shutdown madness PBO will probably have to make an address to the nation to explain the impact of their reckless behavior.

In the meantime, I am really enjoying all of the groundwork being laid in preparation for the GOP shenanigans. The White House is getting ready and the more information the American people have the better.

I am eternally hopeful. Those in DC/NY pundits who were able to delude themselves about Syria, by mocking both SoS Kerry and Pres Obama……If US makes peace with Iran…….there is hope for peace in the Middle East……I am hopeful. Yes, I am.

    • September 18, 2013 at 8:50 pm

This is the most important and fascinating news of the year.

Most MSM DC echo-chamber weren’t born or were children during the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979. They don’t remember how relentless that story was, that it was on the news like the Vietnam war was a decade earlier — every night for over 400 days. America had its 2nd gasoline shortage, with gas stations rationing and lines of an hour or more to get gas.

Most MSM don’t remember, so they don’t understand what a HUGE deal this is for the world, and could probably only have been started because we are fortunate enough to have such a considerate, wise and strategic leader. Can you imagine how Hillary and her PUMAs would be acting right about now?

      • 121 Dudette
        September 18, 2013 at 8:55 pm

        Incredible!

        • September 18, 2013 at 9:55 pm

These are truly revolutionary times. I’m holding my breath that this thawing of Iran leads to an open relationship and an end to the
nuclear standoff. Only the patient firmness and global vision of President Obama could possibly pull this off.

      • 123 Nena20409
        September 18, 2013 at 8:58 pm

Now if this….knock on every wood turns out as I am hoping…….the Neo-Cons would die a horrific death. The world will stand and notice. The media would have to stand up and report the News.

I remember how then sen Obama was attacked for saying that he was willing to speak with the Iranian president.

Peace is what is in the head.

      • September 18, 2013 at 8:58 pm

Carolyn, if you’re here, see second tweet:
“(Reuters) – President Barack Obama has told Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani in an exchange of letters that the United States is ready to resolve its nuclear dispute with Iran in a way that allows Tehran to show it is not trying to build weapons, the White House said on Wednesday.”

Clearly, the win-win Presidential diplomacy upending the Beltway echo-chamber “zero-sum game” philosophy (you can only win when the other person loses).

        • 125 carolyn
          September 18, 2013 at 9:16 pm

I’m here…..we are going to see some strange and wonderful events unfold because of the way our President looks at negotiation…and the world. Yes, Rouhani will save face, look brave, and the President will get what he has sought for at least eight years. This plan, this goal is not new to him. He has thought about this at least since he was in the Illinois Senate.
Thanks for bringing these to my attention Arapaho.

    • September 18, 2013 at 9:59 pm

Totally agree with you, global. The Chamber of Commerce was vicious toward the president and supported the election of every one of these saboteurs to Congress. Did they honestly believe they could control these radical subversives once they were elected? They are reaping exactly what they sowed in 2010 and now they’re scared of what they created.

I agree with the statements that many are making about the arrogance of the people who run EMILY’s List .

I could be wrong but I think that “Madam President” is the title name that they chose to give to a series of speeches to which they invite women leaders who are prioritizing the election of a female POTUS.

I don’t if HRC has spoken at any of these seminar,

I seem to recall that MO’s Senator Claire McCaskill spoke at the most recent one (may be in Iowa).

Apart from this nonsense of focusing on 2016 when so many critical battles (very important to women) are raging NOW, I am also pissed of at the people running EMILY’s list & other women’s organization for :

    (1) NEVER once standing up to defend FLOTUS or the First Daughters when they are being attacked in the most callous way possible;

    (2) NEVER saying a word in defense of Dr. Susan Rice when she was being attacked – contrast that on how much hell they have raised over Ms. Yellen as potential candidate for Fed Chair.

I wish they would be consistent & defend or advocate for ALL women
