The pleasure is all mine Zizi, that was a masterful post, like LL’s, truly honored to have ‘you people’ – to quote the Romney woman – post here! Thank you again.

Zizi, thank you for your masterful essay on the previous thread.

I’m still studying it and am so appreciative of the depth of your knowledge and the wonderful way you presented this complex situation.

I know so little about the Middle East, didn’t realize that Syria had a Prime Minister as well as a President.

  9. September 14, 2013 at 9:21 pm

    GE all…
Great post – both to Zizi and LL for the wonderful posts.

Someone stated that the media was quiet…think about it….whenever the President “wins” the MSM is always quiet! Why, because they are preparing their talking points or better yet, tweaking it and then all will come with the same wording like “lucky!” There will be one or two words that they will be floating…mark my words.

Chips I always like when you write “Heโ€™s good, this Obama fella, heโ€™s good.” Makes me so proud to be here during his presidency.

    • September 14, 2013 at 9:26 pm

AMK is right that the MSM will end up in the history books with egg on their faces.

One of Stephanopoulos’ tweets about the obstruction that PBO has faced was posted on a previous thread.

I wonder if he can take off his PUMA hat when he interviews our President tomorrow?

Will check with TOD for updates, don’t plan on watching real-time (which is actually 3 hours after everyone on the East Coast).

This is a ridiculous effort on MHP’s part.

Events are still unfolding, so anything she has to say, either pro- or con- is pure speculation at this point. And not very interesting speculation at that. So glad that Zizi gave us real info in the prior post.

She’s a waste of space. Pretty smart but the first time I saw her as a guest (either on Keith Olbermann or Maddow) I thought she didn’t have any common sense and that seems to be holding true. As is pretty much every one of them. I so long for just news. Period. Without the person reading it throwing in their commentary. But it DOES NOT EXIST anywhere on television anymore.

        • September 14, 2013 at 9:39 pm

“But it DOES NOT EXIST anywhere on television anymore.”

One of the 3 reasons we stopped watching broadcast and cable now approaching 2 decades ago. We will occasionally watch recorded segments, but that’s it. To get access to ‘news’ one needs to rely on the internet and the wealth of primary observers recording events as they unfold – vetted by how reliable they have been over time.

Yes. It’s really shocking isn’t it. The framers of the Constitution/First Amendment would be horrified to see what “freedom of the press” has morphed into these days. I wonder if we didn’t have the internet if we would have the power and will to demand just news on tv; instead of 100% punditry.

it is sad when we feel that some people need to be reminded that PBO is NOT the enemy!

When I think of PBO’s dedication to moving this country and world forward, I imagine that the push for socio-economic justice is like running a relay race – not a sprint.

in this relay for equity & progress, PBO is the person anchoring the socio-economic justice relay. There are many people who are playing vital roles in the relay as PBO navigates the challenges along the race track.

It is therefore only prudent that members who are on his team don’t trip up the anchor.

rather, we each need to do our part in ensuring that he completes the relay in a timely fashion and on the winning pedestal.

The United States and Russia have reached a deal on a framework for removing all of Syriaโ€™s chemical weapons by mid-2014, Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced in Geneva Saturday.

Under the framework agreed after three days of negotiations in Geneva, Syria would declare all of its chemical weapons sites within seven days, allow inspectors on the ground and access to any site by November, and the removal of the weapons from Syria for destruction by mid-2014. (Full framework text, released by the State Department, below the jump).

โ€œThe world will now expect the Assad regime to live up to its public commitment,โ€ Kerry told a packed news conference in the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva Saturday, the Associated Press reports. โ€œThere can be no games, no room for avoidance, or anything less than full compliance by the Assad regime.โ€

โ€œWe have committed to a standard that says, verify and verify,โ€ Kerry said

The diplomatic breakthrough in Geneva today is simply stunning. The โ€œframework agreement for elimination of Syrian chemical weaponsโ€ reached by Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov delivers, in writing at least, just about everything President Barack Obama demanded when he threatened to attack the Assad regime earlier this month.

When you think of all our recent presidents only President Obama is a truly integrated totally admirable leader and person. Ike in private had affair and apparently quite cutting and cold (see recent book on Ike and Dick); JFK a philanderer on multiple drugs, dawdling on civil rights; Nixon paranoid crook (Vietnam); LBJ accomplished but Vietnam and weird in private; Clinton a philanderer also, killed a mentally retarded prisoner to divert attention from affairs during primary, also all his deregulation of banks; Bush already covered by LL. PBO is the American Dream in person, no skeletons in his closet. Best piece on him was the Michael Lewis article. Totally consistent in values and his North Star since the ’90s.

I hope MHP discusses how awful it would be if POTUS has also brought about diplomatic progress with Iran too.

The final piece of a diplomatic process in Syria involves Iran. This column has argued, as far back as April, that a shared red line on chemical weapons might be bridge between the US and Iran on Syria. There have been several accounts of messages between the US and Iran about Syria, as Ali Hashem has reported for Al-Monitor.

On Sept. 9, Obama seemed to give a nod to Iran when he said in an interview with Fox News, โ€œEven Assad’s allies recognize that โ€ฆ he crossed the line in using chemical weapons. Iran itself was subjected to chemical weapons use by Saddam Hussein. Their populations remember what terrible weapons these are.โ€

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif is expected to meet with EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton in New York on Sept. 23, as reported by Laura Rozen, in order to get the P5+1 talks back on track. Barbara Slavin writes this week that former State Department official Robert Einhorn, who was a member of the US team at the P5+1 negotiations, advocates direct talks between the US and Iran to break the deadlock in the P5+1 talks.

Totally agree, COS. He is who he has been since his days at Columbia, community organizer in Chicago, Harvard Law ….. and that is what drives those who hate him because they cannot get past the reality that he is a fine person who happens to have dark skin.

But, as I noted in a tweet yesterday, the Founding Fathers’ words would remain words until the day came when Americans would be forced to pass the test of whether they honored those words or not.

Exam Day happened most profoundly in American history on 4 Nov 2008. We now know how many Americans failed the exam. More importantly for the Union, for the USA, we know the majority of Americans have passed with flying colors.

She wasn’t willing to engage in a humanistic exchange of views…instead she got right down to attacking him personally, invoking falsehoods about his record, and portraying him as a liar who should not be believed.

Now it turns out that HE had the right approach all along, and she was wrong, so she wants group hugs from everyone…
