I’ve basically tuned out the negative nellies over the last week because I refuse to allow the media to manipulate my emotions over this issue. I have had complete trust in President Obama through this entire ordeal. I have watched this man govern our Nation through think and thin and honestly I really believe that he ALWAYS has this countries BEST interests at heart. I consider myself a dove when it comes to war but we are really fortunate to have PBO as our Commander-In-Chief during these volatile times in the middle east and Northern Africa. He is the master of diplomacy. All the cable chatter in the world cannot change my positive feelings about PBO’s leadership qualities. I’ve Got His Back!!!

You speak for me too Donna!

    • September 10, 2013 at 10:56 pm

You will probably notice I am reading and responding on this old blog post instead of the current one. I am way behind the time curve here basically out of some sort of inner fear, not about what PBO will say in his speech, but about how it will be received. I have been purposely avoiding the media for more than a week now due to their blaming game and unprecedented negativity to the Syrian crisis. I have relied on this site for my news take.
I have pretty much unconditionally supported PBO since before he decided to run for the presidency. I am proud of how hard he has worked for us and ashamed of how the media has portrayed him. This morning I had turned on NPR for the news and had to turn it off immediately when I heard they too were presenting a view against PBO instead of neutral facts. I set my TiVo to record his speech, but came here first to read the outcome before actually watching it. I am reading on now, but want to thank Chips for the site!

I agree completely. In fact, I have also tuned out. I have only watched a litter since last Wed. I was just disgusted, even with some of my favorites. The only person whose opinion really matters is PBO. When he speaks, I listen. If the MSM actually LISTENED to what he says, maybe their commentary would be more coherent.

They mock him and then demand that he take the steps he has already outlined, while ignoring the fact that he outlined them. I am totally disgusted. They don’t deserve him, but we certainly do.

From an outside viewpoint – this is quite amazing to watch – No GOP administration would ever have given Syria time to admit it had the weapons – and hand them over.

The media and the GOP are fighting hard to stop this looking like a big win for the President – they have not a clue what he might say this evening.

He doesn’t make any sense. People say he’s “bipolar”. Frankly, I’m beginning to wonder if it’s simply that he and his producers are doing theatre. Pure and simple bullshit theatre. Just playing hot and cold, in order to create some ratings, and keep all sorts of viewers interested. I don’t know.

Sober and dignified. Listening to him, I had three words in my mind: “maintaining the pressure”. The last couple of days have been encouraging, but there is still some hard work to do.

Those who call this man naïve don’t get it. At all.

Those who call him weak don’t get it. At all.

He’s the epitome of leadership. REAL leadership. Not chest pumping, bullying, and cheap political theatre. Media and critics, when will you GET IT ?

Wasn’t able to watch, just got online so looking at twitter comments. Many positive, some neutral and of course a few idiots. Then there are the ones that combine positive with idiocy, which of course I have to respond to:

    • September 10, 2013 at 9:33 pm

      • September 10, 2013 at 9:44 pm

And there lies part of the problem. So many believe that the President’s immediate (and only ) response was a call for military action. There seems to be little or no awareness that a diplomatic approach has been ongoing for a period of time.

Of course our cracker jack media helps to promote that perception.

This is something I never understand. PBO is all about working with the international community. The MSM has selective amnesia. I am mystified by their inability to recognize PBO’s consistency. I guess true history can’t compete with daily talking points.

  36. 119 Eveingeorgia

Turned off tv as soon as the president finished. He did what he was supposed to do, broke it down, step by step, and appealed all that is decent in us. I don’t know how much decency is left in this country, but I am glad we have a president who models wisdom,a sense of justice, and a firm resolve. Things will work out well, no matter what the MSM, the right and anybody else say. I trust this man.

I have had some relatively good natured back and forth with this individual on twitter, She has always been a strong PBO supporter but has been adamantly against any strike on Syria. After the speech she tweeted:

    https://twitter.com/EdieVP/status/377601698211979264

I confirmed she was serious. She has changed her mind. If this impacted someone who was strongly against, imagine the on the fencers. BTW, she has a nephew who was in the military and was exposed to chemical weapons, so that particular argument resonated with her.

For me this has always been an essential. If we didn’t respond we were saying to our folks who protect us everyday…”Too bad, you’re on your own, because now you are vulnerable to chemical weapons attacks at any time.”

  54. September 10, 2013 at 9:37 pm

I’m not listening to any commentary, but I thought this was a very important point—–that a global audience was also a target of PBO’s speech, namely Russia—-the pressure of a military response must remain for any hope of a diplomatic solution.
