Major Issue of the Day: New Puppy

Not my new puppy, but hopefully quite like him.

****

I’ve done it. I’ve only gone and done it. πŸ˜•

Today I committed to sharing my home – and my entire life – with a new puppy, who, if all goes well, will arrive at my door on October 19.

Oh gaaaawd.

I haven’t had a dog – apart from my dog nephew – in 10ish years, so I’m thinking: “What have I done?”

Any way, I need a name for my new little fella – help!

****

****

I reserve the right to reject all suggestions, especially any Chelsea player names UT and LL might offer.

Go on then, help.

****

Please note: An evil Chelsea Girl edited this post in an evil attempt to attract evil Chelsea names for my puppy – totally evil.

How about beautiful, amazing, winningest, handsome, Frank “Super Frank” Lampard? Or you can go with Wayne “Loser” Rooney.

  3. September 8, 2013 at 10:03 pm

Congrats Chips. They are a lot of work the first year but so rewarding later. Love my Toy Poodle. She sleeps next to me every night.

Took only a few moments of reflection on the name for your new friend, Chips, and it just seems natural that it be BARACK!!!

Your life will never be the same. I always thought myself as a cat person, not a dog person. And then Stewie plopped into our lives. Now I can’t live without the little shit, even when he’s TEARING UP MY BACKYARD.

Now you’ll have to make a tour of all TODers with dogs. Stewie is looking forward to meeting his new cousin.

Thank you Donna!! I shouldn’t really tempt fate, he hasn’t arrived yet, but despite never having even seen him, I love him intensely already!

          • September 11, 2013 at 12:27 am

Chips, we bought our puppy sight unseen, and she is the cutest, sweetest, most intelligent dog ever. When I saw the picture of the puppy with the big red bow, that was what did it for me — melted my heart and I knew she was the one.
Having a dog is so rewarding…hard work, but she has taught me so much. They love unconditionally and no matter what kind of day you’ve had, they are guaranteed to make it better.
            congrats and good luck!
            I like “Tod”

I remember when we received the 1st photo of our two beloved Siberian forest kitties a few years ago – magical!!! 2 months earlier we had lost a spectacular kitty who’d been with us for 15 years. These are special moments Chips and I hope you savor each of them.

Chiparoo, once you get some…ahem… SERIOUS…suggestions you probably should repost the actual voting. That is if you really want the village’s input. (It’s all I could do to restrain myself from ‘idiot’ after ‘input’. Haven’t a clue where that came from. Probably time for me to go to bed.)

You know Tavis Smiley is pitiful. And now we know who is paying Tavis and Corney West, some rich right wing conservative. I bet Tavis Mother is so disappointed in what he has allow himself to become, all because of jealousy. Pitiful.

“Dr. Brother-Prophet-Reverand West” needs to go read Joseph Epstein’s lecture on “ENVY”-One of the seven deadly sins, according to Christian theologians. His “ENVY” of President Obama has made him lose all his senses. May be if he took time to reflect on his own motivations and actions he would stop sounding insane in all matters concerning President Obama. In the state that he is now in, however, I will not be surprised to hear that he has decided to join the “Birther” movement. The same is true of his side-kick/enabler, Tavis Smiley.

At a brainstorming session in a group, when you’re not supposed to “judge” any ideas thrown out there by anyone in said group, I’m always the one the others quietly turn to as a group, with an incredulous “WHAT?????” look in their dull eyes. That said, how about:

    Sir O’Bo

Well, I voted for Sunny simply b/c my 7 yr old corgi is named Sunny for the same reason the Obama’s named their puppy….sunny personality…….but…….I have read that a dogs name should have two syllables so as not to confuse them with commands….sit, stay, down, etc;……..so I vote for CHIPY!

    • September 8, 2013 at 10:43 pm

Ah yeah Kathyrn, always prefer two syllables for a dog’s name, preferably ending in the -eeeeeee sound! That’s a hoot that your dog is Sunny, you should sue the White House for copyright!

    • September 8, 2013 at 10:52 pm

Corgi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a great corgi named Bryn. Most of my family have had corgis. Best. Dog. Ever! (Except for my beautiful Tessie and my beautiful dog Heidi, and well, everyone else’s beautiful dog too…)

Dogs are a gift to us humans. Most of my life I’ve lived with dogs. Mine have all been females, so am no good with boy names….but he will no doubt be a treasure.
We lost our beautiful Brittany spaniel, Rose, this past June. She suddenly failed…..kidneys, heart. She ran our home, regally and completely. The first several days, the three of us…..my husband, our poodle, Chanel, and I just sat around wondering what to do when. Rose had kept us on schedule! Also, dogs grieve. Chanel walked with her tail down, and was just panicky that we would leave her. About the middle of August we noticed that she was becoming herself again…..tail held up proudly, actually going outside for periods of time, not panicky when we left…..
I’ve had a number of wonderful dogs, we call them our girls, and each one enriched our lives. I’d love to have all of them together!

    • September 8, 2013 at 10:46 pm

I feel you Carolyn. We had a Bassett named Lucy. He lived until fourteen. We knew she had cancer, so we knew it was coming. She had puppies and we kept a girl. When her mother died she wouldn’t leave the yard anymore for a walk. She died about seven months later. She had cancer too. The other girl we had was so sad when Tootsie died, she moped too. But we had taken in an orphan puppy and that cheered her up. Oh how we loved them all. We have kitties too.

  30. September 8, 2013 at 10:41 pm

We have a new Labrador grandpup. He is now 3 months old. We don’t have grandchildren we have 2 granddogs. Our kids are teachers so we are the daycare for them. The new male puppy’s name is “Milo”. I think that would be a great name for your new puppy Cups.

Some 40+ years ago I knew a lab named DarkDog. She was a beautiful, wonderful smart and funny, dear little gal.. Everyone loved her! Another dog I liked a lot was named Bijma, he was majestic, part wolf and shepherd mix.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I’m so happy for you, Chips! Nothing like a puppy with sweet puppy breath, and eager to please attitude:) You’ll fall in mad love! I think you should name him PeeBo…As in “PBO” and then you can buy him a collar that says ” Barack’s Best Friend” like my dog has:)

SOOOOOO pleased for you! It IS a boy?? ( Not sure if I just assumed) I grew up having Labs….great dogs with a great temperament. If you bought it from a breeder, don’t they already have special names attached to them? Ours always did….I always rescue my dogs (and cats), so I have no idea about the breeder’s….my parents went the breeder route.

You’ll just know the right name when you see him. If you don’t end up choosing a name now…post his real picture and maybe then we can get a better feel:) I’m so jealous…..

    • September 8, 2013 at 11:05 pm

“I think you should name him PeeBo… As in β€œPBO” and then you can buy him a collar that says ” Barack’s Best Friend” like my dog has:)”

      DF, cuuuuuuutest thing ever!!!

It’s a boy, but I’m probably completely stupid to be getting excited until he arrives with me. Although, as I mentioned, I’ve been promised photos so will post tomorrow if they turn up.

I’m partly freaking out in a ‘OMG what have I done?’ kind of way, but mainly thrilled. I always had dogs as a kid, adored them, but work the last few years just made it impossible. Now I work from home 98.236473% of the time, so all’s good, and my sister said she’d looked after him if I’m ever away.

He’s not quite a rescue dog, but I’m getting him from someone who can’t keep him long term, and who would have had to put him down if no one took him. It’s a long story, but he’s a good man, and won’t let me have him until he’s 8 weeks old, wants him to stay with his mother til then.

Just prayin’ it works out, I want this little fella!!

  33. September 8, 2013 at 10:51 pm

  35. 116 vcprezofan2
    September 8, 2013 at 11:25 pm

Chips, I quite forgot to wish you the very best as you welcome your new house mate. I admit to being a mite hurt that you chose Sir O’Bo / O’Henry/ PeeBo/ Chief Cee/ ??/ when you could have chosen me as a house companion, but maybe you didn’t realize that *I* was already house trained. As others have implied, your life will never be the same, so I content myself with that. πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰

Have fun with the new guy when he arrives; may he bring you lots of happy moments and happy companionship!

Soooo cute! I can’t wait to see the real Axie – I voted for Axelrod. That way you could have Axelrod as a formal name, a short name (Axe) and a snuggle name “Axie”. Congratulations! Pets keep us soft on the inside. My kittie is snuggling up to me now. I love him so much. We’ve had him for 10 years and all of us are in love with him. He still thinks he’s a kitten πŸ™‚

Congrats Chips on a new puppy.

We once had a dog named Whiskey, later on, another named Lucky.

Lucky is my suggestion for a name for your puppy.

Both our beloved passed dogs looked like the picture on top of this thread.

Kind of late about name suggestions.
But you make beautiful music everyday here.
Hence names- Miles(male), Chaka(female). As in Miles Davis, Chaka Khan.

We just got a puppy too. It is a lot of work, but joyful.

Chipstick, great with a dog, and when a black Labrador I suggest You name him after the presidential limousine “the beast” , i.e. Beast or nicknamed
Beastie, because he will for sure be very protective of You. Looking forward to see pictures!
