Good night TOD. I know I’ve been harping on the Idris Elba show Luther, but it really is that good. Case in point, tonight’s episode was soo good and so full of suspense. It has been a long time since I yelled at a tv screen or since the ending of an episode mad me damn near cry. Tonight’s episode did that and I had a sense of foreboding that something was bout to hapen. Damn. I’m telling ya’ll if ya got Netflix, you need to watch Luther season 1 and 2 and then wait for season 3. It is worth it. One last episode and then that’s it. Damn you Luther writers.

The best part of that acceptance speech was when the President said, “I’m not just a candidate. I’m the President”. And Michelle had the most amazing look on her face. They know who they are.

…..and Sept 6, 2014, we will be looking back at what the President did this week, and how we have taken care of the Syria problem with great relief and pride. I firmly believe that.

    • September 6, 2013 at 8:01 am

Carolyn, I agree with that. Whenever things have looked the most discouraging, we’ve looked back and realized that the president accomplished something special, despite our qualms.

Hi Chips et al – so many thanks for all the lovely pictures today – they are needed.

Last night we got robo calls from Tony Abbott – buffoon that he is – and savior of Australia according to Rupert Murdoch’s Australian media – the latter might give the US grief – but he owns a massive % of the Oz newspaper business – and he uses it to hate on the Labor Party every chance he gets. He spent much news space getting Rudd to stand against Julia Gillard and then turned on Rudd so fast the guy is still reeling. I am no fan of Rudd – but the 2% are going to gain when the Liberal Party (our GOP) win this election – and everyone else will lose.

So I rang the office of my local member (liberal) and told them the party that robo calls is the party that is last on my ballot paper. Didn’t help me feel any better – but if it helps stop anyone using such a ghastly form of campaigning it will be a plus. And if I am miserable today – it’s only going to get worse after the votes are counted – sigh

So keep the photos coming – absolute delight to see those family values on display for the world to see.

Forgot to mention – I am cooking a cake. I never cook. Mr 99 comes home from work full of praises for someone who cooked a cake for everyone at morning tea. I can’t believe – after 39 years together – I can be spoofed into cooking a cake. Still – it will probably look like a Chips specialty and the kitchen looks somewhat like the morning after the party of my youth.

I’m curious, 99ts. Why do you say ‘cooking’ a cake as opposed to ‘baking’ one? Do you use a fire as opposed to an oven?

      • 34 99ts
        September 6, 2013 at 12:58 am

Must be an aussi-ism – I’ve never thought about it. I cook a “baked dinner” and I cook a cake. I’ve also cooked a boiled fruit cake which is done on top of the stove (I’m sure many folks here probably say bake a cake, maybe it is just because I do it so rarely!) And, as usual – the cake is double height in the middle and flat elsewhere – last time I baked (for you) a cake that was “just right” was when I was 16 & my mother was supervising.

And I can’t cook/bake in an oven – over a fire would probably result in burning the house down – or a bush fire – or whatever!

TS, you made me laugh! I didn’t mean to throw you off your stride; it just seemed unusual to me referring to a cake that way. I confess I’m not much of a baker either for the very reason that I rarely do it, and can never remember from one time to the next exactly what I did to produce the last perfect cake. The rarity stems from the fact that I love homemade cakes (without icing and filling and all that junk) so when I bake things don’t really get much chance to cool or sit around., and of course too much cake consumption won’t take long to show up on my body.

My daughter thought cakes came from the Cake Shop – until a cousin offered to cook (aah bake) a cake for her 6th birthday!

This one actually smells delightful – it just looks all out of shape – sigh

            Sweet dreams and all that

Hello and good morning Chips and TOD. Must say, after re-viewing PBO’s convention speech again just now (and boy am I sleepy)- that wasn’t just a president and candidate speaking. That was a humanitarian. As for anyone at that time who may have panned the speech by comparing it to Clinton’s (or Michelle’s), they were hating and they were scared. He spoke to everyone in the country, while the opponent only spoke to a group. It’s just that simple. Powerful. Good night !!

      • September 6, 2013 at 12:48 am

Thanks, vc. I’m off to bed now – just finished up homework for tonight – taking time out for eating and a quick glance online, it’s been a 19 hour day of schoolwork. But tomorrow is Friday, and I can breathe for two whole days!
Tomorrow night my daughter and I are going to the opening of a new exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design – Detroit (I don’t think it’s quite as grand as it sounds!). The theme is “The Past is Present” and my son has done one of the murals for the show. Proud mama here!

Mary – I think I heard a program about this exhibit a couple of weeks ago. It’s supposed to be quite something – it had me dreaming about flying to Detroit to check it out. Apparently, the Governor-appointed city manager might be trying to sell the collection, if I recall. In any case – Enjoy!

Is there even ONE person in the WHPC that reports rather than attacks the President. Now they are trying to tie McCain’s poker playing to the President – I am please they had to sit in a van for hours outside of the dinner in Russia – karma indeed.

I don’t think I even wish to know “how” they can tie McCain’s foolishness to President Obama. Amazing, isn’t it, 99ts?

        September 6, 2013 at 1:21 am

Well he caused 9/11 and gets the blame for Katrina – so the McCain poker is easy.

I am just a grump today – the thought of the next 3 years of right domination of our politics is twisting my brain. I think I shall do as older folks do and take an afternoon nap. That should revive my flagging spirits ๐Ÿ™‚ – and when I wake PBO will still be the President and Sarah Palin will still be the downfall of John McCain.

Well, actually, when you wrote “PBO will still be the President and Sarah Palin will still be the downfall of John McCain,” sounded more to me that you were fired up and ready to go! But I’m sorry you were feeling grumpy over the politics, which is downright awful for any of us to have to try to survive.

And, yes, the afternoon nap. Highly recommend it.

Good morning, TOD. I apologize for starting our day with this, but my heart really hurts and I am also angry and frustrated. I open FB and a ‘friend’ had just shared a story from Spokane, WA about a WWII veteran being killed in his car. Two black teenagers admitted doing it and the fingerprints of one of them was found on the car. She has this at the beginning of her post: Could this be Obama’s son? WHY??????? WHY do people do this? She “calls” herself a Christian. I am sitting here crying and literally aching all over. I will likely see her at Curves in about 30 minutes. What to do??????????

Again, I apologize for beginning our day with this, but there’s no one else to share it with.

tnmtngirl, How about if she bother you that much, cancel the meeting and come out and tell her exactly why. Tell her that you don’t have time for such B.S. Hope this work out for you this morning.

      • September 6, 2013 at 8:04 am

I did ‘hike’ her posts on FB. Can’t cancel seeing her at Curves (women’s exercise place). Yes, she was there, along with 5-6 other ladies. I began a conversation with one of them that led to all of us talking about various things. This is SO hard—so much pure hate toward one man all because of the color of his skin. It’s so foriegn to me…….hard time wrappying my brain around it.

          September 6, 2013 at 9:45 am

Probably not a discussion for Curves, but if you want to have a conversation….You could try to explain to her that what it means to you to be a Christian. Ask her what Christianity means to her. Then you could point our how it hurts your heart to hear hateful comments and ask her how that fits with Christ’s message of love thy neighbor. Just a thought.

Ask her if she thinks he looks like Adam Lanza, or James Holmes, or Dylan Klebold or Eric Harris. Then ask her if she remembers who they are?
That should shut her up real quick

I guess the Brazilian President will be keeping her visit to the State’s Dinner in October. I am so piss with these so call leaders like her, German leader, Japan, those ones who expect America to be there to help them if needed, but where are they when we need them? And I don’t want to hear a darn thing about Iraq, this isn’t Iraq. And I can’t tell you what I think of the media and Congress, right now. Chipsticks might spend all her time cleaning the language up.
