Bringing this over……..follows along with Ben Rhodes.

Just heard on the top of the hour newsbreak (on the radio) that “President Obama is changing his tune this morning”……..told reporters in Sweden HE didn’t set a “red line”, that the world set a “red line” with the treaty that was signed years ago. After playing that clip, the “news reader” reinterated the idea of PO having changed his mind/tune. Idiots! How many times do we say “You can’t fix stupid”!

My take: The military side of the Pentagon, per se, really doesn’t turn conflicts into cashcows – that’s what Republicans like Bush-Cheney and the for-profit-only industrial part of the MIC do. The in-house acquisition process includes all kinds of safeguards, by law, including fierce competitions and continual reforms. Of course, there must be “reasonable” profits made by the defense contractors or they wouldn’t do it, and the government can’t “afford” to do it by itself – our defense budget would be exponentially higher than it’s ever been. However, civilian Defense Department overlords like Rumsfeld definitely are what Eisenhower warned us of – which is why we must keep a Democrat in the White House for the next three decades!

GM , jacquelineoboomer; this is what I shared with my dearest friend at the beginning of President Obama’s first term. We need to keep the White House for the next 3 decades. I am so happy to hear that someone is thinking the same way. It is not that we are some left-insane greed filled grabbers, but truly this is so needed. I am keeping my thoughts in this space for this very hope. A Democrat for the next 4 decades!! HZ

Good Morning faithful MightyPamela. Thank you again for the candles. I have mine burning brightly as well. I just completed my morning prayers and meditations for our President, Cabinet, Staff, traveling personnel with him on this trip and all of Congress. I almost had a little church in that music room. (You know what I mean.) But someone moments on this journey, it will take some focused crying out in our prayer/meditation times. However, I do believe in my spirit that President Obama will be fine.

I was reading this morning during my time, and came away with something like this:

My day has already been graced by the Almighty with much favor; much love; much wisdom; much forgiveness; and much peace. So now I am going to walk in each avenue with bold faith to be the receiver of each with much gratitude and much confidence for this day. Amen.

We are going to be fine with our brilliant, honest, humble, and compassionate President of the United States. Believe, have faith, and keep your spirits high today. We are a great family here and we Will continue to have hope, work hard, and support the best POTUS Ever.

    From Bob Cesca:

[…..] the libertarian left’s primary goal is the disintegration of the two party system by pursuing a long-term effort to undermine the Democratic Party, even if it means the election of more Republicans and the enacting of conservative policies like voter ID, corporate deregulation and the further erosion of reproductive rights. On the Greenwald front, the mission is to destroy the Democratic Party. On the Drudge side, it’s the Republican Party. And the common denominator? Libertarianism.

Rather than influencing the debate, this emerging coalition is in the process of exiling itself from the two party paradigm and thus from being taken seriously as it summarily rejects anyone who acknowledges the necessity for compromise, for a rational fact-based debate and intellectual honesty. Good riddance. The sooner the fringe crackpots fully marginalize themselves from participating in the national discussion, the sooner the grown-ups will be able to effectively govern again — something that hasn’t really occurred in years due in part to cacophonous screeching about war crimes, drones and death panels.

While Greenwald, Assange, Drudge and the Pauls are busily shouting at invisible enemies about everything from the vast and pernicious NSA security state to conspiracy theories about the possible assassination of Snowden by the U.S. government, the rest of us will finally be able carry on with a serious, rational discussion about running the country.

[Brazilian lawmakers] asked Tuesday that an American journalist living in Rio de Janeiro who first broke news about the National Security Agency’s program receive protection from federal police.

Senators want journalist Glenn Greenwald and his domestic partner, David Miranda, protected because the future testimony of both is considered fundamental to the investigation.

I know Pres. Obama is finding “a way out of no way,” for all of us, at every turn, with his every decision. We are so lucky to have him in the White House, although his second term is going much too quickly for my tastes!

[I knew that arse would pop-up his ugly! This is dishonest on so many levels, it’s comedic!]:

[…..] Cornel West tore into many of this week’s speeches surrounding the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s “I Have a Dream” speech, accusing everyone from President Obama to Rev. Al Sharpton of “sanitizing” Dr. King’s vision.

“Brother Martin himself, I think, would’ve been turning over in his grave,” West said of the event. “[King would have wanted] people to talk about Wall Street criminality, he wants people to talk about war crimes, or drones dropping bombs on innocent people,” he asserted.

“Instead,” he lamented, “we saw the coronation of the bonafide house negro of the Barack Obama plantation, our dear brother Al Sharpton.” West went further declaring that Sharpton’s decline was “supported by [MSNBC analyst] Michael Dyson and others who’ve prostituted themselves in a very ugly and vicious way.”

West and Tavis Smiley both lamented that black leadership has become “so sold-out” so as not to have the courage to be a “bull in the china shop,” break rank, and talk about “racism, poverty, and militarism” at an otherwise “bought-out” event.

This is not the first time West has referred to Sharpton as being “on the Obama plantation.” The radio host made the same claim in July when he felt Sharpton did not advocate hard enough for a Department of Justice “civil rights” prosecution against the recently-acquitted George Zimmerman.

Somebody will always allow West and Smiley to speak up, against the President and others, until 2017 when they will be kicked to the curb. Sad that no one has told them how foolish they are appearing to most of us, when they could be working for the good of their fellow citizens, instead of just rehashing their old, tired, jealous talking points.

I’ve driven on this Rinehart Road in Lake Mary, when I lived there. It’s not a highway – lots of residential/commercial traffic, cars and school buses. He’s looking for trouble and attention. Another deadly event, this time by car, perhaps, waiting to happen.

    • September 4, 2013 at 2:33 pm

For a time I was in Florida a lot, mostly staying at the Marriott in Lake Mary.

I think I was on Rinehart Road, by the Wal-Mart? Seems like it was conducive for speeding, which most of the roads in Orlando and north seemed to be. Straight and wide, so no surprise he was speeding.

Seems like a non-story to me, especially with the upcoming Charlie Foxtrot during the pitiful 9 days Congress is session this month.

  32. September 4, 2013 at 12:48 pm

I see Vote Vets. org is asking people to sign a petition asking members of Congress to vote against military strikes in Syria. They are not supporting the president, saying it won’t do any good. But it will get us involved where we shouldn’t be. I don’t think they listened well to the rationale.

    • 81 ericfive

Are they also asking for donations? Using Syria to hustle a buck.

    • 82 57andfemale
      September 4, 2013 at 2:57 pm

How about they ask for facts first? Ask for a substantive debate, instead of rushing to judgment.

But there is no longer any semblance of balance or nuance anywhere in politics. Black or white, hot or cold, hyperbole or ‘meh’. It’s dizzying.

I have some questions, I really do. I’m still uneasy that this action will have any positive results. But I trust this President, I trust his national security team. It doesn’t make me a RW troll to have some doubts, and it doesn’t make me a mindless Obamabot because I believe PBO and his team have no inclination to lie us into a war. Because they do not want war – they want accountability.

Discussion has left the building. What a sorry state of affairs.

  33. 83 japa21
    September 4, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Excellent, excellent article from some one who is not yet convinced that intervening in Syria is the right thing to do but has an open mind. Key summary quote:

I’ve never understood why so many liberals feel the need to constantly impugn this president’s motives. Are Obama’s critics so certain of that they are right about Syria that Obama’s position can only be understood if it is seen as rooted in self interest or even vanity?

Democrats took offense when some Republicans suggested that Clinton was “wagging the dog” by ordering the bombing of Iraq in 1998 in the midst of the Monica Lewinsky scandal. But now Obama’s integrity is fair game on the Left? Bubba is allowed his regrets over his failure to stop the genocide in Rwanda, but Barack’s a war mongering bastard for wanting to try, however imperfectly, to avert a similar disaster in Syria?

    I call Bullshit.

Why the most liberal president in a generation is driving some progressives bonkers

    By Smartypants

Just as President Obama is taking huge steps to walk back the imperial presidency and making tremendous strides on issues like health care reform and LGBT rights and ending the war on drugs and fighting to curb climate change and ending the perpetual war and taking on the NRA and fighting for immigration reform and trying to curb the rising costs of college tuition and proposing things like a minimum wage increase along with universal day care, there is a group of progressives who have gone absolutely bonkers with their conspiracy theories about him. As Bob Cesca points out this morning, many of them are are so deranged that they’re staring to line up with tea party libertarians to destroy the Democratic Party.

Its no wonder that many of us are saying “WTH? Why now? You want to jump ship just when we’re starting to make some progress?”
The only thing I can make of it is that these folks never contemplated what it means to be on the inside of the political game as opposed to the outside. They got so used to being cynical about government that they don’t know what it means to actually govern. So even when we’ve got someone in a power position on the inside, the cynicism prevails and their only recourse politically is a freefall into libertarianism.

    • 87 ericfive
      September 4, 2013 at 2:29 pm

They are trying to destroy the democratic coalition that elected PBO twice. They want their country back, just like the Tea Partiers and for the same reason. Thankfully they will FAIL in their objective, just as they have FAILED in everything they have ever attempted. I doubt that any of these folks ever voted for PBO.

[ABL has a great, long run-through of the Greenwald/Guardian BS. Here’s a snippet]:

[…..] What the hell is going on at The Guardian? Why are they doing this? Why are they being allowed to do this with virtually no pushback from anyone but a handful of bloggers and journalists? Is this what it’s come to? The Guardian and Greenwald’s desire for page clicks and revenue trumps their journalistic integrity? Their commitment to relaying facts to the public has been swamped by a need to drop bombshells that, within hours, turn out to be mere turds dropping into a puddle?

And what is going on with the mainstream media which reports the cavalcade of bullshit flowing from The Guardian and Greenwald without once noting that they are lying about key facts?

Here’s the bottom line: This is a complicated story made all the more complicated by the fact that The Guardian and Glenn Greenwald have been intentionally misleading their readers for weeks about the facts, thus making it virtually impossible to have a real discussion about just what the fuck it is the NSA is doing and how we can reform or curb it. This is journalistic malfeasance, pure and simple.

But I’m just an Obot, so of course I would say that.

    Lots more here: http://thisweekinblackness.com/2013/08/23/the-guardian-glenn-greenwald-is-lying-david-miranda/

    • 100 Gazelle
      September 4, 2013 at 1:54 pm

      [Beulahmo’s comment to this article]:

I’d like to add that I have a very strong suspicion that Glenn Greenwald really doesn’t want us to engage in the What-Do-We-Do-About-the-NSA-and-Privacy debate because most people probably feel the way we do — that is, we acknowledge both the need for things like government secrecy and the NSA and that we have to figure out how to protect privacy and (responsible) political dissidence. What I think he really wants is to frustrate and impede our ability to coalesce around our shared position, so that he can morph us into his pre-fabricated “PRO NSA AUTHORITARIANS!” army of cartoon characters, thereby engaging confirmation biases of younger voters and siphoning them off to pursue his ridiculous third-party left-right-hybrid libertarian coalition.

I’ll tell you — watching the “professional left” not only tolerate but also respect a guy with such idiotic political ideas has convinced me that President Obama was a fucking genius to avoid relying on them as part of his base. Democrats needed to cultivate a “base” within the political center in order to pull power away from these morons.

Following the visit to KTH Obama are Reinfeldt have earned themselves a slap up dinner and they will be joined by the prime ministers of the other Nordic countries. Reinfeldt has been praised for extending the invitation to Sweden’s Nordic partners and here they are:

Denmark – Helle Thorning Schmidt – who has been her country’s Prime Minister since 2011 and leader of the Social Democrats since 2005. She happens to be married to Stephen Kinnock and is thus the daughter-in-law of the former leader of the UK’s Labour Party.

Norway – Jens Stoltenberg – is in his second stint as PM after having served from 2000-2001 and his been in office since 2005, representing the Labour Party. He is known as an enthusiastic supporter of Nato and advocate of development issues.

Finland – Sauli Väinämo Niinistö – has been the President of Finland since 2012 and represents the Coalition Party. He has a background in banking and finance and is a trained lawyer.

Iceland – Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson – has been chairman of the Progressive Party since 2009 and Prime Minister since 2013.

It is safe to say that fish will feature on the menu, perhaps laced down with a glass or two of chilling snaps.
