Yes, this distrust and cynicism are a horrible legacy of these people. And they will pay nothing for it. It’s all coming down on PBO and his people. It’s been simmering, and the Syria situation has brought it to the surface.

    • September 5, 2013 at 8:12 am

This truly is heartbreaking, df, and I felt for Rep. Vargas, who was really sorry he had to ask the question. Bush/Cheney destroyed so much of the fabric of this country it will take many Democratic presidential cycles AND a Democratic Congress to restore some semblance of unity and national purpose to our country. This is why it every day becomes more and more critical that we invest whatever sweat, toil, and money we have to getting a Democratic House and Senate in 2014. Our country is hurting and the radical partisanship and cynicism is killing us.

Hey df, I keep seeing this meme by certain “posters” (i.e.: trolls) that 80-90% of Americans don’t support this “war”. My response to them has been that the majority of Americans know nothing about foreign policy, they are war weary from the Dick Bush administration (yes, we ALL know who was in charge), but I trust my president to do the right thing, and he does NOT want war. I DON’T trust the majority of Americans who sit in their arm chairs pretending THEY are the president who has to make the decisions.

I am now only dvring Rev Al on MSNBC. I won’t watch any of those shows anymore. I can’t give up on Rev Al. He has been a staunch supporter thru it all. I am not even listening to any of the radio shows. Everyone but us has gone crazy over this Syria thing.

I’ve been kinda sick of hearing Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines which bites of this song heavily. Time to give Marvin back his due!

Can you believe Thicke is suing Marvin’s family to pre-empt them from suing HIM for stealing Marvin’s music? That is some major bullshiggity!

    Steve Benen

    Rumsfeld just keeps talking

If there’s anyone in America who should go enjoy a little quiet time right about now, it’s failed former Pentagon chief Donald Rumsfeld. Nevertheless, he just keeps talking,….

….Part of me continues to wonder why Rumsfeld is still allowed to speak in polite company. Lance Armstrong isn’t asked for his opinions about athletes and performance-enhancing drugs; Miley Cyrus isn’t sought out for analysis on public modesty; so why should anyone take seriously what Donald Rumsfeld has to say foreign policy and the use of military force abroad?

And yet ol’ Rummy just can’t seem to help himself — he’s talking about the incomplete justifications for military intervention; he casually attacks the president’s patriotism; and he routinely makes incoherent, self-defeating observations about national security.

Don’t go away mad, Rumsfeld. Just go away.

It’s like when Darth Cheney comes out of hiding to reprimand the President for being a failure — it’s just their way of projecting and deflecting.
Sadly the misinformed/uninformed listen to this tripe because they are the “experienced” ones (oh, and not the “blah guy” either).

Congratulations TOD! I found this wonderful blog and its positive, PBO-supporting community recently and you all have saved my heart, health and sanity with your funny, insightful, loving and spot on comments! Finally a place where I feel at home! I am a liberal – always have been – and this President is the first TRULY liberal president in my lifetime. He is so intelligent and compassionate and continually confirms my original and continued faith in him as a person and as our President. I am volunteering with my local OFA to help increase awareness of the ACA (just one of his many accomplishments for the people). Anyway, preaching, choir, you know πŸ™‚ Thanks to all of you for giving me a place to be.

It’s late at night, just wanted to share a thought that has come to me today about our President. I read today a very intriguing article which stated that Iran is wanting to find a way to settle on Syria and ultimately on the nuclear question. They, even the hard-liners, are appalled at the CW use by Assad, particularly since they were the victims of it during the long war with Iraq in the 80s. They also want a good reputation in the Muslim world and that has been ruined by their surrogate, Assad. They want to find a way to throw him overboard and negotiate a settlement in Syria. I have also read that there have been back-channel communications between the U.S. and Iran that may be the preliminary to such negotiations. For our President, deciding to refer military action to a vote, buys time and options, options that may result in a negotiated break through. Delaying military action may strengthen the hand of the new moderate President of Iran. I have no special insight or knowledge, just trying to connect a few dots, and see perhaps some hopeful logic to it. In due time we shall find out whether this thought has any substance or is just my own projection.

      September 5, 2013 at 5:02 am

Bill R., that is the most sensible projection that I have heard and agree with totally. I always get this feeling of peace and calm whenever PBO is thinking ahead of these clowns. I cannot describe it, but I just know that it is more than what it really is. This man’s gifts are too many to name. It is an inner peace that I trust whatever his plans are for us. I have to force myself to stay quiet when people get crazy because they are not connected to this spirit. It is more than logic to me. And then he carries on and continues to stay focus doing the job we voted him to do with such grace, humility, calmness as if he knows what the big picture will be.
      It is truly amazing.

Thank you for sharing that thought. It is not late as you think, it is right now.
      Good morning.

Okay. I know that somebody/anybody is still partying! In NY we are getting ready for the AFTER party…..where is everybody?
Congratulations, Ms. Chips for the 21 hits. UT, thank you for being there to keep the hits coming.
Alycee, Happy Birthday and many, many more!

Ms. Dudette, what can I say? You are passed the bomb……the first time I heard Robin Thicke’s so-called summer hit, I knew immediately that it was a bite off Marvi n Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up.” I do not like imitators especially when you try to hide the fact you imitated.
Thank you so much for pointing out that fact that he has the nerve to sue Marvin’s family. He is not all that especially on that song. Hell, he is not doing anything. Everyone else and the music is what makes everything happens on that song.
How can you not get a hit with MG’s beats or lyrics,if you got backup in the pocket like is evident on that. Marvin and others have the Funk Brothers to thank for their earlier schooling….we all know that. But to sue the family? Oh, hell no!

I just finished packing for Ga., spending a week with my family in Athens.
Ms. Dudette, can you suggest a good place to eat while there besides Golden Corral? I ate the most fresh fruit ever in Costa Rica(Paradise) a week ago. My system cannot take that type of overload so soon…….help!

Okay. I am going to listen to some Marvin Gaye until it is time to leave for the airport.
I will be lurking annd praying for our President’s safe trip home.
I am so glad he is away from all of these “shallow minds, no morals, no souls” folks.
    Thank you again, Ms. Chips.

    Good morning, ya’ll.

      Hi LDS!

Yes, that thing about Robin Thicke just burns me. The nerve, really!

Anyway, I cannot believe I’m saying this, but in all my years living in Georgia, I have never been to Athens. On oversight, I really must remedy soon, especially since people keep telling me it’s so much like my Chapel Hill, NC. (being a lovely college town and all ). Thanks for the reminder.

Anyway, I can’t personally recommend a place to eat there, but Urban Spoon might have some ratings that’ll help you choose: http://www.urbanspoon.com/lb/83/best-restaurants-Athens [This link should take you to the page where you can see restaurants in that area]. Good luck!

      Have a wonderful trip!
