Saturday August 24th FLOTUS, Malia, and Sasha went to see the Broadway’s play The Trip to Bountiful Saturday evening after spending the day watching tennis. Seem to be a nice day in New York for the Obama ladies.
Anniebella, one of my campaign team members was sitting right behind them!!! Well, the first row right behind the secret service! But still, WHAT A THRILL!!! I’m going to get tickets. I love good Broadway shows. And, from an interview that I saw, Cecily Tyson has long wanted to perform in this play. My friend gave very good reviews.
I’m sure you’ve experienced this- you’re on the train (or any public place) and remember a silly joke from donkey yrs ago. You try not to laugh/smile, but it’s happening. You look up and sure enough there’s someone looking at you.

All I really remember about “new states” is when Alaska became our 49th! I was 12 years old and had to MEMORIZE (the nuns had wild and crazy ideas back then) what in my mind seemed like pages and pages of a double-spaced speech on Alaska, which had been granted statehood, and deliver the darn thing in front of the parent-teachers association one fine afternoon. My mother was in the audience, scared I’d forget it. I was scared to death I’d forget it. Coulda used a teleprompter – Ha!
What deep thinkers men are… I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so I sat down and had a cold beer. The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking.
My wife walked by and asked me what I was doing and I said ‘nothing’. The reason I said that instead of saying ‘just thinking’ is because she would have said ‘about what’. At that point I would have to explain that men are deep thinkers about various topics which would lead to other questions.
Finally I thought about an age old question: Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts? Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts.
Well, after another beer, and some heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with the answer to that question. Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby; and here is the reason for my conclusion. A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, “It might be nice to have another child.” On the other hand, you never hear a guy say, “You know, I think I would like another kick in the nuts.” I rest my case.
It’s because the pain of childbirth–excruciating as it is–yields a beautiful baby. A year later, a mother’s thoughts go to what will be best for said baby–a brother or sister to talk to and play with. The mother is willing to voluntarily submit to the pain for the sake of the child. If your kick in the nuts resulted in a baby you could love, maybe you’d try it again.
You might be willing to risk a kick in the nuts if it was the only way to produce life. Big difference. Maybe look at your or someone’s children whom you love and ask ourself if you could endure a kick for them.

Unbelievable and sad for me listening to Chgo news tonight——that Chgo Public Schools have had to hire 600 people to provide “safe passage” to kids walking to school starting tomorrow, some having to walk a few blocks further to new schools because of school closings there. The 600 will be assisted by police and fire personnel. But what a sad state of affairs——that this massive effort is needed to get kids to school safely, without being shot or harmed in some way.
Rahm is not the problem—-in this case any way. It’s that a massive effort is needed just to get kids to and from school safely. What kind of world is this——when kids have to transverse a “war zone” to get to school, when they need a wall of protection just to get to school???
