A marcher holds a U.S. flag bearing the image of President Barack Obama during the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom at the Lincoln Memorial
YW, mtmarilyn, it IS important to add the Light, each and everyday. We carry it in our Hearts, and when active, it travels to other Hearts, well, at the speed of Light! 🙂 Beautiful day!
Just like we turned Obamacare from the curse-word the RWers wanted to make it, let us change Stand Your Ground to a positive. Stand Your Ground for Freedom and Justice!!! Thank you Ms. Evers-Williams!!
Loved how Ms. Evers-Williams urged not only the inclusion of the names and voices of women civil rights activists in the commemoration of the March and all of the accounts of the efforts last century, but also suggested to the older leaders to move aside a little and help the young people of today to find their voice!
She also quoted Sojourner Truth’s extemporaneous “Ain’t I a Woman?” speech … there are some accounts that those four words were not spoken at the time of its delivery, but added later. In any event, I’m glad whether or not they were original or added … I’m glad those words were again brought up, today, because they are needed as a reminder as the War on Women rears its ugly head again, not that it ever fully left our country and the world.
Here’s a link to a couple of versions of “Ain’t I a Woman?” – and why we all still weep for not only the lack of human kindness and respect toward our brothers but also toward our sisters!
Yardard756, (((((((((((((((((((((((( Thank you for all you did, do, and will always do.))))))))))))))))))))))))) I am crying like a sweet little baby. Knowing that 50 years ago, we saw Rev. Dr. Martin L. King Jr., and now we have in the beautiful Great Photo of our March, President Barack H. Obama. This is such a beautiful tapestry of Great History Through Our Marching Feet all these 50 years. Marching On with President Obama for our future young men and women.HZ
Will have to look at this more closely later, MP. Actually I’m not good at online purchases, so I’m going to keep my eyes open this weekend when I go out. It’d be nice to buy one while I’m here.
Cory Booker magnificant today. Props for naming Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner.
The kerfuffle during 2013 when Cory seemed to stand up for Wall Street, well as far as I’m concerned, that is history.
Senator Booker will seve our country well and I will be cheering him on. TOD, do we agree on this?

Rep Lewis spoke about himself as well. But I think that their personal experiences as related are important in the context of this event. As you said, these men are not just talking about themselves – they have walked the walk, and are going to continue walking the walk.
I saw Mayor Nutter and Dr. Henry Gates Jr., in the crowd. I can’t wait for Wed. These young and old, from every walk of life and organization are networking there, believe me. I know two beautiful hard working people who are there working with the networking to get involved with the voting registrations all over this nation. HZ

I think MLK III really rose to the occasion – best speech I’ve personally ever heard him give. His parents were and still would be proud of him.

Oh my that was quite the speech. Now we all need to bring it home. It is up to all of us to do this.
Love that Rev Al just gave Rev Jackson some props!
Rev Al you are talking too much about yourself! 😦
I disagree. I thought his speech was the opposite actually – expansive, phenomenal and inspiring.
So be it. I view things from a different point of view. Peace!
His self-promotion is kinda transparent, eh? At least everybody expects it, and he walks the walk so ya gotta love him.
Rep Lewis spoke about himself as well. But I think that their personal experiences as related are important in the context of this event. As you said, these men are not just talking about themselves – they have walked the walk, and are going to continue walking the walk.
I was hoping to see Colin Powell … Maybe Wednesday ?
