Isn’t the President speaking today? What time??? Carter? Clinton?
Not today Carol, Wednesday.
I’m gonna be there. I hope. Don’t know any details. We’re just getting in the car and driving up there. 😀
Brilliant!!!! Thrilled for ya Dudette!
Thanks! Cousin & I just decided this was our time to see POTUS in person. We missed both Inaugs. Refuse to miss this too!
[Oh lord, that sounds like famous last words!]
go for it Dudette! Take pics and tell us how it goes! 🙂
Will do, alice! So Excited!!!!

Awesome! Thanks Alycee!!!
We should get there sometime Tuesday night.
We here will pray you along, D – it won’t be just you two traveling. Plus, I remember your last trip to the DNC (?) was a practice run to Wednesday. You’ll get there!
Thank you so much VC! {{{{ vcprezofan2 }}}}

Stupid computer – that’s the wrong link. 😦
I was 12 when the first March took place. Ringing the bells in Seattle: we have a small souvenir Liberty bell replica we bought in Philly 24 years to, seems like a good one to be ringing today! And my Tibetan temple bells, of course!! Will be on the virtual march!! Hugs all around y’all! {{{{TOD}}}}
I was 16, so you’ll always be “a baby” when I’m around! Mornin’, MightyPamela!
Morning JO’B, I will always defer to your wisdom and maturity!! (didja hear that Chipsticks, what have I just said??!!) 😆
Poor kid, to be deferrin’ to me. Ah, youth is so wasted on the young.
Ha! 🙂
MightyPamela – I just looked up AG Holder’s DOB – he was 12 when the first March took place, too. Look at the good company you’re in, today (and every day)!
1950 was a Tiger Going Down The Mountain year, some pretty determined types took incarnation in that year, having already been to the Top of that ol’ Mountain! Thankfully.
Yes. (I was thinking you meant 1951, apparently also a good year for determined types to be born!)
Thank you so much for this wonderful roundup and these links. Today and Wednesday are special days and I knew I could rely on this space for excellent pictures and coverage.
Yeh! SMH, SMH!!
Wow…..This picture looks like it was just taken……the Cigarette in between the fingers of HB, gave it away. HB will be at the March today….Bless his heart. SP is not as active, but he is still doing what he can. Bless his heart too.
Chipsticks, is it bad for me to say I need the naughty mat after seeing this picture??
Chips, you’ve gotta put that Poitier/Belafonte tweet up top, cuz …. WOW!!!
Will do Dudette! My God, two outrageously handsome men!
Wooooweee!! Hallelujah!!! 😎
Hubba Hubba!
Looooove him and the fight against voter suppression he’s been leading in North Carolina.
Update on FLOTUS.
Oh that’s right! I think Serena was on Letterman last night too. Let me see if I can find video…
MHP has Jesse Jackson coming up.
Hot, hot hot men. Denzel Washington and Barack Obama are two more very handsome men.
Yes! Yeessss, yes, yes!!!
And a great big ol’ Yes from me too, my little D.J!
😀
Seriously, they don’t make men gorgeous like they did then – Sidney, Harry, Paul……. this old heart can’t stand it.
I know 57, mine is beating rather fast right now too!
You have an old heart? Hmmmmmmmmm.
We are just so spoiled, 57!
THIS.
Wooooo, Mmmm. Had a poster of him on my bedroom wall, and Steve McQueen, another yummy hunk of mmmmmm…
It was Steve McQueen on that motorcycle… My oh my… Our ‘childhood’ memories!!! 😉 😉
Oh yes!!! Had a crush on both of them before I was even 10 yrs old. 🙂
Wow….James Garner was there too. Charles Hasten(sp) before he went to the other side was there too. Marlon Brando was there too.
I’m enjoying watching the early part of the March commemoration on C-Span. Not sure why some of these headliners are only getting a few minutes to speak, but I liked how Jesse Jackson called the election of President Obama “our crowning jewel.” And I liked how Tony Bennett sang the song that includes “they didn’t think we’d all come together” and “who’s got the last laugh now?” So many people in this country have come together, and those who haven’t are headed for the scrap pile with their vile “friends.” I don’t mean to put a damper on any of the proceedings, but had to get that out of my system!
As we all continue to watch and learn from and be inspired by Dr. King’s genius speech of Aug. 28, 1963, we should keep in mind that when he delivered it, he was only 34 years old. You don’t have to be old and seasoned to be an unceasing leader in world history.
A blessed and inspiring March on Washington Day to Chips and the TOD family. Thank you so much for providing those of us who live beyond the shores of the USA the opportunity to share this day with you all.
It was the actions of the civil rights pioneers in the USA that emboldened Caribbean leaders during the same period to agitate for basic human rights, including the right to vote, for Caribbean people. The gains accrued by MLK and those who marched with him were the beacon that guided our civil rights heroes, including those from my island.
So we are marching in spirit with you today, and praying that the gains from this 50th anniversary activities will be comprehensive and eternal. May God bless and empower every participant, including this amazing blog.
Thank you Prayer Warrior!
Good Morning ya’ll. I see by the comments above that a few of you lot are experiencing your own er,ah ‘private summer’. Be advised that the naughty mat locker is now open along with a supply of fans! 😀
Good Morning Sailor!
Aye Dakota. That it is. 🙂
Bring it! I don’t mind at all! 😀
A fan won’t help you or Chips. You two need a wind tunnel! 😆
😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆 😆
LOL!!!! You sho nuff got that right! 😀 😀 😀
😆 Morning Shipmate!!
Ahoy Admiral. You know Admiral, I can’t help but wonder if 50 years would be going ‘back’ be far enough for the rwnj’s? Just wonderin’ how far, that’s all.
Those people belong in the Stone Age, Shipmate
They’re still with us wear suits and ties and Prada!
Wonder no more, I’m convinced they want to go back at least 100 yrs.
Ain’t gonna happen sweetie. Young people and those of us that still have breath in our bodies will not allow that.
Oh this I know. I was just talking about what it seems they “want” to do.
I’m with you — AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN! We’re not going back. We’re moving #FORWARD!!
You know, I get so infuriated that my 43 year old daughter all of a sudden has to be concerned about having her reproductive rights interfered with. She can barely wrap her head around this crap and neither can I.
WWI, Depression? Which one?
Thanks agaon for posting the videos about Lift Every Voice & Sing that yesterday.
Still have it song replaying in my head today. Perfect day for it!
DMI 9t9. 😀
Just wonderin’ why the locker would ever be closed, nevermind locked, after all, we do have rights, don’t we, eh?? 😉 Seems most folks here know when to apply themselves to a mat! 😉
Unfortunately some don’t. As for rights, you have the right to ask for one but not to control them. Admiral Chips has given me that assignment.Thank you very much! 😀
I see.. I will have a think on that.. You’re welcome!
😆 😆 😆
Not to be a downer, but saw this came across my Twitter timeline:
Do not be surprised be these type headlines. The threat of violence has ALWAYS followed the subjugation of our people. After all, That is an industry in itself. 😦
Great photo!!!

This photo just takes my breath away.
Dr. Jealous speaking!
Yay!
YES WE CAN!!!!
Ben Jealous is yelling “Fired Up! Ready to Go!” and “Yes We Can!”
The inspiration of not only Dr. King but also President Obama will be woven through the entire fabric of this 50th commemoration. Now that’s one big thing to smile about!
GEEZE. Chomsky has lost his mind.
The Emoprogs have lost their mind. ODS is not limited to FOX News or the GOP.
Good going Chomps, now you will be remembered as a laughing stock.
Good West Coast morning Chipsticks & TOD family. Chipsticks you have done a marvelous job on these two Rise & March and the comments are so moving as well as informative. Thanks!
This is truly a day of pride, filled with excitement. I’m looking forward to following along.
Morning, GGail! Hope you had a good night’s sleep.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE!
Fired Up!! http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=PBO
Yay MP!!!
AG Holder speaking now.
Yay, AG Holder!!!!
Eric Holder!!!!
Another set of words to place in our beautiful space for thought: HZ
“The mind does not take its complexion from the skin.”
Frederick Douglas,1817-1895
Abolitionist and Autobiographer
Speak on it AG Holder!
So glad I got home in time to hear AG Holder. woo hoo!
Good morning TOD family. It is a beautiful day. I am listening to all the speakers. It is so powerful. I am so thankful we are able to hear them all and read all here. We are blessed with our community here at TOD. I thank each one of you for all you do. I have a busy day here but the TV is on and the computer is set at TOD.
Did Nancy Pelosi already speak?
She’s on now.
thank you yardarm – I’m glad I didn’t miss her 🙂 🙂
I must say that this all brings back some poignant memories. I was in a place where I expected to not be concerned by the events of the day. I was under the microscope of the US Navy. During this time I was at GLakes about to be the first AA to teach in the ElectronicsTechnician School. The changes were almost instantaneous. All the minority personnel begin to get access to things that had been previously denied. Yes, separate but equal was alive and well up to this point.
God Bless you Yard.
Thank you.
Corey Booker… next Senator of NJ 🙂
He is speaking the truth! Love what his father said to him!
me too, he was inspiring!
I am always late. Don’t know if this has posted here already. But I think it is worth a read.
I love our brilliant Attorney General. Dr. Sharon Malone Holder looks great on this beautiful day. Love that dress and those shoes. Beautiful and historic couple. Mrs. Holder’s sister played an important in the Civil Rights Movement as well.
Keeping our space filled with thoughts for our candles, music, electricity that is there and all across this nation today.
” We must now refocus the views of the public on the issue of justice rather than the issues off aimless harmony.”
Rev. Al Sharpton 1955-
Hi, HZ – Love that “aimless harmony” description from Rev. Al. So very true. Enjoy your day!
Going to miss all the speeches now…off to tutor. I hope that we can see some of the speeches here later…( hint, hint:)
Regardless…my heart is full and happy today. Today will be the day that America wakes
See ya later, df. Yes, I thought maybe today would have a sad cloud over it, but – instead – I realize it’s a very full and happy day and week ahead of us.
These may have been posted already, but we at TOD don’t mind duplicates, right?
Well worth repeating! TY Arapaho!
Cannot wait to hear Dr. Joseph Lowery, today. On Rev. Al’s show last night, it was stated he’ll be 92 in October! I’ve always enjoyed hearing him, mostly because of the way he tells truth to power, not just brilliantly but with his rapier use of the language while still making one smile.
Think I heard him say he was not able to give the speech he had prepared to deliver at the March in ’63 because only one representative of each organization – in his case, the SCLC – was allowed to speak. And, of course, the “other” representative of the SCLC was Dr. King. How’d ya like to have to give up your speaking time to such a voice!
Dr. Lowery also mentioned a speech he gave in the ’80s, called, “Everything has changed and nothing has changed,” which he said is still surprisingly relevant. I believe his remarks today will be those he had drafted for ’63, perhaps with an update. Can’t wait.
Oh, and, on a side note, please somebody tell Cory Booker that he does not necessarily have to SHOUT when he’s making his point in front of a mic. Maybe a little more modulated tone, Mayor? (I realize he doesn’t need me to tell him to get some communications training, since he apparently is doing fine without me, but just sayin’.)
Oh my……Cory Booker! Could his speech please be posted later. I need to listen to it again…..and again…..
🙂
Amen Sis. Wasn’t that powerful?
Nancy Smash is at the podium!!!!!
oh yea Nancy Smash (as she’s been called here) glad I didn’t miss her either!
