TOD’ers for all of you that cannot make the trip to DC next Wednesday you all should try and organize a virtual bell ringing on the 28th.

I remember doing the virtual bell ringing when I worked for the Navy in the early ’90s (truthfully, I can’t remember why, though!). Thanks for this info!

I think it would be a nice gesture and people would have a since of participation. Chips or UT could post a thread dedicated to “Let Freedom Ring” at 3:00 on Wednesday and people could post links to pictures of bells ringing, you tube videos of bells ringing or just pictures of bells to show solidarity in this call to action by Ms. King. – Just a thought

I’m so over this two scumbags…….as conspiracy theories go….forget it. Not gonna waste the few brain cells left wrapping my head around this B.S.

But Glenn Greenwald is highly skeptical that the information obtained by the Independent came from Snowden; he thinks the U.K. is doxing its own surveillance secrets now. Snowden himself said he has had no contact with the Independent, and thinks this is an effort to damage his credibility:

It appears that the UK government is now seeking to create an appearance that the Guardian and Washington Post’s disclosures are harmful, and they are doing so by intentionally leaking harmful information to The Independent and attributing it to others. The UK government should explain the reasoning behind this decision to disclose information that, were it released by a private citizen, they would argue is a criminal act.

Love that song! Fond memories of singing it in elementary school in Richmond (2nd & 3rd grade)!
We sang it at the beginning of the school day. Yep, had to sing ALL 3 stanzas!!!

Thank you so much Yardarm for sharing this song that captures the history, struggle, and true essence of African Americans in this country. I love this song so much that I taught it to my daughters when they were quite young. My youngest daughter, when she was just four years, could sing the first stanza without missing any thing. Whenever I am down, I turn to “Lift Every Voice and Sing…” to remind me how far we’ve come and why we must never lose hope.

Yardarm, thanks so much for posting the great song. I also have so many beautiful memories of learning this song from my piano teacher and my voice teacher. I found it to be one of my first most difficult pieces to play on piano as a young lady. Then I had to play it on piano at our Senior Day in high school. Very high range on both instruments, voice and piano. But oh so lovely.

Dudette, I go with you on Wintley Phipps. I sing with him every morning during my devotion/meditation time. He has a beautiful CD of some beautiful hymns that have beautiful and moving arrangements. Love me some Wintley.

Thanks again for sharing this, Yardarm. I hope a choir will sing this on Wed. What a beautiful tribute that would be to have a Mass Choir to sing this while President Barack H. Obama ends his speech and have his last few words fade in as the choir sing. What a beautiful sound both speaking voice and singing voices that would be. Bring down the house.

So moving. Thanks so much, Yardarm. As Nath said, brings back so many memories during our childhood, young teens, college days and now as adults. Great historic song, indeed. Love being here tonight. HZ

Meta and Ladyhawke, I did also. Somehow, he hit a very tender string within my soul today. It was really moving. I just saw so much in his speech that he wanted to just, ” Please help me to get all of the wonderful things for all of you done.” I was most gracious when he did have the opportunity to respond with, “I love you back.” He needed to hear those, “I love you, Mr. President.” We love you.” Just very moving after all he has to go through.

But one thing I do know for sure., he will be fine. He will be fine. I loved seeing VPBiden introducing him and seeing them embrace each other. They surely have a love and respect for each other. We are so blessed to have both of them leading our nation.HZ

Come 2016, Joe Biden, if he choses to run, will be my #1 choice! I respect his smarts, his experience, and his integrity. But even more importantly, I love his zest for life, his passion for protecting the underdog, and the fact that he is so down to earth. By the way should he chose not to run in 2016, I will probably still write-in his name during the Democratic primary to register my respect and express my gratitude about the way he has been such a strong partner for President Obama. Obviously, during the general election, I will proudly vote for the Democratic nominee.

Who had to scream what while President Obama was speaking? People are irritating me lately—— like Sam Stein, who just said President Obama did “fairly well” with this presentation. Can’t wait for President Stein’s speeches—–they’ll probably be just thrilling—- so much better than Obama’s. Ha. Anyhoo, I can’t imagine yelling out while President Obama is speaking—–people should be relishing every last minute of this presidency—-pay attention! And all the purposeful Repub impeachment talk——stirring up the base, knowing it will be repeated by the news outlets, and they’re obliging, making impeachment talk mainstream. It makes me sick to my stomach—–it’s beyond repugnant and revolting, stirring up hate against the POTUS for absolutely no reason—–it’s a crime.

O.K. I have just run out of patience with all the ugliness—-it just keeps getting worse. Every August the Repubs go bonkers, hate peddling against this president who is so far above them in every measurable way. What in the world has he done to deserve this unprecedented disrespect and shabby treatment, other than beat them twice? Maybe some locally brewed sangria which is chilling in the refridg will help a wee bit.

Dotster3, we have some others all mixed for you, if you need some more. I get the feeling sometimes, doster3 that I just scream and cry out until I have to go and put drops in my eyes. Then I put on the music, dance a little, and decorate the place settings on my table. Just to get the ugly feeling from stopping in for a stay.

We will just have to give Lots of Big Family (((((((((((((()))))))))))))))))) to each and enjoy this last term. We can’t allow “them” to steal our joy. Not now. Okay. Are you going to be okay, dotster? I have music on and sipping a glass of red for the heart. Did not sleep well last night. But it is going to be fine. Okay. (((((((((( To our doster3)))))))))))HZ

Better pull myself together mop up the smeared mascara.
Maybe this is what we will see when the 2014 races begin. POTUS and VPOTUS on the stump. Noone can equal this duo. Senate and House and more Dem governors in 2014.

We drive thru there all the time on way to visit fam in Ct.—–is Willkes-Barre pronounced Willkes-Bar or Willkes-Barry, or something else? We always just slur over it because we’re not sure–and laugh about our cluelessness—-settle this big mystery please—-someone?

      • 159 Layla
        August 23, 2013 at 6:25 pm

The proper way of Wilkes-Barre was to pronounce it as Wilkes-Barre` because Issac Barre` was a frenchman to whom Wilkes-Barre takes part of its name, until the depression the city was spelled as Wilkes-Barre` but for some reason the dialect of the immigrants broke it down, howver from 1806-1930 this was how it was to be pronounced so for those who pronounce it as Wilkes-BarrA your right, its not Wilkes-Barree, or Wilkes-Bar its how our founders named it, This was taken from the Luzerne County Historical Society.
