Reposting comment on last thread: NYC Mayoral debate tonight and I will post a wrap-up of general comments from pundits after it is over. If you are interested in Bill deBlasio becoming mayor as I am check TOD by 9:30 for at least some idea of how the evening went.

C-SPAN is airing it so everyone can watch.

Thanks for the heads-up UT. I will watch it on CSPAN.

Vicki, I don’t mean to be ungrateful – thanks for offering to keep us updated. However, I tend to prefer to see the actual debates and not get the pundit spin (which is almost always all spin and little to no reality). Pundit spin for the 2012 presidential debates (not just the 1st one) would have us believe that Romney was going to win the election in 2012. In this particular case, I think the MSM will be even more inclined to spin for Quinn and against De Blasio ( for obvious reasons).

“The boring white guy” quip reminds me of something Malia would say. Remember her “People magazine is for important people” quip at ripe age of 10. Cool kids and they’re a little older so they won’t have to do too much growing up in the spotlight.

Maureen Dowd is the scum of the earth. She purposely misquoted Bill DeBlasio’s wife to stir up trouble. She’s done it before and claimed it was a mistake. This is journalistic malfeasance.

Dowd has serious issues with the truth and has lost any ability she might once have had to be objective about anything. She dislikes the president intensely and she ‘s obviously taken a dislike to deBlasio’s family. I won’t make conjectures about what the president and Mrs. deBlasio have in common, but it seems obvious that Dowd’s problems are deep-rooted.

I liked what a caller on Stephanie Miller said this morning, “if everyone was armed in the school, this would have been a blood bath, but instead it took a quick thinking employee in the school to talk this young man down…no dead children and this guy can get the help he needs”. I am sick and tired of hearing the NRA tools saying No Gun Zones opens up schools to be targets because they KNOW there will be no guns. Will, there are NO guns in any workplace other than a gun store or if the owner brings one to work like a liquor store or an independent jewelry store. You won’t find employees with guns in Zales or Department stores.

I was so impressed with her- Ms. Tuffs- to be so empathetic and compassionate with this young man during such a scary scenario.. he came in as an ‘enemy’ and she was brilliant merely by being humane. A lot of folks, including that young man, owe their lives to her, imo. Thank goodness she was the person he ran into yesterday. And yes thankfully it wasn’t an ‘armed school’.

Good Morning/Afternoon to Chips and my TOD family. I could not say good morning with you on our Rise and Shine because it was in my spam, so no R&S, however, I still found time to rise, shine and give honor to the day. I also used the time to spend in more quiet/loud prayer and meditation for all of my families: my personal family, our president, our vice–president; the administration; our military serving us all over the world, and our Congress.

I enjoyed the early morning time always in quiet meditation and prayers. I am so grateful to be living during this time in our history as well. I am so grateful for what Chips has provided for all of us to support President Barack Obama during his election and during his governing. This is a precious time in our history.

I want to continue to give my loving shout outs to Amk, Vc., Layla, Fred, Africa, and all of our TOD family members who are trying to move through their journeys with grace as they deal with each situation in their space. We will make it together, because we are a strong family filled with so much love. So be encourage in all that you do, TOD family.

It is hot here, but thankfully I can have the air on. I am keeping VP Biden , Dr. Jill Biden, Beau Biden, Hunter Biden, and Beau’s beautiful wife and children in my thoughts and prayers. We know when we lift up VPBiden and his family, it will give our beautiful and loving VP some healing peace and grace to carry on. So no matter what our personal faiths are, we all are one loving group of beautiful human beings who believe in total commitment to each other, respect for the beauty and enjoyment of a decent life, and pure love to all. We with pull through this with our VP, and our President. We also know how lovely POB and VP Bden love each other and are so close within their families. Thanks so much Chips for posting this beautiful reminder of that wonderful moment when the two came together to become running mates. A beautiful day indeed. Now we stand with both families to help Beau Biden get to a beautiful healing space.

I ask you all to keep me in your thoughts and prayers please. I am trying to work on my refinance , so keep me in your prayers Please. So far so good. I am not worried, but I do stress with paper work because I like to keep on top of things. But, you know something; I have come this far, and I am not giving up or turning back. FORWARD in this as well.

Be kind to your space; gentle with your words; firm in your beliefs; and passionate about your love to your family, spouse, partners; and loved ones. This is a gift to share such important and wonderful aspects of our daily lives. But do not forget those who are still struggling so hard just to make ends meet now. We must fight for them as well. That is our better angels showing up and showing out. I have a tee shirt that was given to me many years ago that had these words on it “When God Made Me, He/She Was Just Showing Out.” I love that shirt to this day.() Beau &VP Biden and family. () My beautiful Chips and family.() Our amazing and brilliant President and First Family.() POB’s Administration. () ()() () to all of our military men and women and their beautiful families. Blessings and much love. HZ

Thinking of and praying for the Biden family today. Also, remembering that joyful day when the four wonderful ones appeared together for the first time. I was smiling for at least 24 hours!
Some encouraging word, I hope about Beau Biden. A colleague of mine was diagnosed with a mass on the brain about four years ago. It was large. The doctors operated, it was benign. He is fine, and living a full, healthy life four years later. He has suffered no mental impairment whatsoever. I am praying and hoping this will be the case with Beau Biden.
Why am I not surprised that our Joe went to Houston with his son and will stay there, and is cancelling fundraisers???? That is who he is!

It really all depends on where it is and what kind of tumor.

My brother had a 6″ square AVM on his left parietal lobe. Long period of very difficult treatment but he is OK today. So there’s always a place for HOPE.

Joe is so close to his children. This must be especially painful for him. I hope Dr. Jill is by his side.

I’m trying to follow the logic: Cars whiz by on the expressway. A cop sees all the cars whizzing by. He ‘subsets’ the cars doing 80 in a 55 zone for scrutiny, and then ignores the other cars he witnessed.

So, because he saw the cars, he has amassed that information. It doesn’t mean he is investigating every car he saw, does it?

These same emoprogs are right now ordering from Amazon, paying no attention to the fact that Amazon’s home page is reflecting what they bought. They also are calling the electric company to complain about their bill. The company will ‘know’ how much electricity they used yesterday, last month, and for the last five years in order to determine the fairness of the charges. Oh, the horrors!

It doesn’t mean the electricity police are going to come get them. God.

We’re on the grid. the grid exists. We use the grid every day.

Did anyone watch more than the 10 minutes of Al-Jazeera America that I watched yesterday? In all fairness, I clicked on Ali Velishi and his sneering report on ACA. I found it less than ‘balanced’ or enlightening. But I admit, after a long day at work I didn’t need to come home and hear that ACA should be thrown out (as he kept parading across the screen, showing how big the bill was) because we don’t have enough doctors in Mississippi. They showed a doctor who said she didn’t want to share her salary with a second doctor. And a resident of MS who was a musician, puffing away on a cigarette, unaware that subsidies were available.

I am unsure how ACA is the reason Mississippi has dismal health care. I thought these Confederate states didn’t need no stinkin’ Federal help.

I know this jackass comes from CNN. I know I couldn’t stomach any more of him and turned it off. I don’t expect love letters to PBO, but if you’re going to do a segment on ACA, how about mentioning that the reason this resident doesn’t know about ACA is because of his own damned state and Republicans who won’t fund any efforts to inform the public?

Anyone see any other coverage from the network?

    • 65 Layla
      August 21, 2013 at 4:48 pm

      • 66 57andfemale
        August 21, 2013 at 4:57 pm

        Well, that was my feeling.

I’m Jewish. I am vehemently opposed to most of Israel’s actions. But I have knee-jerk responses to anti-Semitic rhetoric. I want to be informed. I want to be more ‘global’ in my perspective, and American news has gone to hell. But there are certain things that I will not be able to take.

Still keeping an open mind. Don’t know if they also did a half hour segment on the problems facing implementation of ACA due to Republican obstruction. But if the station is like those 15 minutes, I won’t be a regular watcher.

    • 67 elo4obama/biden
      August 21, 2013 at 5:14 pm

57 and female I watched even less than 10 min of the same segment ending with the smoker musician. I was too tired to do heavy at that moment. I did hear in that same segment hope that more doctors would be attracted to Miss. and the like because of the ACA. I took it to mean that the lone overworked doctor who could not afford to hire another would have more patients than she could possibly handle. The “smoker” was clueless but he genuinely seemed excited at the prospect of health care.
Well I had hope that all the rest of this piece I’d not seen was enlightening, now I’m not sure. Maybe I’ll look online.

      • 68 57andfemale
        August 21, 2013 at 5:34 pm

I watched the entire segment. Not once was there mention of community clinics within ACA and the push for rural doctors in the bill. I found the statement by the woman doctor ambivalent and Velishi’s lead in and comments after sounded like tea party rhetoric – if we don’t have enough doctors then why are we giving them insurance?. Yes, the point of the piece was that ACA will give insurance to more people, but there won’t be enough health care to serve them. I would have been more generous if Ali Velishi hadn’t said at least four times that the bill is soooo long and his disdain for ACA was clear.

A balanced report would have mentioned the provisions in the bill that are trying to address the health care shortage. a balanced report would have mentioned that ACA may be a bright light in job creation, as a market for affordable health care emerges. And it would have mentioned that perhaps the reason that people don’t know about the bill is because Republicans in Congress are making it impossible for HHS to get the word out.

There was no context that MS problems with health care are of their own making. And no mention that MS has refused Medicaid expansion.

It felt like a typical CBS or ABC report with barely a nod at context. But as I said, that’s all I watched and I really am keeping an open mind about their reporting.

I know that feeling. I record Rev. Al’s show and always try to mute it before the “:01” part, since the leftovers of Chris are still there to announce him.

This is when family members should have a little chat with him, to remind him “pathetic” is not a good look.

Boy, he sure showed how classless he is. Good God, why does he need TWO HOURS a day anyway?

He’s embarrassed himself. He’s had a ridiculously long run, considering he was allowed to say whatever incoherent blather jumps into his brain.

From the desperate look in his eye, maybe he knows he’s gonna lose that other hour, soon. Perhaps he was told it depended on his future ratings, and that’s why he was whimpering that his supporters should all watch him next week and beyond. Can’t see the writing on the wall, for his own feelings of self-importance.

Most of the media always talks about Hillary, but it’s not exactly positive.
Sort if like how they’re obsessed with this President, but slam him.
        Meanwhile, Rome is burning!

Ha. Cruz asks at a town hall: “Can we mobilize grassroots America?” Yeah, Cruz, that’s why President Obama got elected and re-elected in ’08 and ’12! That’s what grassroots America looks like. You look like a POS – oh, and, Senator McCarthy. Not a good look for anybody, eh?

As Chips told us CSPAN is showing NYC Mayoral debate starting at 6. Actual debate starts at 7 and goes until 8:30.

CSPAN seems like an oligarchic corporate RW network to me so I am watching Joy and Karen with the Rev now.

Can’t imagine that CSPAN would be fair to the un-Bloomberg un-corporate sane and good Bill deBlasio.

Dr. Nancy Sneiderman on NBC Nightly News said Beau Biden’s procedure yesterday was a “complicated biopsy”, and it will be days/weeks before any diagnosis can be made. I tried to catch everything she said, but she said this means that some tissue was left behind, that tumor mass is in a difficult location, that this procedure may reduce his risk of another stroke, that there may be no definitive diagnosis. I join all others in wishing the best for Beau, the most optimal outcome.

Looking more and more like endonasal surgery…however I am not a big fan of “TV doctors”..I do not think she is a neuro-surgeon either!

This may have been a guess on her part? Don’t recall any press briefing, and even though she’s a doctor, not sure she’d be able to definitively get her hands on his medical info. But who knows. I just hope it’s all good.

I don’t know for sure, of course, but I just don’t think she’d guess on a national broadcast on this matter. She sounded like she knew it was a “complicated biopsy”—–said something about “it was reported to be a complicated biopsy”—–maybe just within the medical community.

Earlier this month, we shared with you that the Brady Campaign launched a new initiative called Voices Against Violence.

Well now it’s official. Voices Against Violence has just created the world’s first petition to end gun violence that you sign with your voice.

Check it out, and be among the first ever
in the world to record your voice signature.

The idea is simple: Every voice in the world is unique and every voice matters.

Americans want a nation that is free from gun violence. With your help, our individual voices will become a chorus for change that Congress cannot ignore.

Between now and the end of the week, we’re hoping for 10,000 people to make some noise with Voices Against Violence. Will you make your voice heard?

Now is the time to raise our voices against gun violence. Every day we wait, another 90 Americans die from a bullet.

We’ve had too many moments of silence. Make some noise and record your voice signature now. Be one of the first ever in the world to record your voice signature.
