    Congrats on first PrettyFoot!

THERE is an indisputable elegance to the idea of transforming garbage into fuel, of turning icky, smelly detritus into something valuable. But big drawbacks have prevented the wholesale adoption of trash-to-gas technology in the United States: ……

Mike Hart thinks that he has solved those problems. In a former Air Force hangar outside Sacramento, his company, Sierra Energy, has spent the last several years testing a waste-to-energy system called the FastOx Pathfinder. The centerpiece, a waste gasifier that’s about the size of a shower stall, is essentially a modified blast furnace. A chemical reaction inside the gasifier heats any kind of trash — whether banana peels, used syringes, old iPods, even raw sewage — to extreme temperatures without combustion. The output includes hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which together are known as syngas, for synthetic gas, and can be burned to generate electricity or made into ethanol or diesel fuel. The FastOx is now being prepared for delivery to Sierra Energy’s first customer: the United States Army.

It’s called Operation Orange Fingers, and the Seattle police believe it is the best way to educate the public on the state’s new Marijuana laws.

Police passed out over a 1,000 bags of Doritos at the entrance of the Seattle Hempfest this weekend. Each bag came with an instructional sticker that listed several “Do’s and Don’ts” of Marijuana usage

Once again proving that the way to a stoners heart is through the stomach.

Just found this interesting info. He added 45 thousand followers yesterday.

President Obama has over 35 million followers on Twitter. #4 worldwide! http://twittercounter.com/BarackObama

I think he could win a third term easily. Makes me so fired up to win the House and increase Dems in the Senate to give him 2 years to get his agenda for this country on it’s way!!

I have a question for all of you. I have a couple of friends who are telling me when the ACA exhanges come up, they’ll have to pay more, as they don’t qualify for subsidies. One friend, a newly retired teacher has told me this. When I told her about the figures coming out for the costs being much lower than anticipated (here in CA being one of the places), she said that’s for a 40 year old (she’s in her early 60’s). She talked about the gold, silver, and bronze plans not covering her the way she could be covered now. I’ve heard this from a couple of people. Is this because the law has to be tweaked. I know the subsisides will be given to people below the poverty line, but what about others. For instance, people who buy insurance privately, like cosmotologists? Any feedback?

I am sorry, I got to bring my concern over from the last post:

Hey TOD Family, I hope all is well. I feel the need to share a major concern I have regarding the operation of the
“Clinton Machine” in preparation for Hillary’s expected run for the Presidency.

Before I express my concern, let it be known, I think if Hillary decides to run, it would be absolutely historical.

If she’s the nominee I will work my azz off to help her get elected, just as I did with our current Greatest President in my life time; President Barack Obama.

With that said, I strongly believe that the Clinton Machine is operating to undermine President Obama in such away that potential legislative/policy achievements will be sabotage by the CM so as to give early legislative/policy victories to Hillary.

Obamabots, please don’t under estimate James Carville, Lanny Davis, Howard Wolfson, MSM and those Clintonites currently in PBO’s administration.

I hope I am wrong, but I doubt that very seriously. Just be prepared.

Keep the home fires burning in the TOD village while I’m off the grid for 3 weeks: visiting my 91 y/o mother-in -law in MN who has dial-up and then hiking in the Canadian Rockies. I will miss you all so much!!

    • August 20, 2013 at 11:25 pm

Have a great time, Judith! I once did 150 miles in the Canadian Rockies – absolute mind-blowing splendor. August is just about the only month you can hike there with reasonable safely. Enjoy!

    • August 20, 2013 at 11:44 pm

Judith, your mother in-law has been blessed with longevity. Enjoy your vacation, especially the hiking in the Canadian Rockies. Please send pictures if you can while you are there.

    • August 21, 2013 at 12:39 am

Have a wonderful time Judith. It is beautiful there in August. If you’re not used to high altitude just remember it will affect you the first day or two hiking. I’m visiting my eighty-eight year old mother-in-law this week-end. Not in a beautiful place though.

The camera angle was probably about three miles north of the mine. . .

it always amazes me how this happens…how “the news” decides years in advance who is worthy of running for president and who is not. i’m just now seeing article after article talking about ted cruz as if it’s a foregone conclusion he’s running. cbs news right now has a story making all kinds of excuses for cruz being able to run even though he was born in canada, and acts as if cruz is a viable presidential candidate. ted cruz?!? a guy of no legislative accomplishment who’s only claim to fame is being a t-bagger blowhard?!? how does this happen? i don’t see cruz saying anything about it – it’s just simply presented as a fact by “the news” and completely out of nowhere.

they did this same stuff with michelle bachmann and all the other crazy republicans. anyone who the owners of the media don’t approve are simply ignored, and people like cruz and even the “inevitable” hillary clinton are talked about constantly. so weird to watch this happen over and over again. rand paul, ted cruz, and hillary are their current favorites. they act like it’s just happening and with no reason given. it just is, so move along, nothing to see here, you little citizens.

    • August 21, 2013 at 7:58 am

He’s the next Marco Rubio -overhyped by the MSM, but has very little actually going for him. They’d be wise to not let him respond to ANY of PBO’s SOTU addresses.

I actually think the MSM’s choice for GOP candidate (as well as 2016 President-elect) is Chris Christie. By focusing on Cruz, they keep Christie away from the limelight. They did this for Mitt Romney too. Tried to keep him out of the limelight while they focused on the numerous other clowns in the GOP clown car.

      • 82 99ts
        August 21, 2013 at 8:09 am

I find it quite rewarding to note that everyone who responds to a SOTU address by PBO almost instantly loses all and any of their political future. Cruz will have birther trouble from within his own party – it wil not go well for him.

      August 21, 2013 at 8:02 am

I think they believe that the American people are both gullible and irrelevant, 4more. The corporate media owners think that a Cruz, Paul/ Hillary mix will bring viewers and all they have to do is shove something down our throats and we will all accept it as inevitable. They do not understand, nor do they consider, the people power that brought Barack Obama to the presidency. That power is not easily duplicated unless there is a candidate who truly earns our respect and hard work. Right now these guys can bloviate and push all they want. I’m concentrating on 2014. We have states to save from rotten governors and a Congress to win.

        August 21, 2013 at 8:17 am

Well-said Jackie. The MSM is about to learn some hard lessons – first, that money can buy somethings, but not everything. Second, 2014 is not a repeat of 2010. Third no matter how hard they try to make PBO unpopular for the midterms (including their new toy-Greenwald/Snowden/NSA/Guradian), with manufactured polls and Libertarian crap being spewed all over, he will still be VERY popular in 2014 because of his SOUND policies implemented in his first term and now coming to fruition.

“He [Miranda] wants his confiscated electronic equipment returned and assurances that his private data will not be distributed on to other parties.

Quite OK for Greenwald and Snowden to distribute very private data to worldwide sources but Mr Miranda does not want his private data shared – they are 1st degree jokes.

Somewhat off topic – but the wikileaks “party” seems to be imploding in the Oz elections – they don’t seem to be able to support each other for more than 5 minutes.

Nothing in the article makes much sense – but it seems – and reads like – they can’t organize their way out of a paper bag – no wonder Assange is living in an embassy. And this is his party platform

At the time, Mr Assange said his party would hold the government to account.
“Wikileaks Party is a party of accountability, it’s not a party of government,” he said.

ABC news actually did some reporting yesterday and featured Ms Tuff (name is VERY suitable) describing how she managed to talk to the shooter, told him her own life story , and that everyone had difficult situations in their lives that didn’t call for shooting up other people. She actually got him to put down his weapons, empty his pockets of EVERYthing he had (including loose change), and wait until the cops arrived.

I was RIVETED by the report and meant to post something about her on TOD but got distracted. If any one deserves media attention and a call from PBO, it’s Ms. Tuff.

There were some subtle ironies surrounding Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) anti-healthcare event in Dallas last night. For one thing, it was held in a city where local officials are eager to help citizens participate in “Obamacare” and use the law to get coverage for themselves and their families. For another, the event was hosted by the Heritage Foundation’s activist arm — and the Heritage Foundation helped write the blueprint for the Affordable Care Act just 20 years ago.

Regardless, how did last night’s event go? It was probably a little rowdier than organizers expected.

this video shows only a brief excerpt from DeMint’s speech, which was interrupted several times by protesters, some of whom chanted, “You have health care, we should too!”

The right-wing senator responded by mocking Organizing for America for relying on “fake grassroots” activists to show up at events like this one.

: “In its August report, the BEA revised a bunch of a measures including disposable personal income, which was ‘revised.. down for 2008, and up for 2009-2012′. That means essentially that Americans have had more money in their pockets…”

“It goes a long way in explaining in why President Obama won last year… Americans had more money than we thought, and growth was better coming off of a more depressed 2008 than originally believed.”

“For explaining elections… disposable income growth over the course of a president’s term continues to do a pretty good job. If people have more money in their pockets, they’re more likely to reward the party in power.”

Uninsured young adults understand they need health care and will purchase it as long as it’s affordable, according to the results from a new study from the nonpartisan Commonwealth Fund.
The study’s lead author, Sara Collins, pointed out that the results contradict the popular theory that young adults don’t think they need any insurance coverage because they feel invincible. That’s been one of the primary arguments used to make the point that Obamacare’s insurance marketplaces will end up being unworkable because young Americans won’t sign up.
“Contrary to commonly held beliefs, young adults do want affordable health coverage,” Dr. David Blumenthal, the president of the Commonwealth Fund, explained.

Young adults…continuing to be more responsible than their parents:)
