The latest installment of Glenn Greenwald, and the media, with paper bags over their heads……..

But maybe Miranda was a journalist? Amnesty International refers to him as a Guardian employee. At first, the Guardian said nothing about the details of his trip through Heathrow; late Sunday night their story included an update that they were actually funding his travel. And while the Guardian did not include this in its initial coverage, the New York Times reported that Miranda was actually visiting Laura Poitras to help her with her continued reporting on the NSA and other spying programs.

Mr. Miranda was in Berlin to deliver documents related to Mr. Greenwald’s investigation into government surveillance to Ms. Poitras, Mr. Greenwald said. Ms. Poitras, in turn, gave Mr. Miranda different documents to pass to Mr. Greenwald. Those documents, which were stored on encrypted thumb drives, were confiscated by airport security, Mr. Greenwald said. All of the documents came from the trove of materials provided to the two journalists by Mr. Snowden. The British authorities seized all of his electronic media — including video games, DVDs and data storage devices — and did not return them, Mr. Greenwald said.

So basically: Miranda was being a document mule for Greenwald and Poitras, and the Guardian was paying for it. This is no real change of tack. In June, he told the Daily Beast:

“When I was in Hong Kong, I spoke to my partner in Rio via Skype and told him I would send an electronic encrypted copy of the documents,” Greenwald said. “I did not end up doing it. Two days later his laptop was stolen from our house and nothing else was taken. Nothing like that has happened before. I am not saying it’s connected to this, but obviously the possibility exists.”

It’s not so simple to renounce a Canadian citizenship: the citizen is required to appear in court before a judge, with a convincing argument WHY the renunciation is an advantage, or otherwise. I truly hope the Canadian court system is not so easily influenced by bribery as some of our courts here seem to be.

Well, Lisa, tell them they didn’t know my brother. He could swim in the ocean, float, dive, ride waves, etc., etc.! And He was as Black as they come! Absolutely no known evidence of any European mixture; not that having any white mixture frees any one from racism and racial stereotyping.

As the great Frederick Douglass was fond of saying, every time he did something wrong they blamed it on his black blood, but every time he did something considered right and noble by whites they credited it to the white blood in him. This puzzled him greatly. Whenever he bled he just couldn’t tell which part of his blood was black and which part was white. As far as he was concerned his blood was basically one color: RED! Not only that, but he also observed that the color of blood of whites was exactly the same as the color of the blood of blacks. This led Douglass to observe that racists were more stupid than animals, like cows, which peacefully grazed together despite their color differences or the length of their horns.

99t, enjoyed watching Australia’s Little League team in the World Series. That’s true baseball. The joy of the game. I understand it was their first trip there. I think they enjoyed being there. What a distance for them to travel. Forgot what city they were from. Quite a diverse group. Love your accents. Did you see Yardarms clip of Aussie humor. Hilarious. I’ll get the link. Maybe you’ve seen it.

I saw it – I find some aussie humor a little crude – “toilet humor” as we call it. I am a big fan of the British sense of humor – not slapstick, not crude, just funny.

Baseball is not a major sport in Oz – but quite popular. When I was a kid we played a game called “rounders” – smaller bat than a baseball bat & a tennis ball – not a baseball! The size of the field in the school yard depended on the trees around. had to find 4 trees to make the diamond. it was fun

          • August 20, 2013 at 9:37 am

Just playing a game outdoors was fun for me. They said baseball was just catching on there.

It’s been here for a long time – just not big money in it – when the media says “catching on” – they mean the money makers are going to get their cut. (I’m not big on professional sport – kids don’t play for fun anymore – it’s all about the money).

Very Simple, Paul LePage is projecting! That’s exactly what Republicans and quite a few emoprogs have been doing. They accuse the President of doing exactly what they are doing. This is a clever way deflecting non-observant, low information, people from focusing on what they (right wingers and emoprogs) are doing. How in the world does this idiot governor accuse the President of hating white people when most of his administration is composed of white people? At the same time, the “holier than thou liberals/progressives” accuse President Obama of not appointing enough minorities and women. Both accusation are figured prominently by the mainstream media (MSM) without any hint of irony. From the right we get the accusation that President Obama hates white people and from the “holier than thou left” and the MSM we are told that Obama hates minorities and women. Surely, both prepositions can’t be right because Obama would have no body working him. It’s also doubtful that he would have been elected twice by more than 50% majority of Americans, something that has not happened in America since the election and re-election of President Dwight Eisenhower in the 1950’s. To repeat, President Obama is the first President, since Dwight Eisenhower to win two elections with more than 51% of the votes. The Republican Saint, Ronald Reagan did not win more than 51% on his first trial. And neither did Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton or George W. Bush. But the haters of PRESIDENT Obama, both on the right and the self anointed purity on the left, would rather hide this reality. Someone should remind this idiot Gov. of Maine that President Obama won his state convincingly despite the fact that the non white people in Maine constitute a minuscule part of the state’s population. Surely, the vast majority of white people in Maine, who voted for President Obama twice, know fully well that he does not hate white people. I hope LaPage is not conflating hating white racists like him with hating white people.

It’s gotten so I feel like they aren’t allowed to “report” a story unless they are able to put a negative spin on the President.

I long for the days when reporters just reported the straight news…NO SPIN…NO PROPAGANDA

…and the office of the President was respected and the holder of that office was treated with respect as well.

The needs of children are secondary, however, to a right-wing governor in Tom Corbett who remains fixated on breaking the district in order to crush the teachers union and divert money to unproven experiments like vouchers and privately run charters. If the city’s children are left uneducated and impoverished among the smoldering wreckage of a broken school system, so be it.

It’s worth noting that the state itself runs the Philadelphia School District after a 2001 takeover. The state is also responsible for catastrophic budget cuts two years ago that crippled the district’s finances. And in a diabolical example of circular logic, the state argues that the red ink it imposed, and shoddy management it oversees, are proof that the district can’t manage its finances or its mission and therefore shouldn’t get more money

and look at this 2006 article from now-politicaca founder jim vandehei “Bush Offers Praise To Pakistani Leader”:

the bushes were good friends with this guy. notice how vandehei and any other article from that time do not have a single mention of the cost of w. bush’s trip. by this point w. bush was a laughing stock around the world for being a bumbling fool, and iraq and afghanistan were already incredible quagmires, and yet vandehei writes as if w. bush is some great leader going after bin laden in the mountains around pakistan. now, vandehei and the entire major “news” companies fill every single article with doubt and condescension regarding president obama, the guy who actually “got” bin laden.

now maybe we’ll get some proof that bush/republican friends such as mussaraf are conniving killers, and more people will understand the complexity of president obama’s position. meanwhile though, the white privilege “liberals” will continue in their incessant NSA ramblings to bring down president obama. the state of our “news” today is pure insanity.

jim vandehei’s ending paragraph from that article/glowing praise of the bumbling fool w. bush:

“Bush spent the entire day here, starting with a welcoming ceremony and ending with a state dinner. In the afternoon, Bush, a former owner of the Texas Rangers, took a swing at cricket, hitting a few balls and bowling — akin to pitching — with about two dozen children. He presented them with autographed baseballs.”

aw, isn’t that sweet. just like how vandehei now writes about president obama, one of if not the best president in american history. (sarcasm)

For any who want it, here is a debunking of Greenwald and the NSA stories he’s been selling quoting Smartypants, Bob Cesca and others. I absolutely agree with his point that this is an assault on govt and that we need to counter with how it is good.

    The left must challenge Greenwald

A libertarian assault on the notion of government lies behind the reporting of the NSA ‘revelations’. The left needs to step up, expose the con and defend government as a force for good….

    • 85 4morefor44
      August 20, 2013 at 2:09 am

didn’t click to the article yet, but i agree that this whole (white privilege) liberal/libertarian joining of forces is carefully orchestrated specifically for that reason – to make “we, the people” hate and distrust all of government in general. “government,” which is the u.s. constitution by definition, is the only way “we, the people” can ever stop greedy bastards from turning the american experiment into a complete fascist state (control by the richest people). the cognitive dissonance of libertarian-types claiming to love the constitution and at the same time incessantly rail against the ebil gubnint is stunning in its stupidity. this has been the exact plan since the koch brothers dad started the john birch society many decades ago, and which the sons are now almost single-handedly funding on their own.

stoking the inherent racism in white privilege liberals is made much easier for them now with america having a “black” president, so that’s why we see “the news” give unlimited time to the snowdenwalds and and anyone other “liberal” who is willing to spittle at the mouth about how incompetent or evil (take your pick each day) president obama is. so much of the liberal blog universe unknowningly plays along with their constant focus on this minor issue, while at the same time they ignore the millions and millions of people, mostly children, who are being helped daily by the tremendous progress and promise-keeping of president obama. forward…we must stop them!

Hi Everybody! Sorry I haven’t been around much today. I’m back to the feast-part of the “feast or famine” aspect of my job. Boy am I exhausted! Anyway, I’ve got much too much catching up to do in the few miniutes that I can be online tonight. So I thought I’d pop in and share a little music instead. 🙂

I read about the new addition to the Obama Family, Miss Sunny — the 2nd First Dog. First song that popped into my head was Shawn Colvin’s Sunny Came Home, but that’s about an abused woman taking revenge, so that doesn’t fit this occason. Then I saw that JoJo already pulled out the classic tune by Bobby Hebb, which does fit. , so I thought I’d throw out a couple of interesting re-makes:

This one, taken from the South Korean movie entitled “Sunny”, appeals to my inner teenager, since it’s about a group of middle-aged women who get together and reminisce about their days together in high school. The music is actually from a 70’s disco version of the classic tune by a German group called Boney M. Both the rendition of the song and the video with cutes from the movie are fun, bouncy, and cute, just like the lovable canine. 🙂

I like this one by this young lady named Ayo too (I’m a new fan).
