Fabulous Chips. Had some very bad news this summer that I couldn’t talk about until now; my husband’s brother, Frank, died at 52 of colon cancer. He died the day after my birthday on July 23. This poem, in some way, comforted me today, so thanks for posting it.

Hi my Layla. How are you doing, my dear one? I prayed for you this morning early. ((((((((((( This is one of my favorites by Dr. Angelou))))))
I taught it to my students, we discussed it together and did a number if activities with this awesome poem, and they loved it.

So encouraging. One of my close friends to this day and a wonderful superintendent of my district came to one of my wonderful class programs when I taught,”Facing History and Ourselves’ and this great lady stood before my class and recited this poem in the most dramatic way and there was not a dry eye in the class afterwards.

Thanks so much for posting it, Chips. (((((((((((((( I love you for bringing so much to our TOD family.))))))))))))) You and the entire brilliant and gifted writers are so special, Chips. TY to all of them for making this beautiful space, our haven to proclaim, remain focus, and respect each other and totally give our all in supporting President Barack H. Obama. TY my special angel. How will the racist Tea Party respond?

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) released his birth certificate amid questions about whether he is eligible to run for president, the Washington Post reports.

Dallas Morning News: โ€œBorn in Canada to an American mother, Ted Cruz became an instant U.S. citizen. But under Canadian law, he also became a citizen of that country the moment he was born. Unless the Texas Republican senator formally renounces that citizenship, he will remain a citizen of both countries, legal experts say.โ€

Good, I hope this asshole renounces his Canadian citizenship just to appease those dumbasses that make up the Tea-bag party. And I hope the citizens of Canada throw this fuck-stick a “don’t let the door hit you where the good lord split you” going away party.

Are we sure that his birth certificate is real? Has it been doctored? Did I hear Trump asking all of these questions? ๐Ÿ™‚

When the right wingers who demanded proof of PBO’s birth certificate and Donald chump says it’s ok, I know this will be another example of the GOP hypocrisy and why they can’t be trusted to do anything that is not self serving.

OT Rant: I find it just amazing that NO ONE in the MSM pointed out that Bloomberg has a problem with police stopping and frisking “too many” whites. The lawsuit showed that there were MORE whites stopped with illegal guns yet there was NO increase in stopping more whites. The GOP/corporate media always wants to point out that more minorities comment petty drug crimes or violent crimes yet most whites hold up banks, are serial killers, etc. yet there are no efforts to stop every white male for suspicion of committing these crimes when a bank is robbed or missing kids. When that little girl was kidnapped in San Diego, CA and on the run, I heard of NO white men being pulled over and questioned. When the black cop went on a killing spree, every black man driving a truck…any truck was suspect.

It’s ok, until you guys start talking about a program that has yet to come on out here on the west coast and you give it all away. I just ask that a “Spoiler Alert” be posted in advance so I know not to read any comments. Other than that, I’m here – running as fast as I can to keep up ๐Ÿ˜†

You would never be able to set up a TOD timezone….you have too many people from too many different countries, (not to mention Alaska & Russia), who follow TOD – so we pop in when we can ๐Ÿ˜€

It doesnโ€™t matter about Christ Hayes, the fact that MSNBC felt the need to bring back Ed as an antidote to Hayes tells me that they are not happy with him. So now Hayes is in an unwinnable situation, if he goes in the bag further to support GG heโ€™s toast, and if he turns away for GG heโ€™s just another Libertarian engaging in high-minded abstract thinking, sort of like Bernie Sanders with his bullshit populist speech.

Even if I agree with some of the Bernie Sanders bullshit populist speech, it’s bullshit unless he does more than talk. Has he ever gotten anything moving through Congress? To me, he thinks his role is to just tell us how WE should think, and – more annoyingly – how the President should think and act.

Oh, come on, DNC. As I told ya in my response, I DO NOT wish to wake up to find an email birthday card for FORMER Pres. Clinton. I do not!

The DNC needs to support President Obama, in the present and future, not our past Presidents. If any Democrats want to send individual birthday greetings to the Clintons, be my guest. Don’t use the party platform to waste our time to praise and exalt Bill – he’s a past President. We’ve got work to do.

I tell you, JO’B, I’m already completely sick of both of them. I’ve noticed that some people in my TL are starting to change their avis to HRC. OMG, three years of this?

I’ve noticed that avi thingie, too. At first, I’d think “who’s that?” and then realize it’s HRC. Truth be told, if it’s not a TODer and I see that avi, I unfollow or at least consider unfollowing them. My own “silent” statement – Ha!

I want three more years of President Obama, not somebody whose surname is Clinton – arghhh.

I received the same, Layla, and I responded in the same manner. Meta, you are probably correct on this one as well. I have no money to give, and I gave my respect to former President Clinton when he was in office. I get a little tired of everyone trying to hog the time from POB.

We will stay focus to helping POB. We still have much to get done with our president, so as Bobfr reminds us, PRESS FORWARD.

JOB, I, too, found that e-mail offensive, but unlike you, I just clicked it off rather than respond as well as you did. It irked me to end that he was referred to as ‘President” Clinton. That just did it for me and I deleted it. You took the wiser course–thank you.

As mtmarilyn as stated, we will be here for you as long as you need us, our wonderful Layla. I pray for you and your friends families each and every day.

I know that this has to be a very, very difficult time, but with beautiful loving words of wisdom, loving prayers and beautiful meditative words, we will stand with you and by you for the duration of your coping with this tremendous loss.

Here is one that I read, Layla:
            “Dear God:
“You promised me that your comfort would come to me in times of despair.
You promised me that if I would lean on you and call on you, I would find peace.
I come to you now filled with grief and despair at the loss of ————————————(state the name(s) of the person(s) or the situation.
I am leaning on you for strength.
I am calling on you for understanding.
I am reaching out to you for comfort.
I am depending on you to help me learn how to accept this loss.
            Help me, Holy Spirit.
            Guide me, Holy Spirit.
            Comfort me, Holy Spirit.
Give me peace. Give me peace. Give me peace.
Leaning on the promises of God, through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit,
I am now filled with comfort and peace.
            And So It Is!”
“Every Day I Pray: Prayers for Awakening to the Grace of Inner Communion” by Iyanla Vanzant.

One of my favorites by her. I normally use it throughout the morning and close with one at night, depending on what has entered my space.

THE PLOT THICKENS….I have lots of popcorn on hand…this story has as much suspense as a suspense movie…

But imagine a scenario under which – through intelligence gathering operations – the US and/or the UK government has found sources to corroborate that exact story. Imagine a scenario in which intelligence has found evidence to link Greenwald as an instigator to Mr. Snowden’s crime rather than just a reporter, and the detention and questioning of Mr. Miranda and confiscation of his equipment was in fact to gather physical evidence to prove this crime. If that’s the case, it wouldn’t be any wonder that Greenwald would be very, very worried.

Oakland classes offer black males hope

Stationed at the doorway to his classroom at Oakland High School, Tiago Robinson greeted each student with a handshake.

Every student was black and each one was male.

A few wore pictures of friends on their shirts or on laminated cards strung on lanyards they wore around their necks – memorial images of siblings, classmates or cousins who’d been killed.

As they grabbed their binders from a closet, some joked around or dissected the previous night’s Warriors game. Others walked slowly and silently to their seats, their shoulders hunched, their eyes tired.

Robinson, an African American man with spotless tennis shoes, a shaved head and heavily tattooed arms, shut the door.

“Brothers, let’s bring it in,” he began.

The class quieted down and Robinson started to teach. His goal this day – as it was every day – was to help these teens learn how to navigate the world in and out of school. To try and create strong, successful black males by demonstrating the man he’d become.

How the GOP Can Lose the Midterms

    by BooMan
Mon Aug 19th, 2013 at 02:43:10 PM EST

When it comes to midterm elections prognostication, it’s helpful to look at demographic trends and polling data, but, at least when it comes to the House of Representatives, you need to focus on the make-up of the districts. Growth of the minority population, higher minority turnout, and less support from minorities for Republican candidates would be unwelcome developments for the GOP, but those factors would also be unlikely to change the outcome in more than a small handful of House elections. That’s because most Republican-held districts have relatively few minorities and the whites are reliably Republican. If the Republicans are really in jeopardy of losing control of the House, it’s because they’re losing the support of people who they used to be able to depend upon for support.
That’s where their handling of the budget, economy, retirement programs, health care, farming, and even transportation, could become a problem. Historically, no organization has been more closely aligned with the Republican Party than the national Chamber of Commerce, but that has to be about to change considering that the modern GOP simply refuses to do its bidding anymore. The Chamber wants immigration reform, but it also wants more transportation spending and opposes a government shutdown or imposition of the debt limit.

The agricultural industry is another source of strength of the GOP, especially considering that the Republicans dominate in rural areas. But failing to produce a Farm Bill is enraging farmers.
