      You guys are so funny! Hey, you may be LOL, but don’t be surprised if the MSM and the GOP start attacking the President because of the fact that the Obamas didn’t let them in on the secret that they were getting a new dog. Many of them are likely to cite this, as proof positive, that President Obama is a secretive “exotic” person who does not share “our” American values. In any case, I am happy they got another dog. Growing up my Dad had three dogs and my oldest sister (her husband was a Vet) had two cats. They were always a source of delight when I was growing up. Sunny looks as cute, and I must say quite as poised, as Bo! Maria and Sasha must be thrilled to have another cute dog to play with.

  9. August 19, 2013 at 8:25 pm

    Sunny is pretty big for a pup. Doesn’t look much smaller than Bo, but definitely off the top of the cuteness scale! How did they manage to keep this a secret? Why wasn’t Greenwald all over this? Who knew what and when did they know it????

        Both dogs truly embody President Obama’s spirit! Despite the hatred and the constant “NO” from Republicans, President Obama still believes that the key to American progress and success is through cooperation and looking out for the common good. Bo is definitely well trained in the Obama creed. That’s why he was able to welcome a younger stranger to share his house.

            Thank you so much HZ for your kind words. They mean so much to me. I will be 68 in October. To this day, I still don’t understand people who hate President Obama and his family so much. I don’t know of any other President in my lifetime who has embodied more goodness and love for this country, and especially love for the ordinary people who are not super wealthy, than President Obama. Thankfully, there are so many beautiful souls like you and TOD members who know the TRUTH. For future historians, TOD will provide an antidote to all the untruths and pure distortions, about President Obama and his family, peddled by propagandists masquerading as journalists.

    Tribute to the Obama’s new puppy:

  18. August 19, 2013 at 8:38 pm

    Q&A in a new, interesting series about the new economy. Mayor Berke was thrilled with the President’s visit. This piece is mostly answering Q’s about Chattanooga, not the President’s ideas, but he got the headline!

    Is Obama Right About Chattanooga?
    On the heels of a presidential visit touting the local economy, new mayor Andy Berke says, “Now is our time.”
    http://www.nationaljournal.com/next-economy/america360/is-obama-right-about-chattanooga-20130819

    President Obama’s recent trip to Chattanooga to an Amazon warehouse caught some flak nationally because Amazon has been criticized for not paying decent wages to its workers and subjecting them to some poor working conditions. Did you think this criticism of the Chattanooga plant was fair? Are those decent middle-class jobs?

    The president came to Amazon to talk about a better bargain for the middle class. The jobs at Amazon are a piece of that puzzle. It’s not the only piece, but Amazon has been a contributor to thousands of people in Chattanooga. We would never look down on that. It’s a growing company; in our current economy, we should treasure that success.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In Chattanooga President Obama said
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2013/07/30/remarks-president-jobs-middle-class-073013
    ….So Iโ€™m doing a series of speeches over the next several weeks, but I came to Chattanooga today to talk about the first and most important cornerstone of middle-class security, and that’s a good job in a durable, growing industry. (Applause.)….
    ….But let me briefly outline some of the areas I think we need to focus on if we want to create good jobs, with good wages, in durable industries -โ€“ areas that will fuel our future growth.
    Number one — jobs in American manufacturing. (Applause.) Over the past four years, for the first time since the 1990s, the number of manufacturing jobs in America hasnโ€™t gone down, itโ€™s actually gone up. (Applause.) So the trend lines are good; now weโ€™ve got to build on that progress. I want to offer new incentives for manufacturers not to ship jobs overseas, but to bring them back here to America. (Applause.) I want new tax credits so communities hit hardest by plant closures can attract new investment. (Applause.) ….
    ….Number two — I talked about this last week — jobs rebuilding our infrastructure. I look at this amazing facility and you guys, you don’t miss a beat. I mean, you’ve got these packages coming out. You’ve got dog food and Kindles and beard trimmers. (Laughter.) I mean, there’s all kinds of stuff around here. But once it’s packed up, it’s got to get to the customer. And how quickly and how dependably it gets to the customer depends on do we have good roads, do we have good bridges, do we have state-of-the-art airports. ….
    But maybe Miranda was a journalist? Amnesty International refers to him as a Guardian employee. At first, the Guardian said nothing about the details of his trip through Heathrow; late Sunday night their story included an update that they were actually funding his travel. And while the Guardian did not include this in its initial coverage, the New York Times reported that Miranda was actually visiting Laura Poitras to help her with her continued reporting on the NSA and other spying programs.
    Mr. Miranda was in Berlin to deliver documents related to Mr. Greenwaldโ€™s investigation into government surveillance to Ms. Poitras, Mr. Greenwald said. Ms. Poitras, in turn, gave Mr. Miranda different documents to pass to Mr. Greenwald. Those documents, which were stored on encrypted thumb drives, were confiscated by airport security, Mr. Greenwald said. All of the documents came from the trove of materials provided to the two journalists by Mr. Snowden. The British authorities seized all of his electronic media โ€” including video games, DVDs and data storage devices โ€” and did not return them, Mr. Greenwald said.
    So basically: Miranda was being a document mule for Greenwald and Poitras, and the Guardian was paying for it. This is no real change of tack. In June, he told the Daily Beast:
    โ€œWhen I was in Hong Kong, I spoke to my partner in Rio via Skype and told him I would send an electronic encrypted copy of the documents,โ€ Greenwald said. โ€œI did not end up doing it. Two days later his laptop was stolen from our house and nothing else was taken. Nothing like that has happened before. I am not saying itโ€™s connected to this, but obviously the possibility exists.โ€
    There are a lot of articles about how this is dividing the GOP and that business leaders don’t like it. There’s just no Fox News bubble that can cover this. Everyone is thrown together with relatives or friends that live in different states and have different politics or that at least actually read the news. Health care is so important and has nothing to do with politics. I think when people realize how GOP governors have refused funds and are messing up the health care exchanges it will really hit home for the GOP. They are flat out lying and this is the first thing that is so real that it could burst the bubble.
      • 83 vcprezofan2
        August 19, 2013 at 9:36 pm
        COS, you know ‘they’ all expect PBO to rescue every country from itself, intervene in every country’s leadership, especially if an American is even remotely involved, single handedly run the US government while holding Congress’ hands and not hurting Congress members’ feeling AND be on the job 365 & 24/7! ๐Ÿ™„
        Maddow may have her moments of sanity and objective reporting, but IMO she has a fundamentally insulting way to speak of PBO when she doesn’t agree with him that totally turned me off sometime ago (I used to stay up late nightly to watch her programme). Now I only watch when someone shares an objective segment here, and even then it’s with reservations. That uncalled for attack on the president I witnessed her doing, not only angered me intensely, it killed my respect for her. I can’t ‘follow’ you if I don’t respect you.
            VC and WilTal, my sentiments as well. I am so tired (really of the constant blaming and disrespect of the likes of Ms. Maddow and others in this regard. Never watch them anymore. I will on occasion watch LO and I do watch Rev. Al. Love to hear the likes of Joy Reid.
            I found that my stress level went down a little, when I stopped giving these people part of my space. I try to read and send out via email measures that the president is trying to get done. We all worked so hard to get him elected and then re-elected, so we need to enjoy as much of his presidency these few years left. Otherwise, these foolish people will sap all of the earned joy that we should be experiencing now. Just had to lay out a neighbor who stopped me this weekend to bash the president. I tore his rightwing pants off and told him to Never approach me with talking points on this president and especially the ACA. I had to come in and go to bed after talking with that fool.
            Just not going to allow them to speak in my presence about their crap. I refuse to try to educate a foolish person who is not willing to be educated on the issues. It insults my hard work and the great sacrifice that my mother and grandparents invested in my life as a person. Mother always said, “Do not waste time on foolish people because you will loose mama’s hard paid interest in your life, and daddy and I will never be able to regain it. So enjoy our sacrificial investments in your life; because we have tried to give you and your brother our very best.” I always remember that when I experience what I experienced this weekend.HZ
        There are plenty of people rotting in prisons around the world because someone smuggled drugs in their luggage. I’d rather the US govt spend time helping these people before lifting a finger to help these traitors of the Greenwald clan.
      • August 19, 2013 at 10:04 pm
        As usual, COS, Rachel is off the rails on this. Why should the US intervene in a decision made by the UK? How would we feel if the UK intervened in a custody issues at Kennedy Airport or LAX. And for what?– as a favor to Greenwald who acts out of an intense hatred for both the US and our president.
        I too, JOB, remember RFK’s remarks in Indiana following the assassination of MLK. I was, at the time, very active in RFK’s campaign for President. I also remember watching his victory speech after he won the California primary when he was gunned down. That horror will be with me all my life. 1968 was one of the most horrible years in my lifetime. in a span of two months, we had lost MLK and RFK, two of the most promising moral leaders that this country has produced. Thankfully many of us refused to despair and we eventually lived long enough to witness the election of President Obama.
Stealing U.S classified information and sharing it with U.S. adversaries is, in my humble opinion, the hight of treason. Enough of the utter nonsense by people who try to equate what the cowardly Snowden and Greenwald did with the selfless and courageous deeds of Gandhi, Dr. King, and Rosa Parks. To tell you the truth, the equally cowardly idiots who anonymously insist on comparing Snowden to Gandhi and Dr. King make me want to puke.
    Can I ask for a favor? Please, please do not report on what the haters are saying about Sunny. I came here so excited because I logged onto Facebook after getting home and got several posts from the WH on the new addition to the Obama family. I went to the WH link, watched the video while saying Awwwwwww … the whole time. The photos above are marvelous. Thank you Pete Souza, thank you TOD for posting these. What a happy thing to see! So please, let us just love this together and forget everything and everyone else. Welcome Sunny; we love Bo and I know we will love you too.
