Hello all. One bit of info regarding Regal Cinemas. Corporate headquarters are located right here in good old ‘red’ east Tennessee. I know they are usually a franchise, but nevertheless, usually the tone is set at the top, right? If I’m not mistaken, the CEO is woman. I would need to double check that because we have a number of corporate headquarters here in this area and I may be getting Regal confused with another one.

If you are a government wonk then Government Executive is for you. It’s for federal managers and agencies and has LOTS of info about government. I’ve learned so much here that didn’t seem to be covered anywhere else, but it is wonkish. http://www.govexec.com/

There’s more good news about the postal service. I order clothes online. They say they use Fed EX, but USPS delivers the package so there is some kind of cooperation going on. I can’t see this article is about that aspect, but it is something that’s new to me anyway. It reminds me of President Obama’s jobs efforts where he goes around congress and gets the job done. I think we have the best postal service in the world and would like to see it prosper and stay part of the govt.

Postal Service Aims to Bring In $500M a Year With New Package Services

….The announcement comes as the Postal Service has seen dramatic increases in its package business, thanks in large part to the growth of e-commerce. Package delivery has grown 14 percent over the last two years, and USPS officials expect that to grow an additional 41 percent — to $370 billion annually — by 2017.

“We believe this Priority Mail line-up positions the Postal Service very competitively in the shipping marketplace and gives small businesses and other frequent shippers a continued and compelling reason to do business with the Postal Service,” Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe said….

…Donahoe added that without the operation investments USPS has made over the last few years, these improvements would not have been possible. He said the Postal Service would like to make additional changes to its business, but cannot do so because of Congressional restrictions on the agency…..

I’ll read more of this, but definitely when FEDEX and UPS deliver something to our front doors, the USPS is often involved along the way in the cargo air portion. All you have to do to confirm that is track some of your shipments/deliveries online. The fools who want to bring down the Postal Service hide all those facts.

        • August 18, 2013 at 9:55 pm

I don’t know that this article is about the FedEx/USPS connection. This is just the first time I’ve personally noticed it.

I remember President Obama doing quite a bit about making government more effective. Seems like it started early on, maybe 2009 or 2010 and I wondered if these innovations are part of a process he set in place. Changed PC’s and don’t have my links, but I’ll watch for it. I’m sure it’s somewhere on the WH site.

Given that the March on Washington was widely credited with helping win passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, there’s some irony in the fact that many North Carolinians will be motivated to turn out for the Take the Dream Home marches by the recent passage of one of the most restrictive voting laws in the nation. North Carolina’s Voter Identification and Verification Act, or VIVA, is being challenged in the courts for violating the Voting Rights Act and the 14th and 15 amendments to the U.S. Constitution

Sirota dusts off the argument of “either he’s incompetent or a liar” and applies it to President Obama. Of course President Obama is too smart to be incompetent – and so he is, by default, a liar. The line about incompetence vs liar made sense when President Reagan said he didn’t know about Iran/Contra. But its not like President Obama is suggesting he doesn’t know about NSA surveillance. What it comes down to in Sirota’s case is that he’s using it as a tool to try to stop people from considering the President’s arguments. In other words, its a rhetorical device used to distract rather than engage…

a few things have bothered me about the NSA leak case from the beginning:

    – why is most of media in some form of group think and jumping to defend the key players in the case even when there is plenty of evidence that they are being manipulated? seems they are acting in the same ways as those professionals/groups who jump to defend their own

    – what is it about Ms. Laura Poitras that people seem to be scared to question her central role in each turn of the story?

The MSM have had blinders on in this case from the day Greenwald’s first article appeared in the Guardian in early June.

They refuse to step back, take a breath, think of history and examine the timeline of events.

The Guardian especially is after the $$ (well, pounds, but I don’t know how to get WordPress to print the sign for Pound Sterling).

@Gus_802 has some illuminating tweets in his very active timeline today (Miranda is Greenwald’s partner):

      • August 18, 2013 at 9:18 pm

Internet speculation is abuzz that a puzzling tweet sent by Wikileaks on Friday was a dump of all their info. Theories are forming that Greenwald’s partner Miranda secured all that info from Jacob Applebaum and Laura Poitras and was ferrying to Greenwald back at home in Rio.

Speculation that the German authorities may have tipped UK authorities on Miranda (only speculation at this point).

        And here’s @Wikileaks patheric threat:

      • August 18, 2013 at 9:34 pm

Last tweets today on this subject. Here’s link to martyr “objective journalist” threatening the United States:
“Greenwald: Snowden’s files are out there if anything happens to him”

And not sure why Guardian UK front page didn’t display above:

    From NYT:

Britain Detains the Partner of a Reporter Tied to Leaks

..Mr. Miranda was in Berlin to deliver documents related to Mr. Greenwald’s investigation into government surveillance to Ms. Poitras, Mr. Greenwald said. Ms. Poitras, in turn, gave Mr. Miranda different documents to pass to Mr. Greenwald. Those documents, which were stored on encrypted thumb drives, were confiscated by airport security, Mr. Greenwald said. All of the documents came from the trove of materials provided to the two journalists by Mr. Snowden. The British authorities seized all of his electronic media — including video games, DVDs and data storage devices — and did not return them, Mr. Greenwald said…

Ok, serious question, why send your partner/spouse who is NOT a journalist with these documents when you know the gov’t is watching your every mood. My guess is that a non-journalist was used, 1) because maybe they figured they wouldn’t stop him, and 2) a bigger stink would be made if he did get caught/detained since he was a “civilian” and therefore a more sympathetic figure to supporters of the cause to be outraged over their treatment?

    • August 18, 2013 at 9:32 pm

Bravo Bob for speaking (tweeting) TRUTH! Everything is completely upside down during the Presidency of Barack Obama. Defectors to countries hostile to the United States, and pretend journalists who use foreign Press to undermine the security of the United States, are now hailed as heroes by the media and the self anointed, former right wingers, who now pose as the leaders of the left.

Bloomberg had a nice piece on the positive economic impact of the President’s vacation. One complainer in the beginning because a road was detoured, but long article with nice compliments.

Obama’s Vacation an Economic Boon for Vineyard Even With Detours

….As one example, Obama’s dog, Bo, has driven sales of mugs and shirts featuring images of the breed, the Portuguese Water Dog, Scott said. Emblazoned on one popular shirt: “BoBama, the new dog in town.”….

….“When Obama comes, you hear sirens and it’s better than the circus coming into town,” said Alan Schweikert, who owns Ocean Park Realty in Oak Bluffs. “You do get the feeling that it makes us unique and desirable.”….

….The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber of Commerce website has drawn more traffic because of Obama, according to Executive Director Nancy Gardella.

In 2009, the first year when the White House said he and his family would show up, there were 70,000 more viewers than the same week a year earlier. In 2010 and 2011, the news of his impending arrival yielded 45,000 more clicks.

“We know that those hits are going to result in people coming,” Gardella said. “It is all good for our economy.”….

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” ― John Quincy Adams

I know I’ve used this before but the stultifying actions of that Greenwald manipulator made me think he sure isn’t a leader. No matter how he plots and plans he’ll never inspire positive actions.

I’m going to do some reading. I wish Ms Chips would do another book share so we can uplift our thoughts beyond the likes of GiGi.

Good Night, one and all! Sweet dreams!

Those on the left who are supporting ” journalist” GG and “whistleblower Snowden” are many of the same people who were on the right supporting GWB and the WMD in 2002. Guess it will take them another 4 years to realize GG is no journalist and Snowden no hero.

I find it interesting where the folks in the center of the storm are living – in an embassy and in Russia – the latter recently moved from living in an airport.
