HEy everyone. Hope it’s a good day, while grading my students.
Hello and Good Afternoon Gorgeous TODers Everywhere 😉
Congrats MRM……Gold ❗ You wear it Very Well 🙂
Great placard, JOB. Thanks for posting.
The insurance company that covers our prescriptions requires us to use ExpressScripts and have our prescriptions delivered through USPS or they won’t cover cost. Unless it’s an emergency medication. R’s don’t think.
Even FEDEX and UPS use USPS.
Yes, they don’t think past their nose.
Bill Press asking about Snowden……and the summit cancellation……..
and….and…. DRONES! and….and….. The NSA is full of SPIES!………. and…and…. PBO isn’t Hillary! Waaaahhhhhh…………..
Pres is Going to Sweden……Oh Yeah.
Love is in the air at TOD…….POTUS and FLOTUS style.
I am Loving It 😉
Thanks Chips 😉
What on earth are we going to do in 2017…!
Well, His Library and if the economy and as ACA thrives…..Our Pride and Joy for a Nation revived by Pres Obama would have to be enough. His Legacy would have to be enough.
Yes!
PRAY!
Amen!
Return to the mundanity of daily living, while keeping eyes and ears open to what the O’s are doing in their individual lives, and pridefully support them whenever and wherever we can.
Oh, you meant politically? I don’t know. 😉
Actually, I was exactly at the place your response hit. I won’t know what to do with myself, and it will be very difficult to feel this loyal towards anyone else. He’s an exceptional man. An exceptional President.
Jay Carney has Left the Podium…….
Did Jay walk out, or is the press update over? I would love it if Jay one day just said “I just can’t deal with you idiots anymore” and marched out! (of course, that will never happen… he’s too professional).
The presser Concluded.
This is a really great photo. It takes a well mannered dog and a very good photographer to take a good photo of a black dog.
Our Bo owns the WH. What a wonderful dog!
He is just so polite, and professional. His boots are just the best. I would love to see my black/white springer spaniel snuggle up against him…they’d be quite the pair.
It’s Only about PayCheck? No Love just a two yrs waiting Game for Rand Paul? And McConnell is paying for his services?
With Employees like this…….?
http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/mcconnell-campaign-manager-im-sorta-holding-my-nose
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) campaign manager said he’s begrudgingly working in his current capacity to help the presidential prospects of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), according to an explosive phone recording that surfaced Thursday.
In the recording, obtained by Economic Policy Journal, Jesse Benton — who ran Paul’s successful 2010 campaign before joining McConnell’s team — told conservative activist Dennis Fusaro that he has an ulterior motive in working the GOP leader’s 2014 campaign
HA!! Let them have at it. They’re not going to win ANYTHING and they know it. They are just biding their time, with their pressers and their campaign funds. Unfortunately we’re going to have to deal with this for 3 1/2 more years, unless we can get the majority of them out before then.
Yay! Democratic Travis County in Austin, Texas. Good job HHS Sebelius.
See? It pays to show up at a town hall. Every time we can channel the narrative, it’s one less chance the Evildoers have to capture the narrative:
😎 That is what We all need to do……Go and attend the town hall meetings and make them hear Us.
Been talking about this for awhile. If we all go to just one town hall, we can help shape the narrative for these coming weeks, as if proof of the above tweet.
http://www.accountablecongress.com/
This is just terrific. Clearly, the Republican Party did not think this through. Their obsession with repealing Obamacare and replacing it will nothing is finally catching up with them. These August town hall meetings are going to be fascinating.
I hope everyone who is encouraged by the Koch Brothers, the Republicans in congress or whoever to NOT SIGN UP FOR ACA will ask them “WHAT HEALTHCARE COVERAGE DO YOU HAVE?? Why do you think I don’t deserve the same healthcare coverage that you have??? Please explain.
And are we to believe that the Tea Party folks who are up in arms about the ACA just don’t need any stinking healthcare. Or have never had a problem with getting coverage because of a preexisting condition. Or don’t have dependents under the age of 26 who can’t get a job and need medical coverage. Or never had the need for preventive care like mammograms, colonoscopy, yearly checkups. Or have any need for a Patients Bill of Rights that protects them from the abuses of the heath insurance industry. Maybe they are content to know that their representatives in congress have excellent healthcare even if THEY don’t. The lengths some people will go to out of hatred for President Obama is truly breathtaking.
It’s not that Repubs didn’t think it through, Ladyhawke. It’s that they assume we will be our usual lazy selves during mid terms and do nothing to stand up. They can assume that their loon fringe will vote – they have effectively hijacked out entire government due to the lack of commitment by Dem’s. We don’t vote in sufficient numbers, we allow them to be the story. We’re finally reclaiming the political process. It has never been more important for all of us to vote, to get others to vote, and to do our part to reclaim the narrative.
Republicans have cut funding to get the word out on ACA. It’s our job. We can do it.
Yes, we can 57, and we can get out the vote, too. I’m not going to let any narrative about how hard it is get me down. If we come out to vote, we win, because there are more of us than there are of them.
Damn right we can do it. It took Republicans 30+ years to get their RWNJ dream government because they didn’t take their baseball bats and go home when they didn’t get Roe v. Wade repealed by Reagan. They stayed with the political process no matter what. They didn’t drive our side out – we ceded the political landscape to them until black was white, up was down, government is bad, taxes are bad became CW.
So that’s what it takes. We stay in the game. We won’t win ’em all, but we’ve started to undo the damage and will continue to do so as long as we effing VOTE.
Excellent points, ladyhawke!
Here you go, Ladyhawkw!
That’s the best question YET.
I like it too, as it is VERY pertinent to the discussion. I copied it from LadyH’s comment. It probably would be quite effective if asked at just the right time and in just the right tone (non-confrontational) at a town hall meeting.
Thank you vc. You are too kind.
Obamacare supporters can go to town-hall meetings, too
By Steve Benen
—————————————–
I have to admit, I always find it a little amusing when this happens. Far-right congressional Republicans vote, over and over again, to destroy the entirety of the Affordable Care Act, insisting the whole thing has to go, root and branch. But when confronted with struggling families who actually benefit from the law, suddenly the tune changes. “Sure, I voted to repeal the law and deny your family what you need,” the argument usually goes, “but I kind of like some of the popular parts….”
.
.
Congressional Republicans always seem to find it easy to condemn and sabotage the law, but find it less easy when it comes to the individual provisions that remain extremely popular. McHenry hates the dreaded Obamacare, except for the protections for those with pre-existing conditions, and the policy that covers young adults, and the tax breaks for small businesses, and the prescription-drug benefits for seniors, and….
As for the bigger picture, if GOP lawmakers have to spend the August recess convincing the right they truly hate the federal health care system, while convincing the left they really don’t, it should make for a fascinating recess.

Exactly!
Just saw this on Martin Bashir’s show. What a brave man! Every Republican lawmaker should be met by an Obamacare supporter. They need to get the message that everyone in this country is not crazy!
President Obama’s Appearance on ‘The Tonight Show’ Earns Top Tuesday Overnights in 21 Months
http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/08/07/president-obamas-appearance-on-the-tonight-show-earns-top-tuesday-overnights-in-21-months/196177/
That’s why Rethugs’ heads are exploding about this. They hate the fact that President Obama is charming, eloquent and humorous enough to go on late night shows and get big audiences.
Love it!!
I feel like it’s finally happening. An awakening is occurring and our eyes are being opened.
Wow. My best friend’s husband was at a township meeting at a neighboring township when that loon blew away people at a township meeting in Ross Township, PA
Is he okay, 57. This was such a horrifying story–a township meeting, the dullest of the dull–and some lunatic starts killing people. Just..plain…insane.
he’s fine. He was in the next township, at a township meeting when they got word.
The Bible-thumping area of Pennsyl-tucky. I don’t know how they stand it, being the liberals that they are, but my friend has a great job with a great company that actually takes care of their employees. And these loons spout RWNJ nonsense all the time, not realizing that what they enjoy as employees is not the norm in RWNJ-world. Drives them crazy.
But alas, my friend is retiring next year and they are retiring to – you won’t believe it – WEST VIRGINIA. They maintain it’s a small, pretty progressive college town, but still…….
As you know, 57, even a progressive college town isn’t enough when the state itself is regressive. Everything gets infected and the feeling of isolation is uncomfortable.
It’s a head scratcher to me, that’s for sure.
Oh no, how terrifying. Hope he wasn’t hurt, but what he must have saw must have been terrible. Not many people see what the after affects of a shooting are like. Maybe we should.
He was in a neighboring township, at a town meeting at the same time this nut job was shooting up another town meeting.
Terrifying, to be sure. The NRA and Republicans have effectively planted the notion that guns are the answer to any and all grumblings or disagreements you may have. It is abhorrent.
I love when the RWNJ’s talk about gang violence in the big cities (I live in Chicago), as if that happens in a vacuum. The social and economic problems, I won’t discuss. But I read a story this weekend that makes explained how this violence is a direct result of the NRA, who have fought any and all gun trafficking laws. Thus, our streets are better armed than most war zones.
Used to be, a bastard like George Zimmerman would at least get rounded up on a gun charge. Now, anyone can have a gun because FREEDOM or some such b.s. Same thing with gangs. You could round up the guns and the gun traffickers. Now it’s open season on the streets of America – and that includes the inner cities of large urban areas, and small townships in the Poconos.
Unbelievable.
I think we’re all in danger no matter where we live. Your analysis is right on. One more thing we must be vigilant about.
How Obama’s Putin Snub Is Playing Out in Russia
http://world.time.com/2013/08/08/how-obamas-putin-snub-is-playing-out-in-russia/
…The Russian reaction was perhaps most clear in the way that Vesti, the state’s main propaganda TV channel, conveyed it on the channel’s website. Buried about half way down on the page, underneath a story about Russian tourists in Turkey, Vesti announced: “The invitation for Obama stands.” Beside that was the somewhat diversionary headline: “Barack Obama will travel to St. Petersburg for the G20 summit.” The actual news — that Obama had decided not to meet with his Russian counterpart before, after or during the G20 summit in St. Petersburg next month — was clearly not something the official spin doctors wanted to advertise…
After a year spent honing their anti-American rhetoric — on issues ranging from the adoption of Russian children to missile defense in Europe and the civil war in Syria — the Kremlin message makers were suddenly eager to claim that President Vladimir Putin didn’t really mean for things to go this far….
Thanks for sharing.
Hey hey! Ernie Banks to get presidential honor
http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-ernie-banks-presidential-medal-20130808,0,3950497.story
Awriiight! Mr. Cub says “Let’s play two”. I love it.
Love Ernie Banks!
He was my fav after my no-one-can-top-him-as-hero Sandy Koufax.
Disappointed that the article didn’t mention *when* he will receive this honor.
But he looks very dapper in the accompanying photo. Glad to see him and am excited to see him in the White House!
One of my Fathers favorite players was Sandy Kolfax, the other Harmon Kilibrew. Actually met Mr. Kilibrew at at/speech. Took my boys and got him to sign a baseball for each of them.
Had to post this
Oh, my goodness, what a cutie. It’s always startling to see how tiny babies are when they’re wrapped up like this. And she has so much hair and they can already get a headband on her. Maven’s going to be a beauty.
That is a beautiful, precious, bundle of joy right there!
She looks like a little peanut! So adorable.
I posted this on the last thread, but it’s a great read and even greater news:
http://www.nationalmemo.com/carville-greenberg/why-seniors-are-turning-against-the-gop/#.UgN7UFNlcpV.twitter
Well, 57, now we’re going to see massive voter suppression against seniors in Republican states. You’ll have bullies at voting places stopping the walker and wheelchair crowd from entering the polls. You’ll have new requirements for extensive documentation proving that these seniors have actually been alive on this earth as long as they have. My favorite idiocy in the 2012 voter Id fiasco in PA was when the state required ‘expiration dates’ on retirement home ID cards. Really??? And who was going to determine those?
Unfortunately, yes. Sigh.
This is rather lengthy and I didn’t realize what women went through. Brutal to say the least……Why, ask why?
Subj: Never wax your Hoo-Ha
All
hair removal methods have tricked women with their promises of easy, painless
hair removal – The Epilady, scissors, razors, Nair and now….the wax. Read
on……….
My night began as any other normal weeknight. …Come home, fix dinner, play with the
kids.
I then had the
thought that would ring painfully in my mind for the next few hours: ‘Maybe I
should get the waxing kit from the medicine cabinet. So I headed to the site
of my demise: the bathroom.
It was one of those ‘cold wax’ kits. No
melting a clump of hot wax, you just rub the strips together in your hand,
they get warm and you peel them apart and press them to your leg (or wherever
else) and you pull the hair right off. No muss, no fuss. How hard can it
be?
I mean, I’m not
a genius, but I am mechanically inclined enough to figure this out. (YA
THINK!?!) So I pull one of the thin strips out. Its two strips facing each
other stuck together. Instead of rubbing them together, my genius kicks in so
I get out the hair dryer and heat it to 1000 degrees. (‘Cold wax,’
yeah…right!) I lay the strip across my thigh. Hold the skin around it tight
and pull.
It
works!
OK, so it
wasn’t the best feeling, but it wasn’t too bad. I can do this! Hair removal no
longer eludes me! I am She-rah, fighter of all wayward body hair and maker of
smooth skin Extraordinaire. With my next wax strip I move north. After
checking on the kids I sneak back into the bathroom for the ultimate hair
fighting championship. I drop my panties and place one foot on the
toilet…
Using the
same procedure, I apply the wax strip across the right side of my bikini line,
covering the right half of my hoo-ha and stretching down to the inside of my
butt cheek (it was a long strip).
I inhale deeply and brace myself….
RRRRIIIPPP!!!!
I’m
blind!!! Blinded from pain!!!!….. OH MY GAWD!!!!!!!!!
Vision returning, I notice that I’ve
only managed to pull off half the strip.
CRAP!
Another deep breath and RIPP! Everything
is spinning and spotted. I think I may pass out…. I must stay conscious….
I must stay conscious. Do I hear crashing drums??? Breathe, breathe…. OK,
back to normal.
I
want to see my trophy – a wax covered strip, the one that has caused me so
much pain, with my hairy pelt sticking to it. I want to revel in the glory
that is my triumph over body hair. I hold up the strip!
There’s no hair on it. Where is the
hair??? WHERE IS THE WAX???
Slowly I ease my head down, foot still
perched on the toilet. I see the hair. The hair that should be on the strip…
it’s not! I touch….I am touching wax. I run my fingers over the most
sensitive part of my body, which is now covered in cold wax and matted hair.
Then I make the next BIG mistake … Remember my foot is still propped upon
the toilet? So I put my foot down.
Sealed shut! My butt is sealed shut.
Sealed shut! I penguin walk around the bathroom trying to figure out what to
do and think to myself ‘Please don’t let me get the urge to poop….my head
may pop off!’
What
can I do to melt the wax? Hot water!! Hot water melts wax!! I’ll run the
hottest water I can stand in the bathtub, get in, immerse the wax-covered bits
and the wax should melt and I can gently wipe it off, right
???
*WRONG!!!!!!!*
I get in the tub – the water is slightly
hotter than that used to torture prisoners of war or sterilize surgical
equipment – I sit. Now, the only thing worse than having your nether regions
glued together, is having them glued together and then glued to the bottom of
the tub…..in scalding hot water. Which, by the way, does not melt cold
wax.
So, now I’m
stuck to the bottom of the tub as though I had cemented myself to the
porcelain!! God bless the man who had convinced me a few months ago to have a
phone put in the bathroom!!!!! I call my friend, thinking surely she has waxed
before and has some secret of how to get me undone. It’s a very good
conversation starter.
‘So, my butt and hoo-ha are glued
together to the bottom of the tub!’
There is a slight pause. She doesn’t
know any secret tricks for removal but she does try to hide her laughter from
me. She wants to know exactly where the wax is located, ‘Are we talking cheeks
or hoo-ha?’ She’s laughing out loud by now … I can hear her. I give her the
rundown and she suggests I call the number on the side of the box. YEAH!!!!!
Right!! I should be the joke of someone else’s night.
While we go through various solutions, I
resort to trying to scrape the wax off with a razor. Nothing feels better than
to have your girlie goodies covered in hot wax, glued shut, stuck to the tub
in super hot water and then dry-shaving the sticky wax off!! By now the brain
is not working, dignity has taken a major hike and I’m pretty sure I’m going
to need Post-Traumatic Stress counseling for this event.
My friend is still talking with me when
I finally see my saving grace…..the lotion they give you to remove the
excess wax. What do I really have to lose at this point? I rub some on and OH
MY GOD!!! The scream probably woke the kids and scared the dickens out of my
friend. It’s sooo painful, but I really don’t care.
‘IT WORKS!!
I get a hearty congratulation from my
friend and she hangs up. I successfully remove the remainder of the wax and
then notice to my grief and despair….THE HAIR IS STILL THERE…….ALL OF
IT!
So I recklessly
shave it off. Heck, I’m numb by now. Nothing hurts. I could have amputated my
own leg at this point.
Next week I’m going to try hair
color……how bad can that turn out???
It was painful to read. 😆 😆 😆 🙄
Thanks a lot sailor. Now I have to do another load of laundry. I just ran out of underwear!!!
Sorry ’bout that! 😆
That man has pickled his brain.
On whiskey or what ever he drinks.
Putin had every opportunity to work with President Obama on a wide range of issues, but since Putin thought it wise to try and disrespect President Obama at every turn, now Putin looks like some feckless county commissioner. The thought that some black guy can come to Russia and tell Putin he’s not interested in talking to him must drive Putin absolutely insane. Putin is about to learn a very expensive lesson that many have learned before him, that when it comes to dealing with President Obama, come correct or don’t come at all.
Probably patted himself on the back for his “brilliant geo-politcal” move. Now he got his feelings hurt because The President threw it right back in his face.
I wish the US would boycott Russia given its anti-gay laws. Putin is a despot.
Oh, Don, that was very well said, as usual. Perfect pitch. Almost stood up and cheered!
REPEAT AFTER ME: “THEY DID NOTHING”
The Democrats’ three-word slogan for 2014
by Messaging Matters
——————————————-
“They Did Nothing.” It’s that simple. The Republicans on the economy? “They did nothing.” On jobs? “They did nothing.” Rebuilding America’s crumbling roads and bridges to help businesses move their products? “They did nothing.” Immigration? “They did nothing.” Climate change? “They did nothing.” Bringing American jobs back home instead of shipping them overseas? “They did nothing.” Keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and the mentally ill? “They did nothing.”* The list goes on and on. And to be clear, the Democrats must articulate their positive agenda. In fact, President Obama has taken to the road to do just that. Saying the Republicans did nothing only makes sense if Democrats clearly explain what solutions they stand for and on which the Republicans should work, with some compromise and cooperation by both sides.

REPUBLICANS DID NOTHING BUT OBSTRUCT PROGRESS
http://warrencountydems.org/news/2013/8/7/they-did-nothing-republicans-did-nothing.html
Howdy TOD folks; no pretense at catching up here! Going to read this post and comments, then wait for the ‘news for the day’ review. Hope that attempted short cut will work for nosy little ole me. 😉
grrrrr…….
Floridians have a chance in 2014 to change their political governance. The need to seize the opportunity because it’s only going to get worse.
Exactly. Stop whining about Rethugs and VOTE THEM OUT! If Skeletor wins again in 2014, I’m writing Florida off. After the Stand Your Ground fiasco and the voting lines in 2012, it’s obvious that he’s no good for Floridians.
I’m 63, my husband is 73. I deal with a lot of seniors. And I’m effing sick to death that they are willing to believe fear and lies, and fight me tooth and nail when I tell them the truth about ACA. And I’m talking about Democrats!
I have been fighting this battle for the last 3 years and I really am sick of it. I’m happy to see that some seniors are finally seeing the light, but come on, people – take some responsibility for choosing fact over propaganda. And vote out the liars.
Live Now – President Obama is speaking: http://www.cbsnews.com/liveFeed/widget.shtml
What was POTUS speaking about?
President Barack Obama met with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras of Greece in the Oval Office of the White House August 8, 2013 in Washington, DC. Obama and Samras discussed a range of bilateral issues during their meeting. Photo here: http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Barack+Obama+President+Obama+Meets+Greek+Prime+d6k7FYVJJkYx.jpg
Great picture!
Chris Hayes must haz a sad….
That’ll teach them to make conference calls and talk smack about harming the US while President Obama (the one who got Osama) is in the White House!!!
Expect a lot of stupid questions featuring Putin and Snowden…and very little else.
Jay Leno’s interview of President Obama made the jackals and the mainstream media look like amateurs. I am constantly amazed at the stupid, tabloid, gotcha, snarky, sarcastic questions that are asked at the briefings. It’s hard to believe these glorified gossip columnists are getting paid six figures. It’s really embarrassing.
Today one jackals wanted to know how costs were broken down when President Obama goes on vacation. Imagine that. Jay said the costs are handled the same way they have been for previous presidents. Unbelievable.
Any guess what the topic is, dotster?
I think it’s just a general presser before he leaves for family vacation at Martha’s Vineyard.
Don’t know—HF has as good a guess as any—–being too good to WH “reporters”—-worthless babies
I keep telling folks that this is NOT going to be 2009-2010 redux…

Rand Paul Not So Good With Numbers
By Jonathan Chait
——————–
Josh Green asks Rand Paul about his rather extreme budget proposal, and Paul replies that it’s necessary because the only alternative is Trillion-Dollar Deficits As Far As the Eye Can See:
You know, the thing is, people want to say it’s extreme. But what I would say is extreme is a trillion-dollar deficit every year. I mean, that’s an extremely bad situation.
Some good news for Senator Paul — we’re not running a trillion-dollar deficit anymore. The deficit this year is forecast at $642 billion, per the Congressional Budget Office, which also forecasts the deficit to fall to $560 billion next year and $378 billion the following year.

Chris Hayes’ head to explode in 3…2…1…
Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can’t ride you unless your back is bent. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
Let’s talk about what should not be a funding source: Teachers. How dare Governor and the state legislature tie provisions for school funding to teacher concessions! How dare Dr. Hite conclude that the teachers need to sacrifice their already low pay and benefits in order for students to have enrichment activities, a rigorous curriculum, and adequately staffed schools! “Our teachers deal with enough and need to support their families. They shouldn’t have to give concessions for schools to open,” Dawn remarked
