With Sheldon backing Christie, you know it’s going to get exceptionally ugly among the ‘GOP contenders’ – even way beyond what we witnessed among those nutjobs during the 2012 primaries. 🙂
This is the Sheldon guy who was going to spend 10 million dollars to defeat President Obama. Okay Democrats in New Jersey, stop being fool by Christie, and stop supporting him. Use some darn sense, will you?
You won't regret this my friend….those laptops were worth it…..but don't try touching me…..we have laws http://t.co/vKzzsTHqlo— Jeff Gauvin (@JeffersonObama) August 01, 2013
Being in and from ‘Burque we are major Martin Heinrich supporters and fans! He’s kind of a mechanical engineer-nerd morphed into conscientious public servant. But I can’t purport to know him personally. Nice, under-stated guy, lovely wife…. young children…………. Oh NO!!!
Yes, he does meta. I love how Pete Souza takes his job so seriously.
“That’s another really great relationship.” So true. I was reading last night another beautiful article in ‘Rolling Stone’ with great comments about President Obama as stated by VP Biden. Really beautiful. Another great relationship. HZ
RT. Thank you Bobfr for all of the great tweets that you compose from your research and from words that so many of us are not able to compose. I appreciate you so much, Bobfr.
Watching this gentleman made me cry so hard. I see road that I travel over when I am out in my city,, and I break down and cry and even say some words that my parents would not be happy to hear, but they would be happy to know that I am trying to make a difference with my actions.
I live in a very “red” city with lots of President Obama’s haters. I have to watch myself because so many of the people are right up in my face. I have to speak and hold tight my tongue. However, I called our mayor and spoke with him and my city council members. And would you know, Gary Miller had the nerves to call my house this week. I called back and told him how I felt. Much work to get his behind out of office, for sure.HZ
You are an amazingly empathetic and dedicated citizen and supporter of our President Obama, HZ. Please know I have much admiration for you. It is because of individuals like you that America has a brighter and more just future, and I have no doubt that President Obama and First Lady Obama would see in you a true American patriot.
welp, I’m off to bed early today. just finished watching. Luther Season 1 & 2 marathon on Netflix. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Idris Elba as Luther is compelling and the whole thematics of the show is engrossing and eerie and very interesting and intense. Can’t wait for Season 3 on BBC Americ in September. Only complaint: do all British series tv shows have such short “seasons”??? the first one was 6 episodes. the 2nd was 4 and the 3rd will be only 4 as well. guess it does keep you wanting more.
I just “met” this Tweeter today, and I’m impressed. (I posted the second tweet on the previous thread, but it says so much, I’m posting it again… reminds me of @DeaconMill [japa21]… someone who can succinctly get to the core issue.)
Thanks for posting this. I cc:’d @Dreamdefenders on my TY tweet, just wanted to let those young adults in FL know that folks are joining in the action…
Thanks, Alycee. I believe so many more artists and citizens are going to do everything in their power to stand with these brave, bright, and unselfish young men and women.. Standing up for change and making a difference that will stand for centuries to come.HZ
I just watched Chris Hayes for the first time and I completely topped out on him in less than five minutes. Had to stop the video. What a colossal poser. UGH.
me too. I watched part of the tape on Snowden just to see the portion with the guest John whoever who is on Twitter that I follow. Hayes is a total poser; cannot STAAAAND the guy.
I can’t stand two seconds of him. I think it was Monday as I was changing the channel he was praising one of the tea party repugs for being sensible…..blah blah….and I changed the channel.
Hey, I thought I was one of only a few people who can’t stand Chris Hayes! He has such an “I know it all” attitude that it turns me off. Plus, I hate the way he always pretends that both parties are guilty of doing the same thing. Liars and lying turns me off. I love Martin Bashir because he tells it like it is and d@mn the consequences.
Granted the “Old School” tweet has been out longer so that might explain it somewhat but it has a ton more retweets than the others; which I find interesting. I think it’s because almost everyone can totally connect with him in this photo; a young person starting out on his own.
Yes, Indeed! I wasn’t born when FDR was president. I was born three months after Truman became president following FDR’s death in office. Since I was a child during Truman’s presidency I don’t intimately know much about his presidency, except what I’ve read. I vaguely remember Gen/President Dwight Eisenhower. I was nine years (almost ten) when Emmett Till was murdered and when his murders were acquitted, and I was eleven years (almost twelve) during the 1957 Little Rock crisis. I was a teenager when Eisenhower left office and JFK was elected President in 1960. So, my intimate knowledge of Presidents started with JFK. As far as I am concerned, President Obama is one of the best, if not the best, presidenst in my lifetime. In spite of all the relentless and vicious attacks, from both the GOP and the media, President Obama never lost his cool. For more than 41/2 years he has remained focused on improving the lives of ordinary Americans. And, along the way, with the help Speaker Pelosi and Majority leader Reid during his first two years in office,President Obama was able to pass important and historic legislations that will continue to benefit the lives of ordinary Americans long after he is no longer President.
Thank you so much HZ! It means so much to me to know that you agree with me about our great President! We too, the ordinary citizens, must raise and record our voices to counter the haters from the media and the GOP who are so determined to diminish the legacy of President Obama.
Please forgive my errors/typos! I just wanted to express the way I feel about President Obama. I never took time to edit. correct mistakes of what I wrote. I know many young people here like President Obama, I just wanted to say that if all of us oldies (that is senior citizens) were truly honest, we too would like this incredibly gifted, honest and humane person, who has done so much in the short time that he has been President of the United States. Here is a man who took over the presidency when the country was on the brink of total economic collapse while at the same time it was engaged in two overseas wars. As a result of his steady, no nonsense, resolve, and his deep faith in the American people, he saved the country from total economic collapse, extricated us from one war zone, and is busy winding down the other war zone. And he did all this in spite of the vicious opposition from both the spoiled right and the equally spoiled left who seemed hell bent on obstructing everything he did. I’ve challenged people in my age group to cite any other President who has been subjected to such relentless visceral hatred from both the right and the left. So far none have been able to do so.
Nath, there really are no words I can think of to describe how I feel about our POTUS. He WILL be regarded as one of the greatest presidents, and when his face is on Mt. Rushmore and RR’s is not, that will just be the icing on the cake. There is a perfect spot for him right next to Lincoln.
Very interesting reads, Ladyhawke. Thank you so much for sharing them. It’s really a crime what the Republicans in Congress are doing to this country. They would rather destroy the country than work with a duly elected President of the United States who happens to be Black. For those who needed proof, what the GOP members of Congress are doing, simply because they hate the idea of a black man as President, is unimpeachable proof of the irrationality of racism. I’ve yet to find a credible explanation, other than racism, why Republicans, and especially Republican members of Congress, passionately hate President Obama. By any objective standards, President Obama is the most gracious and accommodating President. He has gone out of his way to work with Republicans, even at the expense of pissing off the “holier than thou liberal/progressives” wing of his party. Yet the more he reaches out, the more Republicans respond by saying NO, NO, NO, to everything he proposes. If this is not about his race/color what is it about?
When I read comments or hear things about folks saying they “despise” him…to me, that says more about their state of mind, than anything the President is about.
I am so glad to see the faces of some of the most gifted writers (LL and Spandan) whose writings should be widely disseminated in order to save this country from the idiocy of the extreme right wingers and extreme left wingers. They all look so young. Goes to show that wisdom is not the monopoly of the old. To be honest, I am deeply embarrassed by people in my age group who appear to be the backbone of the GOP. That’s why I am so delighted to read sober and thoughtful commentaries from the young people at TOD. POU, and TPV.
– Upgrading the nation’s Medicare program and expanding it to cover people of all ages would yield more than a half-trillion dollars in efficiency savings in its first year of operation, enough to pay for high-quality, comprehensive health benefits for all residents of the United States at a lower cost to most individuals, families and businesses.
That’s the chief finding of a new fiscal study by Gerald Friedman, a professor of economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. There would even be money left over to help pay down the national debt, he said.
Friedman says his analysis shows that a nonprofit single-payer system based on the principles of the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act, H.R. 676, introduced by Rep. John Conyers Jr., D-Mich., and co-sponsored by 45 other lawmakers, would save an estimated $592 billion in 2014. That would be more than enough to cover all 44 million people the government estimates will be uninsured in that year and to upgrade benefits for everyone else.
“No other plan can achieve this magnitude of savings on health care,” Friedman said.
What a lovely gathering with a nice group of folks!!! Something tells me that LL is the gentleman with the white (or light blue) shirt on the far right 🙂
It becomes obvious why the media tends to ignore Sec Kerry – not wanting to verify that he will be the outstanding Sec of State during the Obama Presidency.
Good Nite TOD family. Thanks UT for all of the great contributions that you give all of us. We are so blessed to have all of the brilliant minds here and helping out so beautifully with our brilliant Chips.
Everyone, please have a lovely evening/morning. I am going to go downstairs and prepare the space for my new sofa-chair that I purchased this afternoon. A little cheering me up in getting ready for our celebration for our wonderful President. I had a great time picking the chair out, and I look forward to many wonderful evenings sitting in the chair as I read. Cozy, soft, and peaceful setting in my living room. I am naming this sofa chair, “My 44th POTUS.” It is lovely color and very lush and cozy. Delivery on Sat. Loving it.
(((((((((((((((((( Lots of hugs to Gobrooklyn, tnmtngirl, Vc, and Africa and hubby.))))))))))))))))))))) Loving thoughts to all of our TOD family members who may be a little tired and worn. Keep our president and his team in your thoughts and prayers. He loves our prayers, and comforting words. Nite everyone. HZ
{{{{{{{{{HZ}}}}}}}}} Your chair sounds like just what I need. My “old faithful” may soon need replacing. Enjoy the cozy, soft & peaceful & if you haven’t read it yet – download the Kindle interview from Amazon – lovely chat with PBO – good reading in that chair.
Well said 99ts! And, just in case the media forgets, Sec. John Kerry was selected by President Obama. The media will do all they can to credit John Kerry while denigrating the President. We must not let the get away with that! If President Obama was not re-elected, John Kerry would not be Secretary of State. PERIOD!
I doubt the media will talk much about either of them nath – too interested in talking about the Clintons. PBO and Sec Kerry, however, will achieve more over the next 3 years than all the achievements in the first administration. When the politics of elections are past – the real work can be done.
Absolutely gorgeous, Bob! I was last in Seattle in 1979, but I used to go there regularly during the 60s when I was in Oregon. I love your city. I love the people in Seattle, who are, undoubtedly, the most friendly and forward looking people. I have a grand nephew in Seattle who just graduated from college. I feel so bad that I was not able to come to his graduation thought I had planned to. My niece (his mom) really loves Seattle.
This morning there is a story in the WaPo about libertarian democrats needing a leader. This is what frustrates me about Democrats. They work to destroy themselves. At a time when the party should be working to get the ACA fully implemented, the white males who feel neglected because they are not the center of attention, are now working to destroy the party.
Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid need to reign in these idiots and their NSA hysteria. Let the libertarian crybaby white males further destroy the repubs. Democrats need to stand united behind the President in getting the most important legislation of this century fully implemented.
There is no such thing as a “Libertarian Democrat” Libertarians are Republicans. If Romney were President you would not hear a peep from them about “needing a leader.”
Can you please retweet, share on facebook and/or email this information to friends and family. The march is only 3 weeks away and a really big turnout is essential.
Groups go door-to-door to encourage enrollment in Obamacare
Over the weekend, more than 100 volunteers with Enroll America knocked on about 4,000 doors around the state.
Among the volunteers was Botero, who carried a list of names and addresses generated by a “microtargeting” tool developed by Enroll America, the biggest nonprofit working on Obamacare enrollment. The organization, using census data, commercially available consumer databases and demographic information such as age, race and income, developed a formula to determine the likelihood that someone is uninsured.
It’s certainly the GOP’s fault that it hasn’t fallen to 5%. Funny about their jobs legislation that was promised in 2010 & still hasn’t been seen in congress.
Howdy O’s!!!! Wassup on this great getting up day on TOD Avenue?
Unemployment rate drops to 7.4%, but job growth less than expected at 162,000 in July. Job growth for June revised down as well. However, contrary to what Carl Rove and the dumbnuts think, Ohio was called correctly and PBO lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
G’morning Cookemom. LOL! Indeed. All in all, not a bad jobs report. Normally job growth tends to slow down in the summer when employers are on vacation and not really hiring. Once business picks up we will see some movement again. Also, the GOP has not lifted a finger for jobs since they promised in 2010. And they are doing all they can to impede job growth, by blocking PBO’s jobs bills, creating sequester, etc. So they need to be held accountable as well.
I heard a rwnj pundit say that 7.4% isn’t good and at least when it was higher, it meant people were out looking for jobs. Excuse me, but weren’t they crossing their fingers for a high unemployment number each month during the election for just the opposite reason? It kills me how they can do that with a straight face.
Another good note, even with sequester in place the government actually added jobs. The first time in years. Sequester contracted GDP to 1.7%. It would be slightly more than 2% had sequester not happened.
Repubs think that the real Americans don’t know why things aren’t better.
On Saturday, August 24, 2013 we will gather at 8AM at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC to stand together against the recent attack on voter rights, against Stand Your Ground and racial profiling, and to continue to raise awareness on unemployment, poverty, gun violence, immigration, gay rights and other critical issues affecting our nation. 50 years ago when we marched on Washington it was an historic event that lead to the passage of the very civil rights legislation that ended Jim Crow and began the modern era of civil rights. It brought us our dignity, our humanity and our march to realize the dream that so many had given their lives for.
50 years later we need you as much as we did in 1963. Today, the first African American President in the history of our nation sits in the White House. That would not have been possible without the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The Supreme Court in the final days of its term this year has struck down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act and thereby have place our right to vote in jeopardy. We must turn out by the hundreds of thousands in Washington DC on August 24th and we need your financial commitment to ensure our success.
This past weekend we held vigils in 100 cities across the nation for Trayvon Martin. These vigils were a huge success because of all of you. Now, it is critical that we harness this heightened awareness of our collective strength to sustain a movement.
Your support will help us to cover increased costs to make August 24th a huge success. Support the March by making a donation to the National Action Network. Your support will ensure that our voices are heard as we continue to realize the dream of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.
Your donation can be made online or by mailing a check or money order to:

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Look at that:) Congrats on your quick fingered first place….the Colbert video was hilarious:)
Yep. Loved that video!!!
With Sheldon backing Christie, you know it’s going to get exceptionally ugly among the ‘GOP contenders’ – even way beyond what we witnessed among those nutjobs during the 2012 primaries. 🙂
I know. We laugh, put there’s really something very pathetic about this BS. Reduced to a 2 bit carnival…not worthy of high public office.
I love Colbert. He is hysterical — the audience doesn’t have to be an East Coast Jewish elite (aka Jon Stewart) to get his jokes.
Colbert is still funny even if you know absolutely zero about politics
Colbert encouraged the used of this Twitter #hashtag:

Bobfr may have a twitter relationship with the bigs, but I can banter with one of your local journalists:
there is nothing even remotely hot about Flake. Nothing.
Uhhh.
What are your thoughts about your neighboring Senator Heinrich? He’s got the right credentials (D-NM), not (R-AZ).
(Straight female here, asking from a state with two female Senators.)
Whoa, is that Senator Heinrich?
Martin Heinrich is THE definition of GQ, but the beltway have eyes only for media dahlings.
Wow! I hope his heart is as his looks! will be keeping an eye out for his actions & policy positions
Here’s another photo, from yesterday:

Does the Belt way remember Scott Brown….I guess not…..hahAHAHAHAHAHA…..they are so fickle.
EXCELLENT!
Vladimir Putin IS a joke 🙂
I LOVE these photos. Malia was just an adorable child in her father’s arms!
Oh they were always special. Amazing couple!

Here ya go. It’s linked in the tweet from Spandan (TPV)
Fabulous! Thanks, zizi….there’s our guy!
Wow, that is pretty close to how I imagined LL!! Awesome!!
Is it? I had him not so slight…a little huskier, I have no idea why….handsome AND smart. Can’t beat that!
I used to be a lot huskier. I’ve dropped from 181 to 165.
Is that as a result of changing your diet because of your wife’s surgery? Well done!
She can’t really eat carbs, so I don’t cook starch for dinner. Weight dropped as a result.

One day….
Night everyone….
My dinner tonight:
LL, are you the gentleman with the blue plaid shirt? So nice you could get together.
No that’s KeithinOhio. Handsome LL is next to him in the gray shirt.
Nope, I’m the one on the far right.
really?
What a lovely gathering with a nice group of folks!!! Something tells me that LL is the gentleman with the white (or light blue) shirt on the far right 🙂
All right all, I have a bellyful of two excellent martinis and a wonderful London broil. I’m off to bed. See everyone tomorrow.
Seems like all enjoyed the party – zizi found the picture above 🙂

It becomes obvious why the media tends to ignore Sec Kerry – not wanting to verify that he will be the outstanding Sec of State during the Obama Presidency.
Indeed 99ts.
I love my town ….
… time for some rest …
#FORWARD Together
Hello Ron Wyden? How did he get a Chairmanship?
There is no such thing as a “Libertarian Democrat” Libertarians are Republicans. If Romney were President you would not hear a peep from them about “needing a leader.”
Good Morning TOD. Happy Friday.
Can you please retweet, share on facebook and/or email this information to friends and family. The march is only 3 weeks away and a really big turnout is essential.
DD4O, good morning.
Thank you for the info. I will be there!
Good reminder — bring your comfortable walking shoes. 🙂

Kind of a throwback… 🙂
Get that bottle out your ear this instant, young man!! 🙂
It’s certainly the GOP’s fault that it hasn’t fallen to 5%. Funny about their jobs legislation that was promised in 2010 & still hasn’t been seen in congress.
I haven’t heard a SINGLE person in the media take the GOP to task for this. Not one. #shameful.
In trollspeak 7.4% is actually 16%. I wonder if the FoxBots and GOTPs know what UE was under bush when it went up to 7.8?
Time to manufacture another scaMdal! 🙂
Ha!!! scaMdal! 🙂
Trouble in paradise!
The asylum is up for grabs and we can’t tell which ones are the inmates, except Ted Cruz is the designated crazy critter in charge.
Exactly!
Hard to face the reality of a woman wanting to represent the GOP.
So, Miss Lindsey gets to run against a REAL woman. Good luck with that!
The nerve of that Obama tyrant. How dare he improve the economy and help people get jobs and stuff! Harumph!!
Your words are a joy to read – every one of the getting up days
Alrighty then!
