I was just polled by Rasmussen. Concerning the VA governors race. (Remember, we kept our Vonage VA number that rings on our TN number. I love it when I get these calls and can pretend I am a VA resident. I know…..it’s not right, but I do it anyway.) 🙂 Lots of questions. The thing that irked me and I wanted to scream into the phone “DemocrATIC” candidate. Every time, she said “Democrate candidate”. Oh well, they won’t like my answers so guess we’re even.

“I know…..it’s not right, but I do it anyway.”
      I say “F’em” :).
Also, when the poll taker kept saying Democrat candidate, I would have said, “Well, i’m referring to the DemoCRATIC candidate.” or whatever context the question was in.
Just respond in kind with the correct word :).

    I love Football…..US style. I cheer for 4 teams.

Eagles. Tampa Bay Bucs. Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers.

And today….this video of Riley Cooper….is truly sad…..using racial slur. 68% of the NFL players are African Americans. This guy is asking to be seriously hurt….especially for a Wide Receiver.

He has apologized after this tape was made public today. He is being fined.

    His playing days……..well…..he went racial.

Should be interesting to see Mr. Cooper get his first good hit from one of those “N” players.

  14. July 31, 2013 at 8:59 pm

This morning my local all-news radio station @knx1070 was interviewing old-time Dodgers (don’t know why, caught only the end of the segment), Steve Garvey, Maury Wills, etc.

Maury said when he started with the Dodgers (having moved up from minor league bb) in 1959, he was paid the minimum MLB salary: $4,000 — according to usinflationcalculator.com, that translates to $32,100 in 2013 dollars. He said the World Series check in 1963 was $10K or $12K ($96K in 2013).

So yeah, let’s talk about income inequality, or how the rich get richer.

I’ve complained before about how Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale were vilified by the press for holding out for $100K in the mid-1960s (less than $1m/year in 2013). I know pro-athletes have a short career and deserve high salaries, but not the megamillions the cry babies these days make.

  15. July 31, 2013 at 9:03 pm

    Yes!

Let’s see some positive action on this please!

“On Thursday, Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-NY), Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Sen. Chris Murhpy (D-CT), and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), plan to introduce the Supreme Court Ethics Act of 2012 that would force the high court to adopt an ethics code much like the one that binds lower court judges. The idea has support from legal scholars, who’ve been urging the court to adopt such a code since last year. More than 125,000 people have signed a petition calling on Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. to apply the Code of Conduct to the court. But Roberts has been pretty adamant that he thinks the justices are perfectly capable of policing themselves without the need for silly codes (codes which most of the sitting justices once had to abide by on a lower court)…”

It’s about time! Both Scalia and Thomas have engaged in questionable practices such as attending heavily partisan gatherings of right wing advocacy groups who advocate for issues likely to come before the Court.

As part of my job once, I had to take a photo of a Marine and his wife at his retirement ceremony. Oops – didn’t properly pose the shot, and the wife’s head was in front of a round plaque on the wall, making it look as though she had a halo in the picture. Said to myself Oh no it looks as though she has a halo in the picture. A couple of weeks later, at another event, ran into said Marine and wife, and the wife said to me Loved the photo where it looked as though I had a halo in the picture. (Luckily, she laughed about it!)

Dudette, stop it! You always find these things that have me shaking my head or going off in a trance. Of course I spent the last 10 minutes in a daze going down the pics at the site until I shook my head just now and hurriedly left. You are a bad influence in so many ways..

I am doing well. Things have calmed down on the family scene and we are now going moment to moment. Offspring finishes his final exam for summer school tomorrow, so I suppose I’ll plan a few days out of town for both of us, if I can (since he asked).

Am I the only one counting the days left so that I can enroll in ObamaCare??

Hey “blog tyrants”, may be TOD can have a countdown clock to open enrollment in ObamaCare.

For a number of people this ObamaCare timeline is also a symbol of potential life and death prospects as they get a new lease on life & protection from abusive insurance companies

I went to @ChrisLHayes and was greeted with Greenwald saying he’s on Chris’ show tonight.

I don’t watch Hayes, but JHC could he give it a rest with that venomous, hateful Greenwald.

Hayes’ ratings need to tank to the point that MSNBC has no choice but to replace him.

MSNBC needs to understand that you don’t have to be a Brooklyn hipster to appeal to young viewers across the country.

I absolutely LOVED Joy Reid on @Lawrence last night. I pulled the transcript, but I think they fudged and didn’t include everything she said.

    Here’s a portion:
    http://www.nbcnews.com/id/52630853/ns/msnbc/#.UfmWntK-qfY
O`DONNELL: Joy Reid, there is a campaign sound to that part of the
    speech.

REID: There`s a campaign sound. I like jaded Obama. I think a jaded
Obama is the Obama that I am rooting for at this point, because jaded Obama
doesn`t say things like, you know, I believe if we just put our nose to the
wheel that we can get this job done with Congress. He says, no, Congress
is trying to repeal Obamacare 40 times.

He recognizes what`s happening and he is recognizing that we recognize
it. And I think Eugene is right. As these bills going forward, what he
then needs to say is, we need 17 seats in the House of Representatives to
get things through, let`s have that in 2014.

    • July 31, 2013 at 10:20 pm

      The President is not jaded

      • 99 Dudette
        July 31, 2013 at 10:26 pm

I saw that and thought the same thing. Nothing about this man says “jaded”. He’s brilliant & resilient. He’s using every arrow in his quiver to do the things we put him there to do, with or without Congress. I say “Bravo Mr. President, keep on keeping on!!”

Live coverage from Minneapolis tonight. The same sex marriage law goes into effect August 1st. R. T. Rybak will be performing a wedding tonight at midnight. Celebrations will be going on at city hall tonight.

I was watching Rybak introduce Dayton. The governor may not be the most charismatic guy in the country but I’m very grateful to him. For a while he was the only one standing guard against the right wingers. We would have had a version of the stand your ground law here if the governor had signed it but it was vetoed. I believe that without him we would have gone the way of Wisconsin.
It’s nice that we have something good to celebrate now and such a relief to have a Dem congress and Senate. I heard that the people who worked on marriage equality might take up the cause of increasing the minimum wage now that they have achieved this.
