White House: The World Series Champion San Francisco Giants Visit The White House

The San Francisco Giants visited the White House today to celebrate winning the 2012 World Series championship, their second in three years.

President Obama welcomed the team back to Washington and congratulated them – celebrating their resilience throughout the season. “This team faced elimination a total of six times in the playoffs,” the President said. “It’s no wonder that your own fans still refer to Giants baseball as torture.”

The President also highlighted a Giants’ initiative close to First Lady Michelle Obama’s heart – encouraging healthy eating. “I’m proud to announce that next season they’re planning to turn the centerfield bleachers at AT&T Park into what’s believed to be the first ever edible garden in a major American sports facility. With rows of kale and strawberries and eggplant, the Giants are going to help encourage local youth to eat healthy — even at the ballpark.”

Bleacher Report: San Francisco Giants Visit President Barack Obama At The White House

After winning their second World Series title in three years last fall, the San Francisco Giants visited President Barack Obama at the White House to celebrate the achievement on Monday afternoon.

The team’s official Twitter account snapped a photo of the team during its dress rehearsal for the ceremony

It was not lost on the team at the ceremony that President Obama won something for the second time last year too, just over a week after the Giants wrapped up the title, as he was reelected President of the United States.

What become of the gifts POTUS is given? Will they be put in his library or what? I missed most of the event, but I’m glad to see Willie Mays. Mr. Giant.

    • July 29, 2013 at 6:10 pm

Anniebelle, I’m not sure, but if it’s under a certain amount of $ they can keep it without reporting. Somewhere around 50-100 $. If it’s over that, they can keep it if they pay taxes. There’s more to it, but generally I think it does go to Library.

    Whoa Nelly! http://thinkprogress.org/home/2013/07/29/2373831/pennsylvania-governor-gifts-corbett/

Gov. Tom Corbett (R-PA) campaigned for his office pledging to prohibit gifts to government officials from those seeking state contracts. But his own financial disclosures show he accepted thousands of dollars worth of gifts from friends who could benefit from his position.

Another crook and liar! VA AND PA….get rid of them. AND the losers that support them!

      July 29, 2013 at 9:37 pm

Df, we’re doing everything in our power to make Corbett a one term governor–something that rarely happens in PA. We’ve got to endure him for another year, but a lot of good candidates are stepping forward. At our local fair our “One-Term Tom” buttons are going like hotcakes.
VA gets their chance at a new governor this November, since the state only allows one term and the election is in an off-year. There’s a lot at stake in VA this Nov.

Isn’t this about time DF? I heard about this on the radio driving home from work I think if I remember right I heard them say that they are missing a land mass at the end of the Mississippi the size of the state of Delaware (is that right? I think so) It was just enormous.

Still busy being the lying fuck knuckle that he is

First, Romney blamed his initial botched response to the video—his bungled, impromptu press conference the night Mother Jones released the video—on a misperception of what was on the video:

[Romney] was in California and said at first he couldn’t get a look at the video. His advisers were pushing him to respond as quickly as he could. “As I understood it, and as they described it to me, not having heard it, it was saying, ‘Look, the Democrats have 47 percent, we’ve got 45 percent, my job is to get the people in the middle, and I’ve got to get the people in the middle,'” he said. “And I thought, ‘Well, that’s a reasonable thing.’… It’s not a topic I talk about in public, but there’s nothing wrong with it. They’ve got a bloc of voters, we’ve got a bloc of voters, I’ve got to get the ones in the middle. And I thought that that would be how it would be perceived—as a candidate talking about the process of focusing on the people in the middle who can either vote Republican or Democrat. As it turned out, down the road, it became perceived as being something very different.”

Whoa. He first thought the video only showed him stating the obvious? That Obama had his voters, Romney had his supporters, and the small percentage in between was up for grabs? Well, that would have hardly caused a fuss. But here’s what doesn’t track: When the video was posted, an article accompanied the video with a transcript of what Romney had said. Anyone with a smart phone could access the video and the transcript of his remarks, in which he stated:

Then the thinking, listening people of America know what he said! Still trying to rewrite history….

He was simply denigrating those who are poor – because that’s what the right wanted him to do. Lay down with dogs – get up with fleas – Romney went far right to win the primary – no morals at all – none – what a great Church leader he turned out to be.

GM, Jessica. Easy isn’t always best. I can’t think of anything that would balance that kind of exposure! With her brains I feel sure he could find a better, more ‘child friendly’ way to pay for private school,, etc. In fact, I’d be surprised if he couldn’t find some kind of scholarship somewhere. IMHO a reality show would be exploitation, or even ‘abuse’.

JP MorganChase manipulated power markets in California and the Midwest from September 2010 to June 2011, obtaining tens of millions of dollars in overpayments from grid operators, the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission alleged today.
The agency said in a Notice of Alleged Violations that it had preliminarily determined a JPMorgan trading unit had engaged in eight manipulative bidding strategies.

The New York-based bank has agreed to sanctions including a fine of about $400 million in a settlement that may be announced as early as tomorrow, according to a person familiar with the case who asked not to be identified because the terms aren’t yet public. Other sanctions may include forfeiting profits, this person said.

I try not to hate them, too. Sometimes I fail miserably – but we should only waste our energy on that feeling for a moment or two and then move forward. Otherwise, they win and we become like them! (I know you know this already, of course.)

Heard on Chgo news about another tragic shooting—-3 yr. old girl shot in the abdomen about an hour ago. 33 yr. old man also shot in same incident. So enraging. As has been noted, if anything other than guns was mutilating and killing our kids at this same rate, there would be an emergency summit with heaven and earth moved to stop this horrific insanity.

Hello there, Hf! I was beginning to wonder if some of the regulars had gone away with the BTs on a retreat or something. Isn’t it ‘funny’ how you all slow down at the same time, so we go from overlapping postings to virtual desertion? Good thing Utal looks in from time to time to check the temperature of the village and turn up the thermostat.
