Some Light Relief: Back in April…

Whyyyyyyyyy on earth, I hear you ask, are we getting a post of photos from the WHCD when it took place as long ago as flippin’ April? Well, I only found these today – hey, better late than never, right? We’ve seen same/similar before, but there were a few new to me, so feast your eyes.

You can see them all here – but they have no captions, so I have no clue who some of the people are in a few of the pics near the bottom of the post.

President Henry …. what a lovely thought 😕

A kiss from General Ray Odierno:

I don’t mean to be unkind – well, I do – but I always think if you morphed Laurel and Hardy in to one, you’d get Ed Henry:

Look out Pete Souza, someone’s after your job:

I knew Nicole Kidman was tall, just not this tall:

… with Conan O’Brien and his wife Liza Powel:

Oh gaaaaaawd, the Huffy person:

That’s quite a dress……

Oh my:

This is yet another moment when America should take stock of where the power structures are leading us, how they play on our fears — fan our fears — to feed their fortunes……. On no subject is this more clear than on the subject of guns.

While it is proper and necessary to analyze the case in which George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin for what it says about profiling and police practices, it is possibly more important to analyze what it says about our increasingly vigilante-oriented gun culture.
The industry and its lobby have successfully pushed two fallacies: that the Second Amendment is under siege and so are law-abiding citizens.

They endlessly preach that more guns make us safer and any attempt at regulation is an injury to freedom. And while the rest of us have arguments about Constitutional intent and gun-use statistics, the streets run red with the blood of the slain, and the gun industry laughs all the way to the bank.

In addition to his humour, PBO has so much to teach/model for other Black* leaders about motivating (Black) youth. Actually, if more of them would watch, listen and emulate instead of critiquing (thinking of his most media “famous” detractors here), they’d learn a lot. Where did this come from? Oh, I was struck by a comment CC made beneath a posted picture in Rise & Shine, and the undoubted influence it will have on the mind and life of the young man in question.

“President Obama stood there with us, talked for about three minutes, he remembered Tyren and signed an 11 x 14 picture of their first encounter.”

When some of his crazed critics ask what has PBO done for the Black community it’s obvious they do not take into account simple yet vital examples like this one, and the myriad of examples of PBO and FLOTUS healing, loving, helping the BC one individual (x the family & community watching) at a time.

    * – I included ‘Black’ only because that is current discussion out there

    • July 25, 2013 at 12:54 pm

I do not believe that there are loads of Black people who dislike President Obama. They’ve voted for him in overwhelming percentages twice, so I would ignore the media hyping of the few disgruntled Blacks who run around asking “what has he done for me lately?” President Obama has done the Black race proud (ditto his wife and daughters).

Hi Pkay. I know, from what my eyes have seen (I travel a lot with the President 😉 😉 ) that PBO is well-loved, so I did not mean to imply that ‘ loads of …..dislike…’ My comment was meant to highlight the fact that PBO connects a lot at the personal level. – he has a marvelous character – and this IMO has been impacting the Black community positively whether his detractors acknowledge this or not.

NONE DARE CALL IT SABOTAGE…. (November 20, 2010)

    By Steve Benen (Washington Monthly)

If that’s the case, though, then it’s time for a very public, albeit uncomfortable, conversation. If a major, powerful political party is making a conscious decision about sabotage, the political world should probably take the time to consider whether this is acceptable, whether it meets the bare minimum standards for patriotism, and whether it’s a healthy development in our system of government.

And finally, let’s also not forget that the sabotage-governing strategy is not the radical vision of the fringe; it’s the official position of the elected Republican leadership in both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. No further proof of the radicalization of GOP politics in the Obama era should be necessary.

A variety of adjectives come to mind to describe Republican efforts on this issue, but as this is a family blog, “contemptible” is as good a word as any.
