Hi all
Congrats Ann_T! Long no see!
Sweet round-up UT!
We are rhyming here, see?
Oh Fake Dr. Jill Biden you seeker of Endless Fun you! 🙂
oh and UT great post!! 😀
4 new tires, new spark plugs, an alignment, and a fuel system cleaning having been completed, the family vehicle is ready for travel from the Sonoran to the So Cal coast for family hi-jinx. It’s time to start loading the iPod up for proper tuneage as we travel!
Don’t forget food, drink and some clean clothes. 🙂 🙂 Enjoy your road trip!!!
When we get to S.D. we are going to upset cardiologists everywhere and eat at Slater’s 50/50. We saw it on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. All of the burger patties are made of 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon! Mmmm…. bacon….
I offered to choose my wife’s ensembles for the trip. Strangely, she has rejected the offer. 🙂
I was TDY at Ellsbury AFB for 1 year in Rapid City SD! Love it there, so pretty!
See the black hills and Mt Rushmore!
Oops! S.D. was intended to mean San Diego. We’re going to spend a day at a hotel on the beach and then surprise the crumb snatchers with trip to Legoland for 2 days!
I was also at Miramar for a bit, San Diego is pretty too, good weather year round.
🙂
I can’t wait to get some ocean time in San Diego. This Arizona stuff isn’t for me. I’ve been here 12 years, but the moment I’ve got my ducks in a row to my liking I am moving to the ocean.
LOL! Well you have to live it up every now and then. Can’t be eating broccoli and whole grain cereal everyday. You’re a good sport lockewasright. Enjoy the fast food at Slaters, and I think I will agree with your wife’s decision for now. 🙂 🙂
Truth be told, I eat a pretty… um… less than healthy diet. I just love to cook. I hickory smoke ribs, make potato swiss and bacon chowder with heavy cream, put six cheeses and sage sausage in my lasagna, and shrimp sausage and chicken in my jambalaya. I’m a foodie. Plus, my wife decorates cakes, so there’s always a new recipe for cake or frosting, or some technique that she’s trying out. I’ve been exercising more though!
Hmmm…You must be an avid Food Network viewer then. 🙂
She watches a lot of cake decorating shows. I like Triple D. I’d rather listen to my iTunes library and browse cooking web sites though. I like to look up several versions of a dish and then sort of Frankenstein my own version and/or add a twist.
Hey lockwasright — oh my goodness, that sounds delicious! All things in moderation, and as you said — EXERCISE! Drink LOTS of water too…flushes out the system very well.
Maybe soon, you will have HSR in that area?
Have they started building that yet?
They have not, and the prospects are still up in the air. At any rate, when it is built the first line will be from L.A. to S.F.
I would love to be able to get to S.F. by only driving to L.A.! I really enjoyed both of the visits I’ve made there.
Safe travels! Long ass ride through the desert, you’ll be glad you did all that car stuff:) Have fun and enjoy the weather! Bring a jacket (hoodie!) you know how we desert rats freeze at night over there:)
I suspect Thing 1 and Thing 2 will sleep through a lot of the trip on the way out and I will get to listen to some tunes and chew the fat with my wife and just relax. I’m definitely bringing a windbreaker. After taking the crumb snatchers to the beach and finding some seafood for dinner, I intend to watch the sun go for a swim with a cold pilsner in my hand.
It’s been surprisingly cool here this week.
I’m near the Reagan Library, and I think the high was 73F (it’s 71F now).
No complaints here (I don’t like hot weather myself), but it won’t be like vacationing in FL (something Ohioans are sure to knnow something about).
Lifelong SoCalifornian who grew up in the San Diego area. Hope you enjoy your vacation!
Thanks!
We used to joke at the temple where my family went in Columbus about central Florida being a retirement home for jews from Ohio.
Mid 70s would be fantastic! It’s been at least 108 and probably in the hundred and teens for ever here it seems.
Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaab round-up UT, thank youuuuuuuuu legend!
LMAO!
I howled Hopefruit, that account gets me every time!!! Always a “huh?!” followed by: 😆
Indeed chips..the first time I read her which was over a yr ago, I was completely fooled – not to mention thoroughly confused about Dr. Jill’s priorities…. HAHAHAHahahaha!
that was funny as heck. lolol Love VPOTUS and VPFLOTUS
The only thing I would say about the GOP is, IF they were responsible and cared about the Federal Government then they would ACT accordingly.
Maybe they know they can’t win the WH bc of demographics?
Maybe they know in 20 years they will be a WHIG party?
So, like all wounded Animals they’re the most dangerous. And if they just want to take down the US Government and start over, what better way than to default on the nations debt and shut down the Government for months?
Still think they won’t do it?
Are you that sure?
These guys are crazed and desperate, and will do anything.
My point is, 15 months from now, we can all vote them out!
That’s the only power we have!!!
Watched the President’s speech in Galesburg. It was just right. Sensible plans, just the beginning of what he’s going to propose and do. Always love it when he brings the speech home to the specific location, like he did by quoting Carl Sandburg’s very appropriate poetry. What I do love about PBO is that when he quotes poetry, he knows and understands what he’s saying, and it sounds comfortable coming from him.
Also, when I hear the Republican congresscritters making all sorts of threats about doing away with Obamacare, or killing the government, etc. I know that there are two houses of Congress. The Senate would never pass such a bill, and I doubt Harry Reid would even let it come up. And, of course Barack Obrama is still president and he will veto any such bill. They are like two year olds throwing tantrums. I get my way, or I’ll hold my breath, throw myself on the floor and kick. Let them. Newt Gingrich tried this gambit in 1994, and it killed the Republican party’s election, and got him booted out, for that and other reasons.
The more they throw a tantrum, the more the American public won’t tolerate it any more. I believe 2014 will be an even bigger shock to them than “that one” who lost in 2012. I have to say, I can not imagine that they aren’t aware of how screwed they are.
The President likes it, so it must be good?
President Obama is the worst nightmare the plutocrats & their #GOP minions could ever imagine having – and that nightmare is what they are going to be living, not just dreaming, for the next 1276 days ….
#TrustBarack The steamroller gives you two options – climb on board or become part of the pavement ….
And the steamrolling has begun Bobfr 🙂
Big time, Gail, big time 🙂
ON BOARD and ready to go!
You can see the heart-wrenching sadness and pain just gushing out from Trayvon’s dad. He in particular seems to be harboring a lot of guilt on account of not being able to be there for his son…the advocacy work that he’s doing will help him heal, fortunately.
I don’t know how Tracy Martin summons the fortitude to do this. If it were my son I would be screaming to the rafters and trying to strangle anyone who said a disparaging word about my child. He’s either a person of very deep faith or has a place where he can scream when the pain becomes too deep. Can’t say how much I admire both of these parents. They have a dignity most people can’t hope to achieve. God bless them in this long and terrible journey.
Sad. Hope the people of Detroit and all Michiganders fight this.
Those who are in a position to help Detroit have moved outside the city limits into the suburbs and have closed their blinds. My heart weeps for what was once the Mighty Motown City.
A House Republican working on immigration reform called out a top adviser to President Barack Obama as a “demagogic, self-serving political hack.”
It started when earlier Tuesday White House senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer tweeted an editorial piece from La Opinion, saying the article “nails the cruel hypocrisy of the GOP immigration plan:allow some kids to stay but deport their parents.”
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the chairman of the House subcommittee that oversees immigration, wasn’t too happy with that comment.
“He summarized this entire debate with that tweet,” Gowdy said in the final minutes of a House hearing on young undocumented immigrants.
Directing his comments toward one of the witnesses for the hearing, Gowdy added: “I want to compliment and thank you for not being a demagogic self-serving political hack who can’t even be elected to a parent advisory committee much less Congress, which is what Mr. Pfeiffer is.”
Nice Bob!
🙂
You’re right, Bob. This was a compliment to Pfeiffer. Gowdy was “hit” and he struck back like a playground bully.
The true irony of this is that the most idiotic, heartless, uninformed, inarticulate bozos get elected to Congress, but it takes real intelligence and an a superb background to chosen as a senior advisor to the president.
Pure projection!
Wow, just got a look at Mr. Gowdy — I think he’s got Rand Paul beat in the “GOoPer with the weirdest hair” contest.
Honest Question: Which would you rather do, eat spinach alone for breakfast lunch & dinner for an entire weekend, or spend an entire weekend holed up in a small apartment with two anti-PBO emoprogs?
I love spinach.
LOL…You are VERY slick….you, miss meta…btw I love spinach too.
Heh. Seriously, though. I spent a day last week with an emoprog and it was absolute torture. No can do. Life is too short.
I love spinach too. Even as a child, I loved spinach .. and all greens. My mother was thrilled.
Here too, daisydem — loved broccoli, spinach, asparagus…all the things other kids usually can’t stand.
I’d be damned glowing after eating spinach for two days.
And that’s not a bad thing at all – if someone tells you that you have a glow – they’re complimenting you! 🙂
Score so far:
Spinach – 3
Emoprogs -0
Oooohhhhh, give me spinach – I love spinach, cooked, not cooked!
Alright! Nothing to bring GGail out of lurkdom like a discussion on her favorite food – spinach.
Spinach – 4
Emoprogs – 0. 🙂
I come back and see lots of comment about spinach and I say to myself: “Huuuuuuuuuh?!”
Look what you started Hopefruit!! 😆
Yup -we seem have a lot of spinach lovers here at TOD. I’m finding out for the first time….
Spinach for a week to avoid exposure to even 5 min of emoprog plague …
OH LAWD! HAHAHAHAhahahahaha. 🙂 🙂
Ok- another spinach lover.
Who would you rather be? Popeye or Brutus?
Popeye.
I would eat the spinach for longer than the weekend.
You & Bobfr both! Hahahaha! 🙂
Popeye sure has a lot of TOD fans.
I’ve created many a spinach dish in time, I’ll have you know 😎
Hmmm…a very nice meal – but you can only have the spinach, unfortunately. Leave the bacon, asparagus, etc for amk’s kitties and puppies. 🙂 🙂
P.S. I can’t believe you prepared that in just under 10 mins. Chips you are a gourmet star!!!
Thanks Hopefruit 😎 I have mastered this cooking thing, truly.
Yes, PBO just sent a text saying that he needs you to prepare the BEST cake for his 52nd birthday on Aug 4th. He will be on the road and will be sharing it with many OFA volunteers, his WH team, friends, family even the WH press corps like Mark Knoller will need a slice (or 2)…
Hi hopefruit2, do not forget POB said he is sending one over just for Chips and the TOD family to enjoy. He wants our beloved Chips to have the day off on his birthday. Now that is very, very nice of our President.
I just want Chips to bake mine on my Big day that comes in a about three months from now. Just saying.HZ
I’m sure Chips will get started on your birthday cake very soon HZ – it will be a very special cake & tribute to you!
Of course, PBO is very grateful to Chips – I knew he would want her to have a holiday on his birthday. 🙂
Cast my vote for spinach over emoprogs in a heartbeat. (Grew up in the land of sailors, I did — San Diego.)
Friend who is severerly color blind tells me the sight that makes him sickest is that of a steaming bowl of creamed spinach (hint: he sees dull green as a dull brown).
So let’s toss a few spinach salads (with bacon dressing) instead, OK?
I feel bad for your friend Araphoho415 – I really do. Hope he doesn’t have too many encounters with creamed spinach.
Otherwise, glad you’re in the spinach column! 🙂
SPINACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amen! LOL 🙂
Hf, I would love to have spinach three times a day, especially if it’s fresh and prepared right. On the other hand, I would not last five minutes with two anti-PBO emoprogs and would leave by any exit available from that apartment–even a window.
HAHAHAHAHAHA! Well, jackie you speak for me and the rest of the TODers who without hesitation endorsed the spinach option!!! 🙂
I am adding my name to the Spinach group! No doubt about that one.
Absolutely – spinach it is!!! 🙂
Hey Hopefruit, do you know why my notification message only goes on sometimes. Other times I think I completely miss messages.
I think it’s a glitch in WordPress. I have the same problem. Sometimes my notification is lit up, and there are no new messages.
Ok, good, glad I’m not the only one :).
How are you able to follow up with comments without having to scroll through so many of the blogs? Do you just use the notification by email to get you there?
Sometimes I scroll – if the notification button is not working properly, but I don’t receive email notifications because I unchecked the notification by email box. My inbox gets clogged up with too many notices, and then I have to spend time deleting stuff. 🙂
YES! Lots of emails! 🙂 Well, thank you for your help…I appreciate it 🙂
Sure, no problem at all!
Always love your posts!
Always love your posts!
Always love your posts!

Afternoon / evening Obots!
Sweet Jeebus I’ve had my share of loons at the library today. Before lunch I had the lady who said she could communicate telepathically with animals. Now it’s the Angry White Man who feels it is incumbent upon him to complain about how everyone else in the library is nuts.
I’ve started keeping a journal again, precisely so that I can set down these incidents. I have to turn it into a book somehow.
Indeed LL. Also a gentle ‘minder: When will you start writing the 5K essay on the Royal Highness Baby, now he actually has a name! Then you can give each of these loons a copy when they act up.
Don’t feel bad LL. When I worked for the Chicago Public Library, this guy came in from the street and belted one of the clerks with a large piece of an old tire, and that is just one of the things that happened. I could write a book. 🙂

Bars and playgrounds! What could possibly go wrong!
http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/07/24/2349961/north-carolina-gun-owners-will-soon-be-able-to-carry-firearms-at-bars-and-playgrounds/
What is wrong with these people?
My Dad’s family is from East Tennessee and he was a life-long gun (rifle) owner, so I sympathize with the 2nd amendment rights argument.
But my Dad didn’t drink (except a nip or two around Christmas) and would never take his firearm to a public place, let alone where children would be present.
What is wrong with these people?
The “coolest museum you’ll never see” has a new piece de resistance – the gun found next to the body of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan when Navy SEALs killed him in a midnight raid.
The AK-47 is a recent addition to a collection that’s among the toughest tickets in the country for museumgoers. Tucked into various hallways at CIA headquarters in Langley, Va., the museum displays the gadgets, artifacts and trophies of 70 years of spycraft, from World War II through the War on Terror. Closed to the public, it had only been visited by employees and invited guests until NBC News recently became the first news organization allowed to bring in video cameras.
You’re more likely to get hurt by the GOP who lives in the swamps than by a ‘gator.
Non political, and a great gesture….. G.H.W. Bush himself lost a child at the age of 3 due to leukemia.
Very nice!
Good for them! I hope the child feels loved by this sweet gesture.
Don’t mean to nitpick but, GHW, that’s a huge SS detail!
Don’t want to nitpick either Meta, it’s a lovely gesture …… but seriously, there are about 26 SS men in that photo, every one of them white. Bizarre.
I was thinking the exact same things. It’s something to show the O-haters when they complain about his “vacations”.
That is a lovely gesture on the part of the former president.
Very nice; however, (1) 26 agents in his detail? and (2) where’s the diversity?
Probably on 8hr shifts…. 8/9 per shift seems about right…..I could care less how many agents it takes in all honestly…..for any president. I want a 100 or more for PBO if need be…..
I’m not complaining but I’m surprised he has such a large detail. The President must have triple then.
The current president has between 100-200 depending on where he is traveling…. that does not include Defense Dept. attaché, and State. Dept. on and on… Even when traveling to Golf on the weekends at the AFB, he has 40 or so…. typically 2-3 per hole in the woods, and then the permanent detail that travels everywhere with him at his side.
Why should he resign when we just had serial adulterer Mark Sanford elected to the senate?
Either way, who cares? But he shouldn’t have gone off on the President during the healthcare debate.
That was sickening, every night on Maddow and Olberman slamming the President on the Affordable Care act!
I’m so sick of our media– they are lazy and just plain annoying. Just as hopefruit said — Mark Sanford was elected, how is this any worse than that?
Also, I saw an interview with the NY TImes editor and he was saying Weiner should resign — he looked like he was told to say that. There are powers that be that don’t want Weiner to run because they know he will make a difference.
We must remember that GOoPers will lie, cheat, steal and kill their mommas, just to win elections, because it’s the only way they can stay in power.
The conference call tonight with OFA was good. I missed the first minutes of it but I did get connected. Those TOD family members who were on the entire call will probably be in a better position to inform our family here. I always am a little concerned about others creeping in on what we are trying to do.
I received an invitation via email and signed up and then immediately received my information. You all know all of that is a part of the format of these calls.
Go to the site, and I am sure you all will be able to get the needed information. It is a great very smart set up. HZ
Darn. I forgot that I signed up to be on the call I forgot to be on! Going to a meeting this Sat…will get the info then:)
I, too, missed part of the call; connection issues. Finally got in by calling one of the computer connect numbers.
Love that they take the time to engage everyday citizens.
The comments section is pretty funny….. ” That nerd is wearing the most patriotic blouse ”

JER, thanks. I always get so emotional when I see this. I am just so grateful that he is almost home to FLOTUS. It is so awesome to watch this wonderful president.
I love how he goes and shake hands with the pilots when he boards and when he deboards. He does it with so much grace.
TY again, JER.
Chat away!
http://theobamadiary.com/2013/07/24/chat-away-205/
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama, pondering his post-presidency, is directing a small circle of longtime advisers to actively start thinking about his future, including where to locate his presidential library.
I have it from multiple sources that Chicago business executive Marty Nesbitt will lead the process, with Obama putting in charge one of his closest friends, a golfing and basketball buddy who was treasurer of his 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns.
Julianna Smoot, an Obama 2012 deputy campaign manager who was the 2008 campaign finance director, is also part of the leadership and will oversee the fund-raising drive that will eventually be associated with an Obama library.
The inner circle also includes White House Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco who is handling the Obama post-presidential portfolio. Every sign continues to point to the Obama library being located in Chicago.
Chicago makes more sense but I would love if they had some sort of center in Hawaii.
