No ‘faster than a speeding bullet’ visuals? Is that fair and balanced – there’s always enough colourful turtles. Oh well, I’ll say ‘Howdy back, My Lady Mayor.
CHICA! Try to imagine the BIGGEST TOD grin evah – that’s what my face is showing! Thank ‘eee, kindly ma’am, never expected such a civil and timely response. š š
#2 had Knox college on her list of college visits. The faculty and students were very inviting and really gave us the red carpet treatment, but alas, it was a tad too rural and too small to hold her interest. My guess? It was too close to home.
‘It was too close to home’ Almost certainly. My oldest male nephew chose a university that was about 5 hours drive away (couldn’t afford the out of region ones) then refused to even have his parents drive him there for admission. He accepted a drive to the bus station about an hour away, and took the bus the rest of the way. He didn’t want them to have to drive ‘so far’ to get back after dropping him off. I suspect he didn’t want them to be too familiar with the route there. š
Well hey there VC. I’ve been extra busy and have barely gotten a chance to lurk, let alone actually post something. Unexpectedly both #1 and #2 were here at the same time and it was great! The college choice really was about where she could expand and grow. She felt Knox too small to allow for that. She ended up at Howard University in DC and it couldn’t have been a better choice. It gave me a chance to visit our Capital and her a chance to be the very independent person that she’s become. We took her and were the last parents to leave the campus. I thought security was going to gently nudge us away, after classes had actually started and all the freshman orientation stuff had been over for several days.
On another note, I am not too sure, because I never found the actual thread where you might have posted any detail, but I do offer my condolences to you for what I gather to be a loss in your family. I wish you and your family peace of mind and spirit as you grapple with this unfortunate loss.
Bringing this over because at some point today (maybe later this afternoon) I think we should talk about this and add to it with other suggestions. This was in response to 57:

Outrageous subsidies for oil companies arenāt enough. Republicans have to help oil companies rake in more obscene profits. āFreeā enterprise, my ass: they are aided and abetted at every turn by Republicans who would rather rape the air and land than do anything constructive:

No matter what the topic is that would move this country forward, they refuse to work with anyone, even anyone IN THEIR OWN PARTY, that goes against them and their fossilized ideas. They are owned by these huge corporate entities that pay them to move their ideas and platforms through congressā¦never caring what is best for America. They are self serving and the only reason they even got into govt in the first place, is to dismantle it in favor of these corporations they bow down to. This becomes more and more apparent by the second to anyone paying attention that has half a brain.
They are afraid all these new ideasā¦WILL WORK! Will make for a cleaner, safer, more equitable, more just America. They WANT the constant upheaval to take away from real honest to goodness hard work of governingā¦we all know this.
In that vain, I want us to brainstorm some questions for August recess town halls. I hope everyone here can attend at least one in your area. ESPECIALLY if you have Republican rep. Since we already know that they will come āpreparedā with a little packet from the RNC about things to bash, rather than talk about everything THEY HAVENāT DONE while in Washingtonā¦.besides waste taxpayer $$ while taking THEIR paychecks and perksā¦.I think that we should turn the tables on them and hold them accountableā¦after all, they work for us, not the other way around.
Hereās my thought: Go with a group from OFA or a group of friendsā¦the more the merrier. Donāt sit together..fan yourselves out in the room. Ask pointed questions about the THINGS THEY HAVE VOTED ON OR AGAINST and word it in such a way that they will have to respond with an answer that will make people in the audience question them or want to seek answers on their own. I got this idea after reading a comment on Politicususa from a comment by Jeff (wonder if itās āourā Jeff?) He says:
there is a simple antidote to the town meeting. show up and ask the rep if he supports cantorās bill that would eliminate time and a half for overtime. change the subject to what they actually did, not what they are againstā¦..
I think this is a smashing idea:) It will take some prep on each of our parts to find a topic you want to ask about and then find out how they voted on itā¦then framing your question to show what they actually did and adding comment to your question to highlight why the way they voted goes against the people, the environment, voting rights, womenā¦whatever it happens to be.
So letās brainstorm some pointed questions together and put them on the defensive and keep control of these town hall meetingsā¦after all, this is what democracy is all about. Whoās in??
I definitely want to have that larger conversation. What I loved about your post was that it’s a blueprint for how we can be effective, beating them at their own game. And yes, it involves showing up. It involves being prepared. It involves taking part in changing the narrative.
“The University of Southern California is facing a federal civil rights investigation after students filed a complaint that alleged the school ignored campus rape and failed to prosecute attackers even after they confessed.” — Good. Rape is a not a joke and no school should ever protect a rapist over the victim. What nonsense.
For a minute there, UTAL, I thought he was admitting he was the perpetrator (‘he didn’t orgasm’). I haven’t read it as I’m getting my mind ready to listen to PBO.
How terrifying for parents who send their kids to college thinking they’ll be safe. Then you hear the people tasked with keeping them safe are such airheads like these campus police! Outrageous.
Nancy Pelosi just laid down the law on one of the C-Span channels. She said that it was alright that āBoehner wanted to be judged on how many laws he could repeal, but he had failed even to do that.ā
Who chose the folks to sit behind the podium? Except for one, they look like they’re waiting to get their yearly colostomy. What a dreary bunch of prune faces
We have the best political speaker in ages in PBO, don’t we, and I think a part of that is that he speaks to our brains as well as our ears/emotions. He does not imply or assume that the entire populace is blind and dumb.
And that’s the last 30 seconds I waste on the royal birth. Congratulations to the family – good health, long life, and DO GOOD for your fellow man with the advantages and privileges that have been bestowed upon you.
What ho TOD Peeps. Just popped into say that here at my relatively new job, my boss, is in his office next to mine, with our illustrious Prez’ speech on full blast with the door open! We’ve yet to talk poliitics around here so I don’t know other folks’ politcal leanings hmmm…..:veree interesting. š
If this county provided Romney with a 24 point margin of victer well then they deserve every goddamn thing they get. I am over and done with people that can barely keep their heads above water but yet run down to the voting box and vote for motherfuckers that will cut their goddamn throat, fuck Warrensburg.
I am speechless. Pres Obama knows how to prod our minds. However, he’s scaring me with this countdown clock to his departure from office. Does he have to bring on our depression so prematurely?
I think he’s telling us we can’t sit back and be lazy. We have to be active and work. This is no time for slackers, and we need to work with him. The first two years too many people thought “We’ve got this, we can sit back and let the President do all the work.” And we know how that worked out. He’s putting us on notice.
The Republicans are going to find that while they continue to try to put up roadblocks, PBO is taking a different path and will be traveling using a mode that their obstacles can’t stop. We will be going FORWARD whether they are on board or not.
Hi.
I’m ready and waiting! š
Just don’t tell anyone I forgot to get coiffed.
Howdy VC, howdy everyone

Oh man VC – you hit the jackpot today…..First & a pic – YAY!!
You can see why I’m still grinning, can’t you, GGail? And yes, the air is a bit rarefied, so I am a bit light-headed.
Hey VC, you landed on FIRST!!!
I haven’t seen you there in a looooonnnngggggg time. How’s the air up there girlfriend?
‘in a loooonn….’ Sssshhh!
HAHAHAHA!!!!
yo?
Ah ha! I’ve been keeping an eye peeled for you, Ms Cookem. How are the little and big grand darlings, and how in super active grandma?

Parents were allowed to STAY on campus beyond the drop off times? šÆ What were they thinking! /smh/

Was just going to re-post this. I think it’s vitally important:
Great job…still would like to have that larger conversation…
I definitely want to have that larger conversation. What I loved about your post was that it’s a blueprint for how we can be effective, beating them at their own game. And yes, it involves showing up. It involves being prepared. It involves taking part in changing the narrative.
Right Here, right Now….at TOD, waiting for POTUS to make History……….. š
Everyone all set? This is going to be wonderful.
Whoa……..

OMG! Any of those so-called “police” should be put UNDER the jail.
How terrifying for parents who send their kids to college thinking they’ll be safe. Then you hear the people tasked with keeping them safe are such airheads like these campus police! Outrageous.
Beautiful roll-out…..

C-SPAN 3 is also covering the speech on TV and online.

I want her back as Speaker. Let’s make that happen, y’all!
Has it started or am I stuck in hell?
Not yet!
Thanks. I have Cspan 3 now and hopefully the Whitehouse.
Anybody having a volume problem at WH.GOV – both laptop and feed are physically at top volume?
Volume’s fine now! š š
Kristen Welker is such an asshole, she parrots any and everything the Republicans say. Her and Chuck Todd suck ass.
THIS!!!!!!!!!!x1000 I muted until he came on!
Have to go to a Fire/Safety meeting in my Building. Will look for responses when I return.
But before I go….can I just say how much I love watching my President give a speech!
Yes You Can! š
Who chose the folks to sit behind the podium? Except for one, they look like they’re waiting to get their yearly colostomy. What a dreary bunch of prune faces
Our red tie pal from South Africa would have been the perfect addition to the front row. š
What did that man yell out; did anyone hear?
Dunno. But apparently the President was okay with it.
Yeah, I noticed that. Nosy VC was only curious. š
The man said “My daughter now has health insurance.” A positive comment that the president used to build his case.
TY, Carolyn. Nosy VC is more satisfied now. š

OT: does carrot cake count as a vegetable?
Yes, absolutely!
Yea!
It’s one of those days, Dudette……..
I understand. Trust me.
I don’t see why not. I’m eating one of my daily fruit servings……banana pudding.
LOLz!!
Call me Mr. President! š
And that’s the last 30 seconds I waste on the royal birth. Congratulations to the family – good health, long life, and DO GOOD for your fellow man with the advantages and privileges that have been bestowed upon you.
Bingo!
Happy for them… now let’s move on! #FORWARD
Hmmmmm George is soooooo blahhh. But I like Alexander Louis, sounds very regal.
Wouldn’t George VI only be his great-grandfather? QEII is William’s grandmother…
Oh, never mind. Just did the math there!
I wish he would say: “Republicans, you’re either with me or against me.”
Well, they’ve already made clear which part of that equation they’re on. Now it’s up to the electorate to respond appropriately.
Actually TnMG, ‘REPUBLICANS, YOU’RE EITHER WITH ME, OR WORKING AGAINST THE COUNTRY’ would be closer to the truth.
Yep, that’s MUCH better.
The new prince will be called GAL… G for George, A for Alexander and L for Louis. Now I wonder if Scotland Yard is on the way to my house.

Sadly, it’s the hard working middle class and poor Americans who are experiencing the impact of our legislators’ ignorance.

That’s a good sign. That shows he’s not a FOX viewer, because they are covering the Pope’s visit to Brazil, not PBO’s speech.
A great speech.
