First Lady Michelle Obama talks with Wendell Pierce at Sterling Farms grocery store in Marrero. She visited the grocery story to continue highlighting a theme of healthy food access after she addressed the 2013 National Council of La Raza Conference at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. Pierce serves on the board of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and opened the grocery store to expand the healthy, affordable options available in a neighborhood affected by Hurricane Katrina.

…. Naomi Bouie, a 5-year-old Uptown resident wearing her blue Princess Jasmine costume modeled after the character from the animated movie Aladdin, gave Obama a prolonged hug as she continued greeting other shoppers.

Naomi’s mother and grandmother said afterward that they told her about Obama’s health and fitness campaign, which is called, Let’s Move!, and that the girl dutifully told the first lady that she loves broccoli….

Nooooooo worries Lamh, thank you for the link! Because of a weird glitchy WordPress thing, we can’t delete comments, if we do the thread goes bonkers, so I’ll just edit your second comment to leave it blank-ish! Thanks again Lamh.

John dies and goes to Heaven. He meets St. Peter at the gate and asks him, “How do I get into Heaven?”

    St Pete: Spell “Love”.

    John: L – O – V – E

St Pete: That’s right, you may enter.

John: Boy, that was easy, are you sure that’s all there is to it?

St Pete: Yup…by the way, I have to run an errand. Would you please watch the gate for me and if anyone comes just ask them to spell LOVE. If they spell it right, let them in.

John: OK, I can do that.

Soon Ralph arrives and asks: How do I get in Heaven?

    John: Spell LOVE.

    Ralph: L – O – V – E.

John: That’s right, come on in.

Soon Harry arrives and asks: How do I get in Heaven?

    John: Spell LOVE

    Harry: L – O – V – E.

John: That’s right, come on in.

Soon a woman arrives and as she gets closer John realizes it’s his wife.

John: What are you doing here?

Wife: On the way home from your funeral, I was in a car accident and died. What do I have to do to get into Heaven?

    John: Spell Czechoslovakia……..

Thanks so much for the vid with the Louisville Cardinals. I missed that today, and I love those events—–PBO with the champion sports teams. He’s always so engaging and has fun with the teams. And I loved what the Coach had to say, about how he always had trouble getting his team to be interested in politics and voting, but not when President Obama was the candidate—–that they all voted, even the entire coaching staff—–and that there was a lot of love on the team for President Obama. No wonder the turtle and crazy Rand were looking so glum, like the biggest sourpusses of all time. Fun times!

He’s usually not a favourite of mine either. I went to retweet that and found I was blocked by the original tweeter; I wonder why. There are about 3 or 4 accounts that have blocked me, including Newsweek, and I haven’t a clue why. Of course, I’ve been losing weight over this. 🙄

Jacquelineboomer, I daily pray that some GOPers with some sense of decency will continue to come out and say things like this to the country. Paul Krugman is not a favorite of mine, but I respect people when they stand up and speak truth. I will continue to pray for more to come forth.HZ

Paul Krugman’s a big ol’ liberal who occasionally has not been as fair to Pres. Obama, but when he stays on course, taking down Republican policy like this, he’s fine with me. I’m praying too!

Four days from vacation everything that can pop up as a surprise is sapping us for money. GRRR! Fortunately, I am old enough to have learned to set extra money aside to prevent a gut punch delivered by random mayhem from screwing us out of our plans.

        July 24, 2013 at 12:07 am

We’ve had a $50 trip to urgent care (no worries, everybody is well), a previously unannounced cost for my son’s football gear (in addition to the already paid dues for the season), our dog sitter fell through so we’ve had to arrange a kennel stay, and now a flat tire!

It’s all good though. The crumb snatchers birthdays are one week apart. For one week per year, they’re the same age. That week ended on monday with my son’s birthday. On saturday during our normal early morning trip to drop me off at work, when the kids fall asleep as is their routine, we’re going to turn and make tracks for San Diego. We’ve booked a hotel on the beach for the night. We should arrive at around noon. We’ll enjoy the ocean for a day and then, in the morning, we’re headed for Legoland in Carlsbad for 2 days! The kids have no clue that we’re doing anything at all. Waking up on the way to the beach will be a big surprise. Going to Legoland the following day is gonna knock their little socks off! I can’t wait to see them flip out with excitement when they see the amusement park through the windshield.

Isn’t that always the way? It’s like the universe is conspiring against you. Don’t let it get you down and ruin your trip. Brush your shoulders and GO (if you can)! [A few yrs back, I got laid off 3 mos after having cleaned out my savings to buy and furnish a house, then paying for a long-overdue vacation in Hawaii. People thought I was nuts for going anyway. Hell, it was already paid for. Figured if/when I found a job who knows when I’d get vacation, sooo… Turned out to be as one of the best trips I ever had. Luckily a found a job within a month after I got back.]

Plus there’s nothing like watching a child light up with surprised excitement! They will cherish this family trip forever.
It’ll be good for you too. You’ll look back on the temporary blips and smile at having made it through them. Revel in it!

In a weird sort of way I like when life throws shit at my wife and I. Facing down challenges together only serves to increase our closeness to each other as teammates as we go through our lives as couple. What can I say? I am a sentimental dork. Sharing life with and giving love to my wife and kids is really miles more important than anything else in life. The rest is all beside the point.

Make your prints matter for her and your children, and do not allow the strings of disappointments follow you not one foot. Lockewasright — I hear ya!!
I’m making a big move the middle of August, halfway across the country, and the movers are costing me a pretty penny. Of course I find out yesterday I should probably replace the shields under my car for almost $500! ughhhh…but at least I know my car will be safe to drive.
      When it rains, it pours.
Have a great time with your trip — sounds like a blast.

Best of luck to you on your move! I have moved across the country before and hope to do it again in the next couple of years (keep your fingers crossed for us please). I’m sorry to hear about the surprise expense, but think the safety is worth it. The move may seem daunting sometimes, but I am a little envious of the excitement. I love to keep adventure in my life. I hope that your adventure brings fulfillment and opportunity.
