I know I posted this on another thread but I am truly disappointed in Carter’s stance on Trayvon Martin.

It’s a very scripted opinion that reeks of agenda and insincerity, and Carter probably has some petty axe to grind with PBO for some unknown reason. Honestly – I believe this was an MSM ploy to reassure white liberals that it was okay to agree with this racist verdict, and Carter found himself a willing participant.

When all else fails, trot out Jimmy Carter, the nonracist, peace-loving liberal former President to weigh in – on the side of the Jurors.

      • July 17, 2013 at 9:17 pm

To be honest, I lost a lot of respect for the Carters when I saw them speaking a couple of years ago on a panel, and they touted teaching Africans to wash their faces among their many proud accomplishments. I have two friends who are Rhodes Scholars who graduated with PhDs from Oxford University – and they grew up in Africa. I’ve got friends whose professions span from rocket scientist, to heart surgeon to brain surgeon to millionaire entrepreneurs – and they all grew up in Africa with very modest means. There may be some people who needed to learn to wash their faces, but I know people at work here in California who could stand with a hot shower or two…

I admire the work they’ve done in the world, and I’m sure they’ve helped many people. But, I’m under no illusions as to their attitudes when it comes to race.

His last The Chris Matthews Show…..that is syndicated across the nation is taped Fridays and airs on Sundays. This Sunday is the Last air date after 11 yrs on air.

I didn’t see Tweety (I record his show that airs at 7pm EDT), but think he was talking about his underwatched weekend show “The Chris Matthews Show.”

It’s a half-hour show that airs at 5:30 am Sundays in most markets (Los Angeles and in LP’s neck of the woods); this show has Tweety with 4 journalists (2 men, 2 women) and the last show is this weekend. I think they tape on Fridays, but broadcast it sometime during the weekend (it used be on Sat afternoons in the Los Angeles market).

It airs on Sunday Mornings at 9:30AM in my neck of the woods (NorthEast). I guess the ratings must be terrible. I’m not surprised. It’s another anti-Obama Republican talking points Sunday show in an over-saturated market.

          July 17, 2013 at 9:03 pm

I also found a news article that NBC had agreed to drop his Sunday show, around the time he signed his new contract for Hardball. Didn’t see tonight’s comment, because I try not to watch his show.

    • July 17, 2013 at 11:08 pm

What I understood him to say was The Chris Mathews Show which is a recent weekend show he has (which I have not watched) is ending. The screen showed that title on it. There was nothing mentioned about his weekday Hard Ball Show.

She and Tom Joyner were on Nancy Grace’s show tonight (Vinnie hosted) … she handled all of the questions beautifully. She more or less said she’s still standing strong, and even thanked Don West “for the challenges” and “blessed” him. Good for her.

The Obama administration has added roughly $33 million to a contract with a public relations firm to help promote President Obama’s signature healthcare law.
A spokesperson for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) said the extra money was added to a contract with the PR firm Weber Shandwick.

      July 17, 2013 at 9:49 pm

It’s a shame that they have to pay a PR firm to tout a law that’s been 100 years in the making. Americans should be celebrating from the rafters, and Democrats should be screaming the benefits of this law. The GOP should be shamed for what they’ve done to delay and obstruct this law that helps people and businesses, and brings America into the 21st century. It’s a shame that people didn’t inform themselves of this law that helps to protect them against insurance abuses, and allows them to possibly and potentially be released from working for an employer just to get much needed health care.

But, I’m glad they’re doing it.

I read something on the news scroll at the bottom of the screen on the Martin Bashire Show a couple of days ago that said OFA owes something like 3.5 million dollars to venders, etc. (I missed the rest of the list) . Wonder if the donations from OFA did not meet the advertising needs as I read that would be used to promote ACA. It makes me want to dig deeper into my pocket to help get them out of debt as that will surely be used to reflect negatively on PBO.

Boy does MSNBC think we’re stupid. They refuse to give Joy her own show – but continuously have her as “guest” or occasional sub for these Libertarian/emoprog propaganda whose ratings are subpar.

Now they have Lawrence in overdrive with the Snowden pimping, since Hayes has completely turned people off with his Greenwald/Snowden love-in of the past month.

            July 17, 2013 at 9:03 pm

Even though MSNBC is the lagging cable news station, I think Joy is better off staying with them.

MSNBC grooms their “stars” (think Alex Wagner’s oversaturation before she got her mid-day show) before they get their own show.

It was wise for her not to accept (or conversely, for MSNBC not to offer) SE Cupp midday slot.

She’ll be a primetime host soon enough.

Al Jazeera isn’t is a lot of markets and not available on basic TimeWarner cable. TWC basic cable has really cut back their offerings; we no longer get even the The Weather Channel; forget about BBC or Al Jazeera.

If Republicans in the House of Representatives vote against the immigration reform legislation that was recently approved by the Senate — or if they prevent it from coming to a vote at all — they will lose the presidential election in 2016. It will not even matter who their candidate is.

Hardly and solace, but some good news for Gun Control advocates:

“Finally, Marcia Krieger, a U.S. district court judge in Colorado, refrained from issuing an injunction last week to block enforcement of the Rocky Mountain state’s new regulation banning gun magazines holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition. Krieger said an injunction was unnecessary after opponents of the law reached a compromise with the state about how the ban would be enforced.”

School privatization laws crafted by corporate interests have been introduced in nearly every state in the first half of 2013, according to the Center for Media and Democracy. 43 states and the District of Columbia are considering school legislation developed by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), the umbrella organization that pushes state laws catered to business interests on a myriad of topics.
CMD’s report, “Cashing In On Kids,” details 139 separate ALEC-designed bills promoting for-profit education in the states and D.C. this year alone. Three states have considered school voucher programs, and 10 have taken up another ALEC measure that funnels public dollars to private schools via tax credits. Three states have considered the “Virtual Schools Act,” which spends taxpayer money on an online education model “few educators think is appropriate for young children.” So-called “Parent Trigger” laws designed by ALEC and the conservative Heartland Institute have come up in 12 states.
School vouchers do not generally raise student achievement, according to a Center on Education Policy review of years of research. CEP noted that even though most of that research has been funded by the for-profit education industry, it fails to make a convincing case for the superiority of privatized education. If kids are not benefiting, who is?

    • 113 pkayden
      July 17, 2013 at 9:13 pm

ALEC needs to be completely shut down. They’re the idiots that brought us “stand your ground”. I don’t think that people who support school vouchers understand that they’re designed to undermine the public education system. Plus there aren’t enough vouchers to serve all students.

More horrible stuff. This time it was a guilty verdict. An unarmed 13 year old black boy who was taking out the trash was accosted by his old white neighbor who came out with a pistol, chased him backwards on the sidewalk and then shot and killed him. This story includes a surveillance video. Even though it doesn’t show the shot being fired it still is extremely upsetting to watch what happened seconds before the child was killed.

This is not rocket science. If a hospital is for profit then hospitals will do what is necessary to increase their profits. It is their fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders.
Those who want to maintain a virtually unregulated and expensive private healthcare system want Americans to keep their blinders on. They want Americans to disregard math, facts, historical data, and empirical data. They want to treat the healthcare system as if it is a market, a healthcare market in which products would be correctly priced based on supply and demand with private entities keeping costs down through competition.
Insanity by many is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Insane then defines those that continue to push and support America’s virtual laissez faire healthcare system.
