President Obama always looks so elegant! He walks so gracefully and smiles so big. I love it that HE was re-elected and will serve the full two terms……GHWB probably feels that keenly.

Pres. Obama is walking in with that swagger and singing this to himself: “I can turn a gray sky blue. I can make it rain, whenever I wanted to. Oh, I. I can build a castle from a single grain of sand. I can make a ship sail, uh, on dry land.”

You know, I was thinking along the same lines when I saw him earlier. When he spoke I thought he looked very, very old so I checked his age -89yrs – then checked Carters – 88yrs until October. Seems to me Old George looked less well-preserved than Carter. Maybe because I liked him better and I also know the work he has been involved in since leaving office, but Carter looks like a dignified ‘old’ ‘while Old George just look …old.

here’s an interesting post, apropos of how important it is to VOTE and why our votes COUNT if be bother to VOTE.

Have I mentioned we have to get out there and VOTE?

      A quote from the post:

“In the state of Pennsylvania, there are about 4.2 million registered Democrats, and 3.1 million registered Republicans. Now, look at the “total” line above. Democrats have 1.1 million more registrations, but tallied only 75,000 more votes in the election. Still think the problem is gerrymandering?”

      • 33 57andfemale
        July 15, 2013 at 3:39 pm

83.9% Republican turnout in PA – 64.2% Democratic turnout. Enough extra votes statewide to win a national election but enough Democratic apathy to keep PA in Republican control – in the U.S. House and of course their awful state legislature and the governorship.

        Dem’s have to vote. Period.

      • 34 sjterrid
        July 15, 2013 at 5:04 pm

I went to an OFA meeting, training session this summer. The person that spoke said it’s not the gerrymandering that’s the problem, it’s the fact that not enough dems come out to vote. There are more of us registered, but we don’t vote than complain that it’s all the republicans fault. If we don’t get everything we want, we sit out the election instead of fighting within the system.

        • 35 57andfemale
          July 15, 2013 at 5:09 pm

That’s why this post hit me. In fact, the gerrymandering meme leads to even more Democratic complacency: it leads to the notion that their votes don’t count.

Let’s be clear: every assault this country has endured since Reagan has happened because Democrats have ceded their government to an increasingly small, virulent group of nuts who vote. Republicans always vote, all the time.

That’s all it takes. The insanity in 2010 about ‘withholding your vote unless PBO is Superman” is the reason we’re seeing what we see today. This has been coming for a very long time. It has been a good 20 years since the ‘they are all the same’ meme had any bearing on reality.

We are getting the country we deserve because we don’t vote. I remember when Corbett was elected in PA, the turnout in Philly was under the even low projections. I heard recently that the recent local election in L.A. had 17% turnout. 17%!!!!!!! So don’t bitch about prosecutors or cops or any damned thing if you don’t bother to vote.

There’s a “march for jobs” taking place in Washington D.C. today where Ted Cruz, Steve King, and Allen West will sermonize the aggrieved. But their mission is not to create jobs, it’s to convince Congress to vote against immigration reform. Because, as you know, dey took err jerbs!

According to Media Matters the group that organized today’s march, the Black American Leadership Alliance, is more or less an astroturf group serving as a front for FAIR, an anti-immigrant hate group that sympathizes with white supremacists.

Those tragic, heroic Prescott firefighters have not been forgotten:

The vigil is taking place at the Los Angeles County Fire Station 23 in Bellflower.

Deputies will stand guard in full uniform to pay tribute to the son of Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Joe Woyjeck.

      And from July 8th:

What’s surprising is that CarolMaeWY responded that she hasn’t seen anything about this is the local Gillette WY newspaper.

The stay was granted while the court considers the validity of a law that “purposely shields from judicial review the manner by which the drugs to be used in his execution were manufactured and obtained.” Judge Tusan’s order does not involve the question of whether Hill can be executed despite his mental disability.

      HF2,
Here’s a comparison pic (from the Brit rightwing inflamatory rag Mail Online — I scroll past the many offensive articles to see if there are any photos of interest).

      No comparison, actually.

No other first lady in history could wear the sumptuous jewel and metallic gowns that FLOTUS wears at state dinners and not fade into the background. FLOTUS has beautiful skin and those jewels, metals look so good on her. Course, she looks wonderful in red and white, too.

Not that Huma looks bad in the dress, but of course FLOTUS is just outstanding, in a class by herself. I wonder what made Huma decide to wear that particular dress? Does candidate Weiner want PBO supporters in NY to vote for him?

      • 72 nospin

I don’t see any issues. Part of the charm of Mrs. Obama is that she’s an ordinary, and yet extraordinary, woman. She wears clothes off the rack that the rest of us could wear, and she’s also got some designer outfits – because she’s worked hard to be able to afford them! We don’t even know who bought the dress first… and I actually saw a woman wearing another dress that I’d seen Michelle Obama wearing, and she obviously felt fabulous in it! I think it’s a compliment.

O/T: KcKenna and her mom just did a whole segment on our local afternoon ‘talk’ show. They made her muffins. The mom talked quite a bit about their trip to the WH, McKenna’s hug from the President. The hosts of this show are so loving and kind……just wonderful with McKenna. They invited her back to the show to cook with them again. The mom talked about how many muffins they made each fall as a fund-raiser for a local Downs Walk. I have the recipe printed. Hope I can make them later this week. I’ll give you a report when I do that.

    Reason #1,000,900,001 why far-left faux-gressives can KMNBA

    ‏@davidsirota 15m
Those outraged by Zimmerman verdict but fine w/ drone killing children of color show partisan politics defines their supposed principles.
    ‏@davidsirota 18m
It’s consistent to be outraged by BOTH Zimmerman verdict & killing of 16 yr old Awlaki. It’s inconsistent to only be outraged by the fmr

So the comparison is that Barack Obama is George Zimmerman and Travyon Martin is Al Awaki!!!!

    Really mofo! Really!!!

I swear if I EVER saw David Sirota in the streets and I knew who he was, I would smack him across his face….period.

The Dem party should thank their lucky stars that David Sirota is not known by anyone but the INTERNET left, cause that right there, faux-gressive logic or not, is how you piss people off.

    • July 15, 2013 at 5:01 pm

ETA: Another person who can KMNBA is the juror who’s allegedly gonna be writing a book (if true). And I’m supposed to “respect this verdict” and this person (allegedly) is already writing a book about it!!!!
