I LOVE IT WHEN I WAKE UP AND BARACK OBAMA IS MY PRESIDENT!!! I got that message yesterday. So, energized.

Pres Obama and his strategists are GENIUS!! Pure and simple. We simply MUST work even harder for 2014. THIS COUNTRY depends on it.

Good Morning Amk and other Early Risers… I was starting to wonder if anyone was up.

The GOP’s goal seems to be to give minorities, women, liberals, et al a reason to get out to vote in 2014….i.e., vote AGAINST the GOP

I have said a number of times that there are many who need a cause that will motivate them to vote, especially in mid-term and off-year elections. Between the VRA, the number of states enacting anti-choice legislation, student loans, immigration reform, and gun reform, the GOP has provided the cause and is practically campaigning for Democratic/Liberal candidates.

“Dep’t. of Obvious: The GOP “really seems to be struggling with that compassion thing.” ”

    http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2013/07/12/dept-of-obvious-the-gop-really-seems-to-be-struggling-with-that-compassion-thing/

    —–

    1. This isn’t about any compassion they want to convince themselves that they have, it’s about the perception of compassion…

    2. Not providing needy Americans (a good number of them are employed and white, by the way) with food stamps, AKA a way to stay alive by, you know, eating, shows no compassion.

    3. Not caring one tiny bit for anyone who doesn’t look, sound, think, or believe the way white male Christian conservatives do is not anyone’s idea of compassion, empathy, or outreach.

    4. How can there be a compassion element in an ill-timed, unnecessary, harmful austerity push?

    5. Supporting forced-birth is compassionate? Making doctors read scripts filled with lies to scare their female patients is compassionate? Shoving trans-vaginal probes up women against their will when there is no medical need for them is compassionate? Male legislators determining what women should do with their lives and bodies is compassionate? Forbidding women to make very painful, very personal, possibly life-saving decisions about their own health is compassionate? Withholding health services, including cancer screenings, is compassionate? Shaming women publicly and politically is compassionate?

The GOP doesn’t have a perception problem. Their goal is to fool people into believing that their slogans mean more than their intentions and legislative outcomes. Instead, the GOP has a policy problem. They have a trust problem. They have a people problem. They have a humanity problem. And that means they have a voter problem.

Thank you for this link, SW. The post nicely summarizes the complete lack of heart and decency displayed by the GOP everyday. They are racists, sadists and misogynists and they can’t hide it no matter what they do. Our job, with the help of OFA, is to make sure that every voter knows this. You can get your voter lists from OFA or you can get them from your local Democratic Party, but it’s time to get the word out, door to door, phone call to phone call, person to person. We can’t rely on the media or on the supposition that people know what’s going on. We have to make SURE they know what’s going on. The ball is in our court.

Agreed. The GOP wouldn’t know compassion if it bit them on the butt.

I was taking a nap yesterday and I thought I was dreaming when I heard on the t.v. that they were confiscating tampons at some state capital. C’mon America I mean really, who makes that call? Can someone here at TOD run me through the thought process that ended up with tampons being on the no-fly list?

        July 13, 2013 at 8:40 am

The type of men who would search for tampons are those who think this will embarrass women – and for some older women it probably did. http://americablog.com/2013/07/woman-in-tears-texas-trooper-confiscates-tampons-before-entering-senate-gallery-for-abortion-vote-video.html

Same men who would NEVER buy such things for their wives at the store. They are fixated about women’s reproductive organs, with little understanding of same. They are bigoted fools and I can only hope that the women in their lives (if they have any) walk out after this charade of ignorance and spite.

99ts, as a child I remember my mother giving me a shopping list to take down to the corner market. She made it worth my while by giving me money to buy potato chips and grape soda. I never thought to feel embarrassed or anything, but how can a man try to use “tampons” as some sort of weapon or something?

Don, the google says a tampon weighs .22 of an ounce. Are you afraid now?

For some men the sight of a tampon is a sigh of relief.

I know, I know, keep moving!!! Nothing to see here.

For more women it is a major sigh of relief – my 1st husband would NEVER buy “feminine protection” for me – and until he retired I never saw my father shop for anything (motor car excepted) – wimmin’s work! Didn’t have any brothers.

I was the designated tampon shopper for my mother. Every time my mother would ask my two brothers and I “can someone go to the store” they would run out the house, they were older than me so I guess they knew what that meant.

A man who devalues women. A man who sees women as second class at best. A man who only feels strong if he is forcibly making someone else weak. That kind of man.

Even after seeing confirmed reports, I thought it was a joke. It had to be.

they confiscated diabetes kits as well. I’m sure they would have confiscated asthma inhalers because those are ‘lethal weapons’ but loaded guns in a government building is ‘freedom’.

It is all so effed up I cannot get my brain around it.

Listen, I’m not the brightest guy in the world and I won’t be appearing on “Jeopardy” any time soon. But please don’t tell me that I’ve got more common sense than those Republican law makers in Texas.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if OFA raised more money than both Democratic and Republican incumbents and candidates in 2014 and beyond? I guess it couldn’t hurt being a community organizer after all.

I get 8 calls from the DNC/week. The next time they call I’m going to ask them what they intend to do with my money. Help promote ACA? Because right now I’m giving to OFA where they have flexibility to actually do stuff. I’m not ‘punishing’ the DNC, but frankly they could and should be a lot more effective at countering Republican lies and b.s. I will support them – we need more Dem’s and better Dem’s. But right now I want to know that my money is being used for immediate needs, and I think promotion of ACA is the most critical action Dem’s need to do right now.

If I hear another person bring up compassion in relationship with being a Republican I’m going to scream. The Republicans have made a tactical decision to go in the direction they are going. Simply put, they are going “Scorched Earth.” Forget about whatever slogan or moniker that is attached to Republicans, they have revealed themselves; please believe everything they are showing you.

    Good morning.

To our enlightened TOD brothers: this is the most that I have heard about tampons from men my entire life. You guys will indeed go where many fear to tread.
