So the man that he insulted is charged with assault because this guy is a f*$*ng idiot. Wish he hadn’t fled the scene though — that really hurts his case.
As for the racist, I hope he learned his lesson and his wife never takes him back.

It seems as though the racists finally feel comfortable enough to come out of the woodwork and they are letting everyone know how insecure and angry they are.

Neither Chris Hayes or Bill Press are journalist. They are both commentators and or radio/talk show host. We mistakenly ascribe them as “journalist” because they are on TV. There are very few real journalist nowadays to the detriment of our country.

Do we happen to know what language it is this Greenwald person thinks he speaks?? Or does he just imagine he knows how to write in English, and thinks and speaks something else entirely? He not only sounds as if he lacks credibility, he sounds illiterate. IMHO. Pretty murky mental process going on in there…. and you tell me there are people who actually listen to him? Huh.

(re-posted from the previous thread as suggested by Donna)

All right, I took the time to read it, and the two things that I find iffy are:
    1) Exceptions to the 20 weeks rule: as far as I understand the only exception is if carrying out the pregnancy would endanger the woman´life of if the baby would have certain birth defects. As I see it the following exceptions are not mentioned: rape and incest. What about minors, too?

    2) Standards of places that can provide abortions: I googled health standards but didn´t get anything concrete so whereas this sounds reasonable to me at first, the devil might be in the detail.

If I may express my opinion here, and I hope to not step on anyone´s toes since I think we are all reasonable adults here:
There are a few things that confuse and annoy me about all of this.
    a) the things I just listed. That´s what bugs me about the bill.
    b) extreme sides: why does it have to be the accuation of baby killers on the one side and the accuation of fascism on the other. Why not find a more common ground in the public debate in which women´s health is ensured, abortion is an option with my suggested broadening of exception, yet there is the mindfulness that after 20 weeks it is not recommendable? That is not to be set equal to banning or preventing, but i think moral implications cnanot be left out here entirely. There has to be good councelling (religion aside here though) and that includes not just working on a bill like that but on other things as well. Things that curve teenage pregnancy and poverty for one.

I think you make some interesting points. The right likes to focus on the “20 week” issue because it tugs at the conscience of some of America. Although Americans feel that a women still should have the right to be the final say in her reproductive rights and that republican state governments should not be manipulating the law of the land to satisfy their own beliefs, R’s know that the 20 week abortion ban polls well so they make that their focus. The bottom line is that Republican/Conservatives want to ban all abortions and Liberal/Democrats want it to remain the law. Safe, legal and rare. This is one of those passionate issues that each side will find very hard to find “common ground”. Roe v Wade made it the law and so the R’s simply want to overturn the law. They are passing these egregious laws because they want it to end up in the Supreme Court where they hope this Conservative SS will over turn the law all together.

They never consider preventive care which to me would be a common ground measure because honestly they are so in bed with the religious right that they feel they would then be condoning sex outside of marriage. It seems to me if they are so concerned about abortion they should make every effort possible to prevent the pregnancy in the first place.

Why are legislatures – men in particular – even entering into the debate – I cannot get past the fact that they do not do it for safety, protection or any reason that is sensible – they do it to downgrade women – to control women – which is why men rape.

To me legislated related to women’s reproduction is used by men who treat it as “legalized rape”. They realize rape is a crime for which they may (only may) be held responsible – so find other ways to intimidate and control women. The women who vote for this legislation have NO understanding of the harm that men would do to women through such laws.

I can’t believe this “gerrymandering” crap still hangs on.

It’s basically really simple, folks. To have a majority in the House, you need 218 seats. In the 29 states that actually register voters by party, Republicans have 27 percent of registrations. That means three quarters of voters are NOT registered Republican. Got it? It is absolutely NOT POSSIBLE for such a minority to gerrymander themselves into a majority

I’m sure it’s been mentioned that the Zimmerman jury has asked for clarification on instructions for a Manslaughter decision. Not going to speculate – as the HLN pundits are – because you never know what a jury is thinking.

    • July 13, 2013 at 6:06 pm

It’s impossible to know what they’re thinking but this is NOT a good sign for the defense. But what they do with the information and what happens next is anybody’s guess.

Court in recess for 30 minutes.

      • July 13, 2013 at 6:10 pm

It appears to me that the jury is considering the entire question of self-defense.

        • July 13, 2013 at 6:14 pm

It’s all so agonizing Meta, to think what Trayvon’s family went through when he was murdered, and now they have to endure this. Unimaginable.

          • July 13, 2013 at 6:20 pm

Chips, I cannot tell you how sickened I feel about all of this. The trial was a mess and I know they are in tremendous pain. I am holding onto hope that the jurors – 5 of whom are mothers – will have the presence of mind to see how Trayvon was HUNTED.

              July 13, 2013 at 6:25 pm

I am so with you on that, meta. Will not give up hope, because maybe the jury is just covering all bases – since they have consciences to carry with them the rest of their life if they don’t. Saying a silent prayer.

              • July 13, 2013 at 6:28 pm

JO’B, the law is complex but I think anyone with an open heart and mind who looks at the evidence will conclude that GZ spun a web of lies and deceit to cover up what really happened. He made a very fatal decision and must face the truth.

                • 78 jacquelineoboomer
                  July 13, 2013 at 6:51 pm

Agree with all of that, especially the “with an open heart and mind,” and that’s the part I’m praying for … and will add common sense to the mix, because the cover up implies guilt. And, in my mind, he’s more than guilty, and we need to get him off the streets.

            • July 13, 2013 at 6:36 pm

Hoping with you Meta, it’s just impossible to think about the alternative.

Self defense thrown out the window seemingly. I have been thinking it would come down to a manslaughter charge in the end. Foremost criteria “reckless regard for human life”. We certainly have that.

      • July 13, 2013 at 6:13 pm

I’ve been watching the trial from the start and I think this is the primary question they will grapple with. I do believe the state proved reckless disregard for Trayvon Martin.

      • 85 dotster3
        July 13, 2013 at 6:17 pm

But I heard a lawyer on one of the programs say after the trial ended that the manslaughter charge in Florida includes the instruction that if Zimmerman believed he was under threat of death OR serious bodily harm, that there could be no conviction, that it doesn’t even need to be true in reality, only that the jury believed that he believed he was under threat of bodily harm. I thought—wow—-the jury has a tough job there —-or any jury in any case involving the manslaughter charge, because any defendant could say they felt threatened—-and would have a license to kill. Anyone know if this is, in fact, the case there?

I wonder under Florida Statutes how many years a manslaughter charge is?

  26. July 13, 2013 at 6:48 pm

Attorneys are back in court and providing their response to the juror’s request. Prosecution requesting a more limited requirement on the question from the jurors. They want it to be more focused and specific as to which aspect of the manslaughter charge they do not understand. They are providing case citations.

Judge Nelson is agreeing to this.
