Thanks Chips! I click on the Rise and Shine, swallow, and get ready to read when up pops another thread. I better go get my walking shoes at this rate. 😆
ps. You do know by now that vc-griping = pleasure, right?
Howdy, MP! O, I’m not Canadian (in the opinion of frustrated friends)! 😉 😉
Thank you, old friend! Offspring just this minute told me he’s heading out to our major park for CD celebrations (with the youth from his church). I mean, how dare they plan their annual celebrations today when I’m traveling with the President?!! 😯
Gotta fill those empty hours…. ! 😉 I’m off to PT shortly, so must fly… Too hot in the PNW for the likes of moi… It will pass. I am so sorry for the terrible loss of life in Arizona, this is a dreadful thing, dreadful. Please light the candles. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=PBO
It was a lovely and fun 10 days, yes, they have departed, but all is well. As for ma voiture: it seems to be running well enough when others are driving. I, myself, have yet to return to the mobility level where I would not be 100% threat to everyone on the road, myself included. Hhrruummpphhhh……. 😦
So very glad you had this time together, Pamela – time to be treated like a queen, and time, though brief in one sense, to stack up a whole lot of memories. Darn those children for growing up and away so quickly! Even though we say we want them to grow up and be productive adults there is no reason for them to rush the process! 🙄 😆 😆
It’s easy enough for me to say, but be patient re your mobility. Pretty soon, you’ll be looking back on this time and it’ll seem to have passed relatively quickly (I hope).
Good morning Ms. Chips & TOD family. I hope everyone have a marvelous day today. Back in 2003-2005 I was on an environmental project in Tanzania. That was a wonderful experience for me and I love Tanzania.
Morning! Fabulous pics…I feel like I’ve been right there with them all this trip:) Thanks Chips and blog tyrants for allowing me this staycation! Dentist appt at 7am this morning…I took my husband’s because he’s out of town….WHY does he always make a 7am dental appt? Is that the first thing he wants done to him in the morning? Men!
Let me say something about POTUS dancing, I know I joke about his dancing, but his dancing is a hell of alot better than that mess G.W. Bush were doing that time. Alot ,lot, lot, better. I also will say this, watch the media say something about how POTUS shouldn’t be dancing when 19 fire fighters were kill. I could be wrong, but I’m waiting for something negative from our “I hate Obama” media.
Good Morning, Annieb! This reporting Chips and the gang have been doing is FANTABULOUS! The Obamas have been doing a wonderful, dare I say ‘royal’, job at each event, meeting, whatever! I know you agree. 😀 😀 I’d say don’t WAIT for ‘something negative from the “I hate Obama” media’. They are bound to deliver and in the meantime you will have allowed them to take SOME of your joy away from this moment. Just my take.
vc, believe me when I say this, I won’t allow the media or anyone else take anyway joy or pride I feel in watching my President and First Lady. I have been so proud of them on this Africa trip, and proud of Sasha and Malia also. Mines were just a comment about what I expect from this America media, ( not all of the media).
I believe you and I’m with you, Annieb! My pride in the Obamas – all of them – has no limits! I look at them together and individually and am just over the moon with pride that they all ‘instinctively’ know how to comport themselves ‘in public’. [I actually know I didn’t need to add ‘in public’.]
Annibella, what vcprez said!
Life is too short to worry about the haters– the haters have enough hate for all of us. Let them wallow in their misery, and let us enjoy the lightness and beauty that is the Obama family 🙂
All that hate is so bad for the body.
David Nakamura (WaPo)
“Across Africa, many wish President Obama was more like his predecessor in his health policies.”
By many asshole nakamura means the voices in his head. He has no data just the racist bs that drives his “reporting’. Across Africa… like he’s visited or speaks for an entire continent. What presumption.
He is the one who wishes PBO was more like Bush; i. e. white, gullible, easily handled by the financial elite, dismissive of the concerns of those not part of his narrow focus of interest, and so on and on.
I call it the TeaBags and EmoProgs – Bush Embarrassment Syndrome — they are completely and utterly embarrassed by the man, so anything that he did, that they THINK they can pin on this president they will do so. It hasn’t worked for the 5/6 years they’ve been trying it, but I guess when one is insane….
I checked Nakamura’s TL, and while it is quite obvious he is biased, he does have a few innocuous tweets that just simply share the info. I went there to respond to some, then decided to follow my own advice to Annieb above – ignore him and his ‘team’ so that they don’t taint the very real pleasure I AM getting from seeing the President and his family performing their duties with love, commitment and ….JOY! You have only to look at the Obamas to see that they are not stressed out or grim or impatient to be home or anything.
As a general comment to everyone here – if we let these strains of MSM hate seep into our trip periodically we are the only ones who will hurt (and I’m speaking mostly to shore up my own resolve). Think about it. MSM is already riddled with hate and misinformation. We get it from them daily, minutely even, and it bothers us daily, minutely. I don’t think we can deny that. When the Pres and his admin or family go abroad it’s a beautiful opportunity to see how the world receives him. We get the chance to enjoy the Pres with like-minded people. AND WE ARE NOT USUALLY DISAPPOINTED! Why let the haters intrude? The trips are brief enough – just a short ‘vacation’ from the ill-informed hatred.
Oh, sorry CEB, I didn’t mean this rant to go under your comment. In fact it wasn’t meant to be a rant. My fingers got carried away. Fact is I’m torn between not wanting the haters to intrude on my trip happiness and wanting to be aware what they are ‘up to’. Sigh!
Oh dear, the jackals must be apoplectic with this amazing welcoming ceremony. As Chips posted in the previous thread their heads must be exploding after seeing the road named after Barack Obama and so many Tanzanians wearing garments with pictures of President Obama. They like him, they really like him. This is going to require some very creative negative meme casting but I am sure the jackals when find a way.
They have a response- it’s to not inform the public of his whereabouts.
Most people in America have no clue that this President is even in Africa.
Fact !
All the information you need about the rally. There are also rallies in Los Angeles, Boston, and also Moral Monday rallies in North Carolina protesting the destructive ways the GOP have gone after minorities, women, workers, the unemployed, etc. People have had enough and are fighting back. I believe Ohioans are too after Kasich passed an anti-women anti-reproductive rights amendment in the budget last night with a group of white men cheering him on. They have messed with the wrong women.
UT, I’m so furious about what Republicans are doing to women and I hope women wake up to create an enormous backlash against every misogynist male who had anything to do with this concerted war on women’s rights. It’s long past time for women to fight back hard against these attacks. Maybe OFA could develop a whole separate effort with fighting against the war on women as its focus. We have to pull out all the stops in 2014 and make sure EVERY single woman voter in the US is contacted and brought to the polls. I, for one, have had enough.
So why isn’t the media screaming “where are the women”? Oh yes – white governors can ignore women – white governors are allowed to keep women unemployed and pregnant.
Great for you Ms.Joy Reid. I know you can handle the job. I will check you out. What about Now With Joy. Or All In With Joy Reid 8pm week nights MSNBC.
That’s wonderful! Now she can really fly. I really like Al J. This morning they were discussing Croatia’s entrance into the EU and how it will affect Croatia. One plus was people being able to go to any member country and study, cost being the same as the locals. Only thing I didn’t like this morning was calling the Snowman a whistleblower.
Habari Tanzania! Fabulous photos, Chips, BT’s — thank you! I love how POTUS/FLOTUS body people just whisk the flowers away, in a blink of an eye! Those kids who gave the flowers were just precious! Love the little girl’s hair. Would have loved to be in that crowd of performers, shaking my somethings!
Deen’s distinctions: ‘N—–s’ vs. ‘professional black men’
By Jonathan Capehart, Published: July 1, 2013 at 7:00 am
Something got lost in all the hullabaloo about Paula Deen and her desire to have a good ol’ Southern plantation wedding for her brother. Everyone focused on whether she dropped the N-word to described the black men and women who might work the event. But what Deen actually said in a deposition in the $1.2 million discrimination suit against her was far worse.
Deen acknowledged having said the N-word before. During a robbery, she told Matt Lauer last week. What Deen denied during that deposition was saying, “Well, what I would really like is a bunch of little n—–s to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around.” She did admit to talking about the way the “middle-aged black men” were dressed at a restaurant she and her husband had visited that inspired her dream of Dixie nuptials. And then came this exchange during the deposition.
Q. Is there any possibility, in your mind, that you slipped and used the word “n—-r”?
A. No, because that’s not what these men were. They were professional black men doing a fabulous job.
So what would be next for Mrs. Deen, have a big plantation with slaves in the back where the men in the family can go rape the female slaves. Those were the good old days for white people but not the slaves.
19 firefighters killed in Arizona blaze; ‘Our entire crew was lost’
(CNN) — The 19 firefighters were part of an elite squad who confronted wildfires up close, setting up barriers to stop their destructive spread.
But the inferno blazing across central Arizona proved too much.
The team was killed Sunday while fighting the Yarnell Hill fire, northwest of Phoenix — the deadliest wildland blaze for firefighters in more than 35 years.
LOL – I posted your tweet down below 🙂 I think BBC news is pushing this report – which may or may not be true… BBC News has been on an inti-US government (anti-Obama) scene for a while – I don’t know who is paying them, but money clearly is involved in this agenda-driven and partisan reporting.
He’ll calm down once French Intelligence informs him they’re doing the same thing to us. Well that and when France’s business community tells him don’t mess with the money.
BOOM! BBC is now part of the funded and coordinated series of media attacks on the US government on behalf of wikileaks, Assange, Snowden, Greenwald, etc…They seem to not be aware of how foolish they look in pushing these reports, and how they are damaging their own credibility, not the US government’s.
So now the French government takes it’s lead from fugitives and organizations like wikileaks that aids and harbors international criminals like assange. Yeah, smart move with an economy that’s in the tank.
I don’t even know how true that report is though. BBC has been pushing these reports of European “outrage” at the US due to the NSA leaks, and it just strikes me as so scripted and made up. I do think that there is a coordinated effort to damage PBO’s reputation and standing not just in the US, but on the international stage. The people funding these wikileaks activities are part of that effort. And unfortunately, some of the international media has been willing to drag their own reputations through the mud to get some of the money behind that effort. (e.g., Guardian, Observer, BBC).
How lovely to come back to TOD and find the arrival, the colours, the music, the ceremony, and everything about the first couple that makes my day wonderful!
Speaking of trash re: all things Snowdirt, how comes I haven’t heard anything about Bozo Allen? Is he in the clear after the crap he unleashed on us by not properly vetting that 29 year old freak? shouldn’t he be punished or something? a cancellation of his contract with the US government?
Hello Tanzania! What a wonderful welcome to our First Lady and President Obama… loving all the POTUS clothes.
I haven’t said thank YOU Chips nearly enough for this African journey.. all the info/ music has been so enlightening and interesting and exciting. Special thanks to Zizi!!
Mark Knoller has no problem posting pics with enthusiastic crowds for President Obama – that is as long as the crowds consist of Blacks (or Browns) racial/ethnic minorities. He NEVER posts pictures showing enthusiastic crowds of white people for President Obama.
@markknoller You only post pics of crowds for Obama when they are racial/ethnic minorities, but you don't post pics with white crowds. WHY?
[Just love beautiful 92 year old Rosanell Eaton who’s participating in Moral Mondays Movement]:
(Relayed by her daughter Armenta while Rosanell rested her voice) “What brought her out was the possibility of requiring voter ID. She was required when she was 21 years old to repeat the preamble to the Constitution in order to register. She did it! She didn’t even know she had to do it, she was just smart. They would yank you around back in those days. She was valedictorian of her class, she knew all that stuff. It’s what she had to go through. She thought things were smooth sailing. She’s seen the good, bad, and the ugly. Now she’s seeing the ugly again. ”
Good Afternoon TODers. I’m just able to sit down and catch up. What fascinating photos and videos. I love President Obama and the first family so much. They are wonderful ambassadors for the nation. If fact, people may look at them and forget we have a group of insane people taking away rights in this country. BTW, I thought GWB couldn’t leave the country. Maybe he knows Africa won’t arrest him as a war criminal.
Beautiful just beautiful……Thank You Chips and all blog contributors.
Congrats on first ber6964….have a great day all. Chips…thank you for all the updates
Congrats ber on #1 🙂
Thanks…….I have barely woken up and all this goodness came up. Have a wonderful day everyone.

LOL! df, I was just about to ask who schedules a dentist appt. at 7AM?!?!? 🙂 🙂 It had to be a guy’s decision….
Definitely a guy’s decision! I would NEVER do that!
Fortunately for us here, there are no dentists’ offices open at 7am!
Colourful and beautiful – man these Africans know how to use colours! 😀
Gorgeous pics – lovely welcome ceremony for our wonderful First Family!

Fact !
Just in: Obama to meet Bush at Embassy.
Interesting how he is there at the same time?
Maybe for AIDS policy?
I guess so. There must be a planned announcement.
Eleven people were killed at the US Embassy, the site of a 1998 bombing. They are going to lay a wreath. The embassy has been relocated.
Ty!
Okay- didn’t know this. Thanks Bill for the info.

You go, Joy, and make that money while you’re at it!

Congrats to @Soledad_OBrien for joining Al Jazeera America! Big get for them.
I can’t believe that stupid TeaNN let Soledad go.

So, the French President is threatening to block the EU trade agreement with US bc Snowden said the US bugged his office??
Really?
The both of them can go jump in a Cold Lake.

Ah, France. You can always count on them to be a posturing peacock. Can’t blame them, it’s in their nature.
Hollande will sign on. That’s too much potential money to leave on the table. French business leaders will blow a gasket if he louses this up.
So now the French government takes it’s lead from fugitives and organizations like wikileaks that aids and harbors international criminals like assange. Yeah, smart move with an economy that’s in the tank.

A bigger issue is the fact that “hero” Snowden is screwing things up and hurting us, despite what his fans say.
Don’t you know Snowden only concern is our civil liberties. B.S. I don’t trust Snowden or anyone involved with him.
How lovely to come back to TOD and find the arrival, the colours, the music, the ceremony, and everything about the first couple that makes my day wonderful!

Nice segue. I suspect execs at Booz Allen are hiding under a bed or having to be physically restrained from taking the first flight to Russia.
Good point, but typical of of our society. Businesses seem to skate while actual people are the ones holding the bag.
Hello Tanzania! What a wonderful welcome to our First Lady and President Obama… loving all the POTUS clothes.

Best wishes Mrs. Rice.
