BBC: South African President Jacob Zuma has cancelled a trip to Mozambique on Thursday after visiting former leader Nelson Mandela, 94, who remains critically ill in a Pretoria hospital.

Mr Mandela, South Africa’s first black president, has been in hospital since 8 June with a recurring lung infection.

Mr Zuma was briefed by doctors who were doing everything possible to ensure Mr Mandela’s well-being, a statement said.

On Tuesday, a cleric prayed for Mr Mandela’s “peaceful end”….

I can almost think that God is conspiring with Mr Mandela to get people to join together as one – and celebrate his wonderful life – and leave behind the hate and gossip spread by the media over the past many months. A true man of peace – no wonder he is so loved.

I have no doubt you are correct 99ts. He has passed the torch to our president who will complete MLK’s dream. We are extremely fortunate to be living at this time in our human history.

We sure are – I am glad both men achieved much in my lifetime. President Obama has much more to achieve – his time outside politics will give our children/grandchildren much to love.

JOHANNESBURGNelson Mandela is on life support.

The former South African president’s condition has worsened over the last couple of days. Well-wishers and supporters continued Wednesday to gather outside of the Pretoria hospital where the former South African president has been receiving treatment for nearly three weeks and the South African president canceled a Thursday trip amid worry about his health.

On Sunday, President Jacob Zuma said the 94-year-old former leader is “well-looked after and is comfortable” but the South African government has been relatively tight-lipped regarding Mandela’s health status.

Sorry, I had highlighted one paragraph to copy/paste and apparently copy/paste had ideas of its own. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I had wanted to share this part: “One nugget of wisdom about the arc of life and death came from Matthew Rusznyah, a 9-year-old boy who stopped outside Mandelaโ€™s home in the Johannesburg neighborhood of Houghton to show his appreciation.
โ€œWe came because we care about Mandela being sick, and we wish we could put a stop to it, like snap our fingers,โ€ he said. โ€œBut we canโ€™t. Itโ€™s how life works.โ€”

I remember when he was sent to prison. If I knew anything at that age, I knew he’d never leave that place alive. When he was released….well, THAT was surely a day I thought would never come. It was like a dozen Christmases rolled into one. Now he’s 94 and lived many decades beyond what anyone would have predicted. I’m just grateful to have been alive to witness a big chunk of the life of a great man.

I still don’t agree with him – I don’t think Gregory has ever pretended to be anything other than a right wing apologist. Seems to have taken Frank Rich a long time to discover something everyone else has known for years. As for making GG the reason for wanting Gregory out – lots of better reasons than that one.

I think they want him to leave Russia – but difficult finding someone to take him (other than the US) – if an airline lets him board without valid papers there can be serious problems in getting rid of him.

      • June 27, 2013 at 1:25 am

You make a ‘list’ for summer? That’s so teacher-y! It’s probably a list like Chips’ time-ish – you’ll get to each item when you get to it.

          • June 27, 2013 at 2:21 am

I have a MUCH better system. I do something, then put it on the list and cross it off! Very satisfying!

I really, really like your style, Maryl! I would never have thought of doing it this way, yet this way would definitely increase my sense of accomplishment. Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜†

              • June 27, 2013 at 10:13 am

Yep, it’s all about the ‘sense’ of accomplishment. Although to increase that you really have to have more to add than “Sat with kitty on lap while twittering” which was pretty much my entry for yesterday (taking care of ex’s sick kitty).

                • 145 vcprezofan2
                  June 27, 2013 at 11:03 am

                  Morning, Maryl!
No worries in the ‘add’ department for me. I love words, in particular their nuances! ๐Ÿ˜†
‘Sat with kitty on lap while twittering’ on *my* list would be…

                  1. Tend sick feline ………………………….. Check
                  2. Monitor feline’s periodic intake. .. ……….. Check
                  3. Give feline body massages as needed……. Check
                  4. Investigate Africa’s financial growth………. . Check
                  5. Ensure the Obamas met flight safely … …Check
                  6. Verify the illegality of the Texas SB5 vote…..Check
                  7. Learn what’s what in Australia today ……….Check
                  8. Participate in world peace (TOD interaction) Check

Hey, I could probably make it to #10 (I never even addressed the actual tweeting) and in retrospect feel a real sense of accomplishment because I did indeed do ALL that! ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜‰

                  • June 27, 2013 at 11:40 am

You have got style! Suddenly yesterday seems much more productive! I think we could market this system, vc! (See, now my list will read “Explored new income opportunities”!)

Very empowering your creative approach to list making. I am VERY HAPPY you shared it with me. Now when friends ask ‘ What did you DO today/ALL week?’ I know how to frame my answers. ๐Ÿ˜› THANKS!

I have no plans today to go anywhere except in front of my laptop, so your sharing your approach to the ‘To Do List’ has been quite timely and quite, quite mentally helpful. I wish I had been briefed on it before last night when a friend dropped by unexpectedly and asked what have I been doing – being so scarce and all. She had time to kill before picking up her teenager from work ๐Ÿ™„ so I missed being online for a good couple of hours. Sharing ALL I had done might have changed the tone of our visit some. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜›
