I think the VRA ruling may have waken the sleeping beast. Those long lines at the voting booths in 2012 was just a hint of what happens when our voting rights are threatened. Now, that SCOTUS has all but said the attempts to suppress the votes may continue, makes it official. That won’t sit well with folks who would otherwise be apathetic toward exercising their right to vote. The GOP, including its SCOTUS justices, just can’t help themselves from overreach.
Agreed. I am happy about DOMA. But it does not ease the pain and anger in my heart. Texas and other states have already moved to initiate voting restriction laws. Laws that the DOJ under Section 4 said they could not do in 2012. Well now all bets are off. They will do whatever they want and they know filing lawsuits against them is bullshit. The SCOTUS knew this would happen. They are not stupid men. The are Koch pawns. They are Republicans and whatever they can do to help Republicans win elections, they will do. Striking down DOMA will NOT hurt Republicans at the polls. Keeping as many black folk away from the polls will HELP Republicans. The Republicans on the bench do NOTHING out of good conscience.
Sure thry will do unimaginable things to suppress the vote of AAs and other minorities. That doesn’t mean that we can’t vote. It means we will have to be more determined than ever to meet the requirments, however unfair and GOTV. They will throw all kinds of restrictions at us, but compared to folks who lost their lives for the right to vote, this is but a minor inconvenience. We vote in enough numbers and we turn it around. I think the number I read was a 7% increase in voting will undo gerrymandering and put the folks in office who can readdress VRA.
Well said, cookemom. This is the spur that is going to make all of us try harder to register, make sure people have the proper ID and get out the vote. Anger and a sense of injustice are BIG motivators.
One step backward and three steps forward (DOMA, climate change initiative, and defeat of anti-woman bill in Texas) and as was noted earlier, it is only Wednesday. America under PBO is indeed a wonderful thing.
Some sections of DOMA still exist. This was not a repeal by SCOTUS. States still have the right to not recognize a marriage from another state. Federal benefits are available to all, but the states are still a patchwork.
In fact, a full repeal should be part of the actions going forward.
See, dumb, loony left, PBO was right to fight for legislative action by repealing DADT. It actually affirmed rights going forward, something an executive order cannot do. And something that is difficult to undo in general.
apparently, Batsh*t Bachmann has something to say about DOMA and marriage in general. I would ask her to take a good look at her own marriage before she starts yapping about what type of marriage is right in the eyes of a “Holy God.” 🙄
Morning lisa. Good to see you. Jim Messina sent out an excellent tweet on twitter to her. I do not know how to bring it over. I just retweeted it though.
((((((((( Love you and so good to continue to see you, my dear and special family member.)))))))))))HZ
Hi HZ!! So glad to hear from you. You appear to be in good spirits and for that I am eternally grateful! Thanks so much for your kind words, much much love, Lisa 🙂
Hi my wonderful lisa!!! I am in good spirits. I am trying to take it one day of gratefulness with all that is in my space. I am now on a “beer regiment” for my gut, and I do not like the taste of beer. However, I did some research with my doctors, and I found one great organic ale that my tastebuds seem to tolerate, and it seems to be helping some.
You are so welcome. You are very special to me, and I so happy to be around when you are here. You give me joyous laughter. TY so much. HZ
Good for you, Lisa. It’s always a good day when you add a comment. I love that Bachmann talks about the “clear will of Americans” because what she really means is her own clear will. She has no more idea of what Americans think and want than do the pandas at the National Zoo.
She did not complain when the will of Americans was subverted by the court yesterday. She should sit down and stfu; maybe then she will realize that her husband is gay.
Wasn’t there some clamor about PBO using executive privilege for DADT/DOMA changes? That PBO, he sure knows how to see the big picture. If only he could impart some of that steely patience he has onto the masses.
Those who oppose him keep forgetting that he is a constitutional lawyer; he taught it and knows it inside and out. A law is always better than an ED that can be changed by the next president. Think of where we would be if Roe vs. Wade had not been made into law.

The Ecuadorian Embassy’s deputy chief of mission said the showdown over Edward Snowden “wasn’t being provoked by Ecuador.” …
Ecuador is full of crap. They know they mouthed off to the US gov without thinking about the consequences and PBO and the gobment reminded them about all they have to lose if they put up a fight. this is Ecuador walking back their statements while trying to save. If I weren’t using my work computer for this response, I’d spell out that tried and true four letter “f” word.
yes, he’s been very open about it and showed pics of his recent marriage. He always has gay guests on his show and always highlights gay rights issues. He’s not as one note about it as Rachel Maddow though.
plus the secretary of the navy now is openly gay. more judges and government employees who are openly gay than ever….wonder if the “evolve already” fair-weather liberals will finally understand that as a president seeking reelection, president obama has to talk publicly about things in a way that don’t exactly match his personal beliefs? yes, that was a rhetorical question.
I have been getting emails from everyone from Move.on to Unite Blue to DCCC and others about the VRA ruling, but nothing yet from OFA. I know that they are gearing up for the climate change fight, but is there anything regarding yesterday’s ruling?
“For all those who shared stories with #standwithWendy, here is the email she just sent out:
Wow. What a day.
I cannot believe the amazing outpouring of support and encouragement that you delivered over the course of my 12 1/2 hour filibuster on the Senate floor.
This may seem hard to believe but I only have a few additional words to share at this time. First, I want to say an incredible and heartfelt thank you to the ten of thousands of Texans and Americans that offered their support and wishes of kindness throughout the day. Your presence at the capitol and your calls, emails, Facebook messages and tweets have sustained us and gave me the opportunity to make your voice heard.
Most importantly, I simply have no words to express my gratitude to those who lent their voice in the over 12,000 personal stories that you bravely and selflessly shared with me to object to this dangerous legislation.
Although I was the one with the microphone on the floor of the Senate today, it was your voice and your words – it was your filibuster.
Now we can’t fool ourselves. Governor Perry and the legislative leadership see their own political livelihood tied to denying women their full rights to make their own health decisions, and they won’t stop here.
I will admit I am a bit tired. But I’m ready to keep fighting and assure you I won’t stop. And, without a doubt I know you will never stop fighting for the Texas we love.
Thank you with all my heart and we will be back to fight another day.
Great day today, but we can’t rest and let VRA defeat us.
Meant VRA decision

It has been a hell of a week and it’s only Wednesday.
Wow… didn’t know hat thomas guy from Msnbc was gay too
That*
He got married I think a year or two ago.
yes, he’s been very open about it and showed pics of his recent marriage. He always has gay guests on his show and always highlights gay rights issues. He’s not as one note about it as Rachel Maddow though.
Also, mixed emotions on Aaron Hernandez, somebody is dead, yet I feel sorry for him.
Odd!
