LOL Jacqueline – I saw “leave a comment” – but Kreen was there first – then I had to drive the man to work – so just now saw your reply. What a day you folks have had. We just had the PM upended – which was sad, but the idiot who replaced her won’t be around for long – maybe long enough for the party to realize why they got rid of him in the first place!

    hey! Thanks, Ed. http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/al-qaida-said-to-be-changing-its-ways-after-leaks.php

U.S. intelligence agencies are scrambling to salvage their surveillance of al-Qaida and other terrorists who are working frantically to change how they communicate after a National Security Agency contractor leaked details of two NSA spying programs. It’s an electronic game of cat-and-mouse that could have deadly consequences if a plot is missed or a terrorist operative manages to drop out of sight.

Two U.S. intelligence officials say members of virtually every terrorist group, including core al-Qaida members, are attempting to change how they communicate, based on what they are reading in the media, to hide from U.S. surveillance. It is the first time intelligence officials have described which groups are reacting to the leaks.

    Beautiful family:)

I have not posted here in a long time (although I look as often as I can!), but OMG! Is Sasha not channeling the FLOTUS or what?!?! I really had to do a double take! I cannot believe how tall she has gotten. I really hope that in 10 years or so Malia and Sasha will write a book about their time in the White House. Can I pre order now? *smile*

    Wow….beautiful pictures.

Thanks for the Post and saying Senegal.

Africa is a Continent with at least 53 nations. Most In Europe use the names of African Nations…..unfortunately, here in US, we are always saying Africa. The re-Education of USA is well overdue.

Thank you for the photos! It’s really helps to orient ourselves! I don’t think the time difference is too extreme so maybe we’ll be able to watch things in real time?

After years of colonialism and imperialism forced on them by Western countries, it must be really something for the various African nations to see that for the first time the head of “the most powerful country in the world” and his family look like many of them.

Ah, great CEB! I wasn’t sure if the rolling tweets would make the site even slower for everyone, but so far so good…. I think. 😕

Really like them there too, makes it easy to keep with up with PBO, Flotus, WH tweets, etc.

Sherijr. It’s a good thing for the Paul idiot to keep talking. Everything is on record and with every statement he makes himself more and more unelectable outside his own state. All any Dem candidate would have to do is run Paul’s own words in an ad.

      June 26, 2013 at 6:53 pm

I think Rand Paul should give up all taxpayer-provided health care and pay for everything out of pocket. Like so many of us do who can’t wait for affordable health care

This promises to be a wonderful week for Favorite Family. They all look radiant in these photos.

    On another topic
Supreme Court decisions that show the True Agenda:
2000 Bush V. Gore The US President can be selected by rich folks.
2006 Kelo V. Town of New London A corporation that is richer than you may take your house. (This was the end of property rights in USA.)
2009 Citizens United Rich corporations may spend all they want to buy elections in order to secure candidates rich people prefer.
2013 Voting rights Act gutted Voting rights exist for those who can afford to exercise them.

There is a trend here, for sure. We will do what we can but we need to understand just what it is we are actually up against.

Dec 9, 2000 The FL Votes counts were stopped by SCOTUS….Scalia

Jan 21, 2010…..Roberts and his gang of 4, made Corporations people.

June 25, 2013…..VRA was gutted………….The SCOTUS since 2000 are deliberately hurting Most Americans.

Yes they are, Nena, and we need one conservative to retire–just one. This is among the top ten reasons why we must elect a Democratic president in 2016.

Oh Hellllllooo Senegal, hopefully we’ll get to see more soon…?

  21. June 26, 2013 at 6:59 pm

I just received an email from my older brother (and if you realize how old I am you realize he is almost ancient). Anyway, he had attached the following. I believe he wrote this and is trying to come up with something, a plan of action. As it happens, we will be meeting this weekend for our family reunion. When I return I will pass on ideas. OFA is great, but the more activities out there the better. Anyway, this is what it said:

June 25th, 2013 – a day on which the full political nature of the Supreme Court of the United States of America was placed on a podium for all Americans to observe and hopefully declare, “We will over come, and not some day, but now.”

The five men on the Court who voted to disallow the existing method for determining when persons in power usurp the rights of individuals to express their opinion, to raise their hand and say, “I believe . . . “, these five men know exactly what they are doing.

They have removed a section of law that protects against the disenfranchisement of persons who have an inalienable right to have a voice in their life. That section may not have been perfect, but it has been a barrier to those who would impose their will on others through manipulation and diminution of the rights of those others.

The five men in power on the Court are in lockstep in removing a safeguard, knowing full well that their recommended solution for creating a “better” safeguard is a fantasy in today’s political and social world. The bandage is taken off before the wound is healed and infection will set in long before replacement treatment is effected. Hopefully amputation of civil society will not be necessary.

Two things are constant in our world.

First, many of those in power, if unchecked, will exert that power to enhance their position at the unconscionable expense of others.

Second, the majority of Americans, throughout the country, believe in fairness and equality.

That majority must now rise, change today’s political and social world, and make a forceful statement to their elected representatives, and if those representatives are unresponsive, replace them. This requires a grassroots effort with massive participation. Not only the five men on the Supreme Court, but so many others must understand that the people will not be oppressed and will not stand for the oppression of others. If not, who is next? Will it be you?

    • June 26, 2013 at 7:13 pm

This email message should be front-paged.

      June 26, 2013 at 9:30 pm

Excellent, excellent, Japa. You brother is a wise man and he is speaking truth. SCOTUS offended every democracy supporting American in the country. We are in this together and we must fight together.

    • 70 purpleshoesla
      June 26, 2013 at 10:50 pm

As one of the people, I declare loudly that I will not be oppressed nor stand for the oppression of others. I want to do everything in my power to deliver this message forcefully to our representatives. Thank your brother for his words. I’m ready to do the work and interested in any ideas you pass along here.

The Washington National Cathedral will hold a special service Wednesday night to celebrate the Supreme Court rulings that struck down the federal Defense of Marriage Act and the California proposition banning gay marriage.

“Today’s rulings announce a new era for our country, one in which married lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans can finally enjoy the same federal recognition and protection that our laws have for so long extended to their fellow citizens,” said Rev. Gary Hall, the dean of the National Cathedral, in a press release Wednesday.

The announcement of the service, which begins at 7 p.m., was accompanied by an invitation by Hall to “LGBT couples and families.”

And that’s not the only way the cathedral is celebrating the SCOTUS rulings.

At noon, the Washington Ringing Society rang the cathedral’s bells to the tune of “Gloria in Excelsis,” and according to Cathedral spokesman Richard Weinberg, many other D.C. churches plan to do the same, CBS DC reported.

“We are ringing our bells at the Cathedral to celebrate the extension of federal marriage equality to all the same-sex couples modeling God’s love in lifelong covenants,” said Hall. “Our prayers for continued happiness are with them and with all couples who will be joined in matrimony in the years to come, whether at Washington National Cathedral or elsewhere.”

The cathedral will also host a group of leaders from various faiths who will speak at a press conference at 5 p.m. preceding the special service in support of marriage equality.

Layla, I’m glad the National Cathedral is doing this, but I would also like to see them do a Requiem Service for the death of our voting rights. John Lewis could be invited to give the sermon.

I am rather curious to see whether Chris Hayes will open his show tonight with “Snowden” in light of the recent revelations about his pre-Obama attitudes towards leakers. If he doesn’t discuss Snowden, or fails to address the recent revelations, that will tell me everything I need to know.

    • 106 Bill
      June 26, 2013 at 7:32 pm

Hayes may be bright enough to realize Snowden is beginning to lose his appeal with the emoprogs. He might wish to change the topic. It will be interesting. None of the other Snowden groupies seem to be mentioning the new revelations.

Much to my surprise, someone was brave enough to post a diary on Old Orange – and you should see the twisting of selves into pretzels and just the blatant denials, dismissal of inconvenient facts, etc. It was pitiful to watch these fools try to save face with crappy excuses like “Well it’s the message that matters – not the messenger” or “well he has grown” or “I’d rather be free than safe” or such crap.

This is exactly how Teabaggers, and far-right folks think. It was nauseating quite frankly. Of course, the diary did not make the rec list. These revelations are just a bit too inconvenient and cognitive dissonance-inducing for these rabid Obama-hating Libertarian Republicans.

Some (in the press) call it the 2nd coming (I could give some non-religious views on that) – Rudd is a micro manager who no-one liked as PM and he was all talk and NO action. His party (and that of the ex PM) are going to lose the next election. They are seriously disorganized. Rudd went on a wanks tour – convincing the press that he could do better in the opinion polls than the PM (Julia Gillard). The labor party in Australia has many factions. It takes an amazing person to get them to agree on anything – Rudd couldn’t do it 1st time around – and he won’t this time either. Only when they unite to defeat the right do they ever do any good.

The history of Australian politics, sees the left doing all the social changes and the right claiming they are the good guys while they do little other than help themselves and their cronies. As in the US, the right does nothing of benefit – yet the press applauds their inaction as wonderful. I have many family who agree with the right – all rather sad. As I get older I move more and more to the left (not sure that is supposed to happen!)

I could rant for hours, but you might have gathered – I don’t like Rudd – I don’t like his religion either – we do not need religion in our politics & both Rudd & the opposition party bring that along. The Press, owned and run by the right, brought down Julia – gave her no support whatsoever.

26 Senators Send A Letter Thanking Texas Sen. Wendy Davis

    Dear Senator Davis:

Thank you for your courage and determination in defeating S.B. 5, a bill that would have severely limited women’s reproductive choices in Texas. Your steadfastness sets an example that one person’s voice and commitment can make a difference. As Senators, we were awestruck as we watched you stand on the Senate floor of the Texas Legislature for hours in the face of ideologically based attempts to pass legislation that would threaten women’s health. Thanks to your dedication, Texas and the rest of the country will rethink efforts to enact similar laws. We are proud to call you an ally and a friend.

    With appreciation and admiration,

U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.), Mark Begich (D-Alaska), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Mark Udall (D-Col.), Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), Michael Bennet (D-Col.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and Al Franken (D-Minn.)
