“Leaders in the GOP-controlled Senate who want the bill to pass said at mid-afternoon they were considering invoking a little-used rule to end the filibuster with a vote, a move that other Republicans had earlier vowed not to use. They planned to let Davis talk the day out — as long as she stays within the rules for such speeches, with no leaning on her desk or no pausing or straying off the subject.”
GE! Pretty well, thanks for asking… still have about 15% fluid in lungs… but physically last few days have been pretty good to me…. It’s the cabin fever that’s driving me crazy, and refraining from talking to prevent irritating my throat…all in all slow and steady. I just hope there are not anymore hiccups!! And things on your end are on the up & up?
Silver lining is it has not gotten worse in the last 10 days or so… or I would be hospitalized. So instead I get to surf the web all day and cause new injuries…*carpal tunnel*….( may soon need a sick bay thread for TOD’ers!) Glad to hear all is good on your end though, try to keep it that way…..you have plenty of support from me & everyone else.
If Hillary Clinton thinks she can ease her way into the DEM nomination by being a coward and refraining from weighing in on any of the fundamental events occurring today, she had better think again.
First of all, I’m not even sure why the hell she joined Twitter. In the last 10 days she has posted 2 tweets which are:
And I am focused on the fact that the Clintons, with the help of the MSM, have been doing their part to detract from PBO’s 2nd term – in effect trying to weaken him for the 2014 midterms by pushing this “readyforHillary” crap and making people feel frustrated with PBO unmotivated to support his agenda.
The midterms are important but supporting PBO is more important. No one in the Democratic leadership or the media has his back, and it is left up to his base. Anytime we can go after one of his detractors we must.
I mention this on Twitter today. They only speak with they think it benefits them politically. Apparently they haven’t come up with a politically correct statement yet or they are waiting on a poll before they respond.
Bubba’s last tweet was Jun 18. And he’s been deafeningly silent on the anti-women’s bills in TX, VRA, climate change, etc. Yet he had no problems “weighing in” with his buddy John McCain on PBO’s position on Syria. Go figure…
Thanks Chiparoo. Everyone should send support to @WendyDavisTexas and use #StandWithWendy. The GOP are trying to derail her but she is still standing strong and focused. She has to do this until midnight central time so she needs all the support she can get.
Just got home from work. One of my old team members called me upset about the supreme court decision. Thought I’d come here to find the particulars but I see this – I thought this was a done deal and that they had passed this so I’m happy to see that it hasn’t passed yet.
Judging by my twitter feed, some in the lazy MSM have been awakened by Wendy’s courageous filibuster that something is happening in Texas. I hope this will spur editors to decide to cover this and similar stories in GOP-controlled state governments.
In light of today’s SCOTUS voting rights decision, reposting this for all Texans. LBJ considered the VRA his greatest accomplishment (Eisenhower considered the St. Lawrence seaway his):
LBJ called the Voting Rights at stake before SCOTUS is greatest accomplishment http://t.co/3K17a9pPa9
Lets put Hal Sparks on Pierce. I heard Hal shout him down on Stephanie Miller a couple of weeks ago. They ended the conversation by agreeing to disagree. Hal was fierce. 🙂
Wendy Davis has an impressive Wikipedia entry. She graduated from Texas Christian University, first in her class, and from Harvard Law with honors while a single mother.
Tell me…..WHY is this woman “a girl in the south” a Republican? She needs to leave that party and re-register as a Democrat.
I sent in a contribution tonight for the feeding of the Texas women legislators. I did it in honor of my wonderful daughter-in-law who relied on Planned Parenthood for her medical care before she married my son. It was what she had!…and she is True Blue!
‘disappointed’? you’re disappointed when your favorite ice cream is sold out. you’re disappointed when a movie has a weak ending. gutting the voting rights act requires a stronger response than ‘disappointed’.
looks like the repub is ahead right now but it did go down a point so maybe the dems will pull through. surprised at how low the votes are though. very few so far.
Actually turnout was better than predicted for the type of year and time of year – remember it’s late June in an off year. Should not be compared with 2010 – that was in February and in the middle of the ACA debate.
I hear CH has the Bush EPA chick on his show and some other idiot saying the substance wasn’t all that encouraging?
You know, I though Hayes would be happy, instead he’s miserable!
Unreal!
Go Wendy!
maryl1 and africa, congrats to both of you at the top of this thread!
Go Wendy!!
I hope this will be covered as ferociously by MSM, especially those who claim to be sympathetic to women’s issues. This is just unacceptable.
GE Chips, TOD…Congrats again on first Maryl

Evening LP! How are you feeling, did everything go okay with your check-up?

Ah, still 15%? Such a slow road to full recovery, wishing you a speedy journey to 0%!
All’s excellent at my end LP, thank you!!

Thank you so much LP, and get 100% better soon!

Friday June 14:
And then this (about 1 hr ago):
She did weigh in on Snowden madness, supports the President.
I believe it was an answer to a question while speaking to a Jewish group in LA, and it was a very humdrum statement. What else could she say?
Btw I suggest and ask that we stay focused in the midterms and what the republicans are doing?
🙂
I’m focused alright. VERY focused.

Silent on gun legislation and immigration, too. Also.
Thanks Chiparoo. Everyone should send support to @WendyDavisTexas and use #StandWithWendy. The GOP are trying to derail her but she is still standing strong and focused. She has to do this until midnight central time so she needs all the support she can get.
Chips, I’m stuck in moderation again.
Freed ya! DM’ed you, when you have a chance to check. Thanks UT.
Responded.
Thanks UT, just replied.
Done.

what a crazy day. I gotta go catch up.
Disgusting scumbags. They’re trying to screw her over.

Spread far and wide. She needs stories to keep going.
Here’s some photos of Sen. Davis http://www.chron.com/news/gallery/Senator-filibusters-abortion-debate-65233/photo-4835508.php

I don’t know about that “blood of virgins” part, just sayin’, but this is hysterical.
Here’s another liveblog with countdown clock:

🙂 except really, not.
But he does have those weather machines!!! 😉

President Obama in the doldrums….. according to Politico.
I really appreciate @MikeMemoli sending this out.
He’s one of the few journalists who doesn’t use twitter to self-promote.
Plus he updates his followers on VP Biden, so that’s good too!
I like that!
GOP is trying to stop Wendy but Democrats are fighting back.
Why does Charles Pierce so often bash this president? I love his writing, but sometimes his extreme cynicism is really irritating.
Agreed. He has become so bad I do not read him anymore. His cuteness is becoming old.
Lets put Hal Sparks on Pierce. I heard Hal shout him down on Stephanie Miller a couple of weeks ago. They ended the conversation by agreeing to disagree. Hal was fierce. 🙂
Hal is great and he is very funny.
Hal was ON! It was regarding Snowdon. It was EPIC. I’m so loving this week of him filling in.
So proud of Wendy.
Wendy Davis has an impressive Wikipedia entry. She graduated from Texas Christian University, first in her class, and from Harvard Law with honors while a single mother.
Yup. They didn’t learn from Florida.
Spread the word. Email, call, tweet. She needs your help. She has to keep going until midnight. Spread the word.
Tell me…..WHY is this woman “a girl in the south” a Republican? She needs to leave that party and re-register as a Democrat.

wondered the same – retweeted because she is standing with women instead of the party, but just can’t understand why she is a repug
She is a bloody hero.
Rep. Lewis is the one to follow today.
From a former battleground states OFA director (Mitch Stewart):
Who made the draconian TX filibuster rules?
It’s beyond ridiculous that you literally have to risk your health (see Bob Cesca tweet above) to filibuster. Just not right.
That was how it used to be in the US senate.
They watered it down and now TBGOPers abuse it to the hill.
Looks like @Maddow will focus on SCOTUS vs. VRA tonight.
Mick Jagger FTMFW!!!
David Plouffe for the win.
Boom!
……and Barack H. Obama is our President and Joe “O’Biden” is our Vice President…NOT the Quitter from Alaska or the War Monger from Arizona.
KAPOW. Thank you, David.
Calling PBO “the messiah” is what the lowest of the low rwnj posters use believing it really gets to PBO supporters.
‘ilk’? now there’s an insult! 🙂
I know this b&&&& is not trying to mess with Plouffe. My money is on Plouffe any day. 🙂
OOOOOPs..She’s lurking here.
They’re lurking here.
HRC spoke for herself and the big Dog, Bubba, can’t speak for himself?
Hmm?
Or someone is tweeting for both of them.
‘disappointed’? you’re disappointed when your favorite ice cream is sold out. you’re disappointed when a movie has a weak ending. gutting the voting rights act requires a stronger response than ‘disappointed’.
That was my thought. More like “sick at heart”.
https://twitter.com/claytondorsey/status/349679263877840897
holy mackeral that’s right – this is happening too:
I want it called early….for today has been a Rough day……..
looks like the repub is ahead right now but it did go down a point so maybe the dems will pull through. surprised at how low the votes are though. very few so far.
Usually the early votes come from the rural (and most Republican) counties. The cities and urban more liberal places come in later.
turn out was abysmal. 12.5% of Boston electorate at 3:00 p.m. low enough that I wont relax until it’s called.
Hang in there Wendy Davis. You’re Simply the Very Best………..Thank you so very much.
Don’t mess with Texas women.
Any news MA special election? I read that the turnout was pathetic, even lower than 2010 at around 40%.
Actually turnout was better than predicted for the type of year and time of year – remember it’s late June in an off year. Should not be compared with 2010 – that was in February and in the middle of the ACA debate.

Lame excuses
With 1% reporting Markey has 53%
good news there!
Woooooooooooohoooooooo! Exciting times.
hey UT why are all these other guys talking about Senator Davis’s right to filibuster? are they trying to stop it?
wow sorry that wasn’t very clear it’s all the guys in the TX house. they’re talking instead of senator davis

What time do POTUS, FLOTUS and the girls leave for Africa tomorrow.
