Germany’s fascination w/ PBO

Political change inspires pop culture. A visitor views the artwork ‘Obama’ by Vik Munoz from Ben Brown Fine Arts gallery at the Art Cologne fair in Cologne April, 2013.

At the Rose Monday street parade in Cologne, a caricature on a float depicts the US president as ‘Captain America.’ The Rose Monday parade is the pinnacle of Carneval, the German version of Mardi Gras, and often features colorful floats poking fun at German politicians.

In July 2008 then-senator Barack Obama signaled his interest in Germany with a symbolic visit to Berlin, addressing a crowd of 200,000 at the Victory Column. One fan showed his support with a poster stating, ‘Obama for chancellor.’

While campaigning the first time around President Obama addressed over 200,000 Europeans in Berlin, Germany

An electronics store in Hamburg, Germany, broadcasts US President Barack Obama’s first inauguration ceremony in January 2009. Two months prior, millions of Germans took part in US election night parties across Germany

At the 2009 International toy fair in Nuremberg, Germany unveiled its ‘Obamania.’ Colorful plastic stickers called the ‘ministeck,’ or mini plug system, are used to create artwork including portraits of US President Obama and Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Thomas Newman is sublime, Dudette! Thank you!!

Our President Obama is just as sublime, and it is to the great harm of those who have neither the intelligence, core value of empathy, or ability to escape their avariciousness to realize they have been invited to participate in the most profound dialectic ever offered by a powerful leader to EVERY person ….

It is OUR responsibility to ensure every human, alive today, and in generations to come realize that this unprecedented moment in human history happened during and it is OUR responsibility to ensure it is extended, nurtured and expanded for every human, alive or yet to be born … until the sun quits or the universe implodes.

Thank you for this statement, Bob. We, as a people, have never been asked to engage our intellects. Our whole culture is geared to instant gratification, appetite and the constant ginning up of false crises. We don’t know how to act when asked for serious involvement or discussion. For five years–more if you count the campaign–we’ve watched a relentless effort to diminish and trivialize the greatness of Barack Obama. The media tries repeatedly to put him into a smaller mold–hence the attempts to liken him to Nixon or Bush, or some other “lesser” president. They have to take him down to their own dwarfed size understanding so they can feel “superior” to this man they can’t hope to comprehend.
The call to participate in a profound dialectic is the “forest” in which our president operates, while the rest of our politicians and media are focused on the bark of the smallest trees.

It’s a gigantic task to get people to think and discuss, rather than react to the latest idiocy promoted by the press, but it’s one we have to undertake because our very futures depend on it. We can’t ask the president to do it all. We’re the ones we’ve been waiting for and it’s up to us to keep waking up and engaging our fellow Americans.

Sometimes it seems we only ever revere leaders who fought great wars. People like Barack Obama and Nelson Mandela – who win the peace – achieve so much more. When we love those who stop or prevent the wars, then we have truly “grown up”.

Good Morning TOD Early Birds (or extended Night Owls)!!!

Thanks to TOD’s top-notch reporters for the coverage of the Obama Family’s trip to Ireland and Germany. Editor-in-Chief – Chipsticks, Associate Editors – UTAustinliberal, Lovelyplains, Amk for Obama, Liberal Librarian, Zizi; TOD Contributors, Tweeters, FBers….all have helped to to give the thorough, round-the-clock coverage that is woefully lacking in the mainstream media.

Blog tyrants, thanks to your dedication in maintaining this forum. Because of it, the newstainers’ efforts in trying to portray the President’s trip in a negative light and attempts to claim that he is no longer popular in Europe was unsuccessful. The pictures, videos, front page headlines from international news sources, the streaming, links, etc. are all evidence that President Obama is as popular and respected as he has ever been. The “scandals” that the MSM hoped to generate outrage in the international communities did not happen.

Here at TOD, we were able to travel with the First Family…from the time that they left DC to the time they returned. We were able to share their experiences while they were in Ireland and Germany and we could feel the anticipation and excitement from the people there as they showed their love to the Obamas.

Thank you Chipsticks and BT’s for the experience!

    • June 20, 2013 at 7:04 am

…and that also goes for keeping us abreast of what’s happening here in the U.S. Our awareness is heightened because we are not dependent on the omission of information, misinformation, and yes, outright lies that come from the MSM. The GOP and MSM’s combined endeavor to discourage Obama supporters are thwarted daily because of the diligence of The Obama Diary Community and our allies.

    Good Morning TOD.

Well I see that Paula Deen’s good ole girl racist side has been revealed. The Food Network needs to fire her butt and cancel her show right now full stop!

Deen said “that restaurant represented a certain era in America.” When pressed by Billips, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Deen said she was referring to the period immediately surrounding the Civil War. She also said she knew people might “read something into it” if she used exclusively African-American servers at the wedding.

Though she denied having used the N word when discussing the wedding waitstaff, Deen admitted to Billips that she used the term in the past.

“Yes, of course,” Deen replied when asked if she ever said the word.

    • June 20, 2013 at 7:56 am

There was another lawsuit filed against her in 2012…

“Paula Deen suit amended with sharper allegations”

…former general manager at Uncle Bubba’s Seafood and Oyster House suffered “violent, sexist and racist behavior” at the hands of Earl W. “Bubba” Hiers…alleged Hiers’ conduct was “not only tolerated, but actively enabled” by his sister, Savannah celebrity chef Paula Deen …alleged sexual harassment and a persistent pattern of racial discrimination in the workplace. “The racially discriminatory attitudes pervaded the work place,” the complaint alleged, adding that “Paula Deen holds such racist views herself.”

Exactly Donna, this is nothing but ODS which has turned the media reporting into tabloid trash. There is a concerted effort to chase shiny objects to take attention away from the fact that President Obama is actually doing the hard work of governing and improving the lives of the American people. Piercing the media firewall continues to be a huge challenge. We have gasbags sitting in air conditioned studios pulling some inane criticisms out of the arse and then that becomes the negative story of the day. Everybody runs with it because they like nothing more than a story with a negative angle about President Obama. There is an endless supply of this crap. It’s a freaking feeding frenzy.

Congrats on first, Yardarm… and thanks for all the brilliant coverage to Ms Chips and the Blog Tyrants…. and LP, on the German front, I can certainly corroborate this fascination with PBO. I heard his speech from Berlin live yesterday on CNN Intn’l, and then heard the inane comments about how “lofty” it was, etc etc. Turned to the local German stations and heard a completely different take…. how “perfectly pitched” his words were, how he touched on all the important subjects, how much the German people respect and admire our president! Then there were many interviews with Germans who had traveled from everywhere in the country to hear him speak, all were positive and tremendously supportive. Would that our own US media and half of our deluded population would be like the Germans.

Thanks for that info. My contention is that our media is poorly educated, and has little knowledge or interest in events beyond our borders. They have no understanding of any society that isn’t here, and don’t care to learn.
They are a small circle and getting smaller. If they even travel with the president, they only ask each others’ opinions, they do not circulate with the people of another country.
I keep hoping that one of them will wake up and call on the others to learn and grow up, but so far, Nada!
They show the lack of a basic, well rounded college education. Jim Lehrer contended that the journalist should be broadly and deeply educated. She should not major in “journalism” in college, but save that for post college. The journalist needs a good grounding in History, to start, an understanding of the English language, a curiosity to learn, and a willingness to be wrong and called on it.
Compare the older ones with the new ones. No curiosity, little real learning, and an obtuseness and stubbornness which is galling.
Going through college one gets her opinions challenged and is forced to defend or change them. That is why college is so important. Also, the discipline to research and realize one is wrong and totally start over is necessary. I despise almost all the media!

Another reason to wonder why women/minorities support the GOP…

“Former Miss America Called ‘Street Walker’ by Local GOP Leader”

A former Miss America winner who is now a GOP candidate for Congress was called a string of profane names today, including “street walker,” ”love child” and “Miss Queen. ” Her attacker? A local Republican Party chairman in central Illinois.

Erika Harold, the 2003 winner of the Miss America contest, announced two weeks ago that she was running from Illinois’ 13th District. Her decision to challenge Rep. Rodney Davis in the Republican primary has divided some local party members and prompted the name-calling.

Harold, a 33-year-old graduate of Harvard Law School, is black. The criticism against her – from Jim Allen, chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party – carried strong racist overtones.

Harold, a 33-year-old graduate of Harvard Law School, is black. The criticism against her – from Jim Allen, chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Party – carried strong racist overtones.

“The little queen touts her abstinence, and she won the crown because she got bullied in school — boohoo, kids are cruel, life sucks and you move on,” Allen wrote. “Now, Miss Queen is being used like a street walker, and her pimps are the DEMOCRAT PARTY and RINO REPUBLICANS.”

He went on to call her “the love child of the DNC.”

Thank you for the people they who met and greeted them with peace, love and respect. We know that there are evil people, agendas and circumstances waiting and lurking to bring him down. But Your protection of his life even while in the womb until now has and will be done because his life has purpose, meaning and substance. We are forever grateful for this once in a lifetime experience that we are urged to share with those who are misinformed and ignorant to the truths around them. Some will never be able to comprehend this light here in these United States because they are blinding with decades of hate.
