Night Owls: Home Is Where The Music Lives

Whenever you heard this theme song, you knew you were in for a hell of a ride. James Gandolfini was a master.

      Whoa, congrats fellow SoCalifornian!

I think you’re like me… I don’t get premium cable, so any discussion of HBO or Showtime shows mean zero to me.

But it’s very sad that Gandolfino is gone at 51. That’s a year less than our President’s mother had on this earth.

Hey brother, I finally made it to the top. By the way, I feel so good because on Sunday I attended my grand niece graduation from U.C. Davis. She received B.Sc. degree in Biochemistry technology. She is the first woman in my family to earn a degree in a scientific field. We are all so proud of her.

Thanks Betsy! UC Davis is indeed a great school. I was so impressed by the fact that almost half of the graduates in her school were women. Also, the Chancellor and the Dean of her school were women. It’s so refreshing to see such refreshing social changes taking place in our country. More and more women are pursuing degrees and careers in scientific fields.

Yes Indeed Meta. They were all superb! I am so grateful that we have TOD because the MSM are not at all interested in thoroughly covering President Obama’s trips abroad. It’s as if they don’t want the American people to see how well the President and his family are received abroad.

What meta said. Thank you so much Chips, UT, and LP. TOD coverage of Ireland and Germany was just spectacular. Nobody does it better. It was the next best thing to being there. I really enjoyed the fabulous photos, fascinating commentary, great links, awesome tweets and amazing videos. It has been a delight to keep up with all of the activities of our amazing first family. Thanks again for all of your hard work. You really know how to make us feel special.

      • June 19, 2013 at 10:11 pm

Yes, wonderful, wonderful coverage, I was glued to my laptop following their every step. How proud I am of the First Family, especially of the girls. Worried, though, about Syria. Wishing every best luck to President Obama to help the leaders of the free world to come to some consensus on solutions.

But heavens, Putin’s sullen and even angry face throughout the two days hardly looks like solutions will be easy to come by. His grumpy face was almost funny.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these two days so absolutely wonderful for The Obama Diary and — especially, for me!

The FBI launched an investigation into Crawford last spring after he allegedly walked into a synagogue in Albany, N.Y., and inquired about technology that could kill “Israel’s enemies while they slept.” The synagogue notified police, and within six weeks the FBI had a source secretly recording meetings with Crawford, according an FBI affidavit filed in the case.

In a June 2012 conversation, Crawford – described by the FBI as a member of the Ku Klux Klan – called his design “Hiroshima on a light switch,” the affidavit said. And in August 2012, Crawford allegedly asked a high-ranking official in the KKK for money to fund his plot. The KKK official informed the FBI, and within weeks two undercover agents posing as KKK members were introduced to Crawford.

Over the next several months, Crawford conducted extensive research for the design, at times expressing frustration over the slow pace of the team’s progress, the FBI affidavit indicated. Ultimately, with help from the undercover agents, Crawford and Feight acquired the necessary parts and even tested the device that would remotely detonate the weapon, according to the FBI. It would all be powered through a truck’s cigarette lighter, the FBI said.

North Korea has expressed willingness to restart long-stalled nuclear talks with international partners, China’s foreign ministry has said.

According to its website, North Korean officials said they wanted to “peacefully resolve the nuclear issue”.

The remarks follow a meeting between North Korea’s vice foreign minister and his Chinese counterpart.

This President accomplishes a lot while being very subtle about it. The fact that we didn’t have wall to wall coverage of that summit in California is embarrassing, especially when a lot of the future depends on the relationship between these two countries. We’ll be learning of developments that started over that weekend for years to come, I’m sure.

But first, bringing over from the last thread.

The MSM is so busy bashing our President, it’s like they get paid BONUSES to do so.

    • June 19, 2013 at 9:54 pm

They( the 1%..better know as” the powers that be”) were not able to destroy the President with RWNJs so now they seek to discredit him with fake scandals…LWNJs know as emprogs…and using the left’s paranoia of distrust in government…,,to drive a wedge ….

The so called “left” is amusingly infantile. If President Obama is such a totalitarian, how come the left is out trashing him without any fear of being suppressed? How many members of the left have been imprisoned, or persecuted, by President Obama? How many members of the left have been prevented from publishing FALSE and incendiary attacks on President Obama? How many leftists are in prison because they aggressively oppose, and constantly trash, President Obama? The last time I checked Michael Moore is still a millionaire. Glenn Greenwald is still a darling of the media. Sens Bernie Sanders and Jeff Markley are still in the Senate. Rachel Maddow and Chris Hayes are still broadcasting on MSNBC. So, how in the world, would a sane person argue that Obama has imposed a totalitarian government in America? I am so sick of the hyperbole, about the loss of freedom, from both the right and the left. I have yet to see any one, from the right or the left, concretely demonstrate how his/her life has changed under the “totalitarian” President Obama.

OMG! Let’s not have any “procedural roadblocks” put in the way of a possible innocent person being put it death in NC!

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/06/20/us-usa-northcarolina-race-idUSBRE95J02620130620

North Carolina’s governor, hoping to resume executions in his state, on Wednesday signed the repeal of a law that has allowed death row inmates to seek a reduced sentence if they could prove racial bias affected their punishment.

The Racial Justice Act, the only law of its kind in the United States, had led to four inmates getting their sentences changed to life in prison without parole after taking effect in 2009.

Supporters said the historic measure addressed the state’s long record of racial injustice in its capital punishment system, while critics said it caused unnecessary costs and delays after nearly all death-row inmates, including whites, sought relief under the act.

Governor Pat McCrory, a Republican, said repealing the law would remove the “procedural roadblocks” that had kept North Carolina from executing anyone since 2006 despite there being 152 people on death row.

    • June 19, 2013 at 11:10 pm

But what I’m talking about is, when we get on a major bill like this, and members work hard to build support and to get bipartisan support, our amendments that are noncontroversial should go first,” Landrieu said. “But, that’s not what happens around here. What happens around here is the guys that cause all the trouble all the time on every bill … I don’t want to name their names because it’s not appropriate, but there’s a group on the other side and few maybe on our side. They’re never really happy with anything, and so they file tons of amendments and we spend all of our time worrying about their amendments, and those of us that spend a lot of our time building bipartisan support, that offer amendments that have no opposition, actually never get to those amendments.”

      **********************************

Landrieu is calling attention to how the Senate is broken….she is also calling attention to the fact that Harry Reid and not her should be raising these issues…notice how she says that there are Senators who are not happy with any bill…and block everything…

Nine drug companies have been fined for delaying cheaper generic drugs coming to market.

The European Commission fined the Danish firm Lundbeck and others 146m euros (£125m; $195m) for blocking the supply of cheaper anti-depressants.

It is the first fine of this kind in Europe and analysts say it could set a precedent.

“This is the first case of likely many for which we will see fine imposed,” said Deutsche Bank analysts Tim Race.
