PBO in N. Ireland for the G8

Barack Obama will urge Northern Ireland’s politicians to quicken the pace of progress in the peace process when he arrives in Belfast on Monday.  He will use his visit to Northern Ireland for the G8 summit to urge locals to devote more effort to charting a course for a shared future for unionists and nationalists.  Tomorrow morning he will address a large audience of young people in Belfast before travelling to Fermanagh for the G8.  He is also to meet First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.  He is expected to praise them and other political figures for their achievement in maintaining a cross-community administration. But he is also to urge them to consolidate gains by working harder on community relations.

U.S. President Barack Obama holds girl after speaking at an Irish celebration at College Green in Dublin

US president Barack Obama will deliver a landmark speech in Belfast on his visit to Northern Ireland for the G8 summit of world leaders on Monday, calling on the people to finish the job of bringing peace to the region.  In a speech to about 2,000 people, mostly young people, Mr Obama will focus on the young people of Northern Ireland and the future that they will inherit and build, a senior administration official in the Obama administration said.  On his first visit to the North, he will speak about his admiration for what the people have accomplished during the peace process and his deep belief in their capacity to finish the job and to take the necessary but often difficult steps, the White House official said.

Here’s to wishing everyone a wonderful Fathers Day…..

WTF is this craziness about some team owner claiming putin stole his super bowl ring?? Dude first said ring was a gift, then said Putin stole it and the owner saying Obama admin told em to keep it hush hush so that’s why they went along with gift story at first???

Damn they will lirerally blame this President for anything.

    • 14 Nena20409
      June 16, 2013 at 6:41 pm

And it supposedly happened in 2005 ❓

Then over at HP ot Mediaite, there’s a photograph of Putin trying on the Ring. So how did that happen? I am sorry, the Patriot Owner is a Rightie. I don’t trust Putin……however, in this instance, I believe Putin. Why wait until 2013 to complain about a Super Bowl Ring?

      • June 16, 2013 at 6:46 pm

ah, thanks. It was Bush admin, still, I can’t believe I’m gonna defend the Bush White House, but why the heck would Putin steal a SuperBowl ring? Is American football a big deal in Russia???? I know the ring is expensive, but last time I looked, Putin ain’t some poor schleb is he?

Even if the wife says it was stolen now, why go along with her stupidity?

          June 16, 2013 at 6:59 pm

Kraft did complain, per the report and contacted the Bush regime. He was advised to leave it and chuck at as a gift to promote US/Russia better relations. He agreed. The ring is now at some Russian Museum. So Why is Kraft bringing this Up? Looking for a free Ring or to cause some problem? 2005….to 2013 is 8 long yrs.

    • 17 lisalovesobama
      June 16, 2013 at 6:45 pm

Um, your facts aren’t right. The Patriot’s owner, Kraft, met with Putin in 2005 and showed Putin his ring. Putin put it on and said: “deuces!” Then Kraft got a call from the BUSH WH saying that Kraft shouldn’t pursue getting the ring back as they didn’t want, and I quote, to threaten “US-SOVIET”—hahahahahahaha, get it?– relations! 😆 so the Bush folk told Kraft to say that he’d given his ring to Putin as a gift. By the way, I believe this story ENTIRELY!! 😆 😆

      • June 16, 2013 at 6:47 pm

ah, thanks. It was Bush admin, still, I can’t believe I’m gonna defend the Bush White House and I’m not Bush defender, but why the heck would Putin steal a SuperBowl ring? Because he is a narcissistic, entitled wannabe badass. Why would a billionaire rightie like Kraft lie? I can totally see Putin liking something and taking it. This is the same guy after all who was leader of Russia, took a break-only publicly mind you- and put a figure head in his place all the while pulling poor Medvedev’s strings. Same guy riding around on a horse shirtless and tussling with a tiger because he wants to look cool. I totally believe this story. I spent a good 45 minutes reading all the articles about it. I laughed so hard. Yeah, Putin definitely did it in my estimation. I wasn’t even surprised when I read it, just tickled! 😆

          • June 16, 2013 at 7:11 pm

Ok agree with everything about Putin, but still it’s like 8 years later, so why the heck wait until now to make hay again?

Forget the idiot Putin right now, but I’m just always fascinated by stories like this cause I’m always like…”Okay so what’s the end game here”.

I’ve always been a “ok, so whatcha want me to do now” kinda girl…lol. My sisters hate it cause they know I don’t do last minute things unless it’s an emergencry…lol

No, Kraft was told by the Bush Admin. that it would be best if he went along with the “gift” story. This happened in 2005.

    Because….freedum! http://www.balloon-juice.com/2013/06/16/sunday-longread-open-thread-what-would-jeebus-steal/

Mr. Johnson founded and ran a company called I Works, which, the agency says, marketed programs to help people get government grants for personal needs and earn easy money. According to a civil complaint filed by the F.T.C., the company lured consumers with online pitches for free or “risk-free” CD-ROMs that required only a nominal shipping fee and then charged their credit cards for recurring online memberships they were unaware of and had not consented to.

Over five years, Mr. Johnson, along with I Works, company executives and related corporations, supposedly swindled “unwitting consumers” out of more than $275 million, the complaint said. The company also discouraged dissatisfied customers from seeking refunds from their credit card companies, the complaint said, by threatening to report those customers to a company-operated consumer blacklist called BadCustomer.com.

All the while, proceeds from the enterprise were used to finance Mr. Johnson’s “lavish lifestyles” of helicopters and houseboats, classic cars and poker at a Las Vegas casino, according to a receiver’s report to the court on Mr. Johnson’s assets. Some details in the case file read as if they came from an Old West novel: according to testimony from a witness, Mr. Johnson supposedly amassed bundles of cash and buried caches of gold.

Just to be clear this is Jeremy Johnson, not Charles johnson who is doing some serious pushback on the NSA nonsense. Charles Johnson was a right wing blogger who helped derail Dan Rather’s Bush National Guard story but he’s turned away from RWNJs and regrets ever believing any rwnj b.s. about PBO. He was not on my radar until this weekend so I ‘m following closely with a healthy dose of skepticism.

@JeffersonObama’s Twitter timeline is definitely worth watching now (better than TV!!!).

Reminds me why we Obots love him.

He’s the voice of reason in a sea of insanity now, just as he was during the MSM reporting debacle also known as POTUS 2012 Campaign.

I had been supporting the Guardian’s work on Rupert Murdock’s unethical dealings in the UK. Its hard to deal with the new Glenn Greenwald enabling because I felt so grateful for the journalistic doggedness of the Guardian on other subjects. Glenn Greenwald for me is as ruthless and dishonest as well as power seeking as Glenn Beck. Fortunately watching the President deal in measured ways with love/hate relationships and looking for the best outcome helps me look for discernment beyond reaction.
